So I flashed a 4.2 ROM yesterday, twice because there were problems the first time.
I then found that the contents of my SD card had been placed in a folder called 0, which was also placed in a folder called 0.
I wanted to do a nandroid restore to go back to PA but there was no package in Restore. The backup was in the 0 then 0 file. I copied and pasted TWRP from there and managed the backup.
So now I have PA running again, and all is well, apart from the fact that my SD card is two folders down in 0 then in 0.
Hope this makes sense.
What can I do to get back to the proper setup?

I'm just taking a guess here, the double 0s could be because you flashed the ROM twice.
The 0 otoh is most probably for multiuser support. User count starts from 0.
/data should have also been affected.
This should be the correct setup afaik. Tools like CWM recovery should be updated for these changes.

I guess my only solution is to flash the Nexus 7 image back and then re-root and flash my custom ROM again? Sounds like a lot of work!
Edit: The other solution I can think of is to copy and paste the contents of my SD card using my PC, and then delete the two 0 folders. Would that work?

Give your second idea a shot, if it doesn't work then maybe doing a factory reset, wiping everything, flashing PA and restoring your apps via Titanium or whatever. Then just pick media/docs out of your SD backup. If you do need to push a factory image Wug's toolkit is great. That's my two cents, for what they're worth (2ยข).

I just recently got the MyTouch4G, got it permrooted and did a full back up of my sd card to my pc, but it's still on stock rom. I want to flash cyanogen7 but there's a lot of junk on the sd card first
My question is if it is okay to do a full format and if so, any advice on important folders or files I should copy back after the format, apart from the clockwork folder (i know that one is important)

Well do as I do just create a dir called Files and inside it make sub dir's and put all stuff you want in it like aduio, video, photo, ect. Also dont worry about the other folders in your root /sdcard. Far as format goes as you backed it up to your PC just format sdcard and if you missed something it will rebuild itself. Make sure you backed up video/photo whatever if you took any. Usually once you install something that requires you to place elements in the root of your sdcard after its complete always remove it this way you save yourself a lot of headaches later on. I always keep my dir nice and clean old habit of *nix world

Thanks for your response. Just curious but clockwork recovery on Vibrant saves itself as update.zip (if I remember correctly) on the root of the internal sd card. Where does it save recovery on MT4G? I didn't see an update.zip file after flashing recovery. Thanks again for your response

Its saved under /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup you will see the dir with timestamp. Normally I don't waste time backing up as I know what I am doing but if you do want it then go ahead and just mv the dir to your PC temporarily then sync back to sdcard once you are done.
Whatever data is saved even the cache on SD I know so if I find data that is valuable I still mv it to /sdcard/files and redirect that path. This way I have clean data scheme as you don't want 9000 bs on your root directory.

I know where the nandroid backups are stored but what I was wondering about is the actual clockwork recovery that you boot into in order to flash roms, make backups, etc. On Samsung Vibrant, when you go into rom manager and flash recovery, it creates a zip file on the root of your internal sd. When you do this with MT4G, it puts that recovery flash somewhere.

I think CM comes with clockwork rom manager preinstalled. Your recovery won't change when you flash a rom. There's no need to back up recoveries because they're available in rom manager. If you need cw 3.0.0.5 just download the flashable version from the cm7 forum and save it.

Since the mytouch 4g installs some of the apps on the microSD card, does a nandroid backup include those in the system image? Or should I use something like titanium backup for those?

Nandroid will back everything in the system including apps but some data is stored on the sd card as well. My advice is to a nandroid and backup your entire sd card to your pc as well

This is not really in reference to cyanogenmod but any rooted MT4G. When you root your phone you download and install clockwork. From rom manager, you choose ' flash recovery'. You choose your phone from the list and it flashes the recovery image somewhere on your phone. My question was to find out what directory does it flash recovery to and as what the file is called.
I am currently running gorillasens final but this would be the same as any rom here, possibly the exception being cyanogenmod

does your phone still boot up properly without any issues? i'm assuming since you had backups prevoiusly that clockworkmod is already installed on your phone. you can just boot into recovery and make another backup. it isn't necessary to have your original backup.
Maybe a good time for a reminder that SD cards fail and accidents happen. It's always a good idea to periodically copy the entire contents of the SD card, which will include your nandroid backups, to an empty folder on your desktop/laptop. Just be sure and enable viewing of hidden and system files & folders.

I have a rather urgent issue, in which a factory reset wiped my sdcard. First of all, is that normal? This is my first device with no external microsd, and my first time using TWRP. Before, I had been using various versions of Amon-Ra or CWM, and when I factory reset they never wiped the sd card. Next, whether it was normal or not, I need a way to recover my data. I had around 8 gigs in sdcard before it got wiped.
To give you more background info on what was going on, I had a rooted 4.1.2 16GB Nexus, and I decided that I wanted to try PA. I made a nandroid backup of course, and then proceeded to flash the rom. I followed the instructions on the PA thread, first doing a factory reset followed up by the actual flashing, then a wipe of cache/davlik. After I tried the rom out for a few minutes, I noticed that there weren't any redeeming features to make it worth the time-consuming switch from stock to PA, transferring all my data and setting up my settings once more.
I rebooted back into recovery and factory reset again, and then I went to restore and saw that there were no backups. Suspicious, I went to the install menu, and found my entire sdcard folder had been wiped out. What happened?
Edit: I'm currently still on the recovery, afraid to do anything in case I lose my data forever.
Was your boot loader already unlocked or did you unlock it right before you flashed the ROM?

Thanks for the reply, especially on Christmas, but I got around the issue myself. It had been unlocked for 2 months now.
I noticed that every time I booted into recovery, it would make a "0" folder and move the contents of my sdcard into that "0" folder. Then the 0 folder would go inside another 0 folder, and so on and so forth. It was a really strange issue because I was unable to restore my backup; TWRP could not find my /sdcard/TWRP/backup folder, because it did not exist! It was in sdcard/0/0/TWRP/backup. I used the built in file manager in TWRP, and moved the contents back into the proper folder. I could then restore, and now I'm feeling relieved.
However, two issues remain; the 0 folders are still there, and storage transfer speeds seem very slow.
Edit: I got rid of the 0 folders by moving my folders out of them and then deleting the 0 folders, but the size of my files seem to have been inflated. What took up 6 gigs before is now taking up 8.8gb. Lol wut? Also, when I hook it up to a computer it tells me that 12GB has been filled. So many discrepancies.

I am having the same problem. I think everybody has that problem, because it's caused by jelly bean 4.2 and its new emulated storage.
The only way I have found to get arround it was to copy all files on the computer from the sdcard, then formating the sdcard in recouvery and moving everything back.
Only problem I am having right now is that I can't for the love of it copy my files. Stupid MTP filesystem is really buggy and extremly slow. I constantly crashes or gives me multiple erros. The one I am having at the moment is something about a parameter error.
Very annoying the stupid filesystem under 4.2.
Btw. I can't get the adb pull command to work either. When I tell it to copy system/storage/emulated/legacy (I believe thats where the sdcard is actually loccated, right?!) it doesn't copy a single file.
If anybody could help me I would be very greatfull.

I had the same fear, emotion and discovery a week ago when trying a new Rom thanks multi users feature .
You may try to switch from MTP mode to MSC in system setting to increase the speed.
Take care of the different tools because as example JROMFlasher will format the SD card for better cleaning. (I had backup!)
I think I read that the Factory Reset from the settings menu WILL erase everything.
Formatting with ClockworkMod, saves your sdcard files.
I also recommend unlocking asap just for laughs. Even if you don't plan on rooting or Modding... unlocking will ensure your files won't be deleted if you decide to or something happens that requires it

I bought a 8gig n4 in November and got my new 16gig one this morning. I tried restoring the backup on the 16 gig and it was saying checksum mismatch which is what I expected. How do I edit or replace the checksum to make the new phone recognise and install the backup?

Do you have TWRP or CWM? On TWRP you can turn off the MD5 check. I think you can find this in the settings menue

AW: Restore backup on a different device.
Gotta tell you that cwm backups are not compatible with twrp . Hope someone else has an idea for your Problem . But a fresh flash wouldnt be bad too, almost everything is replacable, else you could try pulling stuff out oft your backup.

I've have also changed my 8Gb for a 16Gb. When i had transferred the TWRP backup between the 8 and the 16, I couldn't see it in the 16's TWRP.
My solution is to use Nexus root toolkit 1.6.2 and:
- make a backup (check system apps+data and shared data).
- backup virtual sdcard.
- backup sms call logs contacts.
Finally restore it to the 16Gb.
Maybe you could find another easy method to transfer ^^

So TWRP worked for me. This is what I did.
1. Install TWRP on both devices.
2. On the device you want to backup go to the menu and select backup and remove the option for making an MD5. Also select a name you will remember, I chose nexus.
3. Boot back into the phone and copy the folder TWRP from your sdcard onto your desktop somewhere.
4. On the new device make a backup of any one partition, I used boot.
5. Connect your new device to computer and copy the contents of the TWRP folder into the /sdcard/TWRP/Backups/[your phones serial] so the full path will look like /sdcard/TWRP/Backups/[xxxxxxxxxxx]/nexus
6. Boot into recovery and select restore and navigate to the backup name you selected in my case [nexus]
7. Boot into system as per normal.
8. Enjoy the exact same stuff just on a bigger capacity phone.
9. If you so choose, copy all the contents from the sdcard onto your computer and then copy them to the new device
10. ???
11. Profit

So i have twrp recovery and just flashed a cyanogenmod. Before flashing, i did a back up on sd-card. Now, I want to restore to my original rom and twrp can't find the backup file. I looked in sd storage and there is no folder called twrp, 0 and nothing in data. Anyone can help?
I'm thinking you saved it to your sd-card which is your internal memory and not to your extsd-card which is your removable card. Maybe before flashing cm you wiped your data and erased. In your recovery you want to make sure you change the save path to extsd-card.
