You guys using one at the moment?
Since the screen is that super-space-age-made-out-of-unicorn-blood glass, do I still need a screen protector?
Im not bothering with screen protector, there good screens to prevent scratches and feel better without. I have purchase a case but will only use that now and then .

I've ordered a case and screen protector too.
I doubt either are necessary but I'd rather not kick myself a few weeks/months down the line...

I'll toss on Invisible Shield or similar and get a leather pouch. Its sufficient to keep the natural look and protect it while in the pouch.
I ordered a silicon case today. Just really to give it a bit more bulk. The phone feels a bit flimsy or light in the pocket. I tend to forget its there. Hopefully this will help. Who would have though thin is bad.
Was thinking of grabbing one of those too. Lemme know how it feels.

Anyone going with a naked screen? I just got a trident case. It came with a screen protector. I like the feel of the glass better. Gorilla glass 2 unscratchable?

The screen isn't scratch proof. So if you care about getting scratches kn your screen, then get a screen protector.

serious? the back cover is easily replaceable and cheap to. The screen on the other hand not so much.
I hate screen protectors. I haven't used one since I got Galaxy S OG (epic). It had gorilla glass and it never ever scratched. Got an S2, same thing. I have no reason to think differently on this one either. Besides if by some chance it does, I have BB insurance and will just get it replaced.
And I really hate cases. One of the major selling points of the phone is the sleek design, why would I ruin that with a case??? dumb. but thats just me
Totally nude here. I never use cases or protectors. The last time I scratched a display, it was a resistive screen. I did scratch my work phone Thunderbolt screen though, but I keep it in my pocket with my keys. lol
Nude! Just using a case. I can't find a screen protector I like.

What type do people usually use. I normally never use one, but I bought a Zagg for the front. I also have heard of Spigen, but haven't really found a review that pits them against each other.
I tried a SGP Ultra Nano Clear and it was ok, but I like the ZAGG that I've got on my One X (I know...I'm one of the few that like them!) So, I went by Best Buy today and had them install the ZAGG Invisishield HD on my brand spanking new GSIII. Funny story, though...
The guy that was installing it confessed it was only about the 4th or 5th one he'd installed. But he made a good point...if they do it, they've got multiple chances to get it right, whereas if I did it and screwed it up, I'd have to start over (this is the first wet-install screen protector I've used...the one on my One X was on it when I bought it second-hand).
Anyway, he goes through the process and once he gets done, he tells me that through trial and error, they've come to realize that the ones for the GSIII are better if you install them upside-down. His reasoning was that this way, the front-facing camera is covered (whereas it's usually not). Whatever, I thought...he knows what he's doing.
So, I get in the car and about 5 minutes down the road I realize part of it is overlapping the home button (because, obviously, that part is supposed to be AT THE TOP!) So, I head to the other Best Buy in town (because I'm now closer to it) and I show it to them. The guy just sat there and stared in amazement. He said, when did he install it? I said about 30 minutes ago. His only words? "Dumbass". So, he got another one out and installed it correctly and it's working perfectly. I let it sit in the front seat of my car for about an hour so the heat would cure it and it worked great.
The only downside is that it covers nearly to the edge of the screen and it's just slightly off-center. My favorite case now wants to lift it on that side. Since these things have a lifetime warranty, I may just run back by Best Buy and have them install another one and get it more centered. But as far as the feel and clarity goes, I'm really liking the ZAGG Invisishield HD.
Yea my screens fine unlike the people who drop there phone 24,7. Hate the way if you drop your phone, screen side down it makes a huge crack.

I've ordered a screen protector and a case. Based on the tons of comments I've seen about the screen getting scratched, I am taking no chances with a as device expensive as this.
I went with the highest rated screen protector on Amazon to start with, as well as a $10 TPU case. I might get an Otterbox later if they go down in price or go on sale.
Screen protector
I was looking at Ghost Armour and XO skins. Has anyone used them? They are pricey but have lifetime warranty and look nice.
Any particle of sand is stronger than any Gorilla Glass by the sheer virtue of quartz (sand) having a higher hardness than borosilicate glass (gorilla glass).
Harder substance will always scratch softer ones.
I REALLY love how the N4 looks without anything on, so sleek and sexy, but as we all know that back glass panel will break eventually with no case :crying: SO my question is this, what are your guys suggestions on protection without hindering the awesome design. I love showing off the beauty of the N4 so I use a bumper and make sure I'm very careful with it :]

Screen protector in front and a crystal clear case behind.
Ive done the same for my past 2 phones and have never had an issue. The only problem I can see is when sticking the nexus in my pocket as its loose in the pocket untill I sit down then it obviously tightens up. so any coins or what not in there will press nicely against the glass.
When the glasses are readily available and cheap enough I ditch the shocksock but for now it stays.
I use:;
BestSkinsEver front and back protector
Diztronic hard case
Shocksock pouch.
The pouch is perfect for going out and about and will absorb some impact as its like the neoprene laptop sleeves.
Gorilla Glass 2 I believe is decent against scratches. At least v1 on my HTC Incredible S was good so I'm hoping v2 is decent too. Still have the stock scratch guards on the front and back. See no reason to remove them. The one on the back has a lip which was coming out because of my finger so I cut off a small portion. Scratches should be taken care of.
For drops, I ordered a soft gel case off Amazon but I couldn't get it due to delivery issues and friend returned to India. Got a refund but am looking at an Amzer case in a few days. I want the bumper people are raving about on xda.. Will ask my UK friend to pick one up soon.
Other than that, super careful with the phone because it is hot.

A best skins ever for the front and back, and an official bumper for the sides is the best you can do.
Currently naked but I haven't taken it out of the house yet. I'll probably end up leaving it naked and just taking extra care of it.
When I think about how often my Galaxy 2 hit the floor, I shudder. Amazingly, for the amount of times it fell it was in an amazing condition - slightly bruised corners but apart from that just perfect. What I did notice, though, was that when it fell the back case popped off, so I imagine the shock it received upon contact had less of an impact than it would otherwise have had, had the back been unmovable - as is the case with the Nexus.
I started with a front and back Zagg invisible shield but opted to add a ringke slim to make the thing less likely to slip out of my hand.

my White Ringke Slim does just the opposite. It feels like it can just slide out of my hand. I think the phone in its naked form has better grip than with the ringke slim case because of the "rubber" feeling around it
My nexus 4 has been naked for a month now and it feels and looks so great. In some ways I have been thinking about using a case after the inevitable dings and scratches. I guess resale condition makes wrapping up a new phone a necessity but it seems like kind of a shame. I may just do things opposite this time and wrap up after u have enjoyed my naked phone for a while. I do have a case on the way for travel and other times when protection seems obvious.
Anyone else think this way or am I crazy?

Naked so far with no problems.
Just reserve one pocket for the Nexus exclusively to avoid coins or keys scratching the glass.
However, given the anemic ring volume the speaker produces, I'm missing calls, so I'll probably have to switch to a holster once a decent one becomes available.

Hiya guys,
I was just wondering if anyone else has either used xoskins or xtreme guard protectors and been left feeling disappointed? I originally had an SGP ultra on my nexus 4 but I was feeling a little annoyed that it didn't cover the full screen. Other than that they're perfect, nice screen hardness difficult to scratch and leave the screen looking amazing. I really thought the xoskins one would be perfect so I paid the price and ordered (shipped from US to UK).
Finally arrived, installed straight away. Let me just say I've fitted lots of screen protectors before to various phones and I'm pretty good at it. So much so friends and family ask me to do theirs for them. Still, the xoskins one felt a little fiddly. The solution they provide makes it very slippy, so using the squigy afterwards made it squirm around which was annoying. Also, even though both sides were wet the squigy still left slight burns after only 3-4 swipes. It took a full 48 hours for it to dry.
The cut on the protector was good, and it was nice and clear. It seemed to leave a slight orange peel effect across the screen though, and I had 4-5 thin rainbow type lines/scratches about 1cm long on the one side which were clearly on the underside of the protector (all perfectly straight and all facing down perfectly so I'm thinking manufacturing fault?). The feel of the protector was frankly awful. It flexes under finger and restricted swiping somewhat. Worst of all, any slight knock leaves imprints. I tested it by lightly rubbing my nail across it, it left a clear mark that was there for 2-3 days! It flexes way more than I'd like, I can't see it providing much protection from knocks tbh. Granted I wouldn't do this in normal usage but any other knocks left imprints too.
So I removed it, and thought I'd try the xtreme guard. My god, I've never used such a rubbish protector. The cut is dubious at best, the screen clearly looks worse when its on and it suffers from the same indentations and flexing as the xoskins ones.
Maybe I've been spoilt by the SGP ones (I still have the back protector SGP skin on there as its a perfect fit as its flat) or maybe all wet application protectors are like this to be more flexible for the curved glass?
Either way I've ordered another set of SGP protectors and I'll put up with the exposed edges. I'm sure there's people out there that are happy with their protectors, but I just wanted to share my experiences.
Wet applied screen protector can never compete with the dry one..even the $1 junk one.
I took off my Xtremeguard and using the junk that came with my nillkin case..which is still much clearer than the xtremeguard.
But I keep the back of xtreme since it make it less slippery.
Glad its not just me who found this then I can see how having a *stickier* back protector could be beneficial. The SGP one I have is still rather slippy. Hoping it will help strengthen the back though in case it has any accidents The SGP ones saved my iPhone 4 before. One was a drop from my ear onto a wooden floor!
It's nice to read that I am not the only one who dislike the Xtreme guard screen protectors.
I just cant believe how sticky it feels and how much it gets scratches and dents.
I've got a fillkin flip case comming my way as well so I think I'm also going to replace the front xtreme guard screen protecotr with the nillkin one.
One thing to keep in mind for all wet protectors is that when you need to push out the bubbles, never used a squeegee. It is very difficult to avoid burns on the surface with a squeegee. Instead wet your finger tips and push the bubbles out with your finger. Much easier and doesn't leave burn marks.
If you absolutely need to use a squeegee, the paper one provided by SGP (ironically) is pretty good for wet protectors. Use the corner as much as possible and don't push too hard.
I myself prefer dry protectors as well but there are indeed some good things about wet ones. They are very scratch resistant, provide more grip, and doesn't show finger prints as much.
The xo skin i have is trash the front has so many random Knicks and bubbles and stuff the back does too but I'm going to leave that on and just use these 3 for $5 screen protectors from amazon until the glass protector comes out with reviews

I am using the XG and granted it has it's orange peel look to it, but I don't mind it. The look reminds me that I have a sp on and I can safely put the phone in my Seidio holster without looking. LOL.
Yes, the screen looks way better with a dry sp on, but I am happy with the cutouts and fitment. And plus doesn't affect the Diztronic Ultra hard case at all when taking off or putting on. Which is good IMO.
Am I 100% happy? No, I say maybe 96%. But for the price of 3 front and backs for 6 bux. I can't really complain too much.
Xtreme Guard are excellent. You just need to take your time applying it and pushing out the bubbles. Minimal orange peel and the protection is perfect around the curved edges.
After having mine on for nearly a week i'd still disagree. I have no bubbles or marks on the xg but it does have the black spots issue I've read about which suck! The cuts off on mine everything is aligned perfectly with screen edges but 1/4 of the camera lens is covered. Honestly its not how I fitted it. The feel is also pretty bad. I genuinely cannot wait until I get my new SGP ones.
Xoskins replied to my email about 4-5 days after I showed photos of the defects. They are sending me out a new protector at least. Will probably sell it on eBay to claw back some cash.
I'm not going to bother emailing xg as they're cheap and tbh I won't be going near their protectors again!
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
The problem I had with XO Skins was that the protector for the back of my n4 had a little pin hole in it! Luckily they are replacing it free of charge, including shipping! Which is good cause I'm in the UK and did not want to pay to send it back to the US.
The protector for the screen however has been brilliant, I've had it for about two weeks on there and the sort of rubbery feeling goes away and it feels very similar to the glass on touch. If a little more squishy. It does not drag against my finger anymore.
As for bumps leaving marks, I've noticed that, but they always go away within about thirty seconds.
All the bubbles have disappeared on my screen and its very clear.
I definitely agree with the OP about the application process though, the solution makes it very slippery, which is good when trying to position the skin. But when using the squeegee to push out the air bubbles and liquid the skin moved everywhere. After that though, it dried family quickly, did leave it overnight anyway.
I'd say I'm pretty pleased with my XO Skins purchase.

Why not? I'm talking about the front facing camera not on the rear. My SGP ones arrived this morning so the xg one was ripped off almost straight away so unfortunately I can't take you a photo to show you.
The cut was definitely off, there was some extra material right in the dip of the cut out that goes around the lens as if it hadn't been cut cleanly. The dip wasn't rounded like it should of been. Maybe I just got a bad one in this respect, but it shows there is very little quality control. Especially as mine also suffered from the same black spots I've seen elsewhere.
The bottom of the protector was literally up against the chrome rim, I couldn't of positioned it any lower so it wasn't due to bad positioning. It was just poorly made.
I've just ordered a Nillkin case which will hopefully help protect the bits of glass the SGP ones miss. The feel and screen clarity is so much nicer!
Well, xoskins replacement arrived today. It had been put into an envelope that has a bright blue lining and the edges of the protector now have a lovely blue haze. Great! It didn't even have a piece of card in to stop bending etc. so lucky it survived at all.
Not even worth trying to sell it, If I purchased one off ebay myself and it had this haze I'd be gutted. Really disappointed with them.
I did notice they seem to of changed the design too. My previous xoskins one had a U shaped cut out for both the front camera and the proximity sensor. This new replacement has O shaped holes for both so that there is something actually protecting the top edge all the way along.
That sounds like your first one was a case fit and your new one is a full skin. When I got a replacement it came sealed in a baggy, crazy. I would hit them up again.

The first one I had definitely went right up to the chrome edges on every part other than the top by the proximity sensor and camera where there was a U shape.
I'll drop them another email and see what happens. They can only say no.
Well, what can I say? I'm using the xg for the front and for the back of my nexus 4 and I'm very pleased with it. I have them on for about 2 weeks now and everything is well..
The cut of the xg protector is one of the best out there. In my past galaxy nexus I used a clear screen protector and every 2 months I had to change it with a new one because of the dust that got under it... Causing to many bubbles.
That's not the case with the xg protector. This thing is not going anywhere.. And I also use it with the official LG bumper case with no problems..
I'll try to upload some pictures for you to see.. The only disadvantage is that the feel of the xg protector is worst from other clear screen protectors, using the dry install method.

I just noticed a few scratches that I'll have to live with.. Maybe I'll have to buy a case now (thought going naked would have been fine)
I know there are plenty of topic on this, but most cover actual defects.
Btw, just wanted to say that I LOVE this device. No way I'm returning. Not even this unit! Can't! Spent soo much time customizing it, and even the benchmarks are slightly above average
Anyway... My problem right now is the chamfered edges and the bottom speaker grill.
The silver One is susceptible to the same amount of scratches as the Black One, albeit they won't be as prominent on the silver variant.
The unit I'm talking about is actually a replacement. The first One I owned had defects, but even for the short time I had it, it somehow managed to build a few dents and scuffs on the chamfered edge up at the top speaker grill.
This time, the problem's on the bottom! I have a few scuffs on the bottom chamfered edge... It's been 4 days in my possession, and already is growing hits and dings. Now here's the interesting part.. As a university student, school's out and the phone has pretty much left the house only once! Other days it laid either in my hand, on my pocket, or on the floor right by my bed.
I looked at it and thought that maybe I can polish them when they get worse.. But things took a turn for the worse right away!! As I was examining the scuffs on the edge, I came across a hairline scratch that extended from the bottom of the lower speaker grill to the top (of the speaker grill) -- almost like a crack -- a hairline crack. Looks as if a pencil lightly went over it.
I've attached photos for your viewing pleasure, but as minor as they appear, note that it's only been about 4 days!! I'm wondering what'll come out of it over an extended period of use.. Guess I can live with whatever has happened to date though =]
*please note that the images aren't too good a representation of the actual damage to the device. It's slightly worse in person -- the abundance of light blurs the scratches a bit.
Arghhh the photos have since showed less of the damage as I had to resize the images to 640* 425 (instead of 4288 * 2848 )
To me, it's just like a dead pixel. You can't tell it's there in normal use, but once you find it, it'll haunt you for a while. At one point you won't care.. But when you see it again, you'll start kicking yourself.
I've been babying my phone, but I think it's time for me to go up onto Amazon and buy myself a good case. *flies to look at the Accessories forum*
Any of you folks keeping your phone naked experience any unexplained scuffs and nicks on your edges? Scratches on your speaker grill?
You guys think that we'd be able to -- at some point -- replace the speaker grills with OEM parts? I'm sure people will come across much worse problems...
No matter what device, what manufacture or what materials the device is made out of, if you don't use a case, this will happen and worst. Your scratches are barely visible. I had to zoom in the picture to see them.
I don't have the device yet but I already have 3 cases for it and a pack of screen protectors. The official flip case and 2 tpu s line cases, one black and one clear.
Sent from my HTC myTouch 4g using xda premium
I agree. I guess it's just that I'm bummed it happened so soon!
I'll learn to live with this. I don;t think I'm ready for a case just yet. The cases I've seen so far don't look too good and add way too much bulk. The slimmer ones don't cover the top and bottom chamfered edges...
I'll keep looking. I do have full body screen protection, except it only covers the screen itself and the rear of the device. Speaker grills (understandably) are left to be in the open
Did you check the phone over when you got it? Just asking as I've seen a one or two with some nicks and scratches out of the box I'm guessing it happened when polishing the chamfered edge.
Man, how do you use your phone to manage to put these scratches and dents.
I have had the phone since last Friday with daily use and no scratches, I just put a skinomi clear film in the back to protect against scratches and dents, the front is naked, looks beautiful, you don't even notice the film is there
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 2
I have films on the back and front of the device myself!
I honestly do not know where these came from. It's been on my desk or on the floor by my bed. Hasn't left the house -- maybe just once..
Anyway I attached another saddening photo. This was taken with my old Atrix.
I'm thinking that this may have been a result of missing the charging port and accidentally sliding the micro usb plug into the front of the phone while I was half asleep...
Anyway, I'm sitting here and there's much greater things to worry about. It could have been much worse... A random scratch on the screen or a deeper nick...
Besides, the bottom speaker grill is a separate piece and if it continues to get scratched up and continues to bother me, I'll just see if i can get it replaced..
Hope I actually move on. This is the same feeling as when I found a dent on my $700 guitar.. I got over that. So ill probably get high over this
Aha I'm wondering what it'll feel like when I find a small scratch on my first new car -_-... Boy will I be a mess!

Aluminum is a soft metal, unlike titanium or other harder metals. They chose aluminum because it is light weight.
So do you think black is more durable? I'm going to buy One today so I might considering buying black instead if thats the case.
Btw usually stratches goes away when wiped properly. At least do on my black One S. Dents, however, stays forever.

Yep. But I'm hoping that maybe next year they make the switch to a harder metal like steel... The OPPO Find 5 allegedly has a steel frame construction. Sure it's heavy, but if they get the right look, whatever! Durability should be of more importance than weight..
Now if it does weigh too much, maybe implement the steel construction only around certain areas...
I'm aware this will pull up costs, but the device would be that much better!

There's another thread about scuffs on the black edition. Maybe I've got too far... You can't see this if you're not looking for them, but to me they'll always be there.
I've seen multiple accounts of folks on here see through their black paint into the aluminum underneath.. You'd want to avoid that.. So I don't regret having the silver edition.
They both scratch the same amount, but the black shows more..
Good luck and I hope you enjoy your One just as much as I am!
Choose the device that also to you more! If you like the stealthy black, but that! But if you do, go for the Poetic Atmosphere case.. Looks pretty nice on the black variant.. The silver one.. Not so much.
Still going to look for a case, but it isn't my priority.. I'd rather keep the phone naked and enjoy the cool feel everyone I touch it in the morning!

I've wipes this, took a moist set of wipes below the actual holes, but nothing. There is a scratch, not a surface scratch, it's slightly deeper.
100% sure this ain't going away.. But i haven't lost all hope! As this phone e grows in popularity, some ebay sellers will manage to get their hands on some grills and they should be replaced rather easily since they're in there only via an adhesive. Would have been more ticked off if it was on the screen, on the chamfered edge off of the back, or even on the back itself..
Here's hoping the grills are replaceable and I can do something about it in maybe 6 months!

No idea what to say. I'm keeping it naked. Maybe this was from the factory.. I don't see how you can get a scratch from the bottom to the top of a grill without taking your phone out much...
Maybe I didn't notice this before, but i still am worried about the durability of the device. If pocketnow reports bad durability, then I've got no option but to go with a case. Right now i dont even know where these came from.. No sand in my room, no hard metals that would easily scratch anodized aluminum..
It really IS a mystery...

yes the part which worries me the most is the possibility of hardshell covers actuall doing damage as you attempt to place them
this is why HTC's own double flip / dip are actually a lot softer to install
this exactly why im sticking to slim transparent rubber covers

Tell me about it! When I bought snap on cases for my Atrix, the plastic around the phone was soo scuffed it actually looks nasty without a case. Definitely not making that mistake again!
I don't think tpu or hardshell plastic cases can really damage the aluminum bezel as aluminum is harder..
But it's still something I worry about and a case like the one you linked to is just perfect.

Oh Crap. Overlooked that!
Wow..
Kay so time to look for a similar case to the one you've got
I want to keep the beauty of the HTC One visible while still protecting it from further scratches...
Everything over on the accessories forum doesn't really cut it go me :/...
I'll go to this mall that pretty much just sells phone cases and phones. Hopefully I find a store that has what I want for a reasonable price

Probably the thinnest, plastic case around. does not add bulk like otter cases do. you should check it out...

Also, it's aluminum. Whoever thinks aluminum, a softer metal, won't scratch, is lying to themselves.

I feel you but the cheap TPU's will scratch phones too. Only cases I have found to never ever scratch a phone are Otterbox has a combo silicone tpu which is very soft and nonabrasive unlike normal tpu. Capdase Aluminum cases they are soft touch silicone on the inside will never ever scratch. And last my old friend Incipio their double layer cases have a soft touch silicone also that will not scratch the phone.

No TPU is not rubbery its more like flexible hard plastic. If the case fits well the TPU material will scratch the phone from taking it off putting it back too much. If anything get in between the phone and the case game over it's almost worse than naked. It's sold as rubber like or soft but I have 20 different TPU cases and all are the same crap. Otterbox and the others I mentioned use silicone which is like a soft rubber. TPU is a cheap is injected crappy material that is why you will find cases as low as $5 or lower.
