[Q] clear system cache? - Droid X General

my friends Droid X is behaving slowly. Its a VzW stock. Dunno the current version.
Is there a way he can clear the cache with this phone as I can with my Sensation?

Reboot the Droid X, then press power button & both volume keys. Then press both volume keys (up and down) at the exclamation point. Camera button selects while volume buttons navigates. Wiping dalvik cache only, you will not lose anything
There are apps in the market for this. But at some point in time it is best to hard reset and start fresh. Longtime computing has always been plagued by "bit rot".

how to do hardreset??

how to do hardreset??
I was going to say RTFM but amazingly enough this is not mentioned in the FM...
One way is to press and hold the Camera and Comm Manager buttons simultaneously and then press the Reset button (through the small hole at the bottom of the phone.
Another way is Settings -> System -> Clear Storage.
Before you do this, keep in mind that Hard Reset will wipe all your installed applications and data. Make sure that you have a good backup before proceeding!!!!

I tried this numerous times but instead of hard reset the soft one occured...
EDIT---> It does work indeed!!
Actually, abubasim just forgot one miner detail:
It's camera + comm manager + power, hold those 3 and soft reset. A black screen should come up saying: "press send to restore defaults". Press the green phone button to complete hard reset or any other button to cancel.

What's the difference between Soft Reset via. Stylus, via. Power Button and via App.?

Hi, I'm just wondering what the difference is between soft-resetting the device via
1. the little button at the bottom
2. the Power button on the side (and then of course turning the device back on afterwards)
3. a software application
Any ideas?
1) When you press the power button the device is shut down completely or goes in to partial suspend mode depending on the device and whether it is a long and short press. For example on most HTC phone short press will turn off the screen and suspend user programs running on the device but the OS phone and some other stuff will still run so you get reminders, mail and of course incoming calls.
Long press will shut down the phone. It is just like shutting down the computer using Start->Shutdown so its not really a reset.
2) Software applications implement couple of different functions but basically they still tell the OS to restart so it is more or less proper restart.
3) "the little stylus hole" is like the reset button on the computer. It actually momentarily cuts power to the system causing it to reboot. This means you loose any unsaved data.
This option is mainly for cases when the system hangs.
Ah ok, so using the little button at the bottom with the stylus is a no-no except when completely frozen...
But what about the other two options? Does either one result in data loss or similar problems? Or are they both equally "safe"?
Yes the other two options are safe since they both go through the OS and not just the hardware.
One more thing:
If you happened to install a program that starts automatically but can't properly work on your device it could cause it to not come out of soft reset - hang on startup screen.
In such case you will have to preform "hard reset" which will erase all data and restore the phone to the way it was when you took it out of the box.
(Windows and built in apps with factory settings).
This is preformed by holding power + camera + comm manager (all three buttons on the sides) and pressing reset (little hole).
Then you will be asked to press 'send' (green phone button) if you are sure you wish to proceed.
Same function can be accomplished using 'clear storage' icon in Settings->System.
Like I said this is only for drastic cases because it will erase all you data.

G1 Problems

Hello there I have an tmo g1 none rooted and every app except the browers when I try to run it says force close I can't call or anything also the touchscreen is unresponsive how do I fix this factory reset install new rom please help
First of all...What have you tried? Have you tried a wipe?
no im nervous 2 do it because of the touch the android screen will come up and the touch screen is unresponsive but mostly every app i open it make it force close it out
If your screen is not responding to touch you can still Factory Restet your phone using Hardware buttons.
Just follow these steps:
turn off your phone[just do it any way-remove battery & reinsert or use power button ] and restart.
now
1-Press and hold the Home button and the Power button at the same time.
2-Keep holding Home and Power together for 20-25 seconds, even if the "Startup" screen appears.
3-Release the keys when you see a black screen with a warning sign.
4-At the warning sign screen, press the Home and Power buttons again simultaneously, and then let them go.
5-Use the trackball to scroll to wipe data/factory reset.
6-press the trackball in on wipe data/factory reset.
7-When the screen displays "Data wipe complete", roll the trackball to reboot system now.
8-Press the trackball in on reboot system now.
when your phone restarts it will be 'clean' .

Hardware Reset - Motorola Flipside - UNOFFICIAL

Disclaimer:
I am not responsible for any data losses, damages to your phone, the loss of the use of your phone, any monetary loss you incur due to following this procedure, any emotional scarring, etc.
You do this procedure entirely at your own risk!!!!
Before you start:
Backup any data you want/need to save. How you do this will vary depending on the apps you use. This procedure did not delete or damage anything on my SD Card, but it will not hurt to back that up also.
Make sure you have your motoblur sign-in info and google account info handy. Your other accounts should be restored by MotoBlur.
I advise doing this reset where you have access to a WiFi network. That way when the phone reboots you can enable WiFi before entering your Motoblur info. This greatly speeds up syncing your stuff back to your phone.
The Reset Procedure
Power off your phone
Open the hardware keyboard
Hold the X key and then hold the power button
When you see the Moto symbol you can release the power key
Hold the X key until you see a triangle with an exclamation point
Press the key labeled Fn (lower left corner of the keyboard in landscape, upper left in portrait) and the T key at the same time
You will now see a menu on the screen
Use the hardware keyboard cursor keys (lower left in portrait mode) to move the blue highlight to the various selections. You want to highlight "wipe data/factory reset"
Press the return key (to the right of the OK key with the phone in portrait mode) on the hardware keyboard to select the option that is highlighted.
Use the cursor keys to highlight YES from the next menu.
Press the return key to complete the selection
The phone will begin to reset. WAIT until it says it is complete
When it is complete you will see the the menu again, select "Reboot system now" with the cursor keys
Press the return key to reboot the phone.
I did this three times on my phone and it worked for me. I am posting because I found a lot of sites that had the wrong info. I put this together from those sites and from sites with info about other Moto phones.
Gracias
Thank You
Thanks! It worked perfectly and solved my internal memory drain issue.
Glad to get some feedback on this.
I did it four times to document the procedure, so i was pretty sure it would work.

[Q] Can barely hear my speaker on max volume

Hi, all.
After Android 4.2 update I can barely hear any sound coming out of my N7 speaker. I mean, literally - I have to put my ear next to it to hear anything (but there is some sound, just really quiet). With my headphones the sound is fine though.
I tried resetting to factory defaults, but that didn't fix it. I tried using Volume+ for increasing max volume, but that changed almost nothing.
What can I do?
Hi.
Did you try a hard reset, as described on google support ? :
######
If your tablet is on, power it off.
Press and hold Volume Up + Volume Down + Power until the device powers on. You should see an image of an Android lying on its back.
Press Volume Down twice, until the screen says "Recovery mode."
Press Power to restart into "Recovery mode." You should see an image of an Android with a Red triangle after a few minutes.
While holding down Power, tap Volume Up
Use the volume keys to scroll to "wipe data/factory reset" and press Power to select it
Scroll down to "Yes - erase all user data" and press Power to select it
Note: If at any point during the above steps your tablet becomes unresponsive, you can restart it by holding down the power button for several seconds.
#############
If that doesn't work, I (personally) would try to flash a factory image via fastboot.
If you don't know what this means or you don't want to do this, I would contact your reseller/google for a swap of the device, after you tried the hard reset above.

I'm not sure - does that differ from the factory reset that can be done in Settings? If not, I have already done that.
Well, give it a shot?
