[Q] Correct me if I am wrong (rooting and installing ROM)

Hello,
I'm new to this forum and to Android OS in general. I bought Ideos X5 last month and I would like to root it and install the new ROM on it. So this is my understandig of the way I can do this.
First I have to root the phone with Super Boot (program used in one of the tutorials) and raplacing the boot.img with the (boot.u8800-modaco-superboot-r1) - found on modaco forum.
Then I have to put on the ClockworkMod by replacing recovery.img.
I backup* the phone in ClockworkMod and wipe all the data. And the last In the CM I choose the zip of my ROM.
So... I hope i get it. I have few more questions. If I use *backup* in CM it will return my phone to the ROM it was when the backup was done.
Is is neccesary to update firmware and why is good to do so?
Which is the best ROM to use?

You don't need to root.
Just put clockwork in and backup and install new ROM.

Exactly. Use PerfectBoot from here.
So this is the first thing to do, no rooting necessary. I suggest you try out Oxygen, and Miui (they both come prerooted). Why? They are based on Android 2.3.5, which has a much better battery life than the Huawei-ROMs and is much faster at the same time.

Is there any risk to brick my phone?

As long as you have CWM installed.. whatever happens you can always restore the files.. bricking it.. would be very hard.

Only on half root? Easy way without pc to get fully root on ics!

Not fully root on ics? Well no need to go back to rooted gingerbread to gain root again. No mobile odin ore odin app. And the best of all, no yellow triangel
1.First do a titanium back up.
2.All you need is the cwm app.
3.Download zip and unzip it.
4.Place firmware folder on external sd card and go to cwm app.
5.Than press Flash stock firmware.
6.Than pres continue.
7.You see app does not flash bootloaders, ignore and press continue.
8.You see warning about loosing root bla bla IGNORE and press continue.
9.Than press Flash normaly because i put the chainfire rooted kernel in the folder.
If it hangs on installing update, Just press power button for 8 sec. And do dalvic cache wipe and reboot, happend to me but seconde time will work.
Now your are on a fully rooted ics. The best base for installing a custom ics.

If you are on rooted gingerbread you can do this to you must i would say. Never flash a custom ics when coming from gingerbread!!!
You need a fresh install, i recommand this.

No after this your on a rooted ics if you want to leaf it like that. chinese ics odexed rom with chainfire rooted kernel.

why is this in the dev section? this should be as said in general

What do you mean? Weird is using odin i think. And no pc needed.

so this is basically equivalent to flashing the chainfire ics repack before flashing a custom rom then

No, chainfire is with odin app. Odin app is a paid app. Cwm app not. Not every one wants pay for a app.

I don't see an option for "5.Than press Flash stock firmware." am I missing something?

Please ignore this ^^^ I was being n00bish, thanks on the way, it allowed me to get to the point where I could reflash ICS and un semibrick my Note, thanks I now have full root

Apps that is good for developing and can give the amazing developer some cash for their hard work should all of us who is interested of flashing buy.

I strongly advise to not play with ICS unless you dont exactly know what you are doing and these instructions are just a joke

running LPF stock rooted... need some help...

It works great but i dont see the cwm app in my phone. I installed the cwm.zio after flashing the new rom but when i go to recovery now with power-home-volume up' it goes to Andtoid recovery instesd og cwm recovery. When i install cwm.zip from android recovery, it goes to cwm recovery and everythungs fine, but after a reboot its back to the same thing. No cwm recovery.
Can someone post a link tp cwm apk ?
And also how to get perm cwm recovery
Other then that the rom is rooted and supersu installed
Ps: also.. is there a working 15toggle for lpf?? i tried one for lpy and it had trouble mountig usb storagr!

You must be using the temporary CWM version. Go get cf-lpf kernel from development subforum.
As for your usb storage issues, use mtp.

i got the zimage for lpf & installed it. now my wifi wont conenct and the phones freezes all the time

dude.. the cf kernel and LPF are apparently a big mess.. hehe..
I found out the hard way ...so in case someone asks u next time, just tellem, theyre working on the issue... but right now..there is no fix

Cf kernel with ics very dangerous dont do it bad combination. Dont wipe in that situation.

So many people still didnt realize that danger in this bug. I dont understand.

Lots of time, it will seem okay to the majority because most users won't do a wipe unless necessary. Time will tell.

Untill there is safe kernel for ics be safe guys. Now because of the release source code samsung give we will not wait for to long before we see the light at the end the tunnel.

After so many bricks and so many warning from developers, there are still individual dare to run wipe in CWM??

Here is flasable zip file wich install latest ROM 23.0.1.A.4.30 which this time is customized UK, latest stable SuperSu v2.37 and latest beta Dualrecovery .154 for Tablet Z2 with read/write acces to system.
This is tested and works just fine though make nandroid backup before flashing.
Install it by flashing whole zip file with custom recovery. Wipes aren´t necessary but good practise.

Did a bit of research. Looks like it fixed smart cover bug and removes the non functional ultra stamina mode

Thanks guys for your kind word. This is still KitKat update. Haven´t seen chancelog but atleast Sony´s own cover works again as supposed and touchscreen seems to be more responsive.

Just wanted to add that I had to manually install the dual recovery. Installed fine but thought I'd mention it.

I am running 23.0.1.A.30 with a locked bootloader that I just installed ota, and lost root.
If if flash this over the top, will I get root back?

You need working custom recovery (TWRP) to flash this. So answer to your question is no.

Shoot.. I really am slipping.... I must have unlocked it at some point then because I do have nut's dual recovery onboard..
I should be able to flash over the top then... my only questions are if I do flash, will I have issues with the encryption keys, and how do I change the localization to us? ?

So you have working custom recovery? What exactly do you mean that you lost your root? Partial root or something else? If you have working custom recovery why not just flash latest SuperSu from here:

And then about encrytpion keys. Do you mean that you have encrypted your device or perhaps DRM keys? Flashing prerooted firmware have no effects to your device DRM keys if you mean that.

I had root and lost it in the ota... superuser says such not installed... I just went in and tried recovery and it did not come up, so I am assuming it flashed me back to stock in more ways then one... I am now looking at your zip to get root back if I can get dual recovery back on the tablet.

you dont need an unlocked bootloader for nut recovery. my bl is locked and i have nut recovery installed

Yes if you have root. However with newer firmwares dualrecovery rooting function don´t work any more becose it use towelroot wich Sony has patched.

OK.. I am hosed then... i will either need to find a way of downgrading or will wait for new root.. I think I want to downgrade though.. how to do that though.....

You are welcome.
You need Flashtool and correctly installed drivers for it and rootable firmware in ftf format. If I remember correctly latest was 17.1.2.A.0.314. If you want to I believe you can use this one: https://mega.co.nz/#!kcxxjaLA!itErjRi2fYPPswal-c7XasF_lAvPKyY4GwEzY3xgHZ0 It is for SGP511 but memory size is only difference between devices. Or you can find one from general forum.

I think I know what I will do...
I want to have a stock rooted feel.
Download ftf from sony for stock through sony pc companion(save this in case...)
Run prf creator (http://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/tool-prfcreator-easily-create-pre-t2859904) and add root and recovery
use flashtool to put on Nordic with root and custom recovery
use the recovery from nordic to flash the rooted stock firmware.
I should be golden then right?
Last questions though. Do I need to be unlocked to do this and will my DRM keys stay good?

If I understand you correctly you´ll be fine. In Sony servers for SGP512 and SGP511 Nordic region there are only firmware versions of 23.0.1.A.0.167. Not older or newer.

No you don´t need to unlock your bootloader and your DRM keys will be just fine.

Thank you. Short answer is that as long you have root access you can install prerooted firmwares so basically same way you do with this prerooted firmware. Credits how to make prerooted firmwares are in op. Some point there is no method to root newer firmwares without unlocking your bootloader so I did that too but because backed up TA partition I´m back with rooted device and locked bootloader.

Yes, it works perfectly with MM, as it was designed for MM

Will start CM development a bit later, waiting an answer from my Z5 Dev-buddies, who will help. Stay tuned!

Guys from 4pda forum tested my recovery for both, and looks lije both work properly. So will post it here. Who don't want to wait for thread - PM me, will send direct link for download and instructions.

Guide for installing TWRP with link to download
Inside my Drive Folder head to Recovery folder and then download either twrp1 for SingleSim or twrp2 for DualSim
Drive Folder
Guide for installing​
Put twrp1.img/twrp2.img to Fastboot folder
Hold Shift and then right click on tge window
Then "Open command line here"
In command line write "fastboot flash recovery twrp1.img/twrp2.img
Connect your phone holding Vol+ button
A blue LED will light up for a while, you will receive "Done or Ok" in command line
After that disconnect your phone abd turn it on
And when yellow LED will appear on Sony logo, press Vol+ one time
Soon you will enter the recovery main menu
twrp1.img for SingleSim and twrp2.img for DualSim respectively
This recovery doesn't have to be reflashed or rehotbooted - this is FOTA one, it will rest untill you reflash FOTA partition

Do I need to be rooted to do this? I have dual sim not locked bootloader and not rooted.

To root your phone flash custom kernel from This thread. Then flash my recovery (still uploading DualSim version, wait 5 min), and through recovery flash latest SuperSu binary and DRM Restore (for recover lost functions after unlocking Bl).

Really really awesome, I'm so happy the device finally gets some love! Should be just as well be flashed via flashtool, right?

You can flash a custom kernel from another thread by using Flashtool. But to flash the recovery you need to use Fastboot. Maybe after I will merge kernel with recovery into one flashable unit, but I need some time to figure out how to do that. Stay tuned, cheers!

Excuse me, how can do that DRM Restore? I unlocked my BL long time ago without any Backups...
And one more thing, there is any Xposed version for the dual vers E6533?

Yep, you can use the latest Xposed Framework (SDK 23). And about DRM Restore - just flash attached file and be happy. Cheers! ?

Am very thankful for all your help and knowledge, my resume is this:
- kernel flashed OK
- TWRP 2 launched OK
- SuperSU flashed OK
- drmrestore flashed OK (at this point I really start appreciate for the first time after months my device)
- Installed Xposed OK
Everything looking so good, I get some time installing lot of things... then I decided to make a Wipe cache / dalvik and unfortunately I get stuck at the boot screen.
Does you recommend anything?
