Hi guys, how can i set to default lockscreen as holo locker? Like when i CLEAR MEMORY,REBOOT,ETC my lockscreen would be holo locker no matter what i'm doing.
You know what i mean ?
Try converting it as a system app or moving it to internal and see if it reappears after clearing RAM.

Yes, we must edit it for permanent replacement which is hard. But converting to system app or moving it to internal makes the app more stable, while booting or when app is killed etc, apps stored in SD card take more juice and sometimes needed to open manually when its killed.

install by system app installer!
Anyone noticed this problem with Holo Locker? When I leave a task open such as Opera Mobile Browser or Play Store and lock the phone's screen, the task closes. When I unlock it, the task reopens.. ::
Set holo as your default launcher.
Go to launcher setting n thick the 'keep in memory' option

Converting it into system app doesn't solves the issue..
And converting it to system app doesn't makes it more stable guys.. some apps can't work properly if you convert them to system apps.. please don't convert holo locker to system app.. after every reboot it was giving fc message for me.. not that it would happen same to u.. just sharing.. but making app a system app doesn't makes it stable..

It DOES makes it stable. Remember. the android system needs to access the sd card everytime it boots, the holo locker doesnt initate at boot when placed on sd card. Initiating of apps in SD card delay due to media scanner etc. Where as apps @ system app/internal memory are initiated at boot irrespective of anything.
I tested holo locker as a system app and it works. Apps that have libraries files usually gives fc when converted to system app.
Im not saying converting to system app solves the issue. It helps a bit in the correct way.
May be you are right.. that's y I said it might have happened only with me.. but which version were you using? Mine was latest..
Anyway, you have a point.. but it would have problems loading from sdcard if its not meant to be kept in sdcard.. like a force move of app using an app.. but if app has sdcard insta option.. then its written such that it supposed work from there too..?
Correct me if I'm wrong.. but AFAIK making an app system/app.. well doesn't makes it any more stable than it already was.. it will help only when the app was supposed to be installed as system app/ if it was a system app to begin with.. there are some like that.. user apps aren't going to become more stable by making them system apps.. library files depending apps will have problems.. you need to move them to system app library section when you move the app.. then they may work..
Also holo has that issue.. even though I had kept it as system app.. it never came up if I reboot.. only when I open it.. it was activated.. but that was a month back I guess.. I have uninstalled it.. has it improved now?

thanks to your responds bro's !!
i start this question 'cause i want to finish my own theme google nexus 4
As you know, User apps can be 2 types - user apps in internal and user apps in sd card
User apps in internal memory basically perform the same way as system app(though locations are different i.e /data and /system though both are basically phone memory). Basically, internal memory apps are more efficient because the read/write speed in phone memory is always greater and effective than of SD card (even class 10 sd cards). I tend to keep all the running processes in internal memory or as a system app, due to which they takes less battery to run 24x7 and also the execution will be fast. If I place like all the running background apps (I have like 20) in sd card, they tend to take a lot of time @ boot and sometimes used to force reboot due to overload. This shows apps perform better/without much battery usage or reaction time placing on internal memory or as system app.
One basic example, lets suppose we have our samsung stock keyboard(in internal/system app) and swiftkeyx in sd card. Default keyboard is set to Swiftkeyx. once after reboot , samsung keyboard becomes the default one, I was needed to tick the option everytime to make swiftkeyx default @ every boot.
Im assuming the same in terms of lockscreens and hence suggesting it to be placed on internal memory or as a system app.
The best one is to put all holo locker in system.ui and framework...

How ?
The easiest way is to make it system app.
Use root explorer and copy it to system/app, set the permission as r-w-r--r--
Btw what's the problem with holo launcher?

I am talking about the standard Froyo implementation, not a custom one.
I just noticed this. Move an app that has a widget, like Pandora to SD and the widget is no longer available and can't be re-selected. Even moving Pandora back to the phone memory did not restore the widget. Had to uninstall the app and reinstall it back to the phone to get my widget back.
So if an app has a widget that use, can't move that to the SD card...great!
This is a known limitation of the A2SD that Froyo uses. To get the widget back, copy the program to phone memory again and restart the phone.
Yes they even cautioned developers against implementing that feature to apps which have constant background process or widgets.
Anyway you've probably did the 'setInstallLocation' trick to move the app to sd. Which is not recommended if you don't know what apps are perfectly okay to move to sd.
Double post
Actually the Pandora devs have allowed it to be moved to SD. It's probably nice for people who use it without the widget, but they should warn the widget users not to do it.

Personally I like the choice, although perhaps a warning when starting Pandora for the first time when installed on SD would be appropriate.
Ah didn't know that... since I'm not in the US and pandora's only for the US. Oh well.
Google's implementation seems only to fail against the apps2ext version... it seems much better.
I really hope gingerbread copies the separate partiition of cyanogen and just adds encryption.

Astro player is a decent music player from all aspects imo. However I hv been experiencing an issue with its widget for a long time back; it is disappeared after a while and no longer available in widgets at all, untill the next update/version is released. Once you update the app to newer version, it comes with widgets but -as said- the widget is vanished later on. This has happened with the last 3 or 4 updates. Is there anyone else encountered same? Or is it just me who is suffering from that?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Try and check where you have it installed. Any widgets in the external froyo memory vanish after a reboot (the sd gets mounted after the system starts). Go in the installed application list and try to move the music player to the internal memory.
Thanks mate.. the case is exactly as you said. Moving the back to phone internal storage solved the matter with widget. But the size of the app was 1,16 mb when in the sd-card, now 2,69 on phone after moving back. I think I will continue with it in the external storage and suffer from the widget as 1,5 mb diff makes sense.. Thanks again

No problem, glad to have helped.
Just remember that all widgets have this problem if moved to the external memory. Just keep your widgets in internal memory and everythig else in the external.... or just install astro in the external at every reboot (or maybe never reboot )
What ROM are you using? Because with a2sd (old style with ext3 partition) does not have this "widget disappearing" side effect.
Mine is original/official froyo i.e. untouched Desire.

android keep apps in memory that it thinks it will need later, if you don't use a task killer/ battery saver it should keep it in memory.
but many times i want to start go dialer i must wait about 3-5 seconds to open it. and android don't keep it in memory. only say to me is it possible to lock an app in memory or not?
in CM ROMs there is an option to lock home in memory. i want it for any other app such dialer.
sorry for my bad English
bump, I'm looking for this too. The way android manages apps is just terrible.
Use some other rom-etc some new

what ?
well I'm on stock eclair 2.1a and i'm also using go contacts, for me it always remains in memory..
Bump.
I'd like this too.. Using Go apps instead of stock dialer/sms, and I want them to always run!
Basically a startup script to open them in background on boot, then always keep them in memory.
My device has 1 gig of memory, so the 50 meg these apps takes up is a drop in the ocean. Free ram is wasted ram.
We're using a phone, so these should always have priority over anything, games, browser, etc. Currently it seems like they have not.
Please can anybody advice me on this?
Lotsa home apps have keep in memory function, but dialers and sms-apps should have this setting too. Guess I can contact go team to request it..
Yup, I can't believe no one thought of keeping dialers and sms apps in memory. I insist, Android's way of managing apps and killing processes is awful.
Hi all
I am running CM7.1 with LauncherPro.
Thanks to my kids and google's recent $.10 app deals I now have about 200 apps/games on my phone and I ran out of space on my internal so I was using Titanium Backup to move apps to SD in batches of 25-30 apps. I had no problems until the last batch I did. Now the phone freezes up within 5 minutes of booting up and I have to keep popping the battery to reboot.
I figure one of the apps in that last batch has issues being moved to SD. So I want to try just moving them back. Problem is, it doesn't stay usable long enough to get back into TB and move them. Also, I'm not sure which app it is I have to move back. I tried popping out the SD card and putting it in my PC to look at .android_secure and I can see the most recent batch of apps simply by sorting by modified date. The batch I ran was for 29 apps, but this shows only 23 apps. I tried deleting those 23 asec files, but the phone is still freezing after a few minutes up.
I really, really want to avoid going back to a previous nandroid backup because I only make them once a month and the last one was 11/24 and I have made sooo many tweaks and changes since then.
Please help. Is there a log file for TB batches maybe that can help me figure out which is the problem app? Or does it sound like it might be something else?
I'm going through the same problem myself; hoping that pushing this thread back to the top will get a reply from someone.
I didn't realize until reading this that all the moving apps to the sd card which I've done lately may have caused all my recent freezing. I've also lost the homescreen icons on several of my apps.
Is there a rule about what kind of apps shouldn't be put on an sd card?
Do you have the list of apps you moved in the last batch?
Can you post it here?
I know you must not move widget on sdcard. It's a start

No widgets, no services. If any of those are moved to SD card - they won't function in the best case, and they'll make all kinds of phone weirdness in the worst case.
Bump!
This happens to me too on my galaxy s2 stock rom using my 32gb sdcard which has no issues in itself.. and i never moved apps like widgets and live wallpapers, only games with big size like angry birds etc. i dont know what can be causing this, coz without moving those apps i cant install new ones, n if i move em i cant use my phone at all what should i do ?
Yeah, not all widgets work with the app on the SD card.

widgets live wallpapers and launchers aren't meant to be moved in the first place. but still i'm having issues and i dont understand why. and now that i've moved just a few apps to see what happens, this time it doesn't reboot but the media scanning starts late after the phone boots up.. and untill it actually starts scanning you cannot make a call or use the internet.. any ideas anyone! ?
Hello xda forums, I want to ask you about moving apps2sd card. By a little research I have found out that moving apps to sd card is a thing. Now I want to do it but I wont seem to be able to get the option "move app to external drive/usb device" or whatever option. I just want to know how to enable it.. A way of not requiring any computers just doing all by my phone would be great..
Also, if you are going to say "oh, why are you moving your apps to sd card" or anything similar like that, please just dont.. say that to google, not me, I don't care, I have lots of big apps and my storage is full...
Thanks...

1) Open Play Store.
2) Search for Folder Mount.
3) Install app.
4) Upgrade to pro.
5) Use it to move large app data to your external SD and create a symlink in the original location.
I realize that you're actually asking about the native apps to sd ”feature,” but I don't think you quite understand what it actually is and is not. It does move apps to your SD, and that is it- only the .apk is moved. The data, which is why those apps and games are so big, remains on your internal. As such, it does not save you any appreciable space. To do that, you're going to have to use a third party app.

Folder mount didn't really help. What I got to do is to move the whole app, the apk of the app, that can be done using system right? I feel like I should be able to enable it somehow.. Any ideas?
(What I need to do is to move the apk that can be reached via Root Browser, theee are many apks with the size between 30-100 mbs, eventually taking up too much space)
