I do have a biased opinion about having a nice large screen. I guess I prefer (Phablets but still undecided on how I feel about the Galaxy Note 2 and the DNA as the size is a little bit large. That doesn't mean it is a NO from me just yet)
So if you are like me. You have had your SGS2 since launch. Soon after this, they released the Galaxy Note 1 and then SGS 3. Both have advantages over the S2 for different reasons but still not *UNIQUELY DIFFERENT* enough from the SGS2 to make the change for myself. I am still keeping in mind that both of these said phones "might be better" especially the SGS 3, however just not quite enough to push me over the edge. In fact it somewhat stalled and got me thinking if Samsung were pushing these phones out fast then it is only going to be a matter of a couple of months before we see something that does *WOW* me.
Well I was right, as you will see below is a list of the new upcoming phones that are all awesome and worthy of a genuine upgrade over the SGS2, Don't get me wrong I was very tempted to upgrade earlier but managed to hold back because of the awesome and continued community support for our phone.
Below is the list of phones I have my eye on, just in case anybody out there wasn't aware of these options. I am here today to show you (After googling and reading forums which could have been done by you, but let's face it some people are just lazy + I want to hear what you guys think!)
HTC Droid DNA(Butterfly)
Samsung Galaxy Note 2
LG Nexus 4
Sony Xperia Odin / Yuga(Dogo) Some more info about the rumoured Sony devices
Here is a rough comparison chart of the Nexus 4 / Note 2/ HTC DNA. Unfortunately the Sony devices are still up in the air so it is not covered. Here is another comparison but this time only between the Note 2 and the DNA
Which phone have you got your eyes on? Any other recommendations would be great! I am starting a poll out of these phones
The note is far too big and far too heavy.

Isnt the Droid DNA bigger in size than the note 2 ? Also despite its bigger size it has a smaller screen than note 2. I would prefer note2 over droid dna .

I think the Note 2 is like .5 of an inch larger. There are some conflicting measurements across different sites
The Underling is currently using a Note, so unlike most of the other opinions served up by people when these threads spring up, his is based on actual experience using the device in question.

Over the next 6 months there will be some absolute crackers coming out - I honestly think either Sony or Motorola will produce something that becomes the next hot thing
S2 is working great for me and the latest leaked JB firmware gave it a new life . Thanks Samsung !

For me the note is to big & the sgs2 is still perfect but I would sell it to get the nexus 4 as I'm loving the Google experience on my N7.

The Nexus 4 seems to be winning the poll right now too. I am amazed that nobody has selected Sony though. Only 1 person for the DNA. Interesting! I would love to see how this progresses
I just wish the Nexus 4 had a 32GB option, 4G and a larger battery, if it was removable then you could at least slap a bigger one in there!
One reason to get the note 2...
I love this thing, you get used to the size after a while. In time it becomes natural and a smaller screen becomes a chore. If you like watching media or browsing on your device its a no brainer..
And the battery life is phenomenal...

im choosing between sony and google nexus phone. if i have to get a larger screen then i'd rather get N7 for that..

Wow, with the note being such a success I wonder if in the further all phones will be 5.3 inches and future 'tablet/phone' hybrid devices will be 7 inches?
Even now some people say I'm ridiculous carrying such a big phone but I see this 'big' phone being looked at as 'too small' in a few years??? Though I don't think they will make phones with screens bigger than 7 inches considering 7 inches is already a 'mini' tablet's size.
Either ways I also hope they don't release a Note 2 so soon, just bought my note in February, would hate for it to be 'old' or 'outdated' in less than a year, I feel like past mid 2013 would be the perfect time or maybe end of 2013 in December.

That's actually very interesting because they pumped a lot od money to manufacture and promote Galaxy Note which was - let's be honest - an experimental device. With 7 millions sold - and people getting excited about it everyday and buying more and more - i guess Note 2 is a matter of time.
But i have to agree - not yet. It's still too early to release Note 2.
The note is an amazing device, everyone that sees mine loves it even if it is a bit big for some. I normally get itchy feet around the six month mark of having a phone, thinking I want a new one, but haven't thought about getting a new phone at all. Its amazing how badly the dell streak did compared to the note. Probably because of dells lack of advertising, but also I guess all the right things just came together with the note and has captured peoples imagination, the hd amoled screen, the s-pen the dual core great camera, great gps it just does everything well. Never had a phone I enjoy using so much!!

I'm sort of doubting that 7" will become a phone standard. The Note is already approaching the upper limit of what many people can reasonably hold and fit in normal pockets. I wouldn't be surprised to see some tablets come with a mic and speaker to be used as a phone though.

I tried to carry Galaxy Tab 7.7 (it support normal phone, I can call and sms), it was too big for me. Ideal is 5.0 - 6.3.
6 inches would be an ideal replacement for a tablet and phone to me. Galaxy Note 5.3 sometimes feels small for internet or drawing.
Yeah I hope note 2 has a bigger screen. 6 would be good

Yea now thinking about it again I doubt 7 inch phones but 6.5 inch is still possible. Only one thing that gets in the way, when we use the note to talk...... now with the note even though some people are like its so wired, I think its just fine as its just right from my ears down to my mouth, the length of the phone is exactly right and its not too wide that to covers the entire of my face on the side, so bigger screen mean its going to be longer/wider, I can't say it will look wierd until I see it being used but this is definetly a concern.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda priemium
No matter what, the Note 2 has to be pocketable.
That totally rules out 7".
I could maybe see 5.8, if they somehow find a way to make bezelless phones. Which completely hasn't happened yet. I already can't really tie my shoes when it's in the front pocket of a couple of my pants. It's pretty close to borderline for me.

I think we should be reasonable here.
I think if anyone who wants Note 2 to be bigger than 5.8" should really consider getting a tablet and phone separately.
I wouldnt mind a 5.8" personally but anything bigger will be really hard to use as a phone.
Also I really want a 16:10 ratio screen res like the current Note.
Perhaps 1920x1200
Im all about bigger screens but anything bigger than the Note would be simply too big for me. Still im pretty sure they could manage to give us 5,5" screen without increasing the device's dimensions. That would be nice.

OK maybe if the cut off the buttons and just have one small (but big enough for the average thumb size) home button and removed the Samsung logo ontop of the phone and made the screen wider removing the little space on the sides, it could happen, also hope that in future Notes, speakers are on the bottom or sides of the phone and not the back rely dumb to have it there

To each their own. No one can tell you which one you'll like better. If you like the Note 2, stick with it, you already have it
If you like a screen this big, there is no reason to switch to a smaller one. If the Note II is too big for you, you could switch. Aside from that, I think nobody can really help you with that decision. Getting the pure stock experience should be easily achievable with custom ASOP roms.
Simply put, Keep the Beast that is... The Note 2, I too am a hard-core purist when it comes to Android but, watching videos like the following leave me awestruck and wonder why I own 4 laptops, and 2 desktops!?
http://blog.gsmarena.com/samsung-sm...e-of-with-a-galaxy-note-ii-in-the-front-seat/
Check the Video in that Link... Legend... Wait for it... You get the point
ALSO, The immense support and love developers put into Samsung Products, other then Google-affiliated. There will never be a shortage of roms or customizations for the Note 2. For reference, my daily phone is a Atrix HD Maxx... I'd be lucky to even see an official JB Rom. I do own the wonderful G. Nexus, aswell as hordes of other phones... anyways...
ALSO, Resale value on the Note 2 will always trump most phones, like buying a Lamborghini or Bugatti...
Hope all of this helps, my choice-riddled friend
Do you like the 5.5" screen? Do you need it? Or would you prefer something a tad bit smaller? Do you need/use the stylus? How about TouchWiz? Is it fulfilling your needs?
Im in the same boat

Apples and oranges - look at the huge difference in price.
I already have the Note 2 + 64gb microSD - and will get the Nexus 4 as a secondary phone, not as a replacement.

Saying that, the device is fantastic.

Why would you want to swap? The Note 2 is superior in most things and it doesn't use Pentile like the GS3 so it even has a really good screen, though the GS3's is really nice anyways. I mean the 5.5" screen is so lovely, I wouldn't be able to go back to the screen of the Nexus, remember it's more like 4.4" or whatever with that permanent bar there, it even exists in full screen apps.
The only superior thing I see in the Nexus 4 is the GPU but tbh in everyday use you wont notice it and games aren't even good enough to push the Mali 400 in the GN2 yet.

I came from a GS3. So I've owned the Note 2 for for about 5 days and here's is how I feel: It is absolutely a BEAST. Gorgeous phone. HOWEVER, after holding my brothers S3, I feel like going back to the S3 because it seems SO small and ALL OF A SUDDEN I can touch all 4 corners of the screen! I swear I was not able to to that BEFORE I had tried the Note II. Now S3 feels like the perfect size phone. I feel terrible that I'm even thinking about getting rid of the Note II but the feel of the S3 in my hands now is just way too tempting. I previously had the pebble blue, but I'm thinking of buying the brown SGS3. Anybody else's thoughts on this? How do you feel after looking at S3 after trying Note 2? Do you feel your fingers have gotten longer?

I've had my Note 2 for 40 days now. The size is a minor annoyance compared to all the features gained over a S3. Split screen. AirView for web browsing. Just always having a device where I can take it out of my pocket and start writing is irreplaceable. Sure, you can take out a S3, unlock it, open a writing app, then start typing. But that's not like taking out the S Pen and writing just like you had a pad and paper. I think 9 out of 10 times I would just end up choosing to not write things down unless it was something really important. It is true the S3 does look small, but that is also the reason why I would prefer the Note 2. I don't want the smaller phone.

I was going to get a Nexus 4, until I realised that it didn't really improve on any area of the Galaxy Nexus that really mattered to me (storage space, battery life, camera quality etc).
It was either the Note 2 or HTC One X+ for me, but with the Note I felt I could get rid of my N7 which I also hardly used to help fund the Note 2.
I do prefer Vanilla Android but I never had THAT much of a problem with TouchWiz on the S2.
There is no comparison. For me personally the next gen smartphone move logically is the Note 2 and all the other size factor phablets from other oems which come after it.
Lets face it. The battery life technology isnt growing at an exponential rate like the other hardware of the phone. Its just oure physics. Bigger battery longer battery life. Bigger thr phone, bigger the possibility of fitting a bigger battery.
Note II's INSANE battery life alone is a worthy upgrade over any snartphone experience right now. Plus the new non pentile 5.5inch 720p samoled screen is another big factor
For me like I said, "phablet" is the next logical step in the smartphone era

No I'm not going back to a smaller size anytime soon. However my son just yesterday got a SIII and after playing with it a bit I can honestly say that it's perfect for someone wanting a normal sized device.
this is why i have tyhe best of both worlds i actually own them bought and with the new s3 rom leak it's even better..i'm overwhelmed with the processing power of the responsiveness of the beasts
I've had it for a while now and all I can say is that I'd get the S3 if I hated the size. My partner has the S3 and loves it but envies my note 2. They're similar in function, but the larger screen is a must for me. As is the pen. So it's a no brainer for me. But i'm sure for others its a deal breaker. I personally love the note 2. Also, the 1gb ram in the international s3 sucks. I mean it's fine, but it has redraws and such, and multitasking isn't as fluid. My.02¢

Oh god, please tell me why? I don't see any reasons now: my note is still snappy (thanks to jb leaks), there are no games, that aren't playable (my main concern for every phone is shadowgun dead zone and it runs smoothly).
BUT with note I still have a monster battery, monster display and monster storage.
Really, nexus 4 is a nice phone. But I can't find any reasons to change galaxy note, HTC one x, s3 or even galaxy nexus to nexus 4. I mean, if you are looking for a new phone, go and grab it, if you already have one, just pass it

Ok here are my reasons:
1) nexus 4 uses gorilla glass 2. Search a bit about it. It is actually thinner and when you swipe your finger on screen, because of the elimination of the extra layer, you feel so nice and it is like touching the icon by your finger. You should try to find out what I mean.
2) 2 GB ram and quad core cpu is great. You think your note is monster now but after working with nexus 4 you will change your opinion. Just i.e. I feel flying when I use chrome compared to note.
3) battery is great here. Near 6 hr screen on time under super heavy use. Wifi on all the time, music, surfing, game etc.
4) Most recent upgrades of android. This one worth much more than anything. Imagine that in May we are gonna get key lime pie 5.0 and you are still on 4.1
How much more do you need?
By the way ips is much better than amoled. With amoled and the over saturation your eyes get tired after a while but with ips no !

Can you tell us the reason why you're coming in the Galaxy Note section to tell to Note users (ie peoples who choosed to buy a Note) to buy another mobile ?
Seriously, go touch yourself in the N4 section, if Note users want to trade their mobile for a N4 or anything elses, i guess they'll be smart enough to go in the right section.
And my 2 cents, N4 sucks for me, no need of the hardware and i prefer a bigger screen + Spen.

Nexus 4 is a great phone. No one will deny that, but there is something many of the users here would agree with me on. And to let you see why, then i'm gonna answer all of your points here.
1. Samsung Galaxy Note II also use Gorilla Glass 2.
2. Samsung Galaxy Note II also have 2 GB RAM and a good Quad-core CPU.
3. The battery is much better on the Galaxy Note II.
4. Samsung Galaxy Note II also gets the latest releases thanks to XDA-Developers.
So, my question is then, why should anyone go from a Galaxy Note to a Nexus 4 instead of a Galaxy Note II?
And don't get me started on the multiview windows functionality that is actually a reason alone on why we Note users choose a phone like a Note over anything else.
Because if you sell your note and add 30 $ or euro more you can get a perfect phone but for note 2 you should pay around 150 euro more.
Besides, lets face it, google support is better or xda? Xda without source code can not do anything ! And samsung sucks at releasing source codes !

Something all these Galaxy Note wanabe's seem blind to is the s-pen ; it's not just about a larger than usual phone screen, but you can write on it...properly..with a pen...detailed stuff, useful stuff. If all you want is bigger Angry Birds then I'm sure one of the other 5" + screens are great but the Note is successful because it serves all the creatives out here who are not happy drawing with a fat finger. Maybe it's just me :cyclops:

Non removable battery is a deal breaker. Can you replace the battery without breaking something ?

Guys I had note for one year and liked it a lot but I just got my nexus 4 and sold my note. They have somehow almost the same price but guys I gotta tell you nexus 4 is a wonderful device and I just love it.
I really advice you to sell your note and buy this thing.
By the way smaller screen is even better and surprisingly somehow a relief, seriously !
Battery life is great great great ! I just felt to share my experience with you
Kudos

I had my Note for 15 months and LOVED it, best smartphone in the world BY FAR. Actually, I would say the ONLY REAL smartphone in the world as it was the only one actually USABLE.
I just upgraded to a Note II which is improved in literally *everything* but in the most important spec (display dimensions) and the least important one (looks. I liked much better the Note I).
The Note II has a smaller display in its shorter side and that's my ONLY gripe with it, I hate the fact that they went with the 16:9 aspect ratio and the fact that 5.5" 16:9 means a NARROWER display and that's why I initially hold off upgrading but after seeing IRL what 2GB of RAM really mean I instantly bought the Note II and sold the Note. BEST UPGRADE EVER (save for the stupid display aspect ratio...).
The Nexus 4? It's an Apple-like P.O.S. which with its MORONIC non-removable battery, ridicolously insufficient non-expandable internal memory and small display is totally *useless* and *worthless* to me.
a device with at least large screen (>5inch), s-pen, tablet rom (with all features Notes is offering), nice design (quare, not s3-like) would get my consideration, a bit, otherwise none will be comparable with the incredble Note
the sucking hardware does not matter, at least IMO, even a Nexus 40 will be said like this OP when the Nexus 41 comes, you should know how to use your device, or you will sell your Nexus 40 soon for a Nexus 41
it is crazily rediculous for these words in Note area
there is no way on this earth you could convince me to buy LG hardware.
Also No micro SD = deal breaker.
Thanks for your expression but No thanks.
Nexus 4 is not 5.3 inch. It does not have SPen. No multi-windows. The display does not show true black. Blurry scroll--Amoled screen refreshes so much faster than lcd. Those are the reasons I stick to my beloved Note until Note 3.

Not a big deal at all, 5 minutes.
As a current Note I owner I've tested N4 for 2 full days. I can only say 2 good things about it: the uber sexy body and smoothness. Apart from it - no SD card and a worse camera are a no-go. Before testing it, I used CM10.1 on my Note but after a month or so I decided I was missing Samsung's touch too much (I like the additions and a bit nicer GUI). So I installed RR ICS V12 and completely happy now.
I also realized that Note is too big for me - the one-handed operations feel like on the edge of dropping it all the time! So I skipped Note2 and waiting for S4 now.
I totally get what you all are saying. I was very doubtful too, especially about screen size but now I am sure that for a phone it should definitely be below 5 inch. Now I am sure that the concept of phablet is crazy.
I will get a tablet soon and I think this is right. Big size of note 1 was really annoying for me.
About note 2, I agree that it is way better than note 1 and the reduce in its width was a clever action. But guys! Direct update from google is something that no one can overlook it.
S pen had no use for me at all and I am sure if someone really use s pen he or she should get note 10.1 or note 8 not this because it is way too small for using a pen on

I love my N4, but the S4 definitely shows up with some tempting features. Should I wait for the N5?

You need to make that decision for yourself. I personally am never leaving nexus because I can't stand the crap HTC and at&t put me through, and updates from carriers are extremely slow and unlocking your boot loader voids your warranty, etc. I'm done with it. I can tolerate no LTE and slightly older hardware if it means being the top dog and getting catered to by Google.
In the end, only you can make the choice. There are pros and cons for each device

A typical S3, S4 shopper doesn't know what and Android is, they just buy what they are told to be the other phone that is not an Iphone, the words "operation system" makes them bertstare at you, do you want to be associated with them?
At this point in the game, no matter how powerful phones will get, the N4's hardware will be good for years, we're overkilling our needs currently in my opinion.
It may be behind in synthetic benchmarks and will get left in the dust from now on but seriously, a quad core krait, Adreno 320, and 2GB of RAM? It'll be fine for a while.
Remember, most apps and even probably most games only use/need a basic dual core and a gig of RAM for functioning.
Imo, if you're into AMOLED, then go for the S4. I love Nexus devices, I love theming for them and what not. S3 didn't really wowed me much but the S4 managed to do so, I used it yesterday and I fell for it! Mainly because I'm very much into AMOLED and I love that crisp 1080p display.
If you asked us whether to jump off the bridge or not and we told you yes do it, would have you done it?

Personally, I'd go back to a dumb phone before buying a non-nexus. I will be sticking with my n4 until the 6th generation Nexus phone comes out though.

My thoughts exactly. I'll be sticking with this n4 until the dubbed "nexus 5" is released. The. Current n4 to the new n4 is essentially an HTC one X to an HTC One X+.
Its not a major upgrade, but its there for people that need to upgrade.. Or just want to

Saw a review of the n4 vs the s4. Obviously didn't pass the s4 in processing power . but they pointed out that most apps don't even take advantage of the speed that the n4 possess. Hardware wasn't that much different. Yes the s4 will have a few magical features like eye scrolling, whoop de do! But the plastic cheap body is still there.

I will probably stick with the N4 at least until the N6 is released. Our device will not be slow anytime soon, and I don't think in half a year there would be apps our device can't run smoothly.
I can't stand amoled.

Programs are getting more lightweight and I/O's are getting the same way and more efficient. N4 will crush for a few more years

I've owned 3 devices with SAMOLED and all of them have had issues. My SGS died and went green, My SGS II would go orange/Yellow at medium brightness and the GNexus had a slight blue tint. Switched to the N4 and love the screen.
My N4 will be with me for a long time yet. Looks amazing up against more plasticy phones
look at the HTC one before looking at the S4, im getting the One myself tonight.
I'm going to have to agree with most replies posted already. I'm sticking with the Nexus 4 for another year, then maybe getting a Nexus 6 (or whatever that next Nexus device will be called). The phone is so insanely cheap, yet packs the latest and greatest hardware. It's perfect. Yeah, the newer phones coming out like the S4 will have slightly better hardware, but it's been 6 months since the Nexus 4 got released. That happens with every cell phone in the history of cell phones. Heck, the Nexus 5 will probably have better hardware than the S4 when it finally comes out.
I guess what I'm trying to say OP, is make that decision for yourself. All phones have their pros and cons. If I were in your shoes, I would try to wait for the N5, but I can see the appeal of getting the S4. It's a darn-good phone, and you don't have to wait for it to be released. Actually, I was in your shoes a few weeks ago. I ended up getting the Nexus 4 because it's still a solid phone, and I don't have to wait for the Nexus 5 to come out, plus I can get it off contract for close to the price I'd have to pay for the S4 on-contract. There are multiple things you have to consider when making that decision. Some things that helped me make my decision and will help you makes yours is some comparison articles. Google something like "Nexus 4 vs Galaxy S4". The article will be comparing the Nexus 4 instead of the Nexus 5, but it will still be helpful because they usually touch on things like pure Android vs company-customized Android and the pros and cons of each, among other important things.
Actually, depending on how time-sensitive your decision is, I would wait until Google's I/O event to see if they will be revealing a newer version of the N4, or maybe teasing the specs of the N5. That should help your decision.
For me software plays a big part and with a nexus device we will see 4.3 soon, and key lime pie after that. The sgs4 and others will still be on older software.
Sure the Samsung has a better camera, expendable storage, removable battery if those things are important too you then purchase the Samsung. For me 16gb is enough for my needs, the battery lasts me a day without having to recharge, and the camera takes ok shots I can live with that until the next nexus.
Decide what you need out of a phone, only you can decide that, handle the Samsung and see how you feel with it.
