for my galaxy s4 bought in the us?
The new update that fixes the smearing (sortof) and includes new camera firmware etc. is not out yet for the i9500. As far as China's ME5 firmware goes, best stay away from that one. Although it is the most recent, it does not have as many changes as ME1 (Indonesia), which currently is the best firmware to have.

Added the "Quick Search Bar" to my homescreen. When I press it nothing happens (well, Google text turns green on-finger-down). No keyboard shows up. The voice input directs me to google.com (when saying facebook)
We are talking about the google search widget, right?
You can also long-press the settings key.

XXLRK is still 4.0.4
Downloaded XXLRK today on my german gt-n7000 in India. Still 404
The changelog for XXLRK
The large 24MB OTA update does not change the version of Android, but the Galaxy brings touch to firmware version XXLRK and the performance of the Galaxy increases note. The search will remain intact! But there is a slightly modified keyboard with large distances and significantly improved writing comfort
Will this OTA kill root access? or should I rather use Mobile Odin?

I did the OTA update altho i did see it in the samfirmware website as well .. i wonder, could this update also fix the brickbug samsung said would fix ? Altho i suspect they would make a big fuss about the update if this was the one which fixed the brickbug, eh ?
I have it. Its 4.0.4
However i want to root with cwm is there a cf kernel for xxlrk?
Anyone noticed in XXLRK, power_profile.xml is mentioning battery capacity as 1650 instead of actual value 2500? decompiled framework-res.apk and under res>xml you can find this file. I don't know if battery usage calculation can give bad result because of this? or is it ok? Anyone with advanced knowledge pls.
Asian 4.04 Update
Most of Asia received the update to 4.04 in the last few days. I am in Thailand but there was no OTA update but the update was on Kies. Since updating I am still wondering what it was supposed to do as I cannot see any obvious changes except that I have lost root. I thought it might be an update to keep us safe from the brickbug but who knows? Anyone able to shed any light on what the update is for?

I use the Thai stock ICS 4.0.4 but I don't think there are differences, but this is only a regional 4.0.4 update.
And I didn't see any post here describing something new in these end-of-july-stock-ROMs.
I kept root the long way (coming from GB rooted, and installing the new version with Mobile Odin Pro, adding Notecore 13 later).
When you switch to a safe kernel you do not have to hope for an official safe update anymore.

Samsung approaches updates differently than other OEM's. They never try to get a single device on a single most current version of s/w. Some N8000 regions are still on 4.0.4 and haven't been updated since August when the device was released. The German N8000 has received a half dozen updates. Whatever version of things like S Note or the Gallery that are current will get packaged in to a ROM released for a specific region. There were six different versions of S Note in the 4.0.4 ROMs that we discussed here. So between the N8000/10/13 and all the different ROMs Samsung deploys by region it's unlikely we'll all ever be running the same versions of different included apps like S Note and the Gallery.

It's just really annoying that we have other regions that still have the exynos issue because they haven't been updated at all while Germany gets multiple updates. It makes no sense from a support or commercial point of view.

It was packaged at a different time. The next ROM could have a newer or older version depending on when it was packaged. The signed date and release date are usually different than the packaging date.

Hello all, my phone just recieved updates via PCC (I was previously on 4.2.2). I upgraded and found that the build number is also 423, however more smooth system, espicially the album lag seems to be fixed.
I provide you the ftf link of new .423 HongKong Firmware. This is not uploaded by me (damn speed), but a friend from another forum.

Sorry for being off topic, but, for the love of God, it's LAG with no plural. Just like you wouldn't say two glasses of waters.
It's not a real firmware update, just an update of the customization. Your customization version will have changed from 1270-5695_R2B to 1270-5695_R3B. This just means that Sony has changed something to the bundled apps or the customized settings.
Some weeks ago, this happened to the 'Generic NL' customization too. After updating, the Box app was pre-installed.

You're welcome
The core firmware (basically everything except the bundled apps and the resource overlays) stays the same as long as the build number doesn't change. Only the parts that are specific to the 'Generic HK' customization can be changed by the update.
If you look at the update XML file for 'Generic HK', you'll see that the latest firmware image (for Sony PC Companion and Sony Update Service) is swVersion 10.3.A.0.423 with cdfVersion R3B, while the latest delta update (OTA update) is still swVersion 10.3.A.0.423 with cdfVersion R2B.
I just downloaded this FTF (Generic HK 10.3.A.0.423 R3B) and compared it to the previous version (Generic HK 10.3.A.0.423 R2B).
These are the only differences:
build.prop: 'ro.semc.version.cust_revision=R2B' changed to 'ro.semc.version.cust_revision=R3B'

yes, I am talking about the 4.2.2 stock rom. I used it on pure stock for about a day. Now, it is rooted and I have xposed installed. it showed no lag, meaning that it showed the same performance as the GENNXT rom. It had the occasional lag, just like the GENNXT rom
No lag
Day 1 using the new stock Malaysian version 4.2.2, no noticeable lag. Updated using odin without wiping and reset and not rooted (haven't found use for rooting yet). No visible changes on the new firmware. Hope it stays this way.

Sory new ones
And this new one is multi CSC XXS in place of the last ones XXU
Just tried the BTHH was still using the old camera app just changed back to CRO which is using the new camera app i find that the BTU version has focusing issues im sticking with CRO for now untill Samsung sort it out.
Also my Battery life is lasting a lot longer on CRO than on BTU. Also less heat compared to BTU

Thanks, not noticed any focussing issues on BTHH yet but only been sitting in the house since updating, gonna give the CRO build a go anyway, any camera improvements are welcome

No problem, :good: I would get focus hunting on BTH5 and BTHH but the CRO version fixed it for me and heating issues let us know if you see any improvements.

Just flashed it, will have a play around and see if I notice anything, didn't really have BTHH installed long enough to compare though really
I did notice a new animation for "Optimising Apps" on first boot that I don't remember seeing before with the two cogs, iirc it was just a picture of a little droid guy before with the number of apps left to optimise underneath, now it shows a % done instead too

That optimizing animation was a nice little addition I did notice it said erasing before that maybe it erased the cache to optimize the apps.
