Hey guys I recently picked up a G1 from my friend and I went through the process of getting it unlocked ton work on my At&t sim which works very well and I love it even though I did lose 3g its still nice. But I am running into a problem I have a 4gb SD card in it but when I try to format it or do anything with it, it says theres no memory card installed. Is there something I am missing or is my SD slot dead? I would really like to get this fixed since there are a few apps I would like to toy around with but they all require the SD card functioning.
Any help you guys can provide would be appreciated.
You should probably attempt to format/mount this card with a separate card reader.
If the phone is rooted and has a custom recovery installed, you can enter recovery by holding down the home button and power button while the device is turned off. If there is a custom recovery installed you should have an option for "console"
Code:
mount /sdcard <enter>
df<enter>
Post back and tell us if you see anything for /dev/block/mmcblkp(number) if any.
Thanks.
I never rooted the phone and the old owner wasn't smart enough to even try lol so that's out of the question I guess I'll have to try and hook it up to my old S621 when I get a chance.

your card might be dead, my best guess. worst case scenario, your microsd slot is broken
the sd isn't dead. I can plug it into my computer and it works perfectly so I am gonna assume its my sd slot but still wanna test it on my other phone before I contact HTC to see if they will repair it.
You also may want to try the good ol' Nintendo fix (blow in the slot).
If you are feeling extra curious, take it apart and clean the contacts with a toothbrush. So, uh... good luck with that.
meh tried the sd card on my buddies phone and it came up saying unexpected error when he tried to reformat it so I am assuming the card is dead. Oh well at least I have a 1g to fall back on. Ty guys for the help.
Guys, I need a bit of advice please.
After an accidentally botched radio install (phone fell and disconnected from USB whilst flashing), my HD2 won't boot. It gets stuck on the multi-coloured 'initial screen' (for want of a better expression) with 'SPL-1.42.HPSL XE CotullaHSPL' on it.
I'm looking to do one of two things, either rescue it, or, PREFERABLY kill it completely so that the device does not even boot to that screen. I know that sounds like a strange preference, but that would be ideal for me. Have you got any suggestions at all guys?
If you want to send it back and get a new one, then you definetly have to remove HSPL. Get HSPL2 and try to flash 1.42.0000. If it works, your problem is solved! Simply take it to customer service, complain about it not booting all of a sudden and you`ll either get a new one or get yours fixed.
However... if you fail removing HSPL and have no other option available, try and microwave it, literally. Put it in a microwave oven until it refuses to boot, then take it back to customer service complaining about how it suddely stopped working.
Best of luck!
Quite LITERALLY put it in the microwave and turn the microwave on?? For how long? Won't it just 'melt' the innerds, or blow up?
Yep. I did this to mine in 10 second intervals. The first time nothing happened, it just got hot. The second time, the vibrations stopped working. The third time nothing. The fourth time the screen started to fail (but STILL booted into the bootloader). The fifth time it only booted with a white screen and I stopped, as I had acheived what I wanted and the screen was already pretty damaged.
Thanks, a very, er, interesting suggestion. However I want the phone to look the same, i.e undamaged! But be bricked. If it's not possible, then I'll have to try and rescue the poor thing .
Best decision you could take. Hope you succeed!

Does it show USB on the bootloader(multi-color) screen?
If it does you can flash a new radio/rom and maybe fix it ...
Or Flash from SDcard
I've managed to flash it to stock 1.43 from SD card, which appears to have also removed the HSPL. This is a win. However, I would still like to brick the phone so I can get a brand new replacement... I really could use a sure fire (but safe, and does not cause hw damage) brick method.
hspl, task29, remove hspl. you`ll get a white htc logo screen without the ability to enter bootloader.

A friend (and yes - it was actually an friend and not me!) allegedly did this:
He took the socket from the end of an extension lead, put the plug into the mains socket and then VERY CARFULLY and very briefly touched the bare Live and Neutral wires onto the battery terminals in the phone.
240V into the circuit board apparently did the trick

I think he was very silly to do this cos he could've hurt himself so please don't follow his example!

Hmm, yes, a method that doesn't involve microwaves or 240 volts would be preferable .

This kind of talks (insurance fraud) is illegal.

Yesterday it got a little flakey. I had to reboot a couple times when the marketplace stopped working. Now I am stuck at a samsung logo any time I turn it on. Ive done the hard reset...
I had it happen to me too, and all I did was insert a 32GB Class 2 Sandisk card two days before it bricked.
Were you playing around in the Diagnostic Menu?
Someone posted a way on how to do a complete hard reset (not the one in the manual). But i think you may have to access the WP7 software.

Yea, its in the phone, but you need access to the software as you said.
happened to me on the mytouch with CM6, i simply accessed the bootloader and put on a new ROM, im not sure if this is much help in your case but if you can access the bootloader screen you should be fine...
Do you have a sd card
Do you have a seperate sd card if so remove it then do a hard reset.
hello folks,
I have seen some threads talking about some WM device freezing in bootup, and stick in the 1st screen when it says "stick together", I had the same problem, and I did contacted HTC for support, it seems they dont have a solution for that problem but to send the phone to them, whicj gonna take around 10 or 15 days to get back -if the warranty still in effect- and they probably gonna charge you something more than the shipping back fees, cause you flashed your device.
I was Planing to send my phone this monday, but i though lets try something and see what gonna happen, so what i did is :
1 - take you SIM card and your SD card, (don't connect your phone to your PC)
2 - While holding the VolUp press the Power button, you will see a screen with your device information
3 - Now connect your device to you PC, and use one of the Wm costume ROM, don't worry about the guide line, and about the winSync instruction, cause it do work without windows Sync
4 - follow the instruction on the costume ROM application, and just ignore the WmSync one.
your phone will reboot, and you probably gonna see your device radio and room information.
I just did the sameting to fix my device, I don't know if just got lucky
But I do have a problem now, I cant install android on my device, and when i try to lunch CLRCAD, it does not start, even when i lunch haret, the device reboot, if someone know a fix to that problem, so may help me.
dude, out of your three posts, two have been new threads that are strictly related to user-problems in a developmental sub-forum, which just isn't cool.
its like someone walking into your work meeting and asking about the lunch schedule (not the best analogy, but you get the point)
if you're really stuck in something, a hard reset always restores things nicely

i'm just trying to stay in the dark, waiting for the moment to say something useful, by the way hard reset does not work all the time
The only time a hard reset does not work is if there is something wrong with your phone or somehow you corrupted your ROM. In that case going into Bootloader and upping a new ROM does the trick. A Task29 will really fix things well.
As far as "launching" CLRCAD...it does nothing ANYWAY! You just tap it and that is it...it merely sets up the phone for Android to have sound, nothing more...no prompts, no hour glass nothing. (A SEARCH or reading the first post would have told you this.)
If you get resets in Haret then Android did not load correctly. Merely delete your data.img and start over. If that does not work then you likely corrupted your Android build....format your SD card and reload Android from scratch.
I personally have backed up my working daily build on a weekly basis so in case my Android gets hosed, I merely have to copy my entire backup (which is just a copy of my SD card on my computer) back to the SD card after a format (but have yet to really have a need for this except months ago).
Hello all i have a really strange problem. My Trophy is 1 month old, today it restarted itself alone and gave me the message that my SD Card is not working right and i need to replace it. I hate HTC for not making the slot accesable.
Now it's very complex to use the warranty, because i am from Bulgaria, the phone is bought from Germany, from ebay and on and on ...
Is there a way to test if the problem is the actual SD Card. If i am sure of that i will replace the lame thing on my own. Do someone from you have / had a similar problem ?
Thanks all.
Well, you could remove the SD Card from the phone (as described on the forums) and format the SD Card with a Nokia Symbian phone (E71 or else) and then test the card in a cardreader in your pc.
To be honest; I would just replace the SD Card. It isn't so much work and the cards are relatively cheap. The only other option seems to be trying to claim your warranty - but that might be difficult as you mentioned.
If you are tech savy and confindent, just open it up and drop a new 32 GB card in there yourself. We got plenty of forums posts around here, with how to open it up or even what types of cards to purchase.
If not, even though it may be a pain with the warranty based on what you told us, just send it over to HTC.
I am confident and i know i can do it. It's not a problem to open an replace. I am a little bit concern about the actual problem. If , and it's not something impossible , the card is just dead, this will be good. It's a common thing SD cards to fail. But if i void the warranty and the actual problem is in the mainboard itself, this will be a problem.
Probably only HTC has the ability to run diagnostics and test out if its the SD card or something else... but you will only know once you open it up.
I feel for your decision mate, g'luck.
Have you tried performing a hard Reset?
(Hold both volume buttons and switch the phone on)
I sure did. The first time it helped for about 20 mins. Than the card was gone again. The bootloader is reporting it as a SanDisk 61mb class 0 at the moment.
So i will open the phone, the warranty thing is not going to happen. Way to complicated, sadly.
One thing to ask. Because in the card replacing thread in the forum, after you put the the new card you must hard reset from the phone settings - My phone is hard reseted at the moment but it wont boot without a proper card. So i cannot pass the Error message. Do you thing that this is not going to be a problem, as the phone needs to be set right after that screen? I thing a the new card wont be a problem if it's properly detected ?
