Jelly Bean User Manual (Official) - Galaxy Note 10.1 General

Hey guys. Samsung DE uploaded the N8020 user manual in English. It's the same as the N8000 with the only difference being the addition of an LTE icon in the status bar. It describes the new and different JB features. It doesn't mention the lock screen shortcuts so I'd assume their gone permanently.

XXLRK Firmware (Germany) out

This firmware was just posted on the Sammobile website. Does anyone know anything about it? Is it a 4.0.4 update to the LRG firmware or 4.1?
http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=8&view=5602
I think is an 4.0.4 update.
Downloading, will test it right away. Thanks

Just got the update via OTA in Germany (unbranded, german note)
But I can't install it because my battery is dead
Can anyone test if they removed the unified search, like they did on the sgs3 and gn?

How can I test this? Just installed the update and actually all that I can see which has changed is some german commercial applications (shops/hotels/food delivery) - uninstalling them all now

Added the "Quick Search Bar" to my homescreen. When I press it nothing happens (well, Google text turns green on-finger-down). No keyboard shows up. The voice input directs me to google.com (when saying facebook)
We are talking about the google search widget, right?
You can also long-press the settings key.
Tested myself :banghead:
Nothing changed there

XXLRK is still 4.0.4
Downloaded XXLRK today on my german gt-n7000 in India. Still 404
The changelog for XXLRK
The large 24MB OTA update does not change the version of Android, but the Galaxy brings touch to firmware version XXLRK and the performance of the Galaxy increases note. The search will remain intact! But there is a slightly modified keyboard with large distances and significantly improved writing comfort
Will this OTA kill root access? or should I rather use Mobile Odin?

I did the OTA update altho i did see it in the samfirmware website as well .. i wonder, could this update also fix the brickbug samsung said would fix ? Altho i suspect they would make a big fuss about the update if this was the one which fixed the brickbug, eh ?
I have it. Its 4.0.4
However i want to root with cwm is there a cf kernel for xxlrk?
Anyone noticed in XXLRK, power_profile.xml is mentioning battery capacity as 1650 instead of actual value 2500? decompiled framework-res.apk and under res>xml you can find this file. I don't know if battery usage calculation can give bad result because of this? or is it ok? Anyone with advanced knowledge pls.
Asian 4.04 Update
Most of Asia received the update to 4.04 in the last few days. I am in Thailand but there was no OTA update but the update was on Kies. Since updating I am still wondering what it was supposed to do as I cannot see any obvious changes except that I have lost root. I thought it might be an update to keep us safe from the brickbug but who knows? Anyone able to shed any light on what the update is for?

I use the Thai stock ICS 4.0.4 but I don't think there are differences, but this is only a regional 4.0.4 update.
And I didn't see any post here describing something new in these end-of-july-stock-ROMs.
I kept root the long way (coming from GB rooted, and installing the new version with Mobile Odin Pro, adding Notecore 13 later).
When you switch to a safe kernel you do not have to hope for an official safe update anymore.

for my galaxy s4 bought in the us?
The new update that fixes the smearing (sortof) and includes new camera firmware etc. is not out yet for the i9500. As far as China's ME5 firmware goes, best stay away from that one. Although it is the most recent, it does not have as many changes as ME1 (Indonesia), which currently is the best firmware to have.

Instead of having the the status bar at the top, it's all at the bottom, a visible home, back and multi task buttons are shown as well as the quick launch buttons moving to a menu that appears when you hit the time (which gets moved to the bottom right hand corner of the screen)
In the 4.1.2 firmwares, you enabled it by changing the dpi to something like 160, it makes the interface less "kiddie like".
You can still change the DPI but, ever since 4.2.2 for this device, you've not able to enable Tablet UI, as they've removed it from the framework. I flashed it about 20 minutes after posting my question and discovered that it's still gone, which totally sucks!

Thanks for the info.
Yes I remember my Lenovo ThinkPad tablet worked that way.
For me I'm maybe happier with th phone layout as it is the same as my phone. Did I just write that.
Anyway thanks for the heads up.
I have upgraded to 4.2.2 also but can't really see a difference.
Hoping we get 4.3 and can we hope for 4.4 too?
I don't know why the Note 8 is not considered a Samsung premium product. It is premium for me, can even use it as a phone in a pinch.
Hello guys, can you help how to flash it on my galaxy not 8 N5100 3g . And anyway to do it without losing any of my installed apps. and with without losing my setting. i mean exactly like i'm updating my device OTA or throw samsung kies ?

Upgrading an encrypted Note8
My Note8 is encrypted because of the BYOD policy in our company. It is my first Samsung appliance and is also my first encrypted appliance I am going to upgrade.
Did someone try this kind of ODIN-pushed upgrade
- on an encrypted Note8?
- or on another encrypted 4.1-based Samsung appliance?
Do you think it will work?
I believe Galaxy Gear support will be added.

Americansied contact info?

Quite surprised and a bit annoyed that the contact info, in particular the Address field, is Americanised... I cant even add our Post Code into the Zip Code as its a numeric field only! Is there a way to change this, or define my own fields?
Its almost as bad as not seeing English (United Kingdom) and only English (American) when installing software... there's a difference between the two, and surely the clue is in the name itself!
Haven't come across it myself, always had English (United Kingdom) as an option. What firmware?

My language options are set to UK etc.. but if I go into Contacts, and look at the Address Fields, I have State, Zip Code.. etc I did wonder wheterht is was a generic android thing but my mates HTC says County, Post Code...
Ill check software version.. but it is an EU handset and Ive just recently received the kitkat update...
OK, just tried to add an address in myself, have the same issue! I hadn't checked after the KK update, however my old addresses are still showing up OK. FFS Samsung and their stupidity again
I have just tried it and you can add the postcode when you enter a new contract. When hi go to edit it, it only gives you the numbers option on the keyboard... Stupid ?

CM11 is kit kat.
He means Official 4.4.2 with the new boot loader, CM runs on Jelly Bean's boot loader aka MJ7/Mk2.
UK postcode has letters and numbers ie: N1 6YU - When entering Address info we can only type american zip codes ie: 939393 which is no good to us.

Bootloader has little to do with the software. So the topic is about software capability and Samsung apparently locks it.
I meant the latest official Sammy software. Which cm11 is not. Even cm11 roms can't be run once you've got the official Sammy 4.4.2....as yet anyway

I know. The OP was talking in frustration and I was only giving him an option to think about later on.
I'm not arguing if CM11 and Samsung official kit kat are the same or not. I'm arguing that they are both Android OSs and one of them is restricted when it comes to what kind of data is stored in a field.

I just flashed the new KK Firmware (France one) and it immediately stopped, due to 'sboot.bin' (=bootloader file).
I'm downloading the UK one and I'll try again. If it'll fail again, we're stuck on the N8000 Bootloader, probably forever.

Just flashed it on my n8010 and I must say that it is ugly as hell. Honestly, the thing that you slide from the upper part of the screen is horrible. Not impressed by it visually so far...
How do we root this s**t?
I've flashed mu UK N8010 from the op's link and it has upgraded well. It ran like a dog for an hour or so but has settled down and is smooth now, there are lots of of changes, it's much more like a standard android phone now than a Samsung circa 2012 tablet, the notification shade has moved to the top now. Multi screen is now different and there are a lot of other changes to the email app, keyboard appearance and the colour scemes etc etc. The home, back and app manger soft keys have moved from bottom left to centre, the screen capture button is no longer there, you can screen cap using power + volume down buttons or the S pen.
After the same interface for 2 years it feels really odd using the tablet with the kitkat changes but I'm already getting used to it after a few hours and overall I think it waswort b the upgrade.
