How to over clock defy plus ? - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have rooted my defy plus and installed custom ROM jellybean but can't over clock with any app milestone app works with the old defy but not with defy + can any one help me . Thanks in advance

If you boot the phone, you'll get a blue light (I think) then you need to push vol- (again I think) to get in too the bootmenu (from where you also go to the custom recovery to flash a rom). In the bootmenu you should have options to change the frequencies and Vsel's.
In my opinion the default setting off the latest CM10 rom from Quarx are good. If you go any higher, your phone will get very hot. On 1000Hz it's already hot (espesialy if you're also a heavy Data user).
Of course you are free to experiment with it.

How far I can overclock it ?

YOU SHOULD CLOCK IT TO SOMETHING BETWEEN 1.1 GHZ - 1.3 GHZ ANYTHING ABOVE THIS COULD MAKE YOUR DEFY UNSTABLE AND CONSUME A LOT OF BATTERY , I PREFER IT TO KEEP AT 1.1 GHZ

I would advice using quarx's version of cm7 which is more stable than the official stable.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1065798 has been very helpfull to me for all the basic stuff, and the latest version of quarx's cm7.1 is available here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1033654

Is it hapening due to less sd card free space?
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App
Propably yes. You need about 200~500mb depending on the amount of apps.
Also have a look at Titanium Backup. That app is used to migrate your apps to your new rom. For example for savings with games...

[Q] overclock with stock rom[solved]

I have rooted my Defy+ with BL7, installed 2nd init, and I have tried to overclock to 1.2 GHz but every app shows 1.0 GHz.
It is possible to overclock with stock ROM DFP-231?
I HAVE INSTALLED THE ZIP FILE FROM THIS SITE IN CWM-RECOVERY
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/43690836/Android Public/Multiboot/bm_cwm_mb_v0.8-signed.zip
AND AFTER THIS SETVSEL WAS WORKING.
IS INSTALLING ALL THIS STUFF:
- Touch BootMenu v2.0.0
- TWRP 2.1.1 for Motorola Defy (Stable recovery)
– CWM v5.0.6 – jordan (Custom)
- Multiboot script v0.5.5
- Multiboot binary v0.1
- Defy Overclock (default settings: 1GHz, 600MHz and 300MHz).
Or see this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25479166&postcount=16203

It shouldn't be a problem. Be sure that overclock status in a bootmenu is enabled and that you save your changes before you leave this menu and reboot.
I have installed even the latest cm9 as multiboot from quarx2k but the rom shows Max freq. 1000mhz (in 2nd init I have 1200mhz).

If you want to do it, you need more power. Increase Vsel (guessing it's vsel4) @ 1200mhz to 68 but never go above 70.
How can i add the vsel4 because i have in 2nd init only 3 vsel

Doesn't really matter if you have 3 or 4 vsel's. If you've changed Clk3 to 1200mhz then you should increase voltage of vsel3 to 68. For more info on this see this blog
I have installed Setvsel but when I open it the phone keeps restarting. It seems to me that overclock does not work with defy+ stock ROM. Am I wrong?
Sent from my MB526 using XDA
first install motorola overclock and load module and then use setcpu to change the frequency...this solution worked for many..
if ur phone keeps restarting that means that the voltage is very low..change the voltage first in bootmenu and then try to open setcpu..
hope it works

Modded 1.2 kernel

I haven't realy seen a modded one except for ezterrys and that dosnt really oc past 614mhz I tried the 32b one but my usb connect and teathind failed so I was just asking for some suggestions
Sent from my HTC Magic using xda app-developers app
If you want, on my ics thread there's my build of ezterry's kernel. It has patches for ics (which shouldn't affect anything on previous versions I hope...) and overclocking to 710mhz and other stuff..
I know but when I ysed it no usb connect via rom only recovery could u fix
Sent from my HTC Magic using xda app-developers app
what rom are you using? if youre on froyo and earlier, you need a froyo kernel. gingerbread and later need a gb one. ezterry's ezgb kernel has a froyo and gb version.
I know but thing is I want one with the 710 oc when I was useing your rom I had that oc but no usb connect via rom...the one ezz made has the ram hack but not past 614 oc

That's normal for 32B devices Some phones won't even go up to 595mhz without crashing..

Defy (red lense) kernel?

I installed Epsylon3's "[ICS] CM9.1 Android 4.0.4 for the Defy - now with 2ndboot kernels" and i was wondering what kernel should i install:
kernel-froyo-222-179-4-signed.zip or kernel-gb-234-451-134-signed.zip?
And another problem: after installing the ICS my battery drains very quickly. What shall i do? Install the "ICS Defy Red Lense Battery fix"?
Try the battery fix. The 2nd boot kernel will be fine otherwise I'd use the gingerbread or defy green froyo kernel.

i will try the fix. what kernel do you have? i'd like to install the GB version, but i don't want to have problems. i read a lot on the forum and i understood that the GB is compatible with my Defy (red lens), but what are the advantages? will it work better?
I'm using GB kernel from fixed sbf and using CM7 (maniac) and it seems a little smoother than froyo kernel. *green soc defy*
Defy red lense is basically a defy+ with a 800MHz clock speed and a smaller battery. The RL defy can use the camera on stock gb builds.
