Hi, new poster - so hello everyone!
I have used the forum in the past to root my phone and use a custom rom, all has been well for a year or more until i started to get problems.... Anyway long story short im looking to install the gingerDX rom but am having great difficulty (last time i was very smooth!).
My question is about the requirements:-
Requirements• Rooted
• ClockworkMod Recovery (v014+)
• Baseband 015
• Sony Ericsson SEMC kernel, Alfs, nAa or LinuxDX
I understand what clockworkmod is but how exactly do i get that version??? I keep seeing i need to d/load rom manager, but again all i see is broken links!
REALLY REALLY need some help people.
I can root the phone, update baseband and then lastly is SEMC the stock kernel i.e i dont have to do anyting?>
Many thanks in advance
I am wondering about the requirement of a custom kernel (which also need an unlocked bootloader) for GingerDX? oO
WHICH version do ya want to install?
I'm using GingerDX v029 (shakira-build, CM-nightly), which runs on stock kernel, making custom kernel and unlocking your bootloader unnecessary.
Got a CWM from nobodyAtall (thx dude!), works perfektly, but 2.1 Stock ROM required first:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1105745
(Notice the Installation Notes!)
---------- Post added at 04:39 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:35 PM ----------
Forgot my last post, understood it false
What doixanh meant was GDX v014 and above can only be installed by CWM. There is no CWM 14.x. Not even koush has it.
Um OK guys you have gone way to fast for me (again :cyclops
I have just wiped the phone, updated it to latest sony firmware and i have just rooted it with busybox.
Please can someone take the time to explain my next steps ................
I have downloaded the toolbox above, but now what?
thanks again
I can tell you only MY way. Without the toolbox.
Guess you've 2.1 Stock ROM?
Rooted phone is necessary!
First, you will need RootExplorer.
There are ways to get it free
Download the apk, put it on your SDcard and install it with any of these random Filemanagers.
Then, follow my link above and download the update-binary.zip from nobodyAtall's CWM.
Read this site carefully,
If you don't have a recovery installed, using Root explorer: manually extract any of the above CWM recovery zips and copy the contents of the system folder (system/bin and system/xbin) to /system, then give 755 permissions to those files, especially to /system/bin/chargemon, or you'll get bootloop.
Click to collapse
Permissions on 755 = long press on the datafile, select "Permissions" in RootExplorer
It should look so:
x o x
x o x
x= checked boxes
o= unchecked boxes
Also look for google images, type in "755 permissions"
At rebooting, press the [BACK]-Button on your phone many times.
You should get into the CWM menu.
Do it step by step, post here, when you are ready. The last steps to install Custom ROM are simple
this seems very complicated to when i last upgraded my phone! Why have we made it such a task?
Im going to have another go today, if anyone else has an easier to follow guide i would love to know about it
the simplest way imo is to stay on stock kernel since the way i understood it you want to flash a gdx rom (which supports stock kernel). just use x8toolbox and install cwm. boot to recovery, ful wipe, then flash the rom.
again, it's the simplest way imo. not the best since unlocking your bl and flashing a custom kernel may be an option for you. btw, iirc gdx v28 can be flashed by xrecov (no guarantees). i think i did that. and just booted to cwm that's included in gdx to re-wipe and flash.

with the x8 toolbox download, what do you actually have to do with it?
Do i transfer all the files to the phones root? leave them on the desktop? Im a bit unsure - sorry again
i found this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1871817
i honestly never used x8toolbox. hope the link helps.
edit: if you're on a custom kernel, it probably has cwm already.

hey guys! sorry be such a newbie.. i have recently rooted my phone and im loving the root apps and all that jazz, i wanna try out some new themes and mods..
my question is.. once you install them.. if you dont like them.. how do you restore back to the original?
Any help would be appreciated! Thankyou!
f*** sorry didnt see the thing about not posting here til now.. delete this! i will go Q&A section
sorry!
Ask a mod to move your question into Q&A.
And to your question, if you unlock your bootloader and push a kernel using adb you'll have a recovery installed, use it to take a backup.
If you only want to have a rooted device with locked bootloader, install CWM recovery for locked BL's and take a backup there.
Easiest way is backup your phone framework-res, and SettingsUI apks.
Flash theme and if you don't like theme, then manually overwrite with earlier backups files over new themed framework-res.apk and SettingsUI.apk.
You can do this over adb, fastboot, or I recommend you "android commander"
No need then mess up with Full rom backup.

ROM Manager can't install CWM recovery on our Xperia devices.
We've to install it using ADB and by the way I think the problem is solved either way.
If your device has locked bootloader. Still you can flash your own firmware without userdata partition. Then root device again

if you are unlocked to don't have to keep the custom kernel. you can just hotboot the kernel, flash the zip and then reboot and it will be like you never flashed the kernel but you will be rooted.

You need fastboot.exe. If you have it then first download the SuperUser zip file from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24825517&postcount=105
And put it on your SD card.
Then download any kernel that has CWM support. There is one here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24826349&postcount=110
Then put your phone into fastboot mode (turn it off then plug it in while holding the Back button - the LED will turn BLUE - if it doesn't then try plugging in while holding the MENU button instead, I can never remember which one it is).
Then copy the kernel to your device like this:
fastboot boot recoveryARC.img
Your device will reboot - when the SONY logo goes bright start spamming the VOLUME DOWN button to enter Recovery.
Then flash the SuperUser.zip file from your SD card. Unplug the phone, reboot and you have root access. You should then head to Google Play and download Busybox Installer and install the latest release.
Good luck.
Isn't this the naff Chinese leaked build? Not the final one?
I think i'll wait for the dust to settle, too much hacking and failure stories right now, along with "fluff" from leaked betas and prereleases and lt15i owners trying to get stuff working.
This is the final release. I love it FWIW.
However, installing it was a PITA - I bricked my device three times before I got it right using Flashtool. But it's worth it - I've been running the beta since it was released and the performance of the final release is MUCH better.
Plus they seem to have supercharged the launcher - I'm only getting a redraw if I've been running a heavy game (Temple Run for example). The beta version would reload the launcher a lot.
There will be a new version of Flashtool that will allow the official FTF to be flashed without all the hassle - might be worth waiting for. The issue is with changing the partition table or something.
only fastboot doomkernel
then install su by recovery
then flash stock kernel by flash tool & exclude all other option
and reboot

Hi.
I'm in PA 3.0 (08 FEB Build), now i wanted to flash the lastest build but now it seems like we have to do something else apart of flashing the ROM, flash bootloader and radios? Why do I need to do this? I love PA but I dont understand why in this build I need to flash bootloader and radio.
About the kernel, to flash it, is the same way as the rom? Recovery, wipe cache/dalvik, reboot? That's all nothing else?
And the last thing, does Franco kernel r73 Works on the lastest PA build? (15 Feb)
[I was going to ask each thing in PA/Franco thread but I cant because of my level]

You don't *need* to upgrade your baseband and boot loader. The new version of PA is 4.
No, just wipe cache (you don't even really have to) and flash it. Just make sire if you come from franco.Kernel to flash the reset kernel before flashing a different one.
Yes, it should.

Also I'm with the PA 11-Feb release and
Goo manager says there's an update
The question is ;
How to that step by step ..
Thanks
If you guys are using PA before the FEB 15th build, you will need to wipe everything in recovery before flashing the new FEB 15th rom.
PLEASE READ THIS GUIDE
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2151498
Someone had already asked this question yesterday.
One more thing, you don't need the new bootloader or baseband. Yes, most of us love PA rom but you dont need it. The new bootloader and baseband were created by Google not Molesarecoming (One of the many developers of PA rom). It's nice to have the latest Google S**t anyways.
To add a kernel all you have to do is choose which one you want and flash it after you have finished flashing everything.
That's it. It's that simple.

STOCK ROM Xperia Z (C6603) 10.4.1.B.0.101 Generic UA (Unbranded Ukraine)
Hi all, this is my first take at creating a flashable zip which I tested and found working on my Unlocked Bootloader Xperia Z (C6603)
Stock ROM uploaded by @smardu http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50203976&postcount=68
Created using @[NUT]'s DIY Guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2307311 to create a flashable zip rooted with SuperSU, init.d & BusyBox built in with @[NUT]'s XZ Dual Recovery v 2.7.62
I have tested it on my Unlocked Bootloader Xperia Z (C6603) and found working. I have NOT tested on Locked Bootloader. If you are willing to try and let me know!
How I updated:
1. Make a nandroid backup just in case
2. Flash the flashable zip using PhilzTouch (only tested using PhilzTouch Recovery) - I am not sure if it will work on other recoveries
3. Once completed, do not restart your phone, power off the phone instead
4. Connect in Flashmode and Flash the Kernel
5. Reboot and once loaded into system, it should start showing Android is upgrading
I did not clear data or cache before flashing and so far it is working fine with me.
I have also included links to @[NUT]'s latest XZ Dual Recovery v 2.7.85-BETA.flashable as well as the working Xposed Installer Framework for 4.3.
DOWNLOADS:
GDrive Links:
ROM
KERNEL

CREDITS:
@[NUT] for the DIY Guide and Dual Recovery

Thanks!

I got a weird issue after flashing this rom..when my phone booted up for 1st time i got this repair icon in my screen, with the loading blue bar on the bottom (1st time i see this on my phone)...after a few minutes it booted up normally, but the only issue i got is that i cannot install any app through my file explorer...only through playstore..when i try to install one app through es explorer eg. i get "sorry,no application error".
Also, xposed framework has issues too..i can view my mods and they are applied to my phone, but when i try to update those who need update, xposed is crashing...so i can only use mods that are already installed through my previous rom.
Anyone has any idea what i did or what maybe went wrong?

What ROM were you previously on? Was it Odexed or Deodexed? And did you wipe data/cache/dalvik before flashing or did you dirty flash? Might work if you do a clean install.
OK, i just figured out my mistake...
I did everything from scratch and everything works flawless now..so i can confirm it is working on a locked bootloader..
So for your interest if someone does the same mistake as i did, just when flashing the kernel .ftf don't exclude anything..that caused my issues i think

I was on 4.3 odexed NCB stock, prerooted. I wiped only cache and dalvik before flashing. I messed up my system by trying another flashable rom that failed during flashing, and then i tried this method, zipped flashed fine, but i unchecked everything except kernel when flashing the .tft. Although i reflashed for 2nd time in a row the .tft, system still messed up. So i did everything from the beginning and now it works fine...
Glad i didn't had to wipe my data in the end...
Thanks for this rom/guide

Today I made a full working, flashable TWRP 3.0 recovery for our single SIM device. But do you still need it? Cause I made it for personal use, and if you do - I can post it here. Just need your answer. Thx!

Great, please upload it! Does it work with marshmallow? Just flash it in flashtool? And is it hotbootable as well?
Yes please post it!!
Yeah please upload it. I am eagerly waiting for it.
But rather put it into the development section then. And a question... What do you think about building cm for this device?
So, as soon as I finish some test for DualSim version - will post it here. Need also some help with thread creating - it will be first time when I create a new Dev thread on XDA, so I need to respect all stuff like credits, devs, license etc. PM me who can help.

Will start CM development a bit later, waiting an answer from my Z5 Dev-buddies, who will help. Stay tuned!
Guys from 4pda forum tested my recovery for both, and looks lije both work properly. So will post it here. Who don't want to wait for thread - PM me, will send direct link for download and instructions.
Guide for installing TWRP with link to download
Inside my Drive Folder head to Recovery folder and then download either twrp1 for SingleSim or twrp2 for DualSim
Drive Folder
Guide for installing
Put twrp1.img/twrp2.img to Fastboot folder
Hold Shift and then right click on tge window
Then "Open command line here"
In command line write "fastboot flash recovery twrp1.img/twrp2.img
Connect your phone holding Vol+ button
A blue LED will light up for a while, you will receive "Done or Ok" in command line
After that disconnect your phone abd turn it on
And when yellow LED will appear on Sony logo, press Vol+ one time
Soon you will enter the recovery main menu
twrp1.img for SingleSim and twrp2.img for DualSim respectively
This recovery doesn't have to be reflashed or rehotbooted - this is FOTA one, it will rest untill you reflash FOTA partition
Do I need to be rooted to do this? I have dual sim not locked bootloader and not rooted.

To root your phone flash custom kernel from This thread. Then flash my recovery (still uploading DualSim version, wait 5 min), and through recovery flash latest SuperSu binary and DRM Restore (for recover lost functions after unlocking Bl).
Really really awesome, I'm so happy the device finally gets some love! Should be just as well be flashed via flashtool, right?
Edit: oh and I'm really excited that you're trying to port cm

You can flash a custom kernel from another thread by using Flashtool. But to flash the recovery you need to use Fastboot. Maybe after I will merge kernel with recovery into one flashable unit, but I need some time to figure out how to do that. Stay tuned, cheers!

Give me a sign when you will do that, also report the results. Any additional questions - you're welcome. :highfive:

Excuse me, how can do that DRM Restore? I unlocked my BL long time ago without any Backups...
And one more thing, there is any Xposed version for the dual vers E6533?
Thanks a lot.

Yep, you can use the latest Xposed Framework (SDK 23). And about DRM Restore - just flash attached file and be happy. Cheers! ?

Can I flash the drmrestore onto a fully running system or does it have to be applied before first boot after rom install?

Am very thankful for all your help and knowledge, my resume is this:
- kernel flashed OK
- TWRP 2 launched OK
- SuperSU flashed OK
- drmrestore flashed OK (at this point I really start appreciate for the first time after months my device)
- Installed Xposed OK
Everything looking so good, I get some time installing lot of things... then I decided to make a Wipe cache / dalvik and unfortunately I get stuck at the boot screen.
Does you recommend anything?
