My Shift has been liberated for a long time. Usbtool to connect to Vista, has worked the whole time. Since about 1 month the Usbtool starts, but does not connect with Vista.
I think maybe a Vista hotfix has disabled the Usbtool.
Has this happened for anyone else?
Reinstall Windows Mobile Center?
"Reinstall WMDC"
Thanks for your reply. I will give it a try.
"Reinstall WMDC"... Services Usbtool depend on?
WMDC works as it should when I connect other WM devices to Shift via Usb & bluetooth. It's the connection from the liberated WM-side via Usbtool to Vista (never install any other OS) that does not connect.
Could it be a service (services.msc) related problem? Which services must be started for Usbtool to function?

hi everyone,
i have an artemis (mobile5) and the OS in my computer is VISTA, i tried to install activesync 4.5 but it told me cannot run on this computer, i downloaded the activesync for vista from microsoft website, but nothing....
Please if anyone know how to sync, send me a message
thank you in advance
I don't use Vista, but I think you should try Windows Mobile Device Center which is designed for replacing ActiveSync in Windows Vista.
Hmmmm yes if you have Vista, like I do, then it's not Activesync, but Windows Mobile Device Centre. Have you downloaded this?
When connecting my Artemis to Vista, it connects, but then takes a good 30 seconds before it begins synicing, but then completes very quickly.
If you have WMDC, what firewall are you using? Is WMDC and Sync Centre blocked?
thank you for your help, i already have wmdc but i think the problem is from the firewall, i sould disable it . i will try when i arrive home. thank you very much
anoir - have you now resolved this?
my vista notebook does not sync with my p3300!
no reaction at all from windows mobile device center!
try go to settings - connections -USB to PC and uncheck "enable advanced network functionality"
this worked for me. started to sync after 10 sec
Thank you did the trick
Hello,
I'm trying to connect my htc tytn (official htc wm6 rom) to my pc (vista ultimate sp1, wmdc 6.1, all fully updated), but fail to get the usb connection to work.
In the device manager, a device called "Windows mobile remote adapter" is added, but it carries an exclamation mark. The message is that the driver failed to load for this device (so wmdc never even gets to see the device).
Following what I found on the forum, I tried to disable the "advanced network" in the "usb to pc" section of the communications settings of the tytn. I can uncheck the box, but when I click OK it just reports: "failed to unload rndis to use serial connection"; next time is it checked again.
A bluetooth connection to synchronize with my vista works flawless.
How can I get the usb to work?
(I've tried everything apart from hard resetting the phone, but that is my last resort as it takes some time to configure it completely)
Thanks!
Jörg
Hi everybody,
I have Shift CDMA with Windows XP (it works perefect). But I can not to connect SnapVue part of the Shift with WinXP. When I go to Programs - Internet Sharing, and push Connect button, nothing happens on XP side (latest ActiveSync in installed), and on SnapVue side I have an message 'the remote party has ended the connection". Could anybody advice me? Thanks.
U used USBTool to connect the Windows side to the Snapvue side ?
Else it always says not connected
I can not run USBTool because I can not copy it to WinMo side.
Have you tried emailing to yourself and picking up that email on the WinMo side? Or go to http://tinyurl.com/5wwrpn (modaco.com) as suggested elsewhere on this site and he'll email it to you
It's easy when you know how!
The problem is I have no working radio on it (my shift is CDMA, and there is no such provider in Russia )
Hi - will i encounter any issues if i connect at work via one means (XP) and at home (vista) by the other?
sorry if its a dumb question.
Hi,
I use this config on a daily basis: XP in the office and Vista at home.
So far no problems....

When you connect at work with Active Sync 4.5 on XP you can connect without syncing mail etc.
I do it to just to transfer files.
I've searched for related topics, but none are quite on point.
The following works for XP, but not for Vista, and I cannot figure out why.
(Note: I have the unlimited data plan, please use with caution if
you do not have the plan).
I am using AT&T as my carrier.
Using CeRegEditor, I performed the following on my Motorola Q 9h global device running WM 6.1, USB connector is connected from phone to PC:
1) changed HKLM\Comm\InternetSharing\Settings = "ForceCellConnection"
to "" and rebooted
2) In HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers\{7C4B7A38-5FF7-4...}\Connections,
changed ATT ICS and MEdia Net "ReadOnly" value from 1 to 0
On the phone itself, I then selected Start->Settings->Internet Sharing:
PC Connection = USB
Network Connection = MEdia Net
After issuing "Connect" on the phone, I have internet access when the phone
is connected via USB cable to the Windows XP PC, but not when connected via USB cable to the Vista PC.
====
I have tried Bluetooth instead of USB when connecting to Vista, to no avail.
I have tried to obtain a new IP address for the USB connection, to no avail.
I disabled Norton firewall, to no avail.
I disabled the wireless card I installed last year when my internet
connection was DSL with a wireless access point, to no avail.
The phone connects ("syncs") fine with both PCs. On XP, the application is called 'Microsoft ActiveSync', and on Vista, 'Windows Mobile Device Center'.
I appreciate any advice you have.
It should work. I am using Vista SP1 and a WM 6.1 cooked HP 614c. Even managed to use the data connection in a virtual machine running on the same system. As soon as you hit ´Connect´ the sync session gets disconnection (status in Device Center is disconnected). Then Vista should detect a new connection called Remote NDIS based Internet Sharing Device. When running it for the first time, a driver will be installed. After that it detects a new network which you can setup using the Network Center. Did this happen in your case?
Hey duckyman, thanks for responding. I do see the 'Remote NDIS based Internet Sharing Device' on the Network and Sharing center, but the connection is listed as 'local'.
I did notice that once you hit 'connect' on the phone that the WM Device Center application on the PC lists the connection as no longer connected.
This is normal behavior, however, as the same thing happens on Win Xp with the corresponding 'Active Sync' application, and the XP connection works for me.
I think the problem is with Vista. I will try one more time with Bluetooth instead, I noticed that under 'Bluetooth Settinngs' on the phone that though I had enable bluetooth, I did not check the box "Allow other Bluetooth devices to see this phone".

It works perfect on Vista and win 7
