I've been looking at the threads but so far I don't believe there's one that tells you what to do if you've actually installed the official OTA update?
I.e. I have an rooted 2.3.4 GT-I9023 with an unlocked bootloader. With no clockwork or anything, as to be honest the last time I used it (on my old HTC DHD) it made my phone unstable (the phone would sometimes boot up of its own accord and stop at the clockwork screen).
Does anyone know how to re-root the NS after it's installed the official OTA update without clockwork?
Thanks
Edit: Downloading the OTA update won't relock the boot-loader will it?

You cannot get root back without a custom recovery. OTA will not relock the bootloader, you'll just lose root and custom recovery.
You need to flash custom recovery using fastboot, then flash superuser to get root back. There are plenty of guides in the stickies describing the process.
Ok, so i'm updated to 2.3.6 but of course have lost root (never had CWM to begin with on this phone). Anyone know where I can DL CWM (i'm assuming it needs to be flashed via platform-tools directory in the android sdk per normal) and the latest su file?
EDIT: nvm, I found the latest CWM and successful flashed (my method was correct). However I've not been able to find the latest superuser.zip to flash yet. Also, I don't know why ppl say to use the market as I don't see how that method can work. I've already got superuser installed from before I updated but that doesn't help me get root. Only flashing the zip from recovery (as I understand it) would. Which renders the market useless in this regard.
/confused
The superuser app checks to see if you have the latest superuser binary and will download and instalk it. Or download superuser from within rom manager.

Ok..the binary update fails (because i don't have root) so it's chicken and egg as far as I can tell.
You where already told. Flash custom recovery via fastboot. Boot into it and flash su.zip Same way it was done prior to update to the ota. Same as it always was and will be.

Turns out that CWM got overwritten by stock android recovery. Re-flashing CWM and then flashing su did the trick. I'm rooted once more!
Thanks for your help kind sir!
Curious as to how to make CWM stick for next time tho *shrug*

You're welcome.
If you stick with a stock ROM then recovery will reflash every time you reboot. To prevent this you can go to system>etc, and change the file install-recovery.init to something else like install-recovery.init.bak.
Can you please help me answer how to install OTA updated with CWM installed. I get this error saying the installation aborted .. it boots into CWM
is there any step by step method to get the new update on nexus 4
Thanks
you need stock rom, no modifications made, and stock kernel for it to work
Download and extract the original 4.2 and fastboot flash system system.img and it'll restore all missing apps.. I had to do it earlier to allow the system to install the update

update manually.
So I got my update but it keeps failing during install. I'm rooted and every time the update starts it kicks over to CWM recovery and stops with a message something like, "do you want to install this untrusted zip file" I say yes but it still fails. I have even tried to manually install the update through CWM but that fails too. My N7 is rooted but otherwise stock, I have not removed any stock apps or flashed roms or kernels so WTF must I do???
Did you not read the posts above yours? CWM recovery is not stock.

I don't know where, but I saw a few posts about working updates to 4.2.1 with CWM recovery.
However, I'm not getting it to work.
How do I get rid of the recovery without loosing the root?
If you are on Windows I find the Nexus 4 Toolkit to be super easy to use. I flashed a stock recovery so I could get the update. Unfortunately, I forgot I had made changes to the stock weather widget so I can't apply the update anymore because of a missing geniewidget.odex file.
You will need to be fully stock to get the update to take as posted earlier in this thread. This is a well known requirement when doing OTA

Hey,
got an Error over here with stock recovery and root.
However, tengen says he made it with CWM and root - maybe it's because I'm using stuff like Busybox or the Pimp my Rom APK?
EDIT: I think its because of the %-BatteryMod I'm using. I'll try to flash the custom rom.
Greetings
Hello. I searched the forums and came up empty.
I have a stock 4.2 ROM I rooted. When the system says its updating and rebooting. It kicks me into recovery screen and does not up date.
Do I have to unroot and re lock the boot loader?
I know I'm probably just missing something stupid.
Thanks for any help.
If you were on a custom rom before then your recovery is probably messed up and not the stock recovery. Otherwise I do not know what it is that can be doing it because every time I would flash back to stock 4.2 I would get prompted to update to 4.2.1 and as well to note I have an unlocked bootloader and from what I have read before being rooted shouldnt make a difference.
Perhaps you could grab the toolkit and flash the stock recovery that is in it to your N7 and see if that helps you out.

Crap. I was hoping I didn't have to reflash. I dont have a custom ROM never have. I just unlocked this and rooted.
I'm going to try the toolkit when I get home revert from stock to stock, see if the update takes then.
Thanks for you help.
Edit. Looks like I have twrp recovery. This is my issue I assume. Is there a zip I can just flash to update
I have removed twrp back to stock recovery. Now when system reboots to install update, it stats the update then gives me a error. No error code just error. I really dont want to wipe my device as I have it setup for my liking.
I'm using wug's toolkit
I think (...and may be wrong...), but if you modified anything in /system (deleted any of the stock apps and/or updated them) it won't update either.

I owe u a beer. I did add browser.apk to my system dir. I removed it and now I'm fully updated.
Thank you so much.
root keeper and I'm back in business.
Hey guys,
I am having an issue flashing the stock android 4.2.2, coming from factory 4.2.1 only rooted. I downloaded the factory image from http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/0...us-7-3g-android-4-2-2-update-jdq39-right-now/ when I try to flash the zip file in TWRP i get an error assert failed: apple_patc h_check ("system/app/browserproviderproxy.apk
E: Error in /sdcard/"name of zip file" error flasing zip
the files that it is trying to patch do not exist in the file system. I attempted temp unroot to see if that would do it. The official OTA came through, rebooted recovery but did nothing.
Any suggestions?
Had the same issue with TWRP. With the ClockWorkMod Recovery this part works. If you made any modifikations like camera resolution, enabling of wifi tethering or what else, extract the system.img file from the factory image and flash this first to make sure that you really are on stock 4.2.1 ...
And thats it have fun with the new version 4.2.2
Best regards ...
Ah I did not think of that with the wifi tethering, how do I flash the system.img file, using ADB?

I'm having an issue here as well.
I'm stock, except I did enable wifi tethering.
I can't update via CWM or OTA, because I get an error during the process.
I tried to pull the system folder out of 4.2.1 and flash that through CWM, but I also get an error when it checks the current system.
EDIT: I finally got updated. It was serious scare for a bit though. The toolkit really messed things up at first. I had to flash back to 4.2.1. After using the toolkit and having failed attempt after failed attempt, I realized I had to reflash the stock recovery first. I was then able flash the stock 4.2.1 image, reflash CWM recovery, and use CWM to install the update. There are still things that are screwy, and I've lost root (the root restore app isn't seeing it as being recoverable, but I'm tired and probably missing something). Anyways, most of my data is in tact, aside from a couple odd issues, so the rest I'll deal with tomorrow. The device does feel more responsive, so I suppose it was worth the bother, but I definitely will not be installing that tethering mod again.

now to figure out how to get this to update on my rooted LTE Tablet.....
I'm rooted and just got the update. But haven't completed the update yet as I'm too lazy to reroot.
I tried using the nvidia updater, which failed since it rebooted and CWM had no idea what to do. I made a CWM backup so I am going to see how well it flashes in CWM manually.
I managed to find the OTA download location and have superSU at the ready in my downloads folder in case I have to reflash. the OTA saved as:
/data/data/com.nvidia.ota/files/ROM/shield_tablet_software_upgrade_2.2_-_lte__5.0.1.zip
Someone please report the steps on how to do this for Rooted 2.1.
CWM install zip failed. build fingerprint mismatched, its probably CWM. Will try sideloading stock recovery then installing the zip afterward, I think I remember seeing somewhere here that's how people upgraded rooted devices from 2.0 to 2.1
Omg things seem to be more snappy! The dreaded lag may be gone! I'm not rooted so I did the ota install
I'm really interested in your findings, i need to find a tutorial on how to flash back stock recovery then i can do the update and hopefully reroot.

For rooted users you'll want to use theses.

US Wifi Full:*http://ota.nvidia.com/ota/rom/productionBL-droid-signed-wx_na_wf-full_ota-29979_512.4856.zip
I successfully updated rooted wifi using link
Awsome sounds good. Quick question to get stock recovery back all id have to do is extract the recovery.img file from the ota 2.1 file i downloaded off nvidia's site and load it like i did the CWM recovery from the root thread right?
Or (if you've got root) wait until the full 2.2 .zip is available, then download it and flash it through your custom recovery, followed by the latest SuperSU. (just like the last Lollipop update).
Interestingly, the OTA update tool has an option for "Check full update" (under the top right menu), but it doesn't seem to return anything...yet...

Pretty much you are going
Flash Stock recovery by any preferred method
Flash Update
adb Reflash CWM recovery
Thru recovery flash SuperSU
**Profit**
Working on getting all the files in one package as of right now. Damn internet hogs in my house.
Cant we use Flashify to flash stock recovery and then updating the OTA and then reflash our recoverys and supersu.zip?

You won't be able to successfully flash the UPDATE .zip file (~94MB) on a rooted (read: modified) Lollipop version.
Recovery version is irrelevant.
You need the FULL 2.2 rom (already found above , ~731MB), flash it in your current custom recovery and re-root by flashing SuperSU again.

ok, here's what I dug up. If you are rooted and want it NOW, get to it, otherwise wait for someone to clean up the process:
get the OTA from here: https://forums.geforce.com/default/...hread-released-2-17-15-/post/4464815/#4464815
get your latest SuperSU flashable zip: http://download.chainfire.eu/396/SuperSU/
get your recovery ready for reflashing, the OTA will install the stock recovery again. I went with: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=58864006&postcount=90
boot into recovery and install zip from sideload. then choose either: adb sideload productionBL-droid-signed-wx_na_do-full_ota-29979_512.4856.zip or adb sideload productionBL-droid-signed-wx_na_wf-full_ota-29979_512.4856.zip
reboot and let the upgrade happen, you've lost root and recovery, but you still are unlocked so you just have to reflash them. get into fastboot with power and volume down, then flash recovery: fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.8.5.0-shieldtablet.img
load up recovery and flash the superSU zip and you're back in business.

That means a rooted lollipop user with custom recovery, can download the full ota, and dirty flash it, right?
