This is under the dev part of the forum because I was going to see if someone could unpack the angrybirds.apk and remove the ad's from the game or if someone could post a early release download before the ad's were implemented. I love this game and I don't want to wait for Rovio to produce a non ad version...anyone?

AdFree, one of the best apps for a rooted phone.
That is stealing!!! Ads are there to supports the developers hard work! They deserve to make money and honestly they are even letting you download it for free, so either you wait until there is a paid version or just dont play at all.
You can just put your phone in airplane mode and the ads won't pop up.

You consider that stealing?....not really since they released the game without ads and then made ads for people to click on which I will never do and if you wanted to really think about "stealing" consider yourself a thief since you hacked your phone and are using apps that aren't approved from the manufacturer and running "illegal apps"...so w/e dude..I've been downloading music and apps off sharing websites like rapidshare since I was like 12 dude...they are stealing from us. These things shouldn't cost as much as they do ie: windows os and microsoft office its just ridiculous and everything else in the world and if that's what you think, like I already said you shouldn't root your phone.

You're not furthering any cause by being cheap. Also rooting one's phone is not piracy. Voiding your warranty won't land you in jail.
Didn't mean to cause such an uproar. The only reason I mention adfree is because you can download it straight from the market. And no you are not stealing the game is free. Period. Like someone said putting your phone into airplane mode gives you the same effect. I am not taking anything from the devs if there is no paid version alternate.

Some people say android phones can get viruses and some people say they can't. So anyone know? Should I get a anti virus?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I've never heard of a virus for android. If you want, lookout mobile is free and has AV, plus backup, plus the ability to locate your phone. I use it, but ONLY for the find my phone feature. I used to have it do AV, but I just didnt see the point. Your call.
http://www.appbrain.com/app/lookout-mobile-security/com.lookout
Just search google for:
Android trojan
You will have the reason you seek.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
^ REALLY?!?!
Because all you get is "FIRST sms trojan" from just a few months ago... and who clicks links in text messages from people they don't know? Common sense.
AV will contribute to battery drain without any real benefit.
My phone is backed up with
Titanium because I like a one click restore
App Control because I like to keep multiple versions of my stuff and reload on the fly
Nandroid because I flash my phone as often as I flash my wife
All of which have been backed up to my home Network and if I get hit well I'll just reload. To me the price of having my phone scan every file when it loads or when I add something isn't worth the realestate the app takes up in my phones memory.
Honestly people who spread the fear of Viruses are those that create virus's and market their software to rid them. Bad, Bad tactics and honesly they are no worse than a shady Used Care Salesman or a high pressure Time Share Salesman.
I'm not saying the OP is a Salesman, but those that preach it are.
What I can tell you is have fun updating all in market, it will slow your phone down to a crawl.
Don't blame me, blame my keyboard's autocorrection algorithm.

short answer: no.
What I think is not the virus, but the apps keep sending data to somewhere
I use lookout but often question whether it really does anything besides giving you the ability to locate your phone if it gets stolen. Basically, don't click on messages from people you don't know, stay away from sites that your anti-virus on your home machine warns you about and don't install warez and you should be fine.
No need y'all, waist of space, money and time... If it ever happened hard reset our flash a rom lol...

Set your iPhone to require a four-digit passcode, and it may keep your private information safe from the prying eyes of the taxi driver whose cab you forget it in. But if law enforcement is determined to see the data you’ve stored on your smartphone, those four digits will slow down the process of accessing it by less than two minutes.
Here’s a video posted last week by Micro Systemation, a Stockholm, Sweden-based firm that sells law enforcement and military customers the tools to access the devices of criminal suspects or military detainees and siphon off their personal information.

Also, your phone locks out and requires your google account password to unlock if the passcode has been entered incorrectly 20 times.
Do you reckon they can get past face unlock as well

If they want what's on it, they are going to get it, no matter how much security you think you have! Passcodes, FP reader, etc., are meant to protect from the regular Joe Blow user who rips off or finds your phone. If the military, law enforcement, etc., need to access your info and you want to stop them, you better go for the highest level of encryption you can find, and even then it's only a matter of time before they crack it and get in to your data.
This is why we need encryption. Really need to port truecrypt on Android...

read an article about a lady who had used some encryption software on her computer. it's encryption software that's available to the public.
anyhow, the cops couldn't get into her files without her password nor could their techs. so they tried getting her to divulge her password through legal manners. however, due to the right against self incrimination, this ruling was, of course, appealed and it turned into this whole fiasco regarding individuals' rights.
so the cops can't always get into someone's stuff.

no one said anything about software piracy. Also, one can only illegally use windows IF they use an illegal key. Disabling/enabling windows activation files for development / testing purposes, is not so long as they dont use any product key at all. Plus, there are built in commands to extend the activation period for a set amount of times and can be reset 3 times.

using a product outside of its original intended use, hacked or stolen, is still piracy, you are using something that you have not paid for, whether or not there are exploits to get around that is irrelevant. Dude, it costs next to nothing to buy it so just buy it an feel good that your supporting developers rather than trying to rip them off

Oh, "outside original intended use" is pretty much what hacking is all about. Mind you, that's usually a matter of adding functionality, not of bypassing license restrictions (which is exactly what the OP is asking for, and is, by all intents and purposes, piracy).
Just buy the damn OS for $40 US and use the release version instead of the buggy pre-release. I believe you can even install it over the existing pre-release and keep your files, if backing up is too much trouble. http://www.microsoftstore.com/store...dows_8_Pro?WT.mc_id=MSCOM_HP_nav_BuyWSoftware

Well I never saw that part... Lol. However, I do make a valid point. Microsoft sells software, sure, but it's the keys they actually care about. I actually already disabled the activation utilities in windows 8 pro last night because it came up on a fresh install and crashed my computer. Another valid reason to remove it. I was in middle of watching something and the new activation came up in a metro ui windows and refused to close. Next thing I know, a BSOD came up with a video crash error. Since windows is so cheap, I do plan to buy the pro upgrade, just not right this minute.

while you plan to buy it, what your doing now is still piracy and still frowned apon. the easiest and most effective way to cure activation related crashes is to........actually activate it
Using the already included activation tools that are built in to windows to temporarily disable a buggy subsystem is not piracy. By right, I am given 30 days of free usage on any copy of windows when absent of a product key. yes you have 30 days to eval it, but heres the thing, since you haven't paid for it, and you have access to technet, I assume that's where you got your copy of it? what I fail to understand then is why you haven't activated it with the key you generated from them...
unless you didn't get it from TechNet , you cant download it without buying it first, unless you got it through alternative channels, but then why would you when you have access to TechNet and not use it....

Well, I just simply do not have a premium subscription that would allow me access to said keys. I just get copies of things for free for evaluation only. i will be upgrading my TechNet license to premium before too long once i get some more money. The other reason is for testing. i know windows 8 is great, but i want to run a semi-long term test to make sure that windows can hold up to all that i need and do every day. Hence the 30 day evaluation. On average, my computers have about 280GB of nothing but just programs for development (website, source, etc...) and programs for places such as this for building ROMs, and that takes A LOT of space already.
So basically, i disabled the activation out of pure annoyance, and it doesn't need to be activated when merely evaluating the Install. Second, if that is what happens every time it comes up, then i will definitely figure out a way to keep using the older Consumer Preview that just expired on monday, or settle for windows 7 again. Man I had EVERYTHING set up on it. Good for computer repair, ROM building, building custom Windows OS copies for licensed redistribution, etc... You name it, i had it... lol.

Not really true. If you are tech savvy enough to be sure you don't have anything with malware then best of luck to you. You are well respected on this forum so I'm sure you'll be fine.
I'm technically minded and a software programmer by trade but I couldn't be sure that any app on the market is safe without fully reverse engineering it (which I'm not eating my time attempting) and even then some sneaky developer could push something dodgy out in an update so I'd have to check them too.
Also checking apps doesn't protect you from dodgy messages, emails, etc.
So, I have AVG on all my Android devices just in case. It uses very little resources and has caught a couple of suspect things over the last 6 months since I moved to 'Droid!

It's not about needing to reverse engineer code!
It's more about paying attention to the permissions that the app requests when you go to install it and deciding if they are appropriate.
For example, an app that just makes farting noises almost certainly doesn't need access to your contacts, and services that cost you money.
Some people think that an Android antivirus program will protect them against such threats, and they will if the application has been "blacklisted". However, most of these programs rely on blacklists, so until a particular application is flagged as malware, you are still at risk!
The moral of the story is, nothing beats eternal vigilance!

And neither will these 'antivirus' software help if a developer slips something in, the truth is the best thing you can do it check comments malware is far less a problem on android then Windows, these companys simply try to sell you this software as so many people are used to needing it on windows they think android is the same.
All the apps do is detect known 'black listed' apps which are either not going to be on the market or have bad comments already.
While the main reason for these apps is pointless I will say some of the extra features are quite useful including device tracking etc.
However I would never buy one of these apps for sure

Better that than having all my account details hacked because some dodgy app is snooping.
Responding to the others who replied to me...
If you choose a reputable AV company like AVG or Norton you should be safe.
And, you can't tell much from the permissions. Yes, if the app asks for access to your contacts and phone identity then you could just not install it, but what if it was an alternative dialer that was ad supported? - then it would need internet access and permissions to read your phone details (like Go Dialer) and then you are stuffed.

To use your analogy, your "antivirus" app is like a bouncer on your front door. If a known threat pitches up and wants to come in, the bouncer will stop them, but for new and unknown threats, he'll happily wave them through.
Given that reputable app stores like Google Play or Amazon are quick to remove known threats, all you've done is bought yourself a false sense of security! Good luck with that!

I was just asking about this kind of thing just the other day.
Here is what I found (http://www.av-test.org/en/tests/android/)
The Best stuff at the moment seems to be
avast! Free Mobile Security
F-Secure Mobile Security
Kaspersky Mobile Security (Lite)
. . . .McAfee Mobile Security >_> (Apparently...)
and
Zoner AntiVirus Free
I'm using COMODO on Android (good antivirus, real time scaner and great anti theft options) and on PC i'm using COMODO Internet Security (antivirus+firewall+sandbox). It's free both on Android and PC.
Avast
Avast...without doubt.Run it on my PC too.
I'm using LBE to adjust/monitor permissions for apps. I don't think antivirus programs will do you any good.
Avast is the best in my opinion. Even though its a really good AV and its also free I still dont use one. Don't need one on my mobile.
Even on Windows I never get viruses.
Most malware and viruses come in with dodgy emails and dodgy websites. Avoid those and you'll be fine.
I just use Avast even though I like it more for the Anti-theft feature than the actual anti-virus feature.
