anyone else had a reboot when using the camera? had a couple now.
Yes I have, went to the camera through the lock screen widget. Took a picture swiped right to go to the gallery and it froze up and rebooted.
I haven't had any reboots yet. I've used both the stock camera and Camera Zoom FX app. Are you on the latest OTA update?
Yea i updated as soon as the update showed.
After the reboots i powered the phone off and on again and have taken a further 20 odd random snaps and have fingers crossed not had it happen since
Not that it should make any difference but i did have the phone volume lowered completely to silent to get rid of the shutter noise when the reboots occurred

I haven't updated yet but haven't had any problems so far. I lowered my volume to silent and still don't have problems (doubt this would matter). Do let us know if it happens again! I'll be updating to the latest OTA tonight and test it out then.
before i get too deep into using the phone, think i'm going to reset to factory and start again. once done i'll give the camera a full going over see what occurs. hopefully nothing more but we'll see
i just had two random reboots after using the camera?
Is it still happening to people?
it hasn't happened since my first post yesterday. I reset the phone today and used the camera with various settings taking a mix of shots but all has been well today so who knows what is going on!

Is anyone else having issues with the new YouTube app that was recently released?
Every time I press "back' during a video playback the phone freezes & crashes on me - is this happening to any of you??
yup. Happens to me each and everytime. I can only remedy it with a damn battery pull
Same happens to me, I had to force a reboot though ADB (It didn't fix anything when I uninstalled Youtube from ADB effectively killing its process).
It crashed once while watching a video and I pressed the back button. However, I've tried to recreate the issue and I can't get it to crash at all now.
Nope, working perfectly fine here.
It locks up on me when pushing the "back" button, too. Battery pull required. Boo.
Looks like I'm not the only one having this issue.... I hope they update it soon, the new apps pretty sick!

The same thing happened to me today. Had to pull out the battery to restart.
Sent from my DETHFONE (G2)
Same here on both of our g2's. One rooted and on normal. When hitting back it locked the phone up tights. Have to pull battery to restart.

Yeah push the back button then it gets all messed up... what an update.. I'm sure it'll be fix but not right away.. plus its really just the UI, just uninstall until its fix
Meaning about the UI isn't that the only real update?? Everything else seems the same..EXCEPT for the video playing on the spot once instend of extending the info
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using Tapatalk
Yeah, it's good to see it's not just me. It's happened at least half a dozen times in the past couple days to me. Personally, I loathe battery pulls so I just sit and click back and home a few hundred times to get a fc option.

Happens to me too... Though not every time. But most of the time.

Yea this is VERY annoying. Sucks too because I really like the new UI.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
yes same here because the rent is to damn high
It freezes on me as well
Hmm.. seems like I'm one of the few for whom the new Youtube is working perfectly.
It does the same thing for me - near frozen when I hit the back button on a video. The first time I did this I had the patience to eventually go through a power-off sequence (15-30 seconds between hitting buttons and getting a response). The second time I just did the 3 finger salute to reboot it.
Note that you don't have to pull the battery. Power-VolumeDown-Trackball is an instant reboot sequence (though it did take 5 to 10 seconds to perform it when Youtube was acting up).
Just a question here... most of you with issues do you have 1st batch/pre-release G2's? I only ask because I had a pre-release G2, and I had a crap load of issues with it. I sent that one back for an exchange to Tmobile, and got my new one yesterday. I have zero issues at all. New YouTube works great, I have full signal now, and, well the phone works the way its meant to work.
Hey guys I got my phone the other day and last night I had some issues with the camera. I was at a wedding taking a few pictures and I noticed that after a few pictures the camera would stop taking pictures. It wouldnt freeze but pressing the shutter would have no effect. If I was taking pictures with the flash on auto, then when this would happen the flash would just stay on (as if it were in video mode).
I bought two phones (one for my wife) and she had the exact same problem.
Anyone know what's up?

Mine did the exact same thing. I was using the camera pretty heavily and all of a sudden it just quit taking pictures. I rebooted and hasn't happened since.

same exact thing happened here... seemed to happen after a run of a few photos, closing the app (via the recent apps button, swipe to close) helped, but happens again after a while...
Yeah... rebooting or closing the app helped but it still happens. I even did a hard reset.

My wife is having this same exact issue - its driving her nuts (and me nuts, by proxy).
She's had success fixing the issue by rebooting. What I've noticed is that this seems to happen when the camera app is working really hard to track a face, or a group of faces with the face detection feature.
[Temporary Solution]
This is deffinetly a camera bug!!
We should open a thread in the Android Bug List if there isn't one already.
Problem:
The issue is with focusing in very dark environment.
It happens when the camera can not meter correctly and becomes stuck.
The entire camera app hangs and does not respond to user input.
At this point it's best to kill the camera app by pressing the Recent Apps button (double rectangle)
and swiping the app away. Restarting the app restores functionality.
One temporary solution:
The app only hangs when pressing the blue "Take a snap" button while the focus circle is absent.
To take a picture in the dark without problems first tap the screen to focus on a subject.
When the focus circle turns green it's safe to take the picture.
Yeah. Its a bug. I noticed it when taking more than five pictures.

Its not about the number of pictures you take. Try snapping a picture while the camera is in the middle of tapping to focus (before the sensor goes green) that usually does it for me. It's hard to reproduce immediately but I am seeing it happens A LOT when taking pictures.
It's Google issue 40996: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=40996
When taking pictures in low light situations with flash (it seems low battery enhances the probability) sometimes the pictures get artifacts (white lines close to the top/bottom of the picture).
And sometimes the phone gets stuck and reboots. The camera tends to make clicking noises right before it reboots that are louder than when usually focusing.
Look at the screenshot and at the end you can see the reboot. You can see a sudden battery level drop after the reboot.
I don't know if this is hardware or software related but a user suggested this to be a problem with the stock camera app.
I had this problem on two devices already and it seems to be on all devices, maybe just rarer for some people? Not sure.
If you have this problem vote for the following issue and hope google fixes it:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=49702&#makechanges
I had something similar happen to me once last week. I was viewing my photos in the stratosphere mode and would hit the back button. I had to repeatedly do this to scroll to the next images after viewing them. When hitting the back button it would take me back to take a picture, but one time, it took me to a blank screen with the camera buttons still working. I ended up needing to restart my phone. Not sure what happened there.
I have only seen this once. It didn't occur again, so I haven't chased it down
Ditto only happened once in the first week of using and has never happened again

Kinda sucks when it happens randomly, today it happened twice to me and that in 4.2.2!

I also have it, but less frequent, about one or two times per month. It happened on 4.2.1 and no one could solve it in my thread about this .

While taking pictures my phone suddenly got stuck and rebooted. This is the second time now. My camera makes strange click noises sonetimes wheb focusing but that seems to be normal.
The device was a little hot but not as hot as when in gaming and in gaming it never reboots.
Look at the screen shot and at the end you can see the reboot. What I'm worried about is the sudden battery level drop after the reboot.
Are these reboots hardware or software related? Should I get a replacement?

I seem to have the same issue. So far, it has only occurred when I am trying to take a photo with the flash on. One more observation: seems to happen more often if the battery is low. However, both of us might be having defective devices, as it doesn't seem to be a common issue looking the forums here.
No solution found so far. Tried a factory reset. Tried using another camera app. Nothing helped. Might try flashing a custom ROM.

All oft the things you described apply to my situation too. Also I noticed that pictures tend to have artifacts (white stripes close to the top/bottom). They always have the same distance from top/bottom but their length differs.
Also after the forced reboot there sometimes appears an extra picture in the gallery that is fully grey.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I don't seem to have the artifact problem that you described. Also there is a creaking sound sometimes just before it restarts.
Have you tried flashing a custom ROM? Did it help? Otherwise RMA is possibly the way to go.
I ordered the phone from US using a mail forwarding service, so an rma will cost me another $100 or so. If you or anyone else can confirm that it is definitely a hardware issue which can be resolved by getting a replacement, i might go for it.

I was on AOKP PUB Krait 05/02 by Stevespear and Harsh Kernel and I did have a reboot there once too. Also this is already my third Nexus 4 since I had to replace it 2 times due to issues (bottom side creaking 1st device / yellow blotches 2nd device) and this one really looks good only this camera reboot issue is left.
But my first phone did have the issue too, I didn't have the 2nd phone long enough so didn't see it happen there. I have no idea if it is a hardware or software issue but my bet is that all Nexus 4's have that issue.
It just seems that it appears rather rarely and most people don't notice it. Or it could be that the voltage is too low and that would explain why it happens on some phones more than on others since not all chips are equal. I was wondering if somehow setting the flash to be weaker so it draws less power would solve this. But I am just a user and don't really have an idea.
PS: I won't get my phone replaced since I can live with this issue (it happens rather rarely) and I went through 2 replacements to get this device which is close to perfect but I wouldn't mind if someone came up with a solution.
That makes me feel really lucky to have gotten a nearly perfect device. Anyway, guess we just have to live with it then. Lowering the flash intensity sounds like a good idea. Will check if some rom/kernel/app can do it for me.

Having the same problem here on 4.2.1 and 4.2.2. I think it might be the buggy stock camera/gallery app because I can't replicate the problem on the Camera Zoom FX app.
Edit: I remember having this problem on 4.2.1 and then clearing the gallery app data and not ever seeing the issue happen again. I will try the same on 4.2.2 and see if it fixes it too.
I added a link to the issue on OP guess that is all I can do.

I have had this issue with the Camera FX Zoom app also. So, at least in my case, I guess it's a hardware/camera driver issue. Anyway, I also cleared the gallery app data a few days back and haven't faced this issue since then, but haven't taken enough pics with flash to confirm that the issue is truly gone.

Has the issue disappeared after clearing the app data for you? I certainly have not faced any reboots since doing it.
What's your short review about 108 update
so far so good, much better battery life since 4.3 also. theres a few bugs here and there but nothing i can remember right now so can't be a big deal. could use the bring back apps to sd for what they did with xperia sp again, i wouldn't mind that at all.
my vibration now gives a squeaking sound after the update

i'm having occasionally device reboot on 108.. not sure why
Not sure what's the problem, but two things that persist from the earlier firmware is the occasional freeze of the camera and the occasional reboot. nothing too major, but noticeable nonetheless
Me too, random reboots every week or two weeks.
Sent from my C6903 using XDA Free mobile app
The camera on mine will sometimes freeze whenever you take a second photo, and video mode the stop buttons stops working,
This happens consistently if the phone has been running for a few days. Reboot the phone and it works fine.
Battery life with the smart watch is much better than the 4.3 builds and almost as good as the orig 4.2's
i have none of those reboots and camera issues. i use my camera almost daily basses. my running time has been 3 weeks, and that's because i swapped out my sim card to test if an older phone is working or not.
wait, i hope i didn't jinx myself.
108 has been working flawlessly for me, before this I had battery drain, speaker bug, "camera not available" message and other small bugs

When pressing the back button quite rapidly it closes the current program and enters random programs, mostly the camera.
Other than that it is okay but not brilliant
People hold your voices!!New firmware is coming
This firmware update was the best update I received on my Z1.
KitKat was really buggy for me. I didn't had any random restarts, but I got the Camera Not Available for some time. The overheat was also a big problem. Direct Call shortcuts didn't had their contact photos on them. But, this update really fixed these things. The phone is smooth, no random app (camera opening) after tapping the back button like before.
Overall, great update!
Waiting for the new! Hopefully, something new will come...

Camera issue?
camera sometimes freezes, sometimes long time to open, and sometimes does not save a photo. helps only restart phone.
After 4.4 jack slot stoped working. I can't use my earphone with my Z1. So only way to use earphone (or something like that) is using bluetooth. I hope sony will fix it. On the other hand all of things are stable for me instead of jack slot.

Just over the past week I have been experiencing some trouble while taking a picture using HDR on my Nexus 4. I will open the app, activate HDR and my camera will make a few audible tick sounds and then the phone reboots. Now when I say audible, its a loud click which happens about 3 times. It doesn't happen every time and I can still take pictures, but randomly it will happen. I was running PA 4.5 with FK when it happened so I reverted to stock to see if it still happened and it does.
I have dropped my phone a few times but I have always had a case on it, using the Ringke Fusion. If anyone can shed some light on this it would be appreciated.

Hey,
I have this problem since I got the phone, whether i use stock rom or CM, especially in the Snapchat app.The phone does some little "knocks" and then reboot.
Meanwhile after 9 months and a Screen replacment by my self (now have little yellow tint "stamps" on the Screen :/) it´s only small Problem.
