Simple Question I think:
How to reboot a LG Nexus 4 when it freezes. You can´t pull the Battery out. Is there a Key combination to do so?
You hold down the power button until the device powers off.

OK Thanks. I didn´t thought it´s just simple.

Does this also apply when flashing roms and kernels ? I am thinking about scenarios where you have a boot loop after a bad flash, does holding down the power button still work ? This is the only thing holding me back from buying a Nexus 4.

That is a completely different device.
Worked on the Galaxy S2 also this way, you can hold the power button while booting (bootloop) after several seconds it completely shutsdown.
It's different on different devices. On HTC it's holding +vol,-vol and power button together. On others it may differ. But any phone with non removable battery has a hard reset button combibation afaik.
I was under the impression that if you have a small phillips screwdriver nearby you can unscrew the two screws on the bottom of the device to access/pull the battery.
Works fine on HOX.
Holding power button has #1 priority.
Holding power whilst in a bootloop will turn off the device, hold it a little longer and it will reboot.
Holding power + volume down takes you to fastboot.

Same as Gnex/ N7 I guess, hold both the volume buttons and power and you're out of any crap you got yourself in.

On the G2x, holding Vol Up + Power does the trick, HOWEVER, there have been times when my phone has froze and that did not reboot my device and I still had to pull my battery...

Ummm, I wouldn't make that kind of suggestion to the people around here haha. The battery is NOT meant to be removed. Can it be? Yes. Should it be? No. Especially not for a reset. You risk damaging some things or wearing down the spring antennae connectors if you are constantly opening it up just to unhitch the battery. I think it is glued in anyways.
Holding the power button on my GS2 always restarts it even if it is stuck in a bootloop. I assume this phone will work the same way.

Many devices with the non removable battery use this - holding both volume up and down buttons and the power button - for performing a hard reset.

Hard reset should not be an issue for XDA flashers!

If your power button is broken, you can seperate the black rubber from the chrome bezel, right at the power button, you will see a silver dot with a silver ring around it,,which is the flex ribbon, and very, very small. Anyway, take a piece of aluminum foil and twist it up, now touch the silver dot and ring simultaneously, for like 1 or 2 seconds, and it will come on, if your flex ribbon is not broken. I have an extra. Mt4g with a broken power button, and I power it on this way a few times a day...takes about 10 seconds.

You didn't "hear", you've read it.
It's a method that makes Nexus One power on when its power button fails. Since it's a common fault with Nexus One, this method was tested and worked. I suggested testing the same method for MT4G, since the power controller for those phones might be similar.

As a user with a broken pwr button, I can tell u it don't work. Now I have posted a guide how to turn it on if your flex ribbon ain't broke. I'll look for the link & post back. But basically, just open your phone up at the chrome bezel, by the power button, and u will see a silver dot with a silver ring around it, touch that with a piece of foil for like 2 seconds..it should power on. Again, that's if you haven't tore your flex ribbon.

The flex is possible to fix too, if you can probe and find out the exact pin that the power button is going to, on the main large flex. Then you can connect a bypass wire to it. Again, in Nexus One forum one of the users figured out the exact pin, so it can be done on MT4G too. Also, given proper tools and very gentle hands, one can strip the flex cable to the power button from its isolation and solder directly to it.

The chrome bezel goes all around the screen and the black rubber is right next to it. Perhaps your phone is white?
If you're on clockwork recovery just plug in your device. It should turn on on its own to recovery screen. From there just reboot.

Does anyone else's Nexus 4 have a power button that feels "mushy" and doesn't have a pronounced "click" like the volume buttons? It might be the S-Line case that's amplifying the issue but even with the case off, the power button doesn't feel the same as the volume ones. The click is there but it's just not very strong and it feels like something that could be pushed in and stuck there someday...
Use showp1984's Bricked Kernel in the Original Android Development forum. It has a feature called Sweep2Wake where you do not need to use the power button to wake, the phone.
It's truly amazing. Try it out. Make sure you flash the Stock kernel in the thread through fast boot before flashing it or your ROM most likely will not boot

To be honest, compared to the buttons on the iPhone, every android phone I have ever used feel lousy. They are hard to feel for, frequently obstructed, and are not positive by any stretch of the imagination. While this one is better than my Nexus One, I doubt they could have made a worse one than that if they tried.
For a button that will be pressed hundreds, if not thousands of times, it is a fail.
I'm annoyed because of the position, it should be lower IMO.

Well I use the volume buttons to unlock, so functionally it doesn't really affect me but just like to know if this is a standard or defect.
I like the fact its harder to press so I don't accidentally press it. I've found on other phones I press it while watching videos and have to unlock/enter pin/press play multiple times because the button is too sensitive.
My power button is a bit harder to press, not mushy though.. The vol+/- have a crisper button mechanism... It does spring back quickly though, I don't think it'll break.

Hey guys,
Recently got my Nexus 7. I tried turning it on when it came out of the box but it didn't.
So I though I'd charge it for a while. When I plug it in a battery icon pops up for about ten seconds and then the screen goes black again.
I can't turn it on at all. Tried holding the power button for a long time but that didn't work either.
I'd really appreciate it if you guys could help me out rather quickly because I'm on holiday in the US so I've got limited time left to swap it, if nothing else helps.

When I took it out of the box the battery was about half full (according to the charging animation). Now it appears to be full. Left it charging for about 2 hours.

try holding the power button down and the volume down button. see if itll boot into the bootloader. if it does, select start in the bootloader then press the power button to select. maybe itll boot that way.

Thanks for all your help.
So I got the HTC One today and I have to say the build quality is out of this world. But I have a few gripes about it and I was wondering if anyone had the same opinions. First the feedback from the softkeys is really weak. I barely feel the vibration when I hit the key. This is especially an issue when I have to double tap the home key for the multitasking screen. I'm also getting incredibly irritated with the location of the power key. It literally could not be further for me to reach when I'm using the phone. I came from an S3 where the power button was on the side and feedback from the soft keys is always a good intensity. Maybe I'm being too critical but I'm wondering if anyone else is getting bothered by these issues.

I too am not the biggest fan of the power button being at the top. I have my screens set up to be used one handed, but the power button ruins it
I switched to Revolution HD ROM, which has a feature to use the volume up/down keys to wake the phone up, but I am slightly concerned about performance. I might be wrong, but I think the stock ROM was smoother (especially when opening and closing the apps draw). I will compare it with a friend's phone today.
I feel so sad for this
OK, had a look at the stock rom and the same lag is there. Will stick with Revolution HD Rom.
Either they fix this or I don't feel them unresponsive. They are working good enough for me.

The power button is at the top so that the you can point the phone straight forward when using the IR blaster. Not sure why everyone is overlooking this. As for the buttons, I don't see a problem with them. The lack of a menu key annoyed me but I re-enabled the long press back for menu and it's been fine.
We could have one more button yes. But there are phones with power button on the left so that's not a "mistake"

I was about to say the same thing...it would have been great to have the power button on the side about two-thirds up (Samsung Galaxy style) and the IR blaster on the top. It would have also been cool if they had put a second wide-angle IR blaster on the back of the phone (for example somewhere near the camera lens). The gyroscope could determine which IR port would be active...when the phone is horizontal, it would use the IR port on top, and when the phone is upright and in the normal viewing position it would switch to the IR port on the back. This would permit you to hold your phone in a normal manner and push the remote app buttons without having to swing your phone horizontally and point it at your equipment like a traditional remote control, which is kind of silly when you think about it.

Exactly. Everyone needs to stop complaining about where the power button is, pick up ya damn phone and turn it on and then everything you need is well within reach.
For me personally I don't care I like the button where it is, I usually leave my phone on a flat surface and when I pick it up or turn it on my index finger is already in the general area. NBD.

So I've had my tf300 for around 2 years and I pulled it out of my bag tonight and the touchscreen has become totally unresponsive. I tried to reboot to TWRP and its still unresponsive and now stuck because I cannot unlock it. Anyone have any ideas what happened/how to fix?
Here is something you can try. Not sure it will work, but might and will sure not hurt.
Find the small reset hole (same side as the volume buttons) and find something small enough to go into.
Press and hold it for a while, again holding for a full minute won't hurt.
Make sure you feel the slight bump when you press the switch, but don't press too hard.
Hope it helps, but no guarantees! Fingers crossed!
