I haven't used it yet but DoubleTwist is supposed to be the answer to iTunes syncing on Android.

Buy iSyncr, works well I use it.
Plus it syncs over wifi too.

I just wish there was a free trial that wasn't so limiting.

doubletwist doesnt work with libraries over a few hundred mp3's, it becomes too laggy to use, I dont know what the point of it is
I use AirDroid, I just open iTunes and drag and drop the song into the AirDroid window. It is super easy and fast to connect since it uses a barcode scanner to connect wirelessly over LAN. Its not as easy as iTunes since you still have to navigate to directories but for Android its the best.

I think the $4 is well worth it. For me syncing works flawlessly. It also syncs play counts and works with many music players:good:

the best way to sync your music.

mediamonkey + rsync.
mediamonkey is by far the best and most robust batch id3 editor, converter, re-organizer, etc i've used.
unfortunately the sync kinda sucks with my N1. it has limited features (no ability to remove files from the N1 if you remove them from your library or move the folders around, etc)
enter: rsync (or grsync if you want a gui or are on windows)
usually what I do is on getting new music i'll add the music to mediamonkey (not the library just yet), then use the converter to lower the bitrate to 128kbps (i have a ton of music and don't mind sacrificing the barely noticeable quality difference for more space) and normalize the volume and re-organize them into /library/artist/album/track-title.mp3
then i'll rsync /android/Music with /library and voila.
note: i hated doubletwist. i did not have itunes and doubletwist wouldn't edit any of my mp3 tags. plus it was laggy and heavy.
sidebar: people hate on the android music player. its fantastic search function (partial searches ftw! i can search for "op orld" and it'll find "drop the world".) is indispensable.
I just dump everything into a folder on my SD card while it is mounted to my computer

copy all works fine, but takes a long time if you have a large sdcard and library. unless you copy to the same folder and select to not overwrite existing files, but then you don't get updates that you make on your desktop and this could lead to duplicate files, etc.
rsync does incremental updates (only sends what's been changed) and has an option to delete files from the destination folder if they're not present in the source folder.
both Salling and DoubleTwist require an iTunes library, don't they? DoubleTwist was absolutely terrible for managing my library when i tried it. it read some 2,500 mp3s and read the metadata for maybe 20% of them, and left the others as just the filenames. that was shocking to me. Salling does require iTunes, and i dislike itunes a good bit.
you onlyneed itunes to convert files to a usable format. ie, AVI to MP4 etc
mediamonkey for me too, its great for fixing up tags and getting cover art.
There are some ipods in our house, mediamonkey syncs those too as well as various other devices.

Actually, Banshee is available for Linux, Windows and OS X. The version released yesterday is supposed to include direct support for the Nexus One. Although when they advertised G1 support, it actually didn't work. They admitted that it didn't work when pressed and continued to advertise G1 support. It's not a terribly great player, but if I can drag and drop to my Nexus One AND transfer playlists appropriately, then I'll use it for that, but it doesn't really work too well for library management.
What Software and App work together? on Linux?
Doubletwist (Music,Videos,Podcasts,Playlists) does the job perfectly on windows and mac... but what about linux?
Banshee seems really good same as doubletwist except it puts everything into one folder it looks like. Music and Podcasts mix together with any app on my android device. Doubletwist had its own app which made it work correctly putting each media class into its own folder on the android device. Music=music podcasts=podcasts I used it all the time. Now I run only linux and would like something just as good.
App on LINUX laptop and App on device working together! Anyone have ideas? or at least a way to get banshee to put music in a specific folder on my android device and podcasts in another that I decide. If so I can just continue to use doubletwist app on android.
Please anyone with a solution?
I really thought you could get doubletwist on Linux.
I've been using rythmbox on linux. Its kind of a pain to sync playlists, and it took me forever to figure it out, but I hate banshee and I couldnt find anything else that works.

drewzee does rythmbox have an android app? like doubletwist? so they talk pc to android.
winamp is nice, but the wireless sync needs to be fixed so it can directly send to sd card into a certain folder. Having 100s of artist folders on the main directory is annoying
I wish we could get the Zune software to work with android. :/
Previously, I was running rsync over ssh with Tasker to sync my music (and backup my SD) with my server
Since the command can sometimes take a while to execute (a new nand or several new albums etc) and there isnt any verbose output using Tasker, I just created a script that i can easily execute from BTEP and my music and other data are synced. this works for me

Im not sure what you mean because I've never used doubletwist, but the nexus will show up in the side pane of rhythmbox. You can right click, and then decide which playlists you want to sync etc...
The reason why I said it was a pain figuring out, is because the "My Top Rated" playlist would not update on my phone when I added new songs to it. I found out after tinkering that in order for that specific playlist to update, I had to delete the .pls file from the sd card before syncing it.

What are you guys using to Sync Music?

Coming from an iPhone I'm looking for something to repalce iTunes. A wireless sync program would be perfect, but wired will work. It also be nice if it could sync with a backup program to make full system backups like the iPhones does.

double twist is free and it works great BUT it doesn't do over the air and I don't know of a service that does this for free. the next best thing (actually better than double twist) is something called missing sync.
Froyo will include ota music as part of the Simplify Media team.
Doubletwist is a great program and I would recommend it to anyone. However, if you don't mind spending a few bucks you can get The Missing Sync which will sync your music right from iTunes through it's own worm whole.
I dont mind getting rid of Itunes...always was a laggy pos.
TuneSync. It's awesome if you're an iTunes user and don't want to re-home your library. It's a background app that will sync playlists over Wifi. Has OSX and Windows versions.
I'm really happy with it. Free version is limited to 20 songs per playlist. I bought the full for like $4.
It will also reverse sync any mp3's bought from the Amazon store on the handset. That's a pretty nice feature.
EDIT: Missing Sync looks cool, but it's $40. Syncs a lot more than music, but if you just want to sync music, TuneSync is your app at 10% of the price.
doubletwist always freezes on me. I use Songbird to sync.
I use isyncr straight from iTunes

drag and drop doesn't work for you?
I haven't bothered to sync a bunch of music, I am mostly using Last.FM android app, but I recommend mediamonkey, just set it up as generic usb device
tho if you have lossless files, on the fly conversion requires the non-free gold version.

Best Program For N1 Media Syncing

To save everyone all the reading below here is the bottom line up front:
In my opinion Sony's Media Go is the best for the job (use at your own risk).
The good:
-surprisingly it syncs with my N1
-syncs music, pictures & video
-places a check mark beside all media in your library that is on your N1 card
-option to transcode if device needs
-optimizes pictures for device
-did not waste my time and delete my existing media and re-sync
-plays media library quite well
The bad:
-no option for auto syncing media (does show check mark to track what is manually synced as I mentioned).
-had to spend some time re-tagging about 100 videos
Basically it gives two options when you install; sync with Ericsson phone or PSP. I chose PSP as I was unsure if those phones have media card support and I know the PSP does. I'm still not sure if this will affect transcoding, namely if it thinks it needs to transcode for PSP or if Media Go is aware that it's an N1 and knows what type of files it supports. Hopefully it does know it's an N1 but if not it should only affect video. I have already synced two h264, .mp4 TV shows and it was rather quick so I don't think any transcoding happened. They are not PSP compatible because I watch them on my Xbox 360. I tried to install one movie but it was taking too long so I stopped it. It seems to me that most managers/players take a while to sync movies anyway because of their size, I was just being impatient with the movie sync. Also, I am unsure if it will sync movies purchased from the store as I am in Japan and the video purchase is blocked.
If you are like me you would like one program to sync music, pictures & videos to your N1 storage card. I've tried the majority of them, WMP; either you sync all items in library or one at a time and you have no visual for what in your library is already on the card with the second choice. If you sync all at once all videos in your library will try to sync. Realplayer; no option for pictures that I could find anyway. iTunes; "what you talkin' 'bout Willis". Doubletwist; if I wanted to use iTunes I would use iTunes. JR Media Player; way to involved but still a good program.
If you know of a better media manager program to sync all media with Nexus One please share your replies.
The best program for media syncing is a batch script.

..In my opinion Doubletwist is an excellent solution for the N1 too. Writing it off simply because is mimics iTunes without acknowledging any of its features is a bit shallow isnt it? I can fully appreciate peoples dislike for iTunes interface and a clone like DoubleTwist. But one should at least acknowledge what Doubletwist can do. There is also a quite acceptable Doubletwist media player to run on your N1 too.
I think DoubleTwist is a perfectly adequate solution for those of us who are not so technical minded. Anyone who just wants a simple solution that works very well. As far as I can tell it does everything you say the Sony app will do.

YES, I would say so.
Actually it was your single sentence appraisal of Doubletwist that I was describing as shallow, not you. A ten page review of an application could be described as In Depth. Whereas the single sentence "Doubletwist; if I wanted to use iTunes I would use iTunes." can be described as a shallow review. I felt you wrote it off a little cheaply thats all. For what its worth, I am sure the developers would too

Can anyone recommended a sync app for Mac?

Can anyone recommend a sync app for syncing iTunes and iPhoto? Must work on a mac, and preferably over wi-fi. I've been looking at The Missing Sync, but its a bit pricey.
I've been using DoubleTwist, which does (at least to some extent) work with an existing iTunes library. It feels like (and is) a bit of a hack, but it does get the job done.
I tried double twist a while ago, and disliked it almost immediately. The interface on the mac side was unintuitive and clunky. It saw my library, but none of my play lists, and was generally a pain from the get go.
Why can't our phones just lie to itunes and tell it it is an ipod, and let it sync like one? Perhaps even a player that would let us adjust ratings, tracked party counts and such.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
They can't lie because Steve Jobs has a vested self interest in making sure that doesn't happen. Buying into iTunes is buying into an ecosystem built around Apple's products. This behavior is on purpose.
Having said that it's not too terribly hard to convert playlists and manually sync music collections. And at least iTunes is easier to cope with than Microsloth's Zune Sync.
I've been doing it manually ever since I got my g1. Tired off it. Wasn't to automate it now. That missing sync app seems like almost exactly what I want, but its a bit expensive for what it does. And it doesn't have great reviews on the market.

DoubleTwist does have a playlist sync option, which (for some reason) isn't enabled by default. Even once you turn it on, it seems as if you have to restart the app to get playlist updates to show up. I don't know how long this feature has been there.
I'm not going to say DT is a perfect solution, as it's clearly got plenty of issues. To date though it's the best one I've found for anybody already invested in the iTunes ecosystem.
I use tunesync lite on iMac. It works with itunes flawlessly and syncs over wifi. Hope there is something like that for syncing photo but couldn't find one yet.

I use TuneSync. It works great, and it does it all over the wireless network, no cables required. Try the Lite version first. The only limitation is that you can't sync more than 20 songs per playlist. Heck you might not even care about the limit...
You install the app from the Market and a "server" app on the Mac. Works perfect.

Music syncing software?

I agree, if you are plugging the phone in, just treat it as a drive and drag and drop. Syncing with iTunes is a big pain and a waste if you don't use song counts or any of that nonsense. If you already have your music organized by artist and album, then copy/paste is a lot faster.

Exactly. Especially since Android runs a media scanner whenever you unplug, so all your Music apps like stock or Poweramp will see the changes instantly. And you can sort by folder so this is a great solution.
Reviving the topic, to see if anyone has a suggestion for PC software to sync music with the Galaxy S4.
I would prefer to have a program to handle this, so I don't have to manually build the folder structure (artist\album\file.mp3) and also, so I don't have to remember which new files I've gotten that need to be uploaded. Right now I'm using Windows Media Player, it worked reasonably well with my Xperia Ion, but with the Galaxy I have to stop and restart the sync and then stop it again, since it never reaches 100% even though all the mp3 files were uploaded. Also, it is not really syncing, if I change anything in already uploaded files, like tag or artwork, the changes don't go through, even if I manually delete the old file from my phone card.
I've tried Winamp, it doesn't recognize the SD card and wants to upload the files to the phone internal memory. Both Kies and Songbird never really connect to the device, they stay trying to connect for a long time. And Doubletwist Desktop does not update the music library when some files are added, deleted or changed.
SPOTIFY... 8 bucks a month for an unbelievable amount of music. The offline mode makes tracks accessible without and data and you can share music with your friends. You can also check out what they are jamming to and discover new music. I don't even know what people use iTunes anymore. Spotify also has a desktop interface so you can enjoy your music at the office on the Pc or Mac

Thanks for the info. I'm not at all interested in all the "social" stuff, I just need an efficient way to sync my PC music library with my phone. I considered Google Music at some point, since it was offering 20,000 songs (double my library) for free, that you need to upload. Problem is that there is no easy way to tell the program to store it in a specific folder in the SD card. Also, I don't think you can just make the whole library offline, you have to do it track by track, or maybe album by album. How is Spotify in these two issues? Although, quite frankly, for almost $100 a year I'll probably stick with WMP for free.
