[Q] Widgetlocker and soft keys - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anybody using widgetlocker for a lock screen replacement, I know we know have lockscreen widgets (tho it seems only about 4 to choose from) but what I love being able to set is shortcuts for gmail, phone and messaging right there and have support for unread messages/missed calls with telsa unread.
Anyway the problem I have is that widgetlock doesn't seem to disable the soft keys (like the stock lockscreen does) so basically I can just bypass unlocking. Anybody have a work around, I know this isn't the first device with softkeys so this must have been a problem that as come up before.
NVM, root helper and 'hide navigation keys' got rid of the soft keys, only problem now is it is just so laggy/unresponsive to touch, takes several attempts to unlock. Hopefully this is just a bug with 4.2 devices and they will fix it soon.

I got a problem w/widgetlocker and the multitask softkey. When I go to the lockscreen, it takes a second for the multitask softkey to appear while the back and home keys are lighted automatically. It just happened today..does anyone w/widgetlocker experience that problem? I wonder if there's a way to fix it and it's starting to bother me.

[Q] Disable Home Button for toddler app?

I've developed and app that is a slide show of pictures which each play a sound when you tap them. It's like a picture book for ages 2-4.
The problem is, since android won't let you capture a home button press and essentially disable it, when parents give the phone to their child to play with unattended (brave parent), the child can inadvertenly exit the app and then make calls or otherwise tweak the phone.
There are two other apps that currently have a psuedo fix for this issue. The apps are Toddler Lock and ToddlePhone. I've tried contacting the developers of these apps for some guidance but they haven't been willing to disclose anything, which if fine, but does anyone here have any suggestions?
It looks like both of those other apps are acting like a home screen replacement app. When you enable the "childproof mode" on those apps the user is prompted to chose and app for the action and the choices are "Launcher, LauncherPro, etc." plus the toddler app. You then have to make the toddler app the default and voila, the phone is "locked" and can only be "unlocked" using a key combination or touching the four corners of the screen, etc. when you "unlock" the phone. your normal home screen app default restored. You don't even have to make the toddler app the default the next time you enable the "childproof mode".
I have read that these two apps have problems with Samsung phones and they can cause an an infinite crash-and-restart-loop that requires a factory reset to fix. Obviously this is not the ideal solution to the problem but it looks like the only one availiable at this point.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to implement a "childproof mode"?
Could it run on top of the lock screen
So Do you mean making the app a lock screen replacement? I suppose that could work.
Do you have a suggestion on how to accomplish that?

[Q] WidgetLocker ForceClose

I recently began using WidgetLocker. However, When I slide the keyboard out when the display is off, WidgetLocker force closes.
I'm running Bonsai Leafless 1.0.2, Gingerbread 2.3 theme, LauncherPro and WidgetLocker when the force close occurs. Is anyone else experiencing this issue? Is there a fix?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
Can anyone confirm this issue or is it something with my settings?
well i am running midnight ext4 v2.4 with LP and WL and I have no issues when I open the keyboard with the display off, the screen come on and WL is in Landscape.
happens to me 2 i stopped using it.
I think I *may* have found the issue. I'm not sure if it's the ROM, the theme, or some of my settings...
WithOUT WL running...
When I slide open my keyboard, it brings me to my home screen and bypasses the lock screen.
With the keyboard "closed", when I press the power button it brings me to my lock screen. If I slide out the keyboard while at the lock-screen, it bypasses the lock and brings me to my home screen.
I didn't find a setting for this in the phone settings or within Spare Parts. I guess I'll have to wipe and reflash the ROM and take it one step at a time to track down the problem.
I have been having the same problem with WL. I use GoSms to display incoming text messages on my lockscreen and i've noticed if my phone moves into landscape mode while displaying the text, WL force closes. I have tried the settings within WL to force portraid screen orientation but it didnt solve the problem
Yeah getting FC's on my R2D2 as well. Every time i slide the keyboard or set the phone in the dock. Hoping a fix comes soon.

Accidental dialling in pocket

Hi guys.
I got a Treo Pro from work a couple of months back but I'm getting really frustrated by the ability to pocket dial.
Every time I pull the phone from my pocket it will have 112 tapped into it. I'm getting really annoyed because it's so easy to do and it happens every time.
Is there any way to disable the ability to do that? I only want the keypad to work once it's been unlocked.
Any ideas?
What has worked for me is a tiny app called 'HookMgr' (freeware).
Thanks for that. Hookmgr seems to have stopped the keypad being pressed - however, the messages, calendar and start menu buttons are still able to be pressed (though the screen locks automatically straight afterwards).
Any ideas for those?
Glad it helped. Just to point out, some app you had installed was causing the problem and hookmgr somehow solved it (in my case it was VAlert that was the culprit).
Re. start, msg, calendar buttons - the same happens on my Treo Pro. Actually, I don't find this a bad thing at all as I can quickly glance at upcoming appointments or new email without unlocking the device.
I have an unlocked evdo palm treo pro and suddenly the screen lock isn't working. going in to the keyguard settings isn't having any effect. the keyboard is locked, but all the quickbuttons (red, green, palm button, etc) aren't locking. what did I do to disable keyguard?
found the fix for the screen lock on the treo plus. just gotta go into settings and redo the screen alignment. found it over at the ppcgeeks forums

[Q] Way to lock to the soft keys temporarily?

I am looking for some way to possibly lock the soft keys temporarily while in an app. Reason being my son (2 years old) is constantly brushing them and jumping out of the apps he is using, especially in landscape mode. While of course the ultimate solution is teaching him to NOT hit those buttons, he doesn't have the understanding/coordination yet to avoid them.
At least for a while I'd love to find some way we can lock/unlock the softkeys. I cant think of how that can be done because there would also have to be some way to quickly UNlock them...from within an app so we can get back out of it, change apps ect. Then relock them again in some other app.
Any ideas?
Only thing that comes to mind is glazed rom's edge-swipe-to-hide (not just lock) the nav bar.
Might be an easier solution out there. But a cursory search doesn't reveal anything. Nav bars aren't exactly common even in android.

No touch input after update to Lollipop

Need help as my phone became barely usable aftaer OTA update.
The top end of the screen (about 1 cm top to down) is not responding to touch. I cant tap any input in common use cases like using google search box widget, answering a call while in app using the new call feature, tap Send when composing an email and so on...
The only case this part of screen is active is when pulling down the notification bar, tapping objects like the clock (time display) Setting icon etc'. So I beleave this is not a hardware issue.
I did wipe the catch with no help and reset to factory setting with no help as well.
Did anyone experiance the same issue?
Any idea how can I overcome this except down grading back to 4.4.2?
Any easy trick for some one who is not a developer or deeply technical?
THANKS!
