This thread is applicable only to those whose cell works perfectly fine without sim card inserted but goes into a bootloop with sim card.
I'm therefore assuming that the bootloop is due to sim card itself and not any other reason.
I'm only sharing the info I got from another forum back when I originally had the issue. This issue was officially recognized in the HTC Rezound. However, the fix applies for our Willy also! The original post/threads are here:
http://androidforums.com/htc-rezound/478692-help-boot-loop.html
http://news.softpedia.com/news/HTC-Rezound-Boot-Loop-Issue-Gets-Fix-243597.shtml
The procedure to resolve bootloop is very easy and has worked EVERY SINGLE TIME for me ( on GB, ICS and JB as well):
1.Boot without SIM card (like I said earlier, this fix applies only to those who can boot perfectly fine without sim)
2.**For GB users only**Go to settings > wireless and networks > mobile networks > network preferences > select auto mode (this setting MIGHT previously be on GSM/WCDA(WCDMA preferred))
3.Go to settings > wireless and networks > mobile networks > network operators > select automatically (make sure that you get a popup saying 'registered successfully')
4.Reboot with SIM and you're good to go !
I usually experience this on first boot after flashing any rom. After this, all reboots are normal.
I'm absolutely no developer but I'll try my best to help......cheers !

Hello I tried several recent roms gingerbread or ics and in every time I do not have data connection but all the rest works very well.please help.
It is very unlikely.
What ROM did you try? SD version or NAND? You mean no data connection in 3G or wifi? You can try some clean and simple ROM, ex. NexusHD2-gingerbread, or Tyween's Typhoon CM7.
I have install typhoon , nexushd2 , mwakious , haldric , always in nand with ext4 1024mo.I have no 3g or internet connection (data transfer) , possible problem apn or i don't know. my clean install : task 29 magldr 1.13 , recovery 220mo, partition sd and install rom version magldr.
I have the same problem!
Wifi is on the other hand working flawless!
someone have the response?
Restart 3G
I posted this in a similar thread. It worked for me when I lost 3G. You may also need to check and update your APN settings for your mobile network if the below does not work. Sometimes removing the sim resets it.
# Go to Wireless & networks # mobile networks # network operators # Search networks # scanning for networks # list of operators will show up # select your network# Then go to Airplane mode # tick the checkbox to on for few seconds, untick the checkbox, phone will go into short reboots, re-enters your sim password to start your phone to your mobile network.
maybe you can check your APN setting for your networks,,,???
question: how to save network apn on meizu mx
details: meizu mx 032, using flyme 1.1.7(a9904)
with giffgaff sim
giffgaff sim recognised automatically, i.e. shows when i pull down main screen
however giffgaff doesn't show in network > apns
which show under 'apn access point' heading = o2 mobile web, o2 prepay, tesco.. and under 'mms' = o2 mms
the problem is that saving apn (existing of new) corrupts network/apns
tried:
1. with old flyme version (probably 1.1.4 or 1.1.5) with same problem
2. with flyme 1.1.7, if i just open existing apn, say tesco.. and only change the name to tesco2.. and click save.. and restart the android..... then it's all gone.. and problem crept
3. even after factory reset new apn addition, like for giffgaff.. fails. and then it's all gone
4. reset to default doesn't bring anything
5. and neither does restart/reboot
workaround: only factory reset works
debug:
1 wanted to find and edit config file where apn entry resides, but until now couldn't find the config file, as it must be somewhere in system partition as i can't access to it, even after enabling usb debugging, as these partitions aren't visible when i connect to computer... i can see data partition though
2. also disabled flyme sync, and google sync, to ensure that it's not syncing with my old copies of network.. as factory reset followed by sync(may be) caused same problem
3. later on will probably try with o2 sim
4. tried with android apps like 'giffgaff apn', 'apn manager, 'apn backup and restore', etc.. none work.. and these apps do say that this version of android doesn't allow apn 'saving'..or something like that
Hi,
I bought a second hand samsung s4(a few days old) from my friend...after inserting my sim in it, it isn't showing any network signals...when i looke in settings for network operators and selected automatically choose preferred networks, it shows "Can't connect to this network right now please try again later"...have removed and reinserted my sim in it but still no benifit...Have searched about my problem and found a related problem with another devices (s3) and it told them to place an EFS folder in root if you have backup but it was for a rooted phone and mine is not...So, Please help me
I have a NFC door lock , I need to change the NFC Processing Method but I do not have advanced settings in the menu. Even though when I click help on the device itself and select tap and pay it says for the help category it says:
To change your default processing method, go to setings > NFC > Advanced Settings.
Which NFC isn't even it's own menu off settings. I have been in developers setting and other went through the other settings and I am not finding it.
Anyone have any idea where it is? The lock developers says I have to change it from sim card to the android operation system in the settings.
This is what they gave me but it doesn't match up on the Verizon edition.
•Samsung S5 - Settings > Connections > NFC > Advanced settings (top right button) > Change NFC Processing Method == SE SIM Card // Android operating system. Change to Android operating system
Thanks
Mine has the advanced settings with SE SIM card & Android operating system options enabled by default... Not sure but try to clear the app data of your settings from Application manager. If it's still not there try maybe flashing another ROM(official or custom).
I tried clearing the app data and still nothing. I have the latest update from Verizon on the phone, so I don't run a custom rom.
Probably verizon had it disabled on their ROMs? I know most carriers are known for disabling specific phone features.
The NFC function lost after upgrating to Stock Oreo 8.1.0, while it works well on 7.1 all the time.
I confirm that I turned on the NFC botton in the settings menue, but the NFC didn't work.
I have unlocked the critical partitions before flashing, also tried OTA, but the NFC doesn't work at ANY TIME.
Anyone can help me? Thanks so much...
It works fine on 8.1 for me but I never unlocked anything. Normally the best thing to do would be to factory reset your phone and choose the start fresh option in the setup menu instead of restoring from a Google backup. Problems after a big update like Nougat to Oreo aren't uncommon and are nearly always fixable by doing a factory reset correctly (fresh start). But since you modded your phone something else might be going on.

Works fine for me.
I am rooted 8.1, Magisk, ElementalX.
I don't have any issues with it and I'm stock 8.1 unrooted.
I have tried third party Oreo 8.1, the NFC works fine.
Only failed on Stock Oreo 8.1.
I tried another time to do a new flashing with Back_to_Stock package 8.1, when flashing system_a.img and system_b.img, it showed a message " Invalid sparse file format at header magic", and after that, it began to flash the system image normally. But as usual, the NFC didn't work.

Anything related to the mistake? Thanks.

i've got the same issue. nfc doesn't recognize any card or device whilst it is activated in settings and nfc test app says anything is fine.
i'm using android pie but it was the same on oreo. my bootloader is fully unlocked. i always update via back-to-stock and fastboot.

I am running stock 8.1 and NFC didn't seem to work for me either until I touched a tag to the lower portion of the back and it fired. I was used to the sensor in previous phones being in the middle or toward the top. It would not work until it was in the lower 20% of the back side.
Don't know if it will be the same for you, but here's hoping.
yes, it was the same for me. i realized it just a few minutes after my post but didn't find it then. so i couldn't delete it.
I've been fighting to get mine to work, so far nothing. I contacted Essential tech support and they had me clear the cache and showed where the NFC sensor is (bottom part of the phone on the back). I tried using Android Beam to send/receive URL's with my old phone (confirmed that it can send/receive through Android Beam). Nothing is working. Debating whether or not to return the phone and get something else. Any help would be appreciated.
Here's what tech support sent me:
As a verification step, confirm that you're using the correct area of the phone for NFC. Unlike most smartphones, the Essential Phone's NFC chip is located on the bottom of the device.
If you are aware of the NFC position, to isolate the issue further and determine the best way to resolve this, I'd like you to try a few steps.
Ensure that NFC is enabled in settings. (Settings > Connected Devices > Connected Preferences > NFC)
Ensure that Google Pay is the default Tap & pay sevice (Settings > Apps & notifications > Advanced > Default apps > Tap & pay > Payment default > select the desired payment app)
Clear the cache in the NFC Service and reboot the device. (Settings > Apps & Notifications > See all apps > Three dots in the top right > Show System > NFC Service > Storage > Clear Cache)
Attempt to use the NFC service with another app or service like Android Beam (Settings > Connected Devices > Android Beam)
Chiming into this thread - NFC doesn't even show up for me in Connected Devices, on Android 9.
Look under connection preferences in connected devices

I don't have NFC or android beam in my preferences window.
Ok, what do you have?
Edit: just noticed it's you in two threads
Finally got mine resolved. Received a new phone under warranty yesterday. Confirmed that NFC works.
