Greetings All,
Got my Xoom back from its 4G upgrade last week and I have been noticing some issues with connecting over the 3G/4G network now. I use pocketcloud to connect to computers over RDP and when connected over WiFi networks, it works fine (computers connected to networks other than one I am connected to WiFi on), but when using the 3G or 4G connection on the Xoom, there is a network connection error. I tried it out on my incredible and it works just fine. Also, sometimes I get an error "cannot update" from the engadget app.
Also, the new market would not install some of my apps, like ThinkFree Office for example, I worked around it by using the web interface of Android Market on my computer and it worked fine.
I sent in the Xoom completely reverted back to stock 3.1, I recieved it with 3.2.2 stock. I cleared memory after I got it back and did a factory data reset. Not rooted, and no other modifications have been made.
I'm at a loss as to why some connections are causing the network to flake out.
Regards.
I read on here that some of the app installation issues were due to the possible change in pixel density that took place with the upgrade but that is something you can change back if you root.
I'm noticing the same exact issue and have no idea what is causing it - let's see if together we can figure it out. It's extremely flaky so far.
I got my upgraded Xoom back today and noticed the exact same issue. It wouldn't activate on the setup screen and prompted me to reboot. After reboot, it connected to 4g just fine and showed the 4g icon below.
I then went into the market to install my apps. It installed Thumbkeyboard just fine but when I went to install others, it stopped at 8.03k on the download. Did this for every app i tried.
I turned on wifi, connected to my AP and the downloads worked just fine. Even tried a couple reboots before doing this and it didnt work.
My 4g signal is about 75% so it's strong.
Very strange...
Power off
Remove SIM.
Put SIM back in
Power on
Done. Worked for me.
I take it back, still having all kind of issues.
just got mine back this morning, and it wont connect to anything! no 3g, no 4g, no wifi... nothing. WTF!?!?! restarted, pulled sim, etc...
going to do restore next and see what that does.
Same connection problems
Got my LTE upgrade back.
When I am at work I cannot update Touchdown from inside the firewall (not sure why) so I flip back to Verizon to refresh by shutting down the wifi. When I do, I noticed that the xoom would drop the connection (three bars) and then not reconnect. When I try to turn on the wifi it stays grayed out and neither system will connect until I reboot.
Went around with VZW tech support, they reported that the unit was registering on their network but not connecting. Sent back to Moto for further testing, got the unit back (they reported it was a software fix, no other data) but the unit continues to have the problem.
Stock 3.2.2 xoom with LTE
Any suggestions appreciated....
Has anyone been able to resolve this issue?
Hello, I am still having all kinds of connection issues after I received my device from Motorola. After a reboot the xoom will connect to the Verizon network but If it stays idle for some time, I lose the connection and it will not connect until I reboot the device.
sent it for replacement
I had the same problem. I had to send it back once for 'repair' (no improvement) before Motorola replaced the unit due to an undefined hardware problem. Keep calling or go to a store.
I had something similar when I got my Xoom back. Apparently the geniuses at Verizon never added the SIM to my account. Took multiple calls/emails to get it corrected. Once someone realized it was missing it was corrected in about 10 minutes.

In your case did you have sporadic connection or, without the SIM number, were you completely unable to connect?
BTW, I missed this thread when it was fresh (as I was traveling) but I've had the exact same issues since the LTE upgrade. When it happens, the only way to reconnect is to reboot.
I used to be able to get it to reconnect by switching airplane mode on and off. Sometimes I had to reboot. Friday, even that did not help. I was furious. The next day, the update pushed out to me via wifi. I guess the servers recognized me as a customer again even though I already had a 2 year contract. Some people got the dataplan because they don't use wifi. I love the shortsightedness of the people who come up with this... not.
At least I haven't gotten disconnected since the patch was installed.

Hi All,
Long time follower, first time poster..
I have a very annoying issue with my Nexus 4(4.2.1 and rooted on Tmob).
I use wi-fi connection at home and work and in-between I switch to HSPA or should I say, I was able to..
Lately I have been seeing that If I leave the Wi-Fi area, the phone doesn't switch to cellular data and the connection gets lost.
Switching to airplane mode and back brings it back most of the time but it's really annoying having to do so..
I did find an issue #40514 on the google android code page( code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=40514)
Tried the suggested work arounds like "Auto Network" setting and it didn't seem to help..also have tmob in the APN settings. Still the only thing that works for me is toggling the airplane mode.
This happened to me once on my previous Gnex but with N4, it started to happen all the time.
Does anyone have a better solution to this issue?
Thanks
Oz
even I face the same issue with this new Paranoid 4.1.2 ROM for Atrix 2. I've noticed only one ROM gave me consistent data 24/7, it was from same dev altered his NUMA B2.
But other than that, this has been a repeating problem in all ROMS. Data stays on for hours without issue but suddenly drops and never comes up, other than air plane toggle. Somebody mentioned it is with the network and trust me it is not..
but I'm also eagerly waiting for a solution

Yea, at first I thought it has something to do with rooting but apparently it is happening with non-rooted phones as well..Google needs to address this issue..

Just throwing in my two cents; I starred the threads that I *think* are related on the google tracker. My experience is like this:
I start up Sirius on my phone before leaving home (On wifi)
Driving to the end of my development and then lose WIFI which in turn turns my 3g/4g gray for about a half mile
Picks 3g/4g back up eventually
As I'm driving to work if I end up picking up any open WIFI spots that have a login, once that happens I lose 3g/4g again then have to either wait till that access point is out of range or just turn off my WIFI before data will pick up again
It's pretty annoying; probably going to have to create a tasker profile to turn off wifi when leaving the house and back on when I get home.
Same problem on an LG F6 Optimus
I just got a brand new LG Optimus F6 and I'm noticing this same issue. The phone is stock and runs 4.1.2
Anyone found a solution?
the issue continue in n4 with 4.4?
Hi Guys,
I recently switched from the Nexus S forums to the Nexus 4 forums
I'm loving my N4 so far
Perhaps too much, because I've been ignoring a problem that I've been facing. My phone drops the mobile network for a few seconds, once in a while.
I was able to find a way to replicate it. I think this happens when the N4 tries to switch on data on 3g or H.
To replicate this,
1) I installed the Network Signal Info app(can't post link here )
2) Next I tried to switch off wifi. As soon as the wifi is disconnected, the phone tries to connect to mobile data network and my phone disconnects completely for a few seconds. See attached screenshot for logs.
Anyone else facing the same issue?
Thanks,
Spaccount
Note that I can't replicate the issue every time. However it does occur very frequently if you first keep it on Wi-Fi for at least 10 minutes.
Thanks.

Note that you need to be on wifi for alteast 10-15 mins before this works..
I tried loading the browser to show the problem(no network).. but I also get an error if I try calling or texting..
Can someone please try to replicate?
I'd like to know if this is an isolated hardware issue. I just finished 2 weeks on my phone.. Hopefully I can get it replaced
How long is mobile data disconnected? You do know that if you are on wifi mobile data is disconnected on all phones, it reconnects when you either turn off wifi or go out of range of the wifi network. It will take a few moments for it to reconnect to mobile data and vice versa, its not an instantaneous reconnect, it can take 10 seconds or a minute or two.

you are correct!
However, during this time period(as in the video), I'm completely cut off. I cannot even send a txt or make a call.
I didn't demo this because I wanted to keep my call list out of the video.

Okay I see what your talking about now, I had removed Network Signal Info off my phone and just reinstalled it. And no my phone doesn't totally drop signal, it drops but not by much when it switches from wifi to mobile data. Are you on stock or custom ROM or Kernel. Its like your radio is turning completely off during the switch to and from wifi, If your on a custom kernel I would suspect it to be the problem. If not then it might be a hardware issue.

Happens on my iphone 5 on t-mobile when is goes from edge to 3g or 3g to edge, I think it's cause of the phone switching the bands

Interesting! I'm on t-mobile as well.
I just did a factory reset(the google lady told me to) and I still have the problem.
Is there anyway that you can get hold of a Nexus 4?
Also where are you based out of? I'm in Ohio. Not sure if that matters?

So maybe its a carrier issue, I'm on ST AT&T. You on T-Mobile by chance? I had signal issues when I had them and dropped them in 2 weeks. Could only get a weak signal in my living room and then would get no network detected in my bathroom 10 feet away.
Okay not sure what caused this but I had my phone off for about 20 minutes and when I turned it back on to retest it I got no signal, then turned off wifi and signal came back, then turned off wifi and signal remained the same. Not sure if this effects my ability to send/receive voice or text. Its probably just the phone saving battery by turning off the cell radio.

However the network is OK around here. It would be great if someone on t-mobile and N4 can try to replicate this.
I had this issue with my previous defective device. If gps was on the mobile connection would crash. My new device does not have this problem.

I had this exact same issue when I first received my Nexus 4. I thought it may had been a faulty sim card, so I replaced that, twice, same result. I went ahead and formated the phone back to stock, same result. Checked and made sure APN settings were correct, same result. Contacted T-Mobile, they reset my phones service and the data in my area, same result. After both I and T-Mobile ran out of ideas I decided to contact Google for a replacement. Turns out it was a faulty antenna and my new device has been working fine since.

I just called google and requested a replacement.
The lady said I should get an email in 2 days. I'm on day 13, so I'm cutting it close
Also wanted to add that I ran the same test(as in the video) while on a phone call. It dropped the call and locked me out of the network for 10 seconds just like in the video.
I logged to XDA to report this issue it so annoying and the biggest proplem that my N4 seems to stuck on 3G and won't open internet untill it connects to H
it also happens when connected to E as I dont have 3G coverage over there and it also drop many times
mine seems to cut the radio off for seconds

Based on the following link, this might be a software issue. I know the issue described in the link is not exactly what I experienced, but is similar in some ways:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=40514
It's supposedly fixed in 4.2.2
Will let you know if I get the update before I RMA(don't want to force the update).

Similar problem on Galaxy Nexus
Hi all,
first of all, I know that there's a different forum for the Galaxy Nexus, but since I have a similar problem as discussed here I thought maybe someone can help...
I also have random disconnects from my mobile network, but since I almost never use WLAN it might not be the exact same problem as discussed here, right?
I'm running cm-10.1-20130416-EXPERIMENTAL-maguro-gerrit-35930.zip, and - as I said - my phone randomly disconnects (shows the "no signal" sign in the status bar) and relatively quickly connects back to the mobile network and everything works like normal. The whole reconnection process takes about 5s or so, I don't have to re-enter the PIN or something...
Any ideas how I could figure out what the reason might be?
Just received my LG G2 White brand new from T-Mobile about 2 hours ago. After many attempts to troubleshoot the issue it all failed. The problem is Wifi will connect to router and even work but after 30 seconds the connection goes down. The actual Wifi signal shows connected but no internet it gets stock. We tried resetting the phone and toggling with different features but still it did the same thing. T-Mobile is the worst they were trying to have me ship the phone back and leave me phone less for days. I complained and they are sending another one overnight but have charged me for the phone on my account. Mind you I've had months of bad service, after all I think I got a defective phone. I've read some other people having the same issue with other carriers. If I get another one with the same issue I'm jumping boat. If anyone knows of a work around let me know. I tried 2 different routers same issues connects then it randomly disconnects and stops downloading or transferring data.
Reset Phone - didn't work
Turned off mobile data - didn't work
Turned off wifi sleep - didn't work
Is it an N router? You could try putting it in G mode just for better compatibility and see if that does anything.
Tried on G same thing, New device should work on N by the way seems like is a hardware issue
Try a public router like Starbucks or something
Just did worked for 2 minutes and again it stops. This is either a software glitch or hardware issue, very random
This is the big thing I miss on my Nexus. I was thinking if WiFi calling worked well on the G2 I may actually go back to a Tmo device.
Any reports of whether MMS is working with the WiFi calling?

Well Ive found out that the phone is having issues connecting to 5ghz network or not updated routers. I think the phone is hella fast, camera is quite good but this phone doesn't live up too the hype. Specially if in my business were all gadgets, macs, pc's connect with no issue Im not going to reset router settings just cause this phone doesn't like it. Jumping ship, it was quite an awfall experience. by the way LG is clueless, dont even bother calling them..
I've had wifi issues like that on my Vz G2. 2.4 and 5ghz channels. None of my other devices have the issue. Forcing a new channel on the router resolves the issue for awhile, but it's like the radio is very sensitive to channel interference or something.
I have the same problem. It seems like it only works if you set your router to 802.11g only
My WiFi calling, SMS, MMS, and general WiFi connectivity on my T-Mobile G2 works fine. However the call quality over WiFi sucks.
What sucks is I really really like this phone. I'm conflicted on if I should return or keep. I go back and forth hourly.
Just for comparison sake I am using an Asus RT56N router and my G2 is connected to N network with Comcast but I frequently use G at a friends house using Century Link. It connects just fine on that POS network.
So I don't know what's going on here.

Well I just got a Galaxy S4 and I must admit the G2 has by far the better looking screen, camera and speed. I actually think Im going to send the S4 back and get the G2 again hoping that the one I got was just defective. Im so conflicted cause I really liked the G2 but the wifi issue is a deal breaker. Not sure what to do!
Maybe it was just a defective unit. I had to return my first one and I may have to return this one too. I keep noticing weird touch screen issues now. The first one didn't have touch issues but had speaker issues. This one looks like it may or may not have touch screen issues.
I took off the Zagg Screen protector to see if that was the cause. We will see.
My issues are a far less version of what's happening in this video.

Problems with Tomato
Is anyone having issues with a non-dlink router? I have an Asus RT-N16 set up with Tomato firmware and have very similar issues as well. Everything on the internet suggests upgrading my dlink firmware... which obviously doesn't help me . Other people have suggested trying "G only" on the router, which sucks and is pretty heavy handed. Will report back if it works though...

I have used my old NETGEAR wndr3300 (setup for 2.4 & 5Ghz) and my phone connected to either flawlessly. Then I purchased a DLink DIR-855 Xtreme and the problems started. Tried to update firmware, and the router would constantly reboot every few minutes when my G2 would connect to either frequency. Now I am using a WD MyNet 900, and no problems as of yet.

new g2 kills wifi
all of the symptoms mentioned are happening to me too but im on ee (UK version of T mobile). the network drops out on after a short time of network connection, i have spent 45 mins on Saturday talking to the (well not really talking more like listening to hold music) tech dept about internet connectivity problems and even convinced them that it was not the internet that was hiding but the router that was not performing so they sent me a new one; i eagerly swapped it over tonight and even factory reset the phone like lg have suggested but guess what...........
i have sent lg a snotty response as this issue has now cost me a bout 6 hours of my life trying to work wtf is going on and the on the phone to tech call centers and the inevitable net trawling for answers plus the effin and jeffin about after a complete factory reset.
it seams we are not unique in this and samsung have had this as an issue for quite a bit and best guesses are that it is a o/s issue with jelly bean 4.2 but this is not what google would have you believe and do not acknowledge this as an issue. im no expert just someone who wants the effing thing to work and have someone who has the power and capability to sort this out to do so without having to convince some faceless organisation that the problem should not be mine cos i dont get paid to sort out the crap.
Every once in a while I go to use the phone and my WiFi and Phone signal will have exclamation points beside them. I have to disconnect and reconnect on the WiFi to fix the issue. Is anyone else having this issue?
I only see the exclamation point after boot or when I turn on WiFi: the antenna is in the process of connecting to the network / wireless router. Otherwise, I don't see the ! again.
I had it this morning. Turned off Wifi, and the cell exclamation point went away.

Same here. My phone was sitting beside me and had been getting calls and text messages all day long. I picked it up to look for something on Google Play and it would not connect. I was getting it on my cell signal but that was before I turned on Advanced calling. I was out of town for a conference and would see it while I was on the phone and email was trying to sync. Things that make you go hmmmm.
This happened to me tonight for about an hour. I tried everything but eventually it came back on it's own but only on 3g.

The exclamation point means that the WiFi or cellular signal aren't getting connectivity. The reason that turning signals on/off works is because you force them to reconnect.
You're getting these indicators because for some reason, your WiFi and cell signal are dropping out. If you were at a conference for a few days, then it makes sense you would see that on WiFi (since conference centers notoriously have horrible WiFi; especially when you have a few hundred people all trying to use the WiFi at once). If you saw it on your cell signal, then for whatever reason the cell connectivity dropped out for a moment.
This also happens on other phones. Have you ever tried to use internet connectivity on another phone, only to have it not work? You see full signal strength; you see the data indicator look like it's trying to push / receive data; but for whatever reason, you're not getting data for the moment. This isn't new to the Moto X Pure. It happens on other phones as well. The only difference is that the Moto X Pure tells you its happening.
Honestly, I really don't remember it happening on my previous phones. I'm not saying it did not happen but if it did it was not on a regular basis like here. My business is in my home. I have a wireless router downstairs and upstairs. It has already happened twice today.
I regularly get connection timeouts when browsing the play store, surfing the web, and using xda. On both WiFi and cellular data. I'm assuming its a software issue.
I believe that the cell bars with an exclamation point means that you have voice but no data connectivity. That's the way it has tested out for me over the years on various Android phones. So, you can make and receive calls, but not data.
I think, but am not sure, that the exclamation point with the WiFi icon means that the OS connected to the WiFi access point but not the Internet. That would indicate a handshake issue between the phone and the access point/router, maybe resulting in the phone not receiving an IP address or something. Though I've only seen this happen once or twice over many years, disconnecting and reconnecting the WiFi (turning it off then on on the phone) usually clears the problem.
Just sent mine back as my signal issues really hindered use of phone. Was hoping for ROM before return deadline to see if it would fix it. But that has been slower than I thought. Tried everything in the book to fix this issue. Doesn't matter if I'm in excellent coverage or not. Screen off phone goes 1x then screen on stays until I play around with settings or hidden menu. This is on Verizon. Tried new sims. Wonder if Verizon is doing something to limit these unlocked phones.

That was a given. New nano sim not trimmed down micro. At first I had trimmed my g2 micro sim which I thought was reason for issues at first. I have a friend at local Verizon store who is more knowledgeable than usual CS agents. Still couldn't get anything to stick. Hidden menu setting for network always switches back to lte ,gsm CDMA auto prl. Phone was purchased through amazon. Hope its just hardware related. Gonna go to best buy and pick one up there. Easier to deal with them.

Best of luck!

Liked the phone so much. I decided to reorder. Will have today. Here's to hoping it fixes my issue. Lots of signal issues with the custom ROMs right now. Especially Verizon users. Hope it gets ironed out soon. This really makes me think Verizon is doing something even though its not a carrier phone.
It's not necessarily a phone issue. My wife's Moto X 2013 and my Moto X 2015 had this come up on both phones at the same time, exclamation mark by both wifi and lte signal icons. Rebooting phone didn't help. Calling still worked, data did not. I went in and rebooted my router, and the exclamation marks went away on both phones.
I gotta try that.My fiance's X 2013 always gets it in the apartment.Maybe I should try to get her a new sim as well?

I had this happen to me today. I had installed an app that was burning through my cell data, used 90% and I have two weeks left on my billing cycle. I turned of cell data because even with just routine phone useage I did not see the 10% lasting. However after doing this I could not connect to wifi. I have full strength signal and it says it is connected but there is an exclamation mark by the wifi meter and nothing will connect to the internet. I turned cell data back on, and it connects, but wifi will not. I found that by running my vpn it connects and now I get data via wifi through the vpn. If I shut the vpn off, no more wifi data. WTF??? I've researched and this seems to be a lollipop issue on several different phones. I've tried every solution I could, (except for those that require root). Has no one found a solution for this? Motorola?
