According to their FB page, the N4 is compatible with them(obviously). I put my IMEI(got the phone today) in to get a sim from them and got a message saying that my IMEI isn't compatible? What gives? Anyone else having this problem?

I just called their support and they said that the Nexus 4 is not currently compatible. They have not created a working sim card for it. The webpage listing compatible phones is http://solavei-selfcare.wds.co/
Odd, since Solvei uses T-Mobile's network, and I'm using my Nexus 4 with a T-Mobile prepaid plan now. I activated the phone yesterday with the IMEI from the Nexus 4 and had no issues.
From what I've read, mobile providers have to add IMEI's into their database for each model phone. Since the N4 is so new and Solavei is a smaller operation this probably hasn't happened quite yet.
There must be SOME way to contact them.

I got in contact with one of their independent reps through their facebook page. He told me that although the company hasn't updated their log of IMEI #s to reflect the new Nexus 4 phones the nexus 4 will work on their tmobile network just like any other GSM phone, especially since the last generation nexus is compatible. The IMEI check on their website is only so that they can ship you the correct size sim card (It is a micro-sim in the case of the Nexus 4). Here are the steps I took:
1. To begin signup of your Nexus 4 use this link.
2. Enter your zip to confirm coverage
3. [Important] Use the following IMEI # to get past the first step: 353022055115650 . This IMEI ensures you get the micro-sim card instead of a full-size sim.
4. Solavei asks if you want to port a phone # or have them choose a phone # for you.
5. Solavei asks for the usual personal information
6. Solavei mentions that it will be shipping you a "sim" but does not go into detail whether it is a micro-sim or not. Don't worry. The IMEI # you used earlier ensures it is a micro-sim.
7. Finish the process and a micro-sim card will be shipped out to you within 2 business days
Hope that helps.
Hey guys, thanks for the information. I plan on getting the Nexus 4 and using Solavei. Also if you sign up before the end of November, you get the first month free and the sim card free too. Most likely people won't get the Nexus 4 before the end of the month. Like me for example.

Just saying. The $30 T-Mobile plan is a better bet, IMO.

Mine works on Solavei. I called up ahead of time telling them that it was a microSD card and that I wanted to be able to activate my phone when it arrived. They used a spare IMEI for me, and today I activated my phone. It has been brilliant so far. Fast speeds, and I actually get signal at my parents' house (rural Alabama).

I totally disagree. I had the $30 plan up until yesterday when I activated my Solavei sim. Sure its $30, but the 100 minutes wasn't nearly enough for me. I tried groove IP, but call quality was too bothersome. Now I'm paying $49 per month and I get unlimited voice, text, and full HSPA+ speeds(4gb which is more than enough for me). $19 is not that much more. In comparison, you have to pay $70 to get that from Tmo's prepaid.
Plus, Tmo's prepaid support is absolute garbage. Rarely did I ever reach someone that spoke decent enough English. Almost every rep was rude. I had to call Solavei twice for help in setting up my service. The reps were very polite and helpful.
I just used an iPhone 4s imei to get a micro Sim sent to me and it is working just fine. Had to edit my APN to get MMS working.

I've read on a few different forums that people are using IMEIs from other phones that use micro SIM cards to sign up for Solavei and that these people are not reporting any problems with the SIM. I also see on the Nexus 4 Facebook page that Nexus 4 is compatible with their network, but that people are having problems signing up for Solavei accounts using the Nexus 4 IMEI.
So, I called Solavei to ask whether enrolling with a non-Nexus 4 IMEI - just to get the micro SIM - would be a problem. The representative I talked to said that she doesn't recommend doing that. She claimed that using an IMEI that doesn't match your phone may lead to problems down the line. She did not elaborate on what these problems may or may not be, but it has made me hesitate in signing up for Solavei.
I am not interested in referrals or in making money from Solavei. I did some searches on XDA, Google and some other websites but could not find the answer to my question anywhere. What I want to know is whether I will potentially have problems in the future if I sign up for a Solavei micro SIM for my Nexus 4 (set to arrive in the next couple of days) using an IMEI that is not specific to my Nexus 4. And if yes, what could some of those problems be?
Get your facts straight about ponzi schemes.
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ponzi_scheme#section_2
12 enrolled members x $49 = $588
12 enrolled members = 4 trios. Payout to enrollee =$80.
Solavei earns $508.
Ponzi scheme fails when schemer is paying out more than what is coming in. This will never happen with Solavei's model.
Network marketing is legitimate whether you favor it or not.
Besides, do you honestly think that big corporations like tmobile, HTC, and zte would involve their companies with ponzi schemes? I'm sure their legal teams investigated the start up company before agreeing to affiliate themselves.
I have a Solavei account and choose not to sponsor anyone by the way, I only signed up for the service only because I still think it's the best value. Not interested in the headache of sponsoring, but I think it's unfair to label company incorrectly just because you dislike network marketing

I'm in miami areas. Kendall, miami beach, hialeah to downtown. Simple mobile aka tmo mvno data throttling sucked, building penetration and spotty signals everywhere. But that was 8-9 months ago. You've had good results? At friend's house in hialeah if i would turn around I'd lose signal

When trying to set up an account I used my wife's iPhone imei in order to get the right sim. But then a pop up said to make sure that it is the correct imei of the phone that will be used to access their network. That got me thinking about provisioning access to towers based on imei getting disconnected or access denied because it doesn't match. This could potentially become an issue if towers are update or don't update and deny your device access to some towers, making network access spottier...
Anyone get a straight answer or any status as to when we can register using our nexus 4?
Meanwhile I've ordered a Tmobile sim kit and will activate on the $30 plan to check signal penetration in my area.
I think Straight Talk T-Mobile is the better deal ..been reported on Howardforums that the usual "cap" before throttle is 5-10GB.
But I had to cancel T-Mobile service..their signal inside my house and basement was unacceptable half the time my N4 sat with no signal, so..switched back to ST ATT.

Their throttle policy is just like on their other tmobile mvno, simple mobile. Even tho att has great signal where ever I am, straight talk's or att's throttle is too random for me. I'd like att but can't afford it.
On topic: I spoke with a solavei rep to ask about what problems if any down the line using a dummy imei would cause. She said there was no quarrantee that the nexus would work. And there was a 50 50 chance there could be issues.... blah blah blah, why?
I asked her if I registered another imei now to activate my account and later down the line they added the nexus 4 to their compatible list, would I have to call in and have them change out my old imei to my new device's imei? She replied no just change out your sim to your new device and it should work...
So bottom line is there shouldn't be an issue. YMMV

I had the same problems getting a Solavei micro sim for my Nexus 5 as I did last year with my N4 due to the "incompatible" message. However, the IMEI # check during Solavei's enrollment process is only for the purposes of sending you the right sized sim card and unfortunately the phone is so new that Solavei hasn't updated their list of IMEI #s on the back end. However, The Nexus 5 (and N4) IS fully compatible and I've been using my Nexus 5 with no problems and great speeds.
The following instructions should help you bypass the incompatibility message to order your Nexus 5 micro sim card on Solavei.

Hello
I'd like to have a thread dedicated to getting our Notes up and running optimally on At&t.
First off, has anyone been able to get data speeds consistant with their Hspa+ network...(average 2-3kbps...to be conservative!)?
If so can you tell what plan your on, and perhaps your Apn settings, and.anything else you did to get those speeds.
Really appreciated!
Are you having problems with yours? I had a SGS2 on ATT and there were no issues with data speed, other than ATT's crappy backhaul speeds.
Mine is 100% functional on media net data plan. Consistent 4.5mbps down 1.06mbps up in good signal H+
Used the Cingular 410 APN that gets posted everytime this comes up.
Location in sidebar.
So that's a contract post paid plan right?

I had an SGS2 on the gophone $50 unlimited a while back and got OK speeds (avg 1500/2000).
So I decided to do the same with the Note...but speeds are incredibly inconsistant...often averaging 400kbps. I have a 4G sim.
I use the 410 apn also.
Don't get it.

You have to get one of their refurb Nokia E71s and it comes with a sim card, you can read all about it on howardforum under the straight talk section.
I only started using it last night but when I did a speed test I am getting consistently over 2MBPS but real world performance seems even more then that so I am happy.

So i'm currently an AT&t customer (unlimited data) and will be grandfathered into the new contract.
I have just bought my galaxy note and will be arriving monday.
I'm planning renew my contract to get the iphone 4s and sell it on e-bay. I need to know how to do this right.
1) Get the iphone, remove sim card and sell the phone on ebay?
2) When i put the iphone sim into my Galaxy note, will At&t need to activate the sim or something ?
or Should i activate the sim on the iphone before selling ?
Please advise !

Yes sir. I reccomend you get the Nexus 4 from the play store, get the t-mobile sim card from online.
Go to the google search monthly 4g prepaid plain. XDA forums doesn't let me link the site -.-. Sorry.
Scroll down to the 30$ plan, 100 minute, unlimited text, 5GB DATA up to 4G after that it's capped down and it's unlimited. I use that.
They don't offer it in stores, make sure you buy the sim and activate it online.
- Zam
I'm using that plan right now on my GNex, speeds are pretty OK, I usually get about 5-6 Mb/s if I have decent coverage.
I think you can get the sim card and plan in Walmart too.
Is it possible to roam on straight talk or tmobile prepaid plans? I live in an area with poor cell coverage

They include roaming, 4GB of data, unlimited calls and text. Also conditional call forwarding for Google voice works.

Remember the nexus 4 will get double the download speeds in most areas on T-Mobile with Napa dual carrier. The galaxy nexus does not support dual carrier.

How to signup Nexus 4 with Solavei
I tried to signup my Nexus 4 with Solavei but their website says that my phone's IMEI is not compatible and does not let me go further.
I talking to one of their independent reps I was told the company hasn't updated their log of IMEI #s to reflect the new Nexus 4 phones; however, the nexus 4 WILL work on their tmobile network just like any other GSM phone, especially since the last generation nexus is compatible.
From what I was told by several reps, Solavei customers get the same 3g/4G coverage as regular Tmobile customers, but speeds begin to be throttled after 4 gigabytes of usage. 4 gigs is personally plenty for me considering the cheaper price.

Where do you see 4GB at on their site? All I saw was that it was unlimited. They seem no different than Straight Talk which is even cheaper than Solavei at $45/month and from my understanding with ST the cap can go as high as 7GB or more..probably depending on local congestion.

A couple different reps have told me that they throttle after 4 gigabytes. 4 Gigs of 4g speed is plenty for me considering I also use wifi at home and work. And living in South Florida Tmobile 4g is very good. It all depends on your area.
My contract with AT&T ends in March and I plan on leaving them because I get no signal at school or at work. I will probably end up signing up with Solavei.
Thanks for the info.
I'm really interested in switching to this phone and the T-Mobile $30 plan. I've been using a Motorola Triumph with Virgin Mobile @ $25 a month for unlimited text/data and 300 minutes, so the T-Mobile plan seems almost the same but with better coverage and less minutes (I don't even use my minutes).
I also have no idea what this Solavei thing is either. From what I'm guessing, all I need to do is buy the Nexus 4 from Google (or anywhere else that has it unlocked), buy the T-Mobile SIM card from their site, then sign up by buying a $30 plan/card from Walmart or Target. Does anyone have detailed instructions like what ztmike posted about Solavei? Or should I be signing up through Solavei anyway?
Thanks a bunch, guys.
Im thinking about ditching Verizon and paying the $350 bucks! but i can probably make that back from selling my S3. But what are your guys thoughts about getting a nexus 4 with straight talk? has anyone used Straight Talk and is it really worth it or is it one of those deals that are either "too good to be true" or "you get what you pay for"? cause just buy switching even if i dont sell my s3 ill still be saving $500 a year. Also whats the speed difference between hspa+ and 4g lte?

I don't have experience with Straight Talk, but that's what I plan on doing with my N4 except I'm gonna try T Mobile prepaid instead. If I don't like it, I'll switch to Straight Talk AT&T. I have $200 to pay for my EFT from AT&T.

I switched from Sprint [SERO Premium] to Straight Talk on my Galaxy Nuxus, & its been good so far (about three months so far). I'm in NYC, and i get about 5Mb down, sometimes slower and sometimes faster. Overall, the service is better than Sprint.
feel free to ask any specific questions.

Did you port over your number? If so was it pretty easy. I don't know anything about gsm phones I've been on Verizon for about 7years. do you just but the phone pop in the straight talk sim and activate like you would on Verizon?

Got 2 more questions if you forget to add more time to your account will you automatically loss your phone number and have to get a new one? Also if you decide to switch back to a carrier can you port your number back? I've been told that you can't port a number if you have a pre pay phone back to a carrier like Verizon or att.

What about Solavei? Anyone with any experience with them? I heard they use TMO's network.

The Galaxy Nexus was my first GSM phone, & I was with Sprint for over 10 years (my first cellphone was a Motorola Timeport).
I ported my number to Straight Talk, & it was simple*. My number was ported in about 24 hours, but it took about 48 hours to be 100% complete. During the process, I received a text message from at&t (I ordered an at&t compatible SIM card). I could make calls, but not receive any, & my friends couldn't receive the texts I sent. But after the second day, everything was ok. The phone showed 'no signal', for the first few hours (I started to think that my phone or SIM was defective).
Porting your number to Straight Talk effectively activates your SIM card with your old number. Just make sure you set your APN :Settings > Wireless & Networks > More > Mobile networks > Access Point Names (I left the "Proxy" empty)
*I was scared that I might lose my Sprint number to Straight Talk, so I ported it to Google Voice. Then I ported a custom number from another Google Voice account to Straight Talk.

1. I'm not sure, you'll have to ask customer service. But I read somewhere that they'll give you a day or two to add time to your account. They'll send you text reminders two weeks before your service ends).
2. This seems odd, you should just ask Verizon if they can port a number out from a pre-paid carrier (or just port to google voice).
I had one problem with Straight Talk: I couldn't see my service end date on their website, or add time. I called customer service and they deactivated & reactivated my account, fixing the issue. The call was pretty painless.
Hey OP. Take a look at this thread from the Galaxy Nexus forum. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1455014
It has all the info you would want to know about GSM Pre-Paid options.
Hello,
After waiting for over 30 minutes on phone with Straight Talk, the representative told me they don't have micro-sim for T-mobile in my area. Solavei doesn't support Nexus 4 yet. There is no end to carrier woes. I was thinking of getting T-Mobile connection as a lot of people are reporting higher speeds on T-mobile. Any of you in the same problem.
Thanks.
If you want Straight Talk T-Mobile, you'll need to get a regular SIM, cut it to Micro-SIM size, and hope it works. Or, perhaps try T-Mobile prepaid. You c an get $30/month unlimited text/data with 100 minutes of talk if you activate online.
There aren't really many carriers issues, I think, just certain choices and the occasional AT&T issue with data speeds/plans/getting them to work properly due to the way they do things.

I don't think I want to get into trouble of cutting sim cards. I might just get Solavei using Samsung S3 sim card which is a micro card and hope it works.

There is no trouble for cutting sim cards. And why don't you try AT&T on straight talk?
I'm on ST t mobile and cut my card data is faster but no signal inside buildings

I might. I wanted to give T-Mobile a try. I have been reading that T-Mobile runs 42Mbps and ATT runs 21Mbps.
I have ordered Solavei using S3 IMEI. Hope it works.

If you have decent T-Mo coverage in your area, I'd recommend trying it. I fell into the AT&T "You don't have an AT&T aprroved 4G device and therefore we can't give you a 4G plan" hole and no amount of explanation with 2 different CSRs resolved it. I could have given them an IMEI from one of the phones in their store, but decided that I'm trying too hard to get them to keep my money. I already had a T-Mo account (wanted to try out both for a few days before deciding). The port happened in 4 hours on a Saturday morning. I'm happy with my coverage and speeds so far.

Solavei doesn't yet support Nexus 4 but I used Samsung S3's IMEI to get a micro Sim. Hope it works.
Also I am porting my number to Google voice so I will be able to give both att and t- moo try without any hassle.

So as the Thread Title says, I have switched my Verizon Galaxy S5 over to Straight Talk, however i have 2 issues.
Issue #1 My HSPA+ data speeds are verrrrrry slow at times, currently averaging between 2.5MB/s and 4.1 MB/s Download speeds with between 0.8 and 0.95 upload speeds.
It has gotten as low as 0.12MB/s Down and .02 MB/s Up on HSPA+ I was wondering if this could possibly be an APN issue? Also it tends to switch between HSPA and HSPA+ alot but only seems to switch to HSPA when im not using data.
Issue #2 My phone shows an error This SIM card is from an unknown source. Is there any way to get rid of this without root (which we obviously don't have)??
Thank you very much for taking the time to read this.
Verizon phones are CDMA not GSM. Probably why you are limited to ultra slow speed for data, and also probably why you are getting an 'unknown sim' error being that the phone is verizon, and you put in a Straight Talk Sim.

Obviously you're unaware that the Galaxy S5 supports CDMA at LTE speeds AND GSM at HSPA+ speeds. The Verizon Galaxy S5 is a "world" phone and does not require any sort of SIM unlocking in order to be used on other carriers. (as i can show you with a simple screenshot). However i think my decrease in speeds is caused by a bad tower on the opposite side of town from where I actually live. While at home (with only 2 or 3 bars of service) i am able to get fairly decent speeds without issue. As far as the point of this thread goes i was wondering if anybody had any tips or tricks for better stability of the HSPA/HSPA+ network on the Verizon Galaxy S5 and to see if anybody was able to remove the SIM error without rooting. With rooting i know it can be achieved as i have already researched how to do so. I know why the SIM error is there, I'm not that oblivious. But thank you very much for your comment.
Your issue is very simple. You obviously didnt do your research before switching to straight talk. With straight talk you can have any carrier, you just have to have the right sim for that carrier. You probably got the t-mobile sim because thats the one they give if you dont ask. I have the at&t sim and it works perfect on my at&t phone. The only 2 sim cards you can get are at&t and t-mobile. You can use verizon and sprint with straight talk also. All you have to do is go to their website and it will tell you what to do. You have to look for the cdma section for activating a new phone if you want verizon. If you ported your number you can still keep it once you switch carrier options as long as you choose that at checkout. I just did all of this a couple of months ago and have done it several times in the past so I know what im talking about.

Not sure if you're aware that Straight Talk only supports T-Mobile. They used to support AT&T as well, but they switched to T-Mo. However existing customers that signed up when Straight Talk AT&T was around still get to use AT&T towers for now. There are some loopholes but 99.9% of people get T-Mobile when they sign up for Straight Talk as of today.
Straight Talk never used Verizon or Sprint.

Sounds like your issue is 100% APN.
Here are the APN settings for both Straight Talk and T-Mobile. Try the ST one first and then T-Mobile if that doesn't work. Don't know what to tell you after that, maybe try a new sim card.

I hate when people give out the wrong information. This is not the case and hasn't been the case for awhile. Do your research 1st. Go to straighttalk website and click on byop under shop. Now go to the very bottom where it says see all coverage and it shows the coverage maps of all 4 major providers. Now if you go with that same byop shop page and click on shop at the top, it will bring up a page where you can either buy a t-mobile or at&t sim, and on the right hand side you can also buy a cdma access code. This is not rocket science. Also, apns for every sim card for gsm and cdma access are different. I am not gonna list the apns because reply would be too long but its not hard to find. There are also numerous youtube videos covering this as well as multiple google results. I literally just bought an at&t sim when I upgraded to the gs5 because i had an t-mobile gs3 with the same straight talk service and didn't care for t-mobile. It is true that if you buy a straight talk phone from wal-mart then yes it will probably be a t-mobile phone but to say you can't bring your own phone and use whatever carrier is not an intelligent thing to say when you clearly can.

No need to get in a bunch. I wasn't aware that they started using AT&T and others again. Last year when I was network searching, STalk just stopped signing up new customers with the AT&T plans and their data limit was 2.5gb and not 3 like now. Sorry.

Nah I'm using the at&t sim. T mobile has garbage coverage out here. I bought the byop package from Wal-Mart that contains both SIM cards.
As for the people saying I should have done my research first, your input is irrelevant to me considering I'm not like every other person in this section of the forums. I know what I'm doing when it comes to this kind of things and of course I did my research ahead of time. So if you're going to come into my thread just to insult my intelligence, you can stop talking because chances are I probably know more about this subject than you do without having to have my face in a web browser.
As for the guy posting about apn, thank you very much for your input. I'll take a look to see if what you had linked is any didn't from what I currently have in my phone. However right now it won't make a difference because I'm being throttled down to .05 mb/s download and .08 mb/s upload.

I did the same with an s4 and s5, but were slow and had horrible battery life. I couldn't get either phone to activate on the cdma network, so i used a tmobile sim. t mobile has a horrible network her, so I am pretty sure my issue was signal strength.

tmobile is pretty terrible unless you're in a major city. AT&T is the way to go through straight talk. However i would recommend Cricket, much better pricing and less network issues.
