Multiple accounts: Can't see 'users' option in settings - Nexus 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Thrilled to receive my Nexus 10 today especially when I ordered it Tuesday evening it estimated 2-3 weeks shipping. First impressions: looks slick and is quite light.
Anyway, here's the thing - I have updated to 4.2 - but I still can't see the 'Users' section in the settings. This was one feature I was massively looking forward to - no idea why it's not there.
When the update installed, it told me it would reboot- but the device never came back on - I had to turn it back on manually. I did check in the 'About' section and I am apparently running 4.2 though...
Any ideas?

Strange...Have you tried to update it again just incase? About > sys updates > and click check now.
It may say upto date, but check now just incase. I had to go to home screen till it said I had update available, after that it should download and restart automatically, I was in the same boat, ordered tuesday midnight and got it this morning. After I updated i had the add user option available.

Congrats
Yeah I have tried to update again - it says everything is up to date. Even in about it shows 4.2.
I'm starting to worry - worst case is factory reset I guess.

Hmm that is rather odd...I would do a factory reset just incase, better to do it now than to have all the applications and settings to your taste then have to do it.

I decided to do the factory reset, but then couldn't turn the thing on... now it seems I can't even power up the thing.

I wonder if you can do hard resets on these things..as in volume up and power button until something shows up, just throwing ideas mind.

That combination did work - it came on.
Then, the screen locked - and I couldn't unlock it again.
Damn this thing, I really want to like it but it's doing a good job of annoying me now.

Hmmm I would say take the battery out and put it back in like every trained technician would but thats kinda impossible unless you wanna break it. So the Volume up and Power button worked and you did the reset from there?

Mine did the same thing. Although it says 4.2 a few hours after using it an update message prompted me to updated to 4.2! After the update was complete the Users option appeared.

Yes, that made the screen turn on.
Then the screen turned off, I tried to turn it on again... couldn't.
Then, did a power + volume up again, turned the device on - did a factory reset, then the device turned off - didn't come back on, and still had all my data...
Now every time the device turns its screen off, I can't wake it up again.

Any luck?

Yep, got it working. I flashed the stock ROM but it took a while to manage to get into the fastboot state - I was considering returning it for a replacement
Users is showing, and the thing is actually stable now.

Glad to hear you didn't have to return it that would have been a pain! Sorry I couldn't of been of more help!

[Q] Nexus 4 randomly turning off, intermittently not being able to restart

Hi guys,
Not exactly the most positive of first posts but here we go. There's a problem with my phone that I can't find the solution for...
Essentially my phone randomly turns itself off (no power down sequence, almost as though the battery's being taken out if you know what I mean) and then it has difficulty in fully booting again. For some reason it also likes to revert my wallpaper back to the original as stock.
The first thing that I thought of was malware, with the wallpaper - so I tried a couple of anti-malware apps to no avail. As my device was rooted, I then flashed back to stock, locked and unrooted it and checked the behaviour. Again to no avail (then again I've never rooted/unrooted so this may have been done incorrectly). By the looks of it, the worst case scenario is a problem with battery connections/hardware...
So the question is have you guys come across this before? Is there a solution to this or is Google/LG going to have to give me a replacement?
Many Thanks.
Weird, I just had this happen couple hours ago, I was watching a video and close the app. I press the power button to put it to sleep. Just like 20 second later, I press the power to wake it and it don't do anything. I had to hold the power button to turn it on. I check the battery status afterward and it looks like it drop between 5-10 percent in the chart after it turn on. The battery must have failed or something. This also happen to my wife phone couple weeks back, although she had to do a hard reset(power+volume up and down) it have not happen again though.
Hello
First of all, welcome to XDA community!
Now, have you done anything with your phone? As in, root it? Flashed custom kernel? Flashed custom ROM? We would love to help, but you need to provide us what we need

Okay, here's what I had done when this all started:
- Rooted and unlocked.
- TWRP custom recovery
- Standard Kernel, no custom ROM.
I've reverted as much of this back to stock as possible through a nexus tool-kit, but it still has the issue. If I'm missing anything out let me know.

Did this happen before you had the phone rooted? Also did this happen one time only or happened multiple times? I also had this problem, but just turning off and not turning back on part. But that was only one time event and I believe it was because of the custom kernel.

This started yesterday, and I rooted it as soon as I got it 2 weeks ago, so I don't think the root has caused any issues. It's now happening rather often, to the point where it's unuseable

The only 2 apps that I downloaded the day before were cerberus and titanium backup, both of which are well known. Either way they were the day before the problems started.

Well, after completely reverting the phone back to its stock version and pretty much everything else, it's still doing it - which surely points to a problem with the chip (or something). So, I've contacted google about a replacement and so far so good - got through in 5 minutes and sorted out the RMA and everything, should be delivered in the next few days.
Thanks for the help anyway. I'm going to avoid rooting this one for the time being to see how it behaves.
I experienced "random shutdowns" and even posted about it here. Turns out it was my belt holster that was somehow the culprit. I don't know if it was mashing some weird button sequence to turn off the phone, or if the magnet interfered or something else, but as soon as I got it out of that holster I had no more random shutdowns.
I doubt yours is the same problem but I thought I'd post mine.

Funny I had the same thing happen to me last night. I was using the phone put it down for a minute or two and then could not wake the phone. What was interesting was when I couldn't get it to turn on I plugged in into the charger and let it sit for a few hours. When I was finally able to restart it using the the power, vol button the battery was at the same level before the incident. In other words whatever happened prevented the battery from being charged. I am stock and rooted and haven't loaded any new apps in over 2 weeks

I have almost the same problem as the op but I do have a shut down sequence. It does randomly shut down itself. The first thing I got the phone I rooted it and it was fine working on modaco for 2 weeks then one day it kept shutting down upon boot until like 10 tries later I successfully got back in but lasted only a few mins and sometimes hours. Im gonna rma this pos and I hope I can get it replaced soon. I try it with stock rom and kernel then modaco with stock kernel then modaco with faux kernel. Same problem.
I had these problems earlier ... I just gave HARD RESET by pressing power key for more than 5 sec.
Then i figured, it was due to Undervolting ! and Processor going to a DEEP SLEEP all together !
So i removed UVing and it was cool since then ! ... Although my signature says the rest !
I bought my N4 about 2 weeks ago, and it has turned itself off 3 of the nights I've had it. I don't have any hard evidence, but I have a theory on why it's doing it.
At first I thought it was because I used a Motorola usb cord instead of the stock cord because I read some people's theories on the internet, but it happened again (twice) after using the stock cord.
It seemed like it only shut off if I left WiFi turned on when I went to sleep (even then it was still a random occurrence). I went into my advanced WiFi settings and noticed Wi-Fi Optimization was turned on with the text "Minimize battery usage when Wi-Fi is on". I thought it might be the problem, so I turned it off. I left WiFi on last night, and the phone was still on in the morning. Again, it is still a random occurrence even with WF on, so I'm going to leave WF on at night for a few days/weeks and see if it happens again. I'll post back with results.
If anyone else has already tried this or has figured out a solution, let me know.
The same happens several times a week with my nexus 4 running latest cyanogenmod. I will revert it to clean stock in a few days to see how it goes. I don't think that is a hardware problem but time will tell.

Don't know if anyone is keeping up or cares, but I wanted to update and say that this did not fix the problem. 4.2.2 also did not fix the problem. I guess I could try getting a new one from Google.
My wife and I are both having this problem. Hers is completely stock, I'm unlocked and rooted. I was hoping it would be fixed with 4.2.2, but if it hasn't then it maybe time to get replacement N4s
I can't imagine this issue is very widespread, since there have only been a few threads about it. Its a big nuisance especially because it usually happens at night when I'm expecting my alarm to go off at night.
I hadn't wanted to send for replacements since it seems like a software issue but I'm getting fed up.

Just had this problem occur with my N4 last night..... Phone is 2 weeks old.
Went to bed, plugged in the phone to charge [it was at about 50% or so, so not exactly low].
Woke up at 8.30 wondering why my alarm didn't go off at 7.30.... looked over and the phone was off.
It also didn't want to turn back on either. Took about a minute of holding in the power button for various amounts of time before it finally kicked to life [at 100% charge too].
This is going to be a real problem if this problem reoccurs. At home I have a clock radio but I travel a lot and rely on my phone to wake me up!
Here's hoping we can start to identify what is causing this issue. All I can add is that it is not low-battery related.
As stated in the sig. Phone is unlocked/rooted with stock rom.

Camera forces screen to turn off

Dear All,
I tried searching for this topic but no results. My experience with the N4 on the 5th day gave me this glitch.
1. I go to take a photo with the camera on the N4.
2. I'm about to take the photo the screen goes blank. I turn it on again.
3. It truns the screen off immediately.
4. I exit the camera and go to my home screen and it turns the screen off again.
5. I turn it on again and it immediately shuts the screen off.
I re-booted my phone and it is ok till I turn the camera on again. I switch to landscape mode from portait and it shuts closes my screen.
Could this be a problem with the sensors. Please comment if you have any clues to any of the mentioned problems. I got the phone from a brick and mortor store and not Google Play Store.
Thanks.

What Hw rev are you on?
To see it switch off the phone, then hold the vol down button and turn it on.
You ll see the bootloader screen coming up, in there you can see the HW_rev, mine is 11 which should be the latest as per today.

I would suggest doing a factory reset. If that doesn't help, please there's a thread called "[battery improvement] works have the time all the time" explaining how to re flash the whole Rom.
try that too.

Screen turning off automatically

Hi, since the recent L update, whenever I pull down the notifications panel from top, the screen turns off within 5 or so seconds, no matter what I am doing. I have changed the Screen Light to "Always On" and the Screen Timeout is 5 minutes, I can't seem to figure out why it's doing that.

Hello, I really can't figure out why this is hap[pening to you, as I tried to recreate your problem. But there is always a chance that after OTA update things got messed up. I always do a full whipe after updates (be it OTA or ODIN) If no one comes with a solution your best chance is to factory reset and see if it helped...I know for many of us this is a big hassle , but at the end of the day you have a clean and more snappyer phone. Best of luck!

Constant freezes. Resets on its own.

Installed Android Marshmallow last night. All seemed to be working well until tonight. I've plugged my phone in to charge and it's instantly got super slow then turned off. Wouldn't turn back on for love nor glory for a good 10 or so minutes. Then it finally did. However, it turned on, worked slowly for about 15 seconds then either froze in which I'd have to hold the power key and volume down to turn it off or it'd turn off on its own and reset.
It's been about 4 hours now and still doing it.
Any help at all please? Thanks.

Random reboots even after factory reset....

Hello,
I have my Moto X Style for a little less than one year. Had no problems with it at all, enjoyed it a lot, until about 3 weeks ago. It then started to randomly reboot, 3 or 4 times a day. I searched on Google and saw many people had that issue. Tried several of the "solutions" I found, uninstalled some apps I thought could be the cause, with no success.
2 days ago, I decided to do a factory reset. Looked like it worked, for one day. Yesterday, it did reboot once again, only one time though. And now, it just rebooted again a few seconds ago...
What can I do now? The dull thing is that every time it reboots, I lose the Bluetooth association with my devices and have to reassociate them, like the sound system in my car, and it sucks to enter the 0000 code and then having to add the player to the "trusted devices" and all....
Phone is not rooted and running system (Android 6.0 with Dec. 1st security) . Build #MPHS24.49-18-16.
Thanks for any input.

Only the core system apps, no other services are started... To access Safe Mode, press and hold power like you are going to shut off the phone, then when the Power Off message shows up, long press it until it says something about Restart in Safe Mode and select it. The next reboot will be in safe mode. To leave Safe Mode, just power off and restart again normally.
My guess is there is an app conflict somewhere... without a logcat of a random reboot it would be impossible to tell though.

Thing is, it started to do the random reboot thing even if I didn't install any new apps in a while. So, why would some app that didn't cause reboots before would start to cause some suddenly?

I don't know, an update perhaps... But your only other option is to contact Motorola and send it in for repair, it is usually easier to eliminate everything on your end first.

I'm from Canada, so can't use Lenovo US. Bought the phone from Expansys, with a 18-month total warranty, but I know they shut down their US office. They're supposed to still honor warranties though...
But still there must be a way to make the damn phone work without shipping it back... Would root and a custom OS be an option?

It's always an option, but stock is generally more stable than any custom ROM.
Without knowing the cause, I can't say for sure.
Try the Safe Mode thing first... it wouldn't be first time an app update caused a device to reboot.
