Could it be related to this issue:

If you have plugged your Nexus 7 on a car charger, the usb might be dead and only be used for charging (and so unable to transfer new ROM data).

charging is fine...is it possible that I did not enable usb debugging before i wiped to factory reset that it would prevent me from connecting???

alright heres alil update i tried using WUGS toolkit and trying to unroot everything was going fine until it cannot find the flashstock.bat...now im back to square one. i cant find the flashstock.bat anywhere

I was having the same problem. It would see the camera mode, but not the mtp. I read in another thread to turn off debugging in settings. What do you know. It worked! Computer sees the tablet now just fine.:victory:

[Q] TF101 doesn't connect with PC through USB

Hi guys,
After upgrading to ICS I've been unable to connect my pad to the PC. This is usually not a problem, but last night I needed adb to re-root it. Nothing worked, nothing connected. Tried installing drivers and the Asus sync, but no luck.
Is this a known problem? Anyone got a solution? I doubt it's the hardware as I connected a few days before upgrading...
Found a solution. Went into Settings->Storage and turned MTP off and back on.

THANK YOU! Everytime I plug in my ET4G to the dock to charge it that stupid MTP crap always comes up. Had no idea I could disable it. Thanks!
yeah, this doesn't always help... I had the same problem when i first got my TF101, and i tried all the tricks, the one mentioned here with mtp, enabling and desabling debug mode, turning off and on with usb plugged in, and some others i can't remember... nothing.
In case anyone else is looking for the answer and the quick tips don't work, what did it for me was installing Android Revolution HD rom. I've read that this problem could also be bootloader related.
Anyways, cheers.
How to connect an ICS device to your computer
Step 1. Connect device to computer via USB
Step 2. Set USB connection as Media Device (MTP) (p.s. if you use a Mac you need to download Android File Transfer)
Step 3. Disable USB debugging if enabled
I hope this helped.
when you need turn off MTP it mean your computer doesn't have driver.
If you need using MTP go to asus page and download driver. it's easy to install driver ^^...
recently I can't understand why same file but the computer at my office can't install that file instead other computers working normal... maybe my work place using old windows version...
Like I wrote earlier - mine was actually in MTP mode, but I had to switch to camera mode and back to MTP for it to start working. Thanks for the replies, though. Hopefully it will help some other people with the same problems

[Q] HELP: How to flash Google factory image without USB debugging?

Hey,
i've got a huge problem with my Nexus 7 32 GB 3G. I've had root and i made an update many times without any problem, but once i was making some update of 4.2.2 the device didn't want to turn on and it freezed on Google logo. I tried to do plenty of ways to repair it; unroot, factory reset, wipe... Then i tried to do a flash via Nexus 7 Toolkit, but... there is the problem! How can i do the flash without enabled USB debugging? Is there any way to evade it? Or can I enable USB debugging from my PC for example? HOW??? PLEASE!
Is there anyone who can help me with solving this problem?
Any ideas, recommendations..?
Thank you for all of your responds.:good:
flash a factory image using fastboot...
USB debugging doesn't have anything to do with fast boot mode. Fast boot is the proper way to flash the images.
USB debugging only matters within the booted OS.
You should spend some time learning the right way to do things instead of relying on toolkits.

Hi, BerryRide...
You don't need USB Debugging enabled (as far I'm aware, it's not possible anyway, in FASTBOOT/BOOTLOADER mode)...
Download the factory stock image for your device, from here...
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images.
Shutdown your tablet... and reboot into FASTBOOT/BOOTLOADER mode (Vol Down BUTTON + PowerOn BUTTON)...
Hook your tablet up to your computer, via a USB cable (preferably the USB cable that originally shipped with your tablet)...
And run...
Code:
fastboot devices
This should return a SERIAL NUMBER, indicating you have a FASTBOOT connection, and you can then run whatever FASTBOOT commands you like... including what is in the FLASH-ALL script in the FACTORY STOCK image for your specific device.
Rgrds,
Ged.
Bumping this thread because it just really helped me!!! Thanks @GedBlake!!!!
For the longest time I could never get fastboot or flash-all to work without first enabling USB debugging and much swearing and dealing with permissions. Wound up that my device wasn't getting recognized by Windows at the bootloader. It finally worked after a manual update Device Manager -> Update Drivers using the SDK Manager directory (I subsequently read about in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1583801).
Updating my three Nexii 7 to MRA58V was a breeze this time. Wow- thanks again for the direction.

Cheers mate but yep I tried that and nothing changed
I'm in the same boat. Had this problem for a long while, almost had my guarantee expire so I had it fixed. Not sure what caused it, or what fixed it. But couple of weeks later I was transfering some files through the now working USB port and accidently touched the cable - the device lost connection mid-transfer and since then I was unable to use the USB to transfer files, or connect the device to anything but the charger..
Along comes the 5.1 OTA which I decide to install and mid-install there was an error and the device soft-bricked - I can't boot it, it shows the Android robot with a red traingle and exclamation mark and 'No command.' written under it, at which point it reboots after a couple of minutes.
I can access recovery and fastboot mode and excecuted a factory reset but to no avail. Does anyone know how to fix the USB so that I can reflash stock and make my device work again?
Also, any ideas if one could bypass the use of the USB port in fixing the softbrick would also be helpful.

Nexus 7 2012 No rom, adb or fastboot

Okay so i have a nexus 7 right? yes, but im fairly custom to rooting and all that stuff. Well im not a nub at this stuff but i need help once in a while XD, i just got the thing to turn on again i let it die completely and the charging bug decided that it wouldn't charge. I ended up jump starting the battery and now it turns on but now i plug it in it turns on right? yes it does but now i can get access to any data thats on it. (P.S there isnt any data on it since i had to wipe cyanogenmod 6.0.1 off it) and theres only twrp recovery on the tablet, i can access twrp and the boot loader (unlocked obviously) but i cant access fast boot or push files via adb. The charging port is still good on it i know that we had it tested on a friends tablet and it worked fine. OTG usb doesn't work either i cant seem to get data on the tablet but it turns on when i plug it in, it doesnt charge when plugged into a wall adapter or a pc it just turns on when plugged into a pc. Any and all info is appreciated. (sorry for my spelling errors if there is any, also i am on linux so i dont need drivers as far as i know, i also tried on windows and its a no go the device doesnt show up on either os)
nexus 7 2012 btw

Thanks for the help but sadly ive tried that...
As the device can go into fastboot and twrp with adb and otg without data transfer being possible I'd say most likely the port is broken.
Just to be sure no adb or fastboot commands work at all right? even those which don't transfer files. If they work then your partition layout is messed up which could be fixed

Did you try to charge the N7 via wall adpater or the pc? Did you use the genuine charger that comes with the device? What does it look like when you plug it into your pc? Did it show up as a mtp device (or any kind of device) ?
Try charging the N7 with genuine charger, or via pc. Make sure you install the driver for the N7 (go google it) before plugging in. Judging by your status, it appears that you're having a defective charging port or mainboard. Usually you'll end up sending it to the manufacturer to get them replaced (hope that it won't happen :3 ).
Have you used the push files and adb function on TWRP? To the best of my knowledge, these errors don't come about often in TWRP. If you don't know to use it, look it up on Google or the Xda threads. One more thing, losing fastboot is pretty rare with N7, so if you're not sure whether the fastboot is VANISHED, go to this link: http://forums.androidcentral.com/go...1477-guide-nexus-7-factory-image-restore.html
You can contact me for more insight if all that doesn't satisfy you: [email protected]
Glad that I could help.

usb only charges, no data transfer

my nexus 6 will only charge no data transfer and pc wont recognize it. When i connect it to the pc it goes staright to charge mode and the usb trident symbol doesnt ever appear. In developer options usb configure is stuck in "charge mode" only. Ive tried different roms from pie to mm . i reinstalled bootloader and radio, tried twrp back ups and still the same. Had new charging port put in phone thinking that was the problem but didnt help. Ive searched google but couldnt find anything. Any Ideas, really appreciate it thx
When I installed stock rom which was android 7.1 it changed phone back to encrypted. Now i have to format internal drive in order to install a pie rom. Does anyone think that formatting internal drive might fix problem with not being able to do anything but charge phone from usb port, because if that doesnt fix it there would be no way for me to put any rom on my internal drive to install it.. Does anyone have any suggestions

Just to double check that adb devices shows your serial #. If not, it may be a driver issue.
Computer doesn’t see it, when I enter adb devices it doesn’t show up. Nothing shows up in device manager either: Also when I enter fast boot on the phone “power lower volume button” it says “connect usb data cable” I’ve trued numerous cables that work fine on my other phone. So it’s not the cable. After I plug them into phone it still says connect usb data cable.
I also have a thumb drive with a micro usb connecter that used to work on the phone. Now the phone doesn’t see it when you plug it in to the phone. But it works on my other phone so it’s not the thumb drive

It sounds like a driver problem. Is it a windows PC? Have you tried installing the Google USB driver? I've had similar issues, and reinstalling the driver(s) has worked for me.
It’s windows 10 and I reinstalled driver, other thing is in my car when I plug it in to the usb slot for android auto, it doesn’t show up in my car either and it used too.
It’s like the phone is stuck in charge only mode and I can’t get it out of that

When you connect your other phone to your PC, does its serial # show up in adb devices? If so, I'm out of suggestions.
1 more thing.. Have you enabled USB debugging in Developer Options?
Other phones shows up and in devolpers options in “usb configuration” you can set it to mtp but when you hit enter it goes back to charge only. I was on” aiop 14.0 rom” when it happened but it was working fine on that rom , then one day android auto kept saying connect usb, so when I got home I tried to plug it into pc and nothing. So I replaced charging port thinking that was problem but it didn’t help. Flashed other roms and even went back to stock, reflashed bootloader nothing helped. I was hoping someone here had seen this before cause I googled it and nothing like this could I find

Forget USB configuration for a minute. In developer options, under debugging, USB debugging needs to be enabled.
usb debugging is enable also. even tried turning it off and back on again, didnt help.
you know when you connect phone to pc and you normally see the usb trident symbol on your phone, well when i connect it to the pc i dont see that symbol it just goes straight to charging but even charging i should still see the usb symbol and i dont,
