I currently flashed the Acer_A500 OTA 7.006.01 [HC 3.2] Rooted w/ Busybox for CWR [Sep 17th, 2011] Rom by ezterry.
The ROM is awesome but the only thing I had trouble with was fixing the adhoc wifi support. I tried to replace the wpa_supplicant file with the one that contains the fix for adhoc support but it messed up wifi all together. Even when I tried to restore the original wpa_supplicant file the wifi still gave me an error when trying to connect. I had to Reflash the ROM to fix it.
Any ideas on fixing adhoc support for this Honeycomb 3.2 based ROM?
This is silly, but I don’t have permissions to post to the development thread, so would someone be willing to post this there on my behalf? I am not a novice at this, but XDA won’t allow me to post to developer threads until I have at least 10 posts.
Thanks.
You need to give the file the right permissions rw-r--r-- that's why it failed when you restored the original.
I thought I checked that, but maybe I looked at the permissions of the file in my backup folder. Thanks, this will save me some work if I decide to try it again.

Actually, your suggestion led me to fix the problem. My replacement wpa_supplicant to enable adhoc does work if I set the permissions correctly.
The correct permissions are rwx r-x r-x.
Now my ROM is perfect.
Thanks.
Hi!
I've a rollback file on my Kindle currently waiting for downgrading.
The file just popped in and waiting that I'll charge my kindle.
Is there anything I can do for the community to support with information and/or files?
I am on stock 4.5.2 with, of course, no root.
Cheers

Well I will be first to thanks for offering to help mate as not much happening with a root at the moment so well done for coming forward ...

Correct! I can read and(!) follow
open rOM Toolbox, scroll right to build.prop Editer and open
Scroll left and create backup
---------- Post added at 02:57 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:55 PM ----------
now open root explorer or file explorer
go to SD card rOM Toolbox build.prop backup file and insert the file that you downloaded
---------- Post added at 03:02 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:57 PM ----------
now go back to backup and restore in rOM Toolbox for build.prop and restore the file that you downloaded here's where it gets hairy
whatever you do do not let it try to install whatever it downloads if you keep touching and using the tablet it will not attempt it on its own it must be at idle.after you reboot go to settings and check version number it should have the new build.prop file and check for updates. I'm hoping it will attempt to redownload the downgrade file to cashe then you must immediately remove it from device and delete that ROM slot.
it may not even like the swap and not even boot in that case that's why we had safestrap installed. It will not work just delete the slot and move on with life
Ok! Did that, installed the downloaded file and did a reboout.
System works, but no text is visible, only icons.
Next to ask for a update? But how as i can't read anything...

Done! Back in business
now it doesn't really matter how you want to try to do it but what we need to do is edit your file to accommodate the newer version numbers
you can either go to those backup files and swap their and restore again or use the backup file for reference and do it line by line in the prop build editor

Hi,
I've modified original system.img file by adding su binaries and SuperSU apk.
I't the S118 ROM from this link, all the procedures are exactly the same as described here by mr.mrcn:

There were problems with the installation or not?
Are you satisfied with your phone with this firmware!

No, this way you cannot do it. Update from sd card is possible only with original update files which are digitally signed by lenovo. If something is modified (added root in this case) in such package the update is not possible. But you can still flash it with miflash application.

No, i think that it's available only via OTA update, so it's without root so it can't be downloaded from the phone for rooting purposes.
Besides my Z90-z is bricked now so i'm not able to work on it.

I was basing on this book: http://eu.wiley.com/WileyCDA/WileyTitle/productCd-111860864X.html
And chinese rooted ROM.
The problem was to join this system_1.img system_2.img and so on files into one correct system.img file to be mounted as ext4 filesystem under linux.
There is a file rawprogram0.xml with addresses of each splitted files, but you cannot join them directly - between them there is some unused space. You can figure out how many "unused" blocks are needed between particular files from rawprogram0.xml file.

Since you're using Windows (like me) it's a little different than what it says in the link. You have to download and install Git bash. https://github.com/ethanbanker2428/SplashInjector/blob/1.5/README.md
Go to above link and read instructions (that page has a link for Git) Go to install directory, which should be C:/ProgramFiles/Git and run Git bash. That link will tell you how to install the Splash Injector tool once you install Git. Pretty straight forward after that but feel free to ask questions if you get stuck anywhere

Not really sure if that's possible.
Use a root browser and go to Dev/block/platform/soc/1da4000.ufshc/by-name and you will see a file named LOGO that is your logo.bin file. Copy and paste somewhere else. From there I have no idea lol Though I will do some research in the AM to see if it is at all possible

So I've been trying to root the xt but currently cannot find any links that are up to date, like the TWRP. Is there an up to date guide on how to root the xt?
Seriously..? There are plenty of guides posted. Other than that, just follow the instructions from yueng's twrp post to install madvane's version (or better yet, Google around for better instructions, and just use madvane's file). Then you just flash whatever SU manager you like (I prefer magisk).
I really don't want to sound like a jerk, but.. if you can't handle that, you really shouldn't be rooting your phone. It's a whole new level of PITA that only someone who's extremely tech savvy can reap more benefits than utter, miserable pain.
See post 1:

There are other instructions elsewhere you can search for, but those should work for rooting the XT.

So in developer options you have "Enable OEM unlock" enabled and in security have "Unknown Sources" enabled?
yuweng's TWRP is in the zip file and the img file needs to be renamed after unzipping depending on what instructions you are following to boot or flash it:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=71184622&postcount=1425
As you said, the original TWRP link in the OP of that thread is broken.

yeah both are enabled....adb fastboot all works...tried twrp in with adb and fastboot and says cant open...phones definitely unlocked and obviously bootloader is unlocked.

Yes, post the dir output from where you are running "fastboot".

fastboot boot TWRP.img comes up as cannot load TWRP.img : no such file or directory
ran from cmd out of windows
even running from cmd out of the adb folder which goes to user not system it says the same thing
but not sure how to get the dir output....noobish lol never had to since all my other roots went fine but this phone
Is TWRP.img in same folder as fastboot.exe file? It seems to not be.

you would think that would be it but nope its in there lol
Type "dir" from the same command line window you typed fastboot command from and post the output. Does TWRP.img show up in the output of the dir command?

that's running cmd from the folder that has adb and fastboot
not sure if the dir is correct...sorry lol
Nope, fastboot, adb, TWRP.img are not in that dir output. Just find TWRP.img and move it into your directory you listed above, then the fastboot boot TWRP.img command will work .

Filenames can be finicky.. rename whatever the unzipped image file is to 'twrp.img', and try again. Again, I'd use yuwengs instructions to install madvane's 5-21-17 version. Just make sure to backup your default recovery first in case something goes wrong - can Google for more complete twrp install directions, it's fairly universal besides the necessity to use an img built for your device.

Take it you don't have much command prompt or console experience...
Download and install 'minimal adb and fastboot' and 'universal adb driver' (both can be found on xda or via a Google search). Find the directory you installed 'minimal adb and fastboot' into and copy the twrp img there (now would be a good time for a crc check). Find the shortcut in your start menu for 'minimal adb and fastboot', right click it and run as administrator (or go to properties and enable running as administrator by default). Type 'dir' in the cmd prompt that pops up and confirm that the twrp img is there, then type 'adb devices' to confirm your phone is connected and recognized. Then proceed with the twrp install directions..
What do you need root for? Unlike what many claim, it doesn't make your phone faster - it's for advanced users with specific needs. Getting the phone unlocked and rooted is the easy part, compared to keeping it running smoothly afterward..
I wanted/have root so I could debloat the phone myself and avoid AT&T bloatware crap from running to save RAM/CPU/battery. But yes, just rooting the stock ROM won't improve anything without further action.
OP's problem with being unable to access TWRP.img is that TWRP.img is not in the directory where they ran the fastboot command and its path wasn't specified in the fastboot command. Obviously they have fastboot in the command path since it's not in the dir listing and still ran.
My guess is that they resolved the issue since they stopped posting.
