The idea behind this thread is to have all reviews, opinions and feedback of note users collated under one roof.
This would make things simple for everyone easy to post opinions updates feedback, for those who look upon us before making a purchasing decision easier to find them.
I hope this is not take in a wrong way the whole idea is to get things organize so information is easier to find and not scattered around but not boss around or offend anyone.
I just got my note yesterday and I have to say that it's a pretty amazing and fast piece of tech. I'll come back to edit this review more as I use it (and receive my case so I can use it a little more roughly like I normally do).
So far:
Pros-
Amazingly fast.
No stutters (I had the original Transformer TF101.. which had lags sometimes).
Sound is amazing (why don't other tablets have front speakers?).
Wacom stylus is streets ahead of capacitive crap / sorry adonit jot just doesn't cut it).
Multi-tasking is awesome!
Cons-
S-note is.. underwhelming. (But lecture notes was great!) Seriously wished s-note was better because I kind of like it.
Multi-tasking is limited.. (although we get the Galaxy Note 2's multitasking abilities after we get jb right?)
EDIT:
Just used this for class.. and doodling, amazing! It's like taking notes on paper, without the weight and fuss and ink and ****, and I can copy and paste stuff. Also, I used it in the crapper, and it's amazing for reddit and stuff because it won't crash from loading too many images. But the stylus is freaking fantastic! AHHHh! (BTW, LectureNotes is definitely worth it. I like Papyrus more than it in the beginning because Papyrus was easier to use, but LectureNotes' customizability is waaaaay worth the learning curve.)
This is a general trend because of the aprehensions created by biased reviews people have doubts before purchasing a note but ones they have got one they are happy I have yet to see any one regretting purchasing a note
It is a great devices there is no doubt about it
I do not use S notes so no positive or negative feedback but yes those on JB say there are some improvements on Snote
The multiapps feature is limited and with JB some more apps have been added but again no google native apps have been added but the reason for the limitation is due to the reason that for every app code needs to be added and apps needs to be recompiled the problem is that Samsung cannot control the updates of google apps they are push directly and hence it will be difficult but I think in future as time goes by more and more developers will adapt the feature and so the number of apps with multiview will grow

I still love using my Note 10.1. Its never given me any problems. Its worked well out the box since day one. So much so that I stayed stock and feel no need to root it. Can't wait till we get JB update. I am very tempted to get a Nexus 10 also. Bit I have too many devices as it is. This device performing so well makes it hard to justify getting another android tab. Aside from screen resolution increase and newer/more powerful processor. And HDMI port built onto device..lol
The only improvements that I would make hardware wise, would be screen resolution and more memory. Software changes would be more apps available to be used in multi screen.
Other than that everything else is spot on.
Another victory for Galaxy note 10.1

Here’s yet another blow for Apple, which is embroiled in a multi-billion dollar battle with Samsung.
Consumer Reports, a magazine that reviews consumer products, recently pitched Samsung Galaxy Note, and not the market-dominating iPad, as the most groundbreaking tablet of 2012.
Based on performance and innovation, the magazine noted that “the 10-inch Galaxy Note adds capabilities that no other tablet, not even the Apple iPad, currently offers. An excellent performer overall, it almost matches the superb battery life of the iPad and adds a memory-card slot that its rival lacks.”
Like Us on Facebook
On the design front too, many reviewers feel that the Galaxy Note scores over the third generation of iPad. For instance, the Apple iPad 3 has an all aluminum back and glass front, which makes the device heavy. On the other hand, the Galaxy Note has gone for a plastic construction, which makes it easy to hold for long hours.
But if its style over substance, the iPad 3 is the best choice as it “looks and feels like the premium option,” according to an IBTimes

Until the note 10.1 is used as the reference tablet, or reviewed without comparison to other tablets will be the day. Until that day arrive the iPad is still top dog for most.

Very true. But it's hard because the iPad has been cemented in people's heads as THE tablet. Honestly, most people I know (who aren't tech people, but aren't "stupid, tech-phobes" just refer to all tablets as "iPads" in the same way people refer to tissue as kleenex. I'm not sure how any tablet can get away with not being compared to the iPad unless Apple bankrupts or keeps getting bad publicity (and still, not that much honestly) for suing everyone for everything.
Its a brand preception which was generated we can say the same for Iphone but yet S3 has over taken it, yes all people are not techsavy but most of them understand a difference between Ipad and Note the only reason they buy an Ipad is because of the hype surrounding it again it is a brand which has generated over time and it is a good product there is no denying that
Overtime like things have changed for Iphone it will change of Ipad because Apple has reached its peak and now it will slide down like Apple Samsung is looking towards reaching its peak and after it enjoys its stay over there someone else will do that.
After using the note 10.1 for 3 months, I feel that if you are looking for a generic tablet for media and content consumption, a tablet like iPad or the nexus 10 will be more suitable for you, with higher resolution screen on paper and either same price or cheaper. However if you're looking for true productivity, multitasking and content creation (taking notes, replacing pen and paper for a student), note 10.1 is definitely the best option. Well if you're reading this you're definitely not a generic user or average consumer so you know what to choose I personally have no regrets buying it as a student. Have not touched a pen or paper for very long and my laptopis collecting slightly more dust than ever.
i used my note for like 1 month , i really loved it so much , good screen res , very good smooth , no lag at all
u can hold ur pen and type what u want , multitasking are very poweful
i can play all games , i can play with photoshop
finally all i can say u will hold tablet that makes u dont need a PC
Best Tablet I Have Ever Used
Coming from the Asus Transformer Prime TF201, I have to say, this tablet is amazing. My prime suffered from WiFi, Bluetooth, gps light bleed, and I/O issues, even with sending it to Asus. This tablet fixes all of that and still adds more. I was worried about the screen being small, but I looked at the specs of my Prime to find out they both have the same resolution. This tablet is fast, sleek, and does everything I wanted in a tablet. I would highly recommend this tablet to anyone who wants a productivity device or creative device.
I had to make the hard decision between the Nexus 10 & the Note 10.1. I watch a lot of videos & I love great looking picture quality. The Nexus 10 was the best choice in that department, but it didn't offer much else to me personally right out of the box. The Note 10.1 on the other hand did (especially since I'm a student). After looking at the reviews, I was kind of down on the screen, but I was quite impressed when I actually saw it in the store. The screen is not top of the line, but it's actually quite good. Coming from a long line of AMOLED products, the colours look fantastic. Highly recommend this for students & those who just want their tablets to do more.

This was my deciding factor(along with the fact I had a newegg gift card). The "reviewers" harp on it for having a 1200 x 800 screen, instead of looking at what it offers. I decided to look at amazon reviews which praised the tablet. I also went into the store to check it out to find the screen really beautiful. I would highly recommend someone go into the store and check out tablets instead of reading paid reviewers.
The reviewers have only one major so called flaw by them to work with thats the display so all they do is use it to critized the note and create an impression that it is a bad peice of hardware what is surprising is that for a so called bad device there is only praises from the actual users

They have to find something to grab on to make the device seem worse then the iPad. It is amazing what they say sometimes.
My opinion about note 10.1
I have the impression there is two distinct opinions about the note, i don't know why.
Before i buy the note 10.1 i read a lot of reviews from sites and magazines and so on, and most of all don't give me a good impression of the note 10.1. In general it was a regular tablet.
But in other way when reading the opinion of the users, all of them said wonderful things, some of them already use other tablets like Ipad. And the most important was that they talk about things that i didn't read on the reviews.
One of that things was the S-Pen, yes they talk about it, but, just superficial. I use the pen to do almost everything, write mails, documents, notes, internet.
I can edit photos and videos using software that came installed by root, don't need to buy it. I can make art with it (abstract art because my drawings....). I have real multitask.
I use this tablet for working, not just for read, or using the internet, thats the big diference. Everything i do on a computer i do it here, with a litle bit of practice, but I can do it.
About the display, have anyone already put the note 10.1 side by side with a full HD, my laptop is 17" full hd and i didn't found any diference. Perhaps brightness and colors, but even the same display could appaer different on this aspects, but in the pixels I cannot find.
As you can see i like very much my note 10.1 :good:
Sorry my english, its not my mother language

There seem to be many myths about the Galaxy Note across the internet.
This thread is dedicated to debunked myths, so we don't have to reinvent the wheel when we discover that the Note doesn't have Gorilla Glass or such concerns.
Perhaps the one that amuses / annoys me the most is that the Note was designed specifically for women, as it fits nicely in a purse, but is too big to put in a pocket.
Others,
It's too big to fit in your pocket.
People will think you're a fool holding such a big phone to your ear.
The screen isn't gorilla Glass, (it's only alkali aluminosilicate).
The Pentile screen is inferior(even though it looks gorgeous).
There are masses of Notes with defective screens.
Call quality is poor on all Note phones.
Banding shows on the screen(for every image).
A lot of these myths arise on phone review sites.
I say, hold on before making judgements about the note based on dodgy info.
Myth 1 The Note doesn't have a screen with Gorilla Glass
Although true literally, the type of screen glass is still not known.
However, this review undoes some of the bollocks around this issue:
Samsung Galaxy Nexus uses some type of "fortified glass", after all
Although not about the Note, does anyone seriously think Samsung would skimp on a feature like this?
More on the subject at Android Forums
After a week of owning this phone, the screen on my Note is as pristine as day one. I have yet to get a cover for it.
Can anyone contact corning and confirm if the note using gorilla? Almost all reviews I read swear its gorilla but Samsung website doesn't mention it... they didn't mention it for the s2 as well the only source is the corning website but the list is not updated.

i'll confirm the poor call quality for my galaxy note, probably more to do with software than hardware
my problem is the other person i talk to can barely hear what i'm saying, i've tested it with fring to record my own voice and confirm that i can barely hear the recording
i've upgrade to 2.3.6, the call quality is a bit better but still pretty crap, unlike the galaxy s2, the galaxy note's audio can not be configured with * # * # 197328640 #*#*
so it's not all myths
call quality is fine here. are you using a case that doesnt have a hole for the microphone in the bottom? or do you have any gunk or dust in your microphone?
fits in my pocket just fine, although it does feel odd hold it to my ear. microphone isnt positioned too well for when you hold it to your ear from my experience, but doesnt seem to affect call quality for me.
with this pixel density, you wont notice the weakness of the pentile display unless you look really really close (ie. with magnifying glass). if you use it the way youre meant to use it (with it in your hand and your head more than 20cm away from it), its actually a pretty good display.

The biggest myth is that it's too big and you'll look like a tool making calls on it.
I got used to the size immediately. If anything, it made my regular 3.5" and 4" smartphones look silly with their eeny weeny screens.
Thanks for this thread. I have had the Galaxy Note for a few days now and:
- it is large, but it isn't that big. In any case , it does not feel bulky and fits easily in a shirt pocket or in a trousers' pocket;
- the screen is excellent, and at the end of the day, I do not worry much about the technology used. At my age, I have presbyopia, and I can read easily on the Note without reading glasses and without straining my eyes. This for me is the most valid test;
- I do not have any problems with call quality, whether on calls with my operator or using Skype;
- this device is FAST, compared to all comparable devices I have been in contact with.
In conclusion, it replaces my previous smartphone, a Nokia N900 (that one WAS bulky); my tablet (a Nook Color); my GPS (an old Garmin that lost its way a bit too easily) and possibly my netbook when I am on short travel and do not plan a lot of report-writing.
Not so bad, isn't it?

Thumbs up man for making the change from Nokia to Samsung Android! You'll have plenty of things to celebrate even years after first touch to the device! I'm still finding new and awesome features of Android, (as former Symbian owner...)... Like i have i9000 and had it 13months now and i still have the most awesome experience when i changed to MIUI, feels like almost brandnew quadcore phone. :-D

Generally, I agree - but it's the same with any new device. Lots of anecdotal evidence and complaints when it's launched then things settle down. Personally I've not found any show stoppers with the Note. The display is generally gorgeous, size is not an issue, and performance is good. It wasn't so long ago that PDA's were all the rage (and prompted the likes of this very site to come into existence). When I first visted this site I was using this beast (HTC Wizard):

I think it's great that Samsung has brought back some of that PDA functionality in a form factor that's actually very compact and light.
theres one particular thing that impresses me with the galaxy note and its something that i havent been able to do properly on any of my previous phones.
and that is, my galaxy note seems to have no issues running a 720p video encoded at 60fps with the xvid codec. its sync'd perfectly with no dropped frames as well which is bloody awesome!
my old dual core computer couldnt even play this video at 60fps without stuttering, even with gpu acceleration. so samsung have definitely done something right.
Thanks Jobiza. For the record, since you mentioned Symbian, the Nokia N900 wasn't running Symbian, but Maemo, a Debian-based Linux variant (that was the whole point of the N900 of course).

Well said. Most of what makes up an XDA, (Convergent Digital Assistant), is firmware or rom. They are complex and interaction with other systems is also complex. Because they are firmware driven, they can be modified, fixed, upgraded.
I just see that many posts by new people who have been put off by innacurate negative blogging and reviews and my beef is with these bloggers. I saw this before with the HTC HD2. I would like to restore some balance to information about the Note.

I don't want to dis your experience of call quality issues on your phone. No doubt they happen, but obviously not all Notes have this issue. I saw this review 2 weeks ago and it was not my experience of the Note. Samsung GALAXY Note Review. I have seem lots of anxious questions by new people who seem concerned about buying a dud phone, hence the thread.

Alright man. Enjoy your Galaxy Note, i'm trying to keep hands off Galaxy Note, would be too early for me to upgrade.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda premium
It's too big to fit in your pocket. - I have used larger phones including the Tab 7 and other interesting devices like the JasJar (o2 Executive) - remember those heavy devices running Win Mobile ??? I believe this device fits just right in my hand and is not large. In fact I think it's large for users who have used smaller phones and tiny devices. The form factor according to me is just right !
People will think you're a fool holding such a big phone to your ear. - This is actually a cool way to show off your phone (if you want) or get attention. If you remember the old Nokia Communicators - they were huge and people who saw it would say - that guy / girl is definitely rich or a business person. I think this phone says exactly that all over again ! This is going to be an elite status phone. Move over Galaxy SII, Move over iPhone 4S, Move over Nexus ICS4 ... Move in with the Note and it's future siblings ;-)
The screen isn't gorilla Glass, (it's only alkali aluminosilicate). - No matter what it is - it's touch, clear and displays fantastic.
The Pentile screen is inferior(even though it looks gorgeous). - I dont agree again (I agree its a myth). It looks and works well in every way.
There are masses of Notes with defective screens. - Mass of Notes have not been sold yet. Globals sales are just begninning. Let's re-consider this point around Mid December. On a side "Note" - In fact India alone has not even sold many devices since there are delays on the official sale. Only few cities have started selling and others will join the party over the next few weeks/days.
Call quality is poor on all Note phones. - I think the quality and loudness is alright. I believe there are multiple factors including location and signal strength from the towers as well as the technology being used (processes) in order to get the signal to reach and then be processed. It works just fine here. Perhaps its "the way you are holding your phone"
A lot of these myths arise on phone review sites. - I have not seen many of those reviews. I bet they are with people who dont even have the device or a prototype and perhaps more from people who just bought a new phone or an iPhone and don't want theirs to go un-noticed! Jealousy will rise !
I say, hold on before making judgements about the note based on dodgy info.
-- I agree and add "BE Free, Get a Note"
PS - I'm shifting from the iPhone 4 to the Note. My three options were - iPhone 4S, Galaxy Tab 7 Plus & Galaxy Note.
[/QUOTE]
Camera quality
I've read in one of those reviews (don't remember which one), that camera is average in photo and video, and worst than Galaxy S II. Can somebody tell me if is that true? (another myth to break!)
Thanks!
I think the photos look pretty good for a phone (I am a DSLR enthusiast).
Perhaps it's just being able to see them on a 1280x800 AMOLED!

Awesome!
Good on you for breaking free.
I got my new iPad last week and played with it a ton. I missed my apps for HBO go and brighthouse since i sold my old ipad 1 month ago. Since that time, i've upgraded my tf101 to kang ICS and had to rely on it for the entire month so i got to know it very well. Here are my 2 cents.
design
=====
winner : Transformer: Winner by decision. Compared to the original ipad, it would have lost because of the original one's similar edge feel but signficantly easier to hold form of the ipad 1. But this iPad one is more like a heavier version of the iPad 2. Awkward and gets warm too easy.
Performance
-=======-
winner : Draw. Both are lightning fast. The main reason i sold the ipad 1 was because it was crazy low after the 5.0 update. This is how it was meant to run.
Software O.S.
==========
winner : Transformer : winner by K.O in the 5th. This wasn't even close to me. I've grown to love the ICS so much more than the honeycomb it came with. For me to check email, browse with Dolphin, and print stuff, hands down ICS. Resizable widgets only adds to the K.O. I have my wife's email on a scrollable gmail on half the screen and my email on the other half. Below them are the icons for the various games we use, browser and other apps. Apple O.S. needs an update. It's pretty much had the same O.S. since it debut 6 years ago.
Apps
===
winner : ipad : K.O. in 10 seconds of the 1st round. Not even close really. Facebook works like it should for a tablet, words with friends works great, exclusive ipad apps like hbo go give you hbo access to all its lineup and brighthouse and espn both have amazing apps. Games are so much better too. Real racing 2 looks like Grand Turismo on my PS3.
intangibles
========
winner : Transformer : winner by decision. Could have been an easy win here for the Transformer. Between the keyboard and memory card alone it scores an easy victory. Add the ability to use Clockwork Mod and our great community, and boom goes the dynamite. But ipad 3 game back here with a much better camera from its predecessors, a speaker that packs such a punch, you swear the whole back must be a giant speaker, and the 5.1 update with features which lets you split the keyboard by just pulling them apart as needed. Very close, but transformer does take this, barely.
Screen
=====
winner : ipad : winner by annihilation. What can you say here. My Transformer took a beat-down here. It was the supreme chancellor before the iPad. I thought it looked better than the ipad, ipad 2 and any other comers. But this time around, it got smoked. what made this even more unreal was that the transformer has a 10.1 screen and by all reasonable accounts, looked fine. But after seeing this ipad on a 9 inch screen no less, I now see the future of screens. I never noticed that i did put a little effort into looking at my Transformer screen. But now, when i look at the ipad, it IS like looking at paper, hell maybe better than paper because the lighting is always perfect. You use no facial muscles at all to see this screen. Just amazing. See screen-shots below.

Undecided. The screen and apps pushed the ipad far ahead but the transformer with its exclusive use of widgets, memory card and keyboard stormed back. As i wrote this, i noticed that espn.com was redesigned to take advantage of certain features of ipad 3. It almost looks like an app. with things like this, it's going to be tough for the Transformer.

New iPad screen does look pretty impressive.
Thanks for the comparisons. The screen difference is amazing. Do you think now you got the ipad the transformer will take a back seat? Browsing-wise (speed) is there a difference?? Thanks !
browsing wise it depends on the site. for most sites i'd say the TF101 is still faster, but for ipad optimized site (which there are alot) the ipad is faster.
I'm hoping the Transformer won't get left behind. I'm monitoring the usage. Right now, my 12 year old is hogging up the ipad for games so we are still mostly using the TF101. But my eyes prefer the Ipad.
I was the biggest android fan around forever. I've had android phones on all the carriers. Ever since the g1. I can honestly say with no bias, that android doesn't hold a token to the new ipad. Not even compared to the ipad 2.
I got so sick of the honeycomb/ics apps being stretched out phone apps. The lack of sheer apps ruins it too. Pixelated stretched out phone netflix. So frustrating. I've had almost every tablet on the market, every phone on the market.
Google has a long way to go (and I'm hoping they can do it with their acquisition of Motorola Mobility).
What it boils down to for me is: when I press a button, I want the damn thing to react. So many times I press home and my phone just sits there. Battery pull to follow. Open the camera app. Press shoot. People pose and hold it for a lifetime just to take a picture. EDIT - most frustrating things: Press shoot on the camera, hear the click, and after you lower the camera you get a picture of your feet. Or press click and the flash goes off and the camera gets delayed and you get a picture of a dark room.
When google can get the content down, and get it to work the first time every time, I'll go back to Android tablets. For now I'm Android phone, iOS for tablets.
The iPad3's screen should be compared to the Transformer Infinity's, IMO. The TF101's should only be compared up to iPad2's.
comparing technologies 14 months in distance is like comparing chariots with tanks.

Confused?
OK im a bit confused here? So ur comparing a almost 2 year old original transformer to a brand new ipad? Yet other than screen and maybe websites, its holding its own very well. I say awesome for the transformer. Thats like comparing the ps2 to the ps3 screen 2 yrs later. DUHHH Id like to see the comparision when the new transformer 700 comes out later this year on screen. I love my transformer and even the prime didnt peak my interest enough to move up to it. So ur review even makes my decision to keep the original even better. Instead of like some fools who waste their money on the latest and not even have a clue as to why its better or if it even benefited them. Thx again for the review and heres to the duhhh factor.

where are you guys getting 2 years old? I bought the transformer just before christmas on Black Friday. It was release on April 1st 2011. It's not even a year old.
Please don't exaggerate to make a point, it defeats the whole purpose of a fair comparison.
Technology released within the same year deserves comparison. The ipad 2 can justly be compared as well since it was released before the transformer but within a year as well. The transformer prime can be compared as well.. All 4 models are available to purchase today at a best buy and are similarly priced within $100 of each other.
I would think nobody would replace their TF101 with the TF102 since it only upgrades the CPU/GPU. But I see people willing to upgrade the TF101 to the new ipad so i wanted to give my review of the devices since i happily own both. My review covers apps, O.S., screen, and intangibles as well which don't change between the tf101 and he tf201.
by the way, if you read what i said, this ipad replaced another ipad, not the tf101. we use both in the household as there are 4 of us. we like the ipad for its app exclusives and html5, this was just replacing the 2 year old ipad 1 which was lagging all the time with its limited RAM.
I don't dislike the TF101. I actually love the thing and have no plans to ditch it, just comparing the two.
Edit: Oops.. orateam beat me to the punch I'll just leave my reply here anyway since.. well, I can't be bothered to change it!

I'm confused as well.. The Transformer was released on March 30, 2011.. Making it ALMOST a year old... Where do you get two years from? Gotta love technology time compression.
Now perhaps Asus had the hardware in development for a year prior to the release... but one would have to make the same assumption about apple... So... yeah... let's not get carried away with how "old and busted" the TF101 is.

i just noticed it's out there in the app store, but not compatible with any of my devices. I have the TF101, the htc sensation (tmobile), the Droid RZR (verizon), the Galaxy nexus (verizon), and the nook color.
That's the old one.
I'm interested in the 700 too. Why waste extra CPU/CPU cycles just to run a high resolution on a mobile device because its useless? Unlike PCs the change in resolution is very minor with a tad crisper text. WhooHoo. You don't get more screen space or any real benefit. I'd rather put those powerhouses to work rather then making text a little extra pretty. And of you have to use a microscope to see a difference then its null anyway.
If they would have left out the stupid resolution, the thing would be the next evolution of the iDevice... instead it plays everything the same speed has last years but at a ridiculous resolution.

people will always see what they want to see.
The screen looks a TON better. This is not a small thing. Today's websites are designed around the resolution of 1024x768 running on at least 15" monitors. Our TF101 is a great screen with 10 inches at 1280x800. But the screen is just 10 inches which means you're looking at a screen some 72% smaller than the recommended scree size per resolution for reading text. Great for videos, games, etc, but compressed size for our text reading. What that means is that our resolution should have gone up by the same percentage (72%) to just be as comfortable as a standard 15" monitor.
that's a resolution of 1761x1320. The new TF prime will eclipse that, but the current crop doesn't handle that. the ipad has 2048-by-1536 which is so good , its crazy. Its better than the websites were sized for by a good margin. the text is so clear, that it makes me want to browse sites on the ipad rather than my 1920x1200 monitor at home. Truthfully, we've never seen anything with this resolution before. I find it easier on my eyes than reading the paper, magazines, or anything else. I'm not a big reader because of eye strain, but i think i found something that may allow me to read books for real. I never liked the e-ink or any other tablet for reading before.
look, i'm not looking to sell this device, Apple has enough money and i'm afraid of them taking over the world. I'm just giving my honest opinion and review.
Transformer Infinity. The Prime is 1280x800. The Infinity was announced end of February with a 1920x1200 resolution, but no one cared. Now suddenly 1280x800 is not good enough where some people used to say 1024x768 was good enough versus 1280x800.
Actually, it was around CES in January.

based on what i've seen with the ipad, i will probably upgrade the tf101 to the infinity as long as it's not too expensive. needs to be no more than $499, like the ipad 3. when it slated to come out?
Asus definitely did something right with the tf101, it even looks like the first nexus tablet will be a partnership between these guys and google. All this review does is solidify how good the tf101 really is, almost a year later and it can contend with the new ipad, sure Big Brother has more apps, but how many people stuck with myspace before they finally realized facebook was "the new thing"
Lets be real here the only reason to get an iPad is for the app store to get apps that aren't available for Android. No one is going to be taking pictures of anything with the tablet they're going to look like retards with that huge thing to their head. After a day you'll forget about the screen so do what anyone else with the right mind would do and just return it and buy a refurbished iPad 2 and save a hundred and fifty bucks. Look on the bright side with the iPad 2 you won't have to worry about it heating up so much like the tons of reports on Mac forums and you won't have to deal with the yellow effect that everyone is getting. Just get the iPad 2, it even weighs less and saves you some cash to put into the new Asus Infinity Tablet coming soon.

No thanks. I put more value in the art than the tech. For me its 60/40.
I would pay the extra 100 anytime for this level of quality. Just as I will for the infinity.
I tried to like the Galaxy Note. I really did. However, the size is just to overpowering for me. Plus, I couldn't shake the fact that the GS3 has come out as a more feature-proof device.
When I first got the phone, I was in LOVE, LUST, whatever! However, pulling it out of my purse begin to feel like a chore and the noticeable lag was not something I felt I had to deal with on a $600.00 phone. Now, I know you say, well stall a new launcher/rom. But guys, these treats should ADD to a phone not mask faults/shortcomings.
I have to say, after hearing that the Note II may be a bigger size, I have to wonder what brave soul would carry it? Soon, will be putting Ipads up to our ears!
All in all, I want to say that I have enjoyed the Note forums and have learned soo much. Kudos, to those who LOVE their phones and I wish you a smooth free experience going forward.
P.S. Not looking for a fight, please don't start one. We are entitled to our opinions. That's what makes the world go round
Any Note owners considering the move to the GS3? I'd love to hear from you.
Im sad you feel like that but i guess its personal preference,
For me Ive adapted to the size, at first it was overwhelming but now it feels normal, All other phones feel miniature lol !!
Im also considering the SGS3, but not to replace my Note ! I have 2 lines with my provider and ones almost up, So I think I may get the S3 or hold out for the note2
that being said, Phones are getting bigger and bigger now, The HTC One X is big, Hell even the SGS3 is big !!
I dont make a lot of calls, and when i do i have my head phones / bluetooth headset in, So i rarely need to hold it to my ear.
I love my ''Phablet'' !!!
I could have bought an S3, but I chose the note instead. The S3 has a very slightly better camera sensor and two more cores on a slightly better CPU.
I see the Note's size as a plus, but that's entirely subjective. Both are great devices, and either will serve you well. Sometimes it takes a day or two to really know if you really like a device enough to keep it.
Today I asked a retailer if I could swap my SGN for S3.
I consider moving to S3 because of superbrick bug and screen issues.
But I'm still holding ..... isn't S3 another Samsung phone ?
Little confusion but I'll follow S3 forums and decide.
I was on the.original 5" bandwagon with the sell streak, I have had my note since November and I won't consider anything other than a note 2 for my next device.
There really is no going back from the.functionality of a 5" screen, for me at least.

You are not masking anything..bad choice of words.
Using a better ROM makes the phone faster and a lot smoother. There is no masking involved is all too real and proves that is not a hardware fault.
I do it with every phone and in the case of the NOTE. I am not changing unless it is for a NOTE 2 or similar.

Ever heard of these little battery-powered race cars from some years ago?
You buy one, Car A, and it goes like say, just for the sake of an example, 20mph. You buy another one, Car B, and it goes for 15mph.
Then you get yourself some aftermarket parts - engines, wheels, or whatever, and modified both Car A and Car B and now you're sure they are both in their fastest. After doing that, Car A now goes at 30mph, while Car B goes at 40mph. Car B is faster now even if it was slower to begin with. It had more potential than Car A - but that won't be realized without some effort on your part. Also, it's also useful to note that the manufacturers of these two cars may be different from each other and may also not be expecting what you intend to do modify their cars as well.
Heck, why am I even using toy cars as a comparison? Should've went straight to phone comparisons and the text would've been much shorter. XD
Anyway, I'm assuming you have a Note. Try not to throw it away and just play with it. Maybe you'll find time to like it some day.
This is the best phone i ever had and i don`t feel the need to buy the Galaxy S3.
I`am not realy fond of touchwizz so i am running CM9, the phone is super fast, has no lags and does work as it is supposed to be.
I love the big screen for browsing, games, video`s and photo`s.
I will probably only change for the Note 2 :victory:

Difference of opinion. I stand by my original statement. I even upgraded to ICS and while it made some difference in smoothness, the results were negligible plus it added some problems.
Adding to my original post. I also think the Note is going to become the red-headed step-child now that the GS3 is out. May not be true, but that is my gut feeling. Besides, I bought my note, last week -- Technically, I'm already using outdated equipment. For those who are passed their return windows, the Note is great, but for those who still have time to AT LEAST play with the SG3, I would.

The only my 1 BIG reason getting the Note is S-pen. It really saves my work days apart from other BIG cool features.
If the S-pen means a lots to you then all other smartphones, out there, are being nothing nowadays.
do you really need it?
I'm sensing that you don't need a Note or the S3.
The note is all about utility and function, not form or fashion.
Are you just uncomfortable with not having the latest?
Just how fast/smooth do you need it to be?
If UI speed is your main concern, you need Windows Phone 7.
Looks like you want a WP7 phone like a Lumia 900.

Interesting discussion, and I'd like to post my opinion as well.
What clearly differentiates the Note from other phones is the size. And the pen. I almost forgot about the pen, as I hardly use it. For me, a Note would be equally fine if it came without the pen. Some will disagree here, as they have other usage requirements.
I deliberately chose the Note due to the screen size. I had iphone and other phones, and I use the phone frequently to watch movies and to browse the web during my frequent travels. Having used iphone and others previously, I got more and more depressed with the small screens. I can say that I appreciate the Note's larger screen and its great resultion. It makes these tasks simply more fun.
If someone performs tasks such as phone calls and SMS, the larger screen size does not benefit (much). So appreciation with the phone is releated to its use.
So I believe the phone serves people with certain specific requirements, and other features/functions are then simply less important.
Unfortunately for me, watching movies is somewhat affected by the bad screen gamma as reported at many several in the forum. But I still would not want to change back to a smaller size, as I am not much disturbed by it and I can live with the issue (also because my screen is by far not as bad as what some guys report here).
If I ever (have to) change the phone, I wish it would have the following characteristics:
1. Approx. same screen size, but certainly not smaller
2. No gamma issue / better gamma calibration
3. Better back camera (better sharpness, less distortion, better light sensitivity)
4. Provide root access out of the box (no jailbreak/rooting required)
5. Better battery life of Android OS (probably requires better software programming skills)
Performance-wise, I am totally happy with what I have now, and I am not requiring more CPU cores or higher frequency. My phone has been totally responsive all the time out of the box since November 2011.
I had GB 2.3.5, 2.3.6 and ICS 4.0.3, am now on Paranoid Android 0.4 as I totally disliked the email app in ICS. So the operating system still matters somewhat. So it is good to have a choice here.
The only time I feel that the Note is too big is when I am in "dangerous" zones in the city where people could snatch your phone anytime! I mean if you take out a smaller phone, it would probably go unnoticed at 60% of times, but with the Note out in your hands, this huge beast will surely attracts everyone's attention in 99% rate!
Otherwise, I never encountered any so called problems that many people are complaining about!
Some adapt to Note's size, some don't. Good thing is that we have a choice. I'm really against Apple-like "one size fits all" philosophy.
from a gamer's perspective i say : f*ck all other phones, the screen is just perfect for my taste.
I'm reading opinions on the internet, watching reviews, tests, comparisons between new Note tablet and iPad Air but I still cant decide which device choose. I'm android user, Id rather buy android tablet than iOS but many many opinions on youtube and xda also says that Note has lags and device is very slow.. I know that there is S pen and its unique functionality on tablets market but it's not important thing to me, even if i would fall in love with stylus. For me most important is smoothness. So iPad is great because of smooth experience, and great tablet-optimized apps (design also is great but it doesn't matter). Note has SD slot and android so there would be easy to share files between my devices (i'm using Galaxy S4). I would stand every inconvenience of android if the tablet wasn't laggy and slow. There is many people who has Air and returned it to get Note and it would be great if they join discussion.
Hello Patroy,
I have been an apple fan for a long time but when I got my iPhone 5S I was really angry at how crap the phone and OS was. I'm giving my girlfriend my iPad 4 and staying with android now. I looked on youtube and there wasn't too many videos relating to the note 10.1 2014, so I decided to make some.
iPhone 5S(IOS7) and why I am switching to Android:
TL;DR: iPhone 5S was a huge letdown and IOS7 is baaaad.
Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 First impressions:
TL;DR: Note 10.1 2014 is pretty lag free and performs better than the iPhone 5S/iPad4.
I'm also recording some new videos relating to Touchwiz, Optimizations, IOS7vsAndroid,Apps, Games, etc. If there is a video you would like me to make, feel free to ask.
edit: Benchmarks are done. 10.1 = 2x better than iPad 4 and equal to iPad air. 10.1 wins overall. Video will be up in an hour or 2.
But i cant see if something runs smooth or not, because of low FPS rate in your video camera..
After performing all of the updates, the only lag I experience is the wakeup lag in the lock screen. I'm sure this can be fixed by installing some custom Roms that will come available soon.everything else is extremly smooth unlike other galaxy devices I have used in the past

l don t want to ruin Surprise , but the Galaxy 10.1 has the least lag. Far less laggy than the A7 in iPhone 5 (same specs as ipad air). This 10.1 is literallhnearly completely lag free, unlike ios7. Looking forward to showing the benchmark video whe its finished rendering.

But what benchmarks means? Nothing... There was thread, where someones couldn't turn high quality textures in some racing game on 10.1, because of the app which is not optimized for that tablet and that resolution. I would be pleased if someone will show me video with software tour where there won't be any lags or slowdowns

Im not talking about just benchmarks. The UI and everything is more fluid. Higher FPS and definitely smoother than ios7. The reason that racing game couldn't go high was because the developer didnt know such a bigh resolution device existed and is being sorted now so we can play highest in the next update. I have played Dead Trigger 2 and Real Racing 3 and they both look better o tbis tabket because of the higher resolution and some ga es have better effects. I wish my camera wasnt so bad because there is no lag or slowdowns.
On the ipad we saw a game benchmark where the game was getting 7fps at times on the ipad 4 (iphone 5s/ipad air around 13fps) and o the tab the lowest fps it got to was 17fps and that was very very rare. The lag was noticable on my iphone 5s and very rareoy happened on this tab.
That's interesting, i REALLY want an android tablet.. its so hard to decide without touching it in real

I have a 3rd gen I pad because back then everything offered by Android was pretty much beta. Went and bought an I pad air few weeks ago played with but it bored me to hell.. no innovation on apples part. Went and bought a note 10.1 and wow the device actually feels like a step forward. I haven't been able to put it down. Learning all the little tips/tricks is actually enjoyable. The spen really comes in handy and the multi tasking windows beats all. Sure it has a little lag here in there but nothing that keeps you from doing some thing. The Air would just crash the app and i think it has something to do with the 1 gig of memory off loading. Anyways yes the air has better battery life but note can still do 10 hours np. My air is going back.
Go into a electronic shop and play with the Note 10.1 for 10mins then go do the same with the Ipad Air. I bet you will get bored of the Air straightaway...Apple is just soo boring now.
I used to love Apple ages ago because they truely kicked started Smartphones and Tablets and they were the best in my eyes. But now I find them soo boring and android phones and tablets have not only caught uo but passed Apple. Each to their own i guess...If you still prefer the Air after playing with both well then you know which one to buy.
My Note hasnt been laggy once and I havent had issues that some claim. And I'm like you, i didnt really care for the spen much but i find myself using it more and more...Truley awesome.
Eitherway they are both great products when you really think about it, just the Note is Miles Miles better
I was searching for note in electronic shop but i couldn't find them anywhere, I was playing with the Air and I agree with you its booring and after 15 mins of using it i figured out that I know everything about this os but i was thinking there is nothing better than the ipad now. My first plan was buying nexus 10 2013 but id turned out that N10 2013 doesn't exist...

The only time I really experienced lag with my Note 10.1 2014 edition was when I first got mine, but I had pre-ordered so I got it the day of release. . The lag was definitely a software issue but all new products have some sorts of issues but they get fixed fairly quickly. After about a week give or take Samsung released an update which helped speed things up. Later after that they released another update to smooth things out further. Currently, my Note runs perfectly; very smooth and fast. I can't really speak on the Ipad's part, as I have not owned one.

The iPad Air does a fraction of what the N10.1-14 does functionally. Strip out simple multitasking, multiview, S Pen, and all the other creation features and the N10.1-14 would be equally fluid. Android as an OS is just as fluid as iOS in AOSP form. That is until you start adding in tons of apps and syncs that create open threads and consume resources which the N10.1-14 has tons of to power its features. So people have a choice - limited functionality and completely smooth transitions or tons of functionality, true multitasking, and, in the N10.1-14's case, the best creation and productivity tool on the planet and deal with the occasional millisecond long stutter. I choose the latter and don't feel the N10.1-14 lags in any noticeable or chronic way. People looking for a pretty display to read, browse, and consume media probably should buy an iPad; that's who they are made for.

Just go into best buy or frys and play with it for a while. Nobody here is going to have the same opinion as you will on how "laggy" the tablet is.
Not that i dont enjoy the discussion but at this point, we have given you our opinion, so all that's left is to try it.
Another option is to just buy it on Amazon, if you dont like it, then return it.

I have both, got my note 10.1 yesterday. Both have their pros and cons and I honestly enjoy using both. My note is the Wi-Fi octa core version, I wish it had the Snapdragon 800 instead.
I'd say the screens are almost equal, maybe a slight edge to the iPad. Audio quality threw headphones is pretty much even, the iPad speakers are better.
Hopefully the dev support will pick up for the note. I'd love to have cm 11 on this.

iLagPad Air is a POS. Don't listen to people and the hype but actually try one yourself. This is what I notice right away within the first 5 minutes:
- Two types of Safari browser lag.
- First type is jello, flag or wave effect. Hold the iLagPad in portrait orientation, browse to The Verge (just as an example although I don't recommend that site as they lick Apple sponsor's nuts and will filter any negative facts) in full desktop mode, scroll up and down casually, look at the horizontal edges of the big page wide blocks where it suffers from the wavy flaggy jello effect because the GPU can't keep up with the resolution.
- Second type appears to be vsync which makes vertical scrolling look consistent but slow at about 20fps. For example, vertically flick scroll through The Verge's main page in full desktop mode as quickly as you can from top to bottom. It takes about 3 seconds. Do the same on a Note 3 with the current version of Chrome and it's about one second.
With extended use you'll run into more serious issues like blue screen of death and low memory crashes:

Those links were interesting; especially the low memory one. I don't follow Apple products and just assume from reviews they are "utopianly perfect." I guess the grass really isn't greener on the other side, just "different."
I have had my Edge for a few days, and I may change my mind on a few aspects, but this is what I feel at the moment.
What has stood out so far is:
The cost. I am happy to pay a fair amount for my technology, but this phone is very expensive. This alone will ensure that this will remain a niche device. Maybe Samsung see it as a prototype for the allegedly forthcoming Galaxy S6 and are more interested in the response to it than sales.
The battery. It leaks power at a rate I haven't come across before. Which makes it very fortunate that it charges so very quickly - and that it has the ultimate power saving mode. I would really rather not have to use my phone in black and white though.
The curve. This is, of course, what makes it unique. It feels and looks wonderful and is very well made. Handing it around to some friends today, they were all very impressed. It makes accessing my apps very easy, but I'm note sure that it is a life changer when compared to accessing them from the regular screen(s). I'm not going to call it an edge, because that would demean it as it is a beautifully manufactured curve. It really ought to be called the Note Curve.
I really can't see what I should be doing with S pen. I have googled it and no one else seems to know either, so I suppose it will have to make do as an adequate tea stirrer.
The screen is simply gorgeous. The size of the phone fits well in my large hand. I am ostensibly left handed (there are several things I do right handed), and hold my Edge in my right hand. Accessing the edge strips seems natural and easy. Contrary to some reviews, having the wake up button at the top doesn't seem problematical to me.
Overall it works very well, and is very appealing to use. It is exciting in the way that, say, the S5 never was. But at that price, it really should be.
Omg. Don't know what to do with the S Pen? Fair enough, but I make business notes most days with my S Pen. Wacom digitisers are not new so can't believe you can't find YouTube video on what to use stylus for.
Do you find it easier to make handwritten notes rather than to type them or say them? Do you use the pen for anything else?
I'm using out of the box unmodified Note Edge and battery life is comparable with the Note 4 which is to say it's great
What Widgets are you running? Do you use the phone in a bad signal area?

Notes includes diagrams. Difficult to do ad hoc mind maps with a keyboard. Not acceptable to make notes in a meeting with voice input. I use hand written input some times for short entries and some times keyboard. I also have the Note 10.1 2014 and can sync notes with OneNote.

The only widget I use is a weather one. My signal is OK.
Lol at tea stirrer. Give the s pen a chance it might hook you lol
Yes, I have only had it for a few days. I have found I can do the most amazing Islamic type of calligraphy with it, though. I can see the use that jah has for it when it comes to diagrams. But I was serious about Google: try something like 'what to use the S pen for', and virtually nothing relevant comes up.
My first search came up with this:

The first one has one short tip on how to configure it, the second one again has one tip for the pen. The third - the video - is pretty much what I have been looking for. Thank you.
IMO, I think many make the mistake of purchasing a Note smartphone w /o keeping in mind that its design is moreso catered for those who know how to utilize the Spen i.e. note taking in meetings, journalism, school, etc. It appears to me that many will buy or have bought this model only for the performance and size, and the Spen will only be regarded as an extra accessory rather than an integral part of ones need with this phone. For me, I bought this phone knowing exactly how the Spen could become useful for my everyday needs. Therefore I find myself using it practically everyday.

If pens were more mainstream I think most people would buy a phone that has one. If people take an hour to see what the pen can accomplish then it would make more sense to them as to why these phones are far superior to other phablets. Most people don't need the pen, but for me it is invaluable for work. It makes excel file editing far easier. That's the majority of my use. I also use it on my 12.2.
I have the iPhone 6 Plus as well for a personal phone and it is fairly useless for what i need. Once we have profiles in 5.0 I will sell the 6 Plus. I don't want to have to use Knox or Private Mode to seperate my work and play phones.
I agree!
I use my pen all the time... Notes for class, phone numbers for study groups, writing on photos of items for sale, clipping images off websites to put in my scrapbook and notes, research I've done while waiting for the kids. I could go on and on but there are many different ways to use the pen. I haven't used the power save mode too much because I have been having great battery life like my Note 3. The edge screen has been very helpful switching between apps, I was working on something else, a quick thumb tap and I'm on top of things that needed my attention, quickly. Multitasking made easy. Oh and Office 360 works like a champ on here. Keep on messing with it, you will be addicted soon.
Penabled
Im used to penabled tablets and used to making notes. I have a pen since the note 2 but it is not as usefull al on en full tablet. No place to lay your hand down, so note functionality is limited in my opinoin. I bought the phone for the size, speed and unique formfactor.
lol. Ive previously owned three note devices and despite being a heavy phone user never used the S pen.
Never thought about using it as a tea stirrer
I like note 4 edge. But im using note 4 by Exynox. How do to it alike note 4 edge. Im in vietnamese and i waiting for next of Note 4. I very like Spen on Note 4. Anyone can help me to root Galaxy Note 4 Exynox? Its coming

For me, I like having all my frequently used icons, notifications, S Health results and appointments all in place. It's not like life changing, but it looks great and it's very nice to use.
But - the more I use this phone, the more I like it. The quality of the screen is amazing; the colours and the crispness really leap out. I've got the Flip case, and it integrates with the phone beautifully. I really like the feel and use of it.
I like the idea of using it as a tea stirrer. I don't use it much, because my handwriting is atrocious!! Battery life is ok, to me not much different than any large smartphone I have owned. Key is to go through the App Manager and disable anything you are not going to use. My biggest drainer was the S-Health. I don't need my phone telling me I walk 3 to 5 miles a day at work. So once that was disabled, and a few other items I don't use, my battery life went from 20% left when I leave work, to 55%. And I use live wallpaper too. I don't gimp my phone, but I do shut off stuff I don't use.
