my evo will not stop charging when disconnected from charger and wont connect to comp pleas help need to fix asap
What Rom are you running ? What Recovery are you using ? What Kernel are you using ? You said it will not connect to the computer. Have you Updated HTC Sync ?
Not charging while phone is on..
Hi guys,
I am facing a very unique issue(basically i didnt find any thread which had the same problem as mine). My Evo does not charge while the phone is switched on nor can i connect it to my comp from the recovery after i mount it in usb mode. It charges properly while it is powered off. I have tried installing jellybread & mokeeos roms with tiamat kernel but they go into boot loop.
It is really inconvenient since i have to switch off the phone for it to charge. Please help.
The details of the system are below:
RoM: rooted stock rom from xda thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/HTC_Evo/ROMs)
the kernel is also stock
I am using Amon Ra recovery 3.11
Please do help me out with this.
I figure its a software problem since it is charging properly when switched off.
Are you Full Root "S-off" ? Have you tried using a different charger / cable combo ?

evo charge issues
Yes, My phone is fully rooted and s-off.
also i have tried using several charger, cable combos.
When it is in fastboot, i can flash files, threre is not problem there, but when I turn on USB mode in the recovery, it does not detect on the computer.
Also It charges when off, but does not when fully switched on. 1 thing that i now noticed was that sometimes, it starts charging when switched on, and then stops after 1 minute or so.
Also the battery drains extremely quickly now. This was not the case before this happened.
It would be great if you could help me out here,

Sounds like a bad battery or bad charging port... cheapest way to test is to buy a battery from ebay or something. See what happens. If the same problem persists its a hardware issue with the port itself (which I think it is from the sounds of it). Or you can unroot it, load a stock Sense rom and go to a Sprint store to have them look at it.
You can also try cleaning the Charger port itself out. I've issues in the past with charger ports getting dirty, which causes a bad connection. But I would still defiantly try a different Battery.
thanks guys, will clean the port and also try a new battery...
will get back once i have done these...

my battery charge icon was replaced by ClockworkMod and now i can't charge my phone when it is turned off. any solution for this problem? thanks.
I think what you mean is when you shut down it reboots into clockwork? Ive had that happen. If thats the case just select reboot and it turns back on / charges
you can't charge it when it's turned off

That is how clockwork works but it should not be a problem as your phone is still charging regardless if it's sitting in clockwork or on in Adroid.

it reboots in clockwork only when the usb cable is plugged in ac.
i turn off my phone at night and charge it. that's why it bothers me.
but it seems there's no solution for that. i'd would have to uninstall clockwork, then?
Why don't you just leave your phone on?
or just put it on silent.
ok. i was just wondering if that could be fixed. thanks.
Just unplug the cable before shutting it down, then plug it back in after it is fully shutdown.
phone died
ya my phone died completely in my pocket and didnt have enough power to boot,
but i had the same problem with my old htc 8125 and had a solution ready
some htc phones, (2 that i have) htc aria and htc 8125 cant run without battery because there isnt a direct connection from the usb port to the battery.
the phones OS charges the battery once its booted, so with a dead battery you cant do jack. this just happened to me with aria. before i would just plug it in and the battery icon would pop up. but now its clockworks recovery. left phone plugged in for hours and still nothing. i had a usb cable cut up from when my 8125 did this and it worked for the aria too. so if your aria dies, google how to fix 8125 dead battery problem. basicly you take a usb cable and cut it expose the + and - power cables and touch them direct to the battery + and - for about 5-10 mins to give it a boost of power then boot it up. once booted the issue is gone, till your battery dies again. Im assuming the aria fixed the old problem with the recovery where recovery can run with direct power cause i could get to clockwork all day long with dead battery, but could not get it to boot till i jump started the battery.
that means i won't be able to charge my phone if the battery dies?
(unless i "jump start" the battery?)

I'm pretty sure the wall-charge adapter will always charge the phone. It always has full juice to the USB pins whereas a USB host only supplies a minimal current to the device then the device must request more from the host once communications are established (part of the USB specifications).
Attn1 has a procedure of flashing ROMs without flashing CMmod, i did that. Now i have liberated aria rom with stock recovery. It works correct.

i think i'll just wait my battery die and see if i can charge it then.
i hope i won't lose my phone forever. hehe.
I think it should be considered as bug then?

No, because even before you flashed clockwork, the phone is never off during charge. If you shut down and plug in, it would boot that big green battery (which was part of the old recovery) and eventually sleep. But it was not off. No Clockwork bug - just a crappy HTC design.
Uninstalling clockwork or patching the phone?

Sorry, I didn´t see this thread before, and I asked about this issue in others.
Isn´t it possible to run an update using clockwork to change it to work in the normal way, at least just with a black screen, not starting the clockwork recovery... Its just to minimize the probability to make mistakes, the clockwork interface could be dangerous if you don´t know what you are doing...
I´ve seen a "patch" to run live wall papers on Aria: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=6953168#post6953168
It would be possible to make a similar patch for this case? I´m just wondering...
What if I uninstall the clockwork recovery replacing it with the original?, is it possible?
Is there anyway to change it back to the battery, but leave clockwork on? My mom just got the aria, and I rooted it to flash the sense ROM here. Is there anyway to take off clockworks, or return the battery charge animation on the phone?
The battery charge screen is part of the original recovery and there is no way that I know of to have two recoveries on the same recovery partition, so I'd have to say "no".
This will bring back the battery charging animation instead of clockwork
Attn1 pointed me the way in irc.
Basically, you flash back the stock recovery using unrevoked. Then when you want to use clockwork, you flash it with unrevoked.

Remember, if its stuck at looking for root, press the power button, and let it continue. For me, it would get stuck there, and I didn't realize thats all that was needed for it to be successful.
As the title says I have a strange yet very annoying problem. I am running my HD2 with hyperdroid cm7 Nand build (from april 29th). The problem is that when my battery is deleted, as is the case now, and I put my hd2 in the charger it will automatically boot. I think this is due to a setting or something. However since booting drains energy faster than the hd2 charges, the phone will by turned of before it has completely booted. After a while it get's stuck in a pattern of starting to boot and turning of. I don't know why this is the case because I think my phone just used to boot fine before when connected to a charger.
So my questions are:
1. does anyone has a suggestion how to turn on the phone?
2. this automatic booting, can it be turned off?
3. Why is it actually happening?
Maybe it's a very stupid or obvious problem, but I hope someone can help me though.
Do you have installed MGLRD?, it's a Known fact, search in the forum for answer (I'm sorry, I'm with SD Builds and don't use MGLRD, so I can not help you anymore).
I had the same problem with some rom i used earlier. The only way i could solve the issue was to remove the battery and put it back, then I could insert the charger without the phone booting up. Charge it for a while and start it.
Hope this way works for u 2.

I guess this is what I used to do as well. However now, if I remove the battery and put it back in it keeps automatically booting. Also if I put the charger in the phone and then remove the battery same thing happens. But thanks for the help though.
I am currently using the same ROM via MGLRD. Because of MGLRD, it will always turn on the phone from off when you plug your phone in. This is a known feature of MGLRD to preserve the battery. Checking just now, I turned my phone off, plugged in my charger and the phone automatically booted itself then the lockscreen came on then turned itself off after one minute. This is the cycle I see every time I charge my phone if it is off. I do not see it going into any boot cycle. What I see is after it goes through this, the orange LED light is on letting me know it is charging and will change to green when it is fully charged. Did you make sure before loading the ROM to do a complete wipe before installing? Usually most of the problems are associated due to not doing a complete wipe prior to loading a new ROM.

Well, this cycle I think is caused by the fact that the charger is not strong enough. Normally if plugged in the phone would just boot. The reason that it fails to boot is that is doesn't have enough power to complete the boot cycle even though the phone is plugged in (don't know if booting consumes a lot of power?).
A month ago I bought a new usb cable. Maybe that's where the problem lies? Because I have been using the hyperdroid rom for a while now. Although I don't know if one cable can be stronger than the other.
I have found a solution btw: Though it is a bit hit and miss cause it didn't work a few hours ago. When booting I let it go into mgldr and let it charge there. After a while I'll let it boot when it has enough power to complete the boot.

Humm, now you making me think lol, the 1st time I installed Android on my HTC HD2 was the NexusHd2 rom one and he had the same problem, no battery but once I plug it to the wall charger it would do the full(normal)boot, I thought was the rom so I changed to Hyperdroid Cm7, but, still does the same..
The wipe you talking is the one, wipe data/cache right?
if it happens to you a lot, I think it's time to invest in a third-party battery charger. you can charge it out of the phone for a bit, and then you're safe to put it back in a continue charging using the phone
Tried some different roms and all them do the same.. so I reckon its normal.. Thank You.
Hi,
does anyone have problems charging your x8?
In the last few days i have really big problems to charge my phone.
With charger or directly connected to the PC most of the times X8 doesn't detect the connection.
sometimes after reboot or shutdown it starts to charge and connect the usb connection, other times it simply does nothing...
cable maybe?
coz I never had that problem with so many rom I ever tried.
I mean its nothing to do with the rom.
i tried several cables, im guessing is my usb port on the phone...
i use your rom or froyobread usually and i have that problem on both so it's about hardware.
I have a different charging problem... I can not charge my X8 when it's switched off...
In few words: my phone is switched off, I put the usb cable in the wall charger (or in the pc usb) and the phone , after 30 seconds, switches on automatically...
I want to charge my phone during the night. I don't want to be arrassed by nightly phone calls or sms... but my phone doesn't want to stay "switched off" so I have to chose the "airplane mode" to sleep well...
I did nothing to my phone apart installing SuperUser (I rooted it) and Xrecovery but NEVER installed a cooked rom or different firmware... I am on the original stock 2.1 ...
Any suggestion ?

Had much of the same problem, rang sony and they wanted the phone back.. They tested it and said "The phones usb port had broken".
I then got a replacement free of charge (phone was less than 3 weeks old) and havnt had the problem since.

Xrecovery has a file named "chargemon". Now this is a modified file, and this causes phone booting when trying to charge the phone when off. Conclusion: Xrecovery does this. BTW just set plane mode on when you're sleeping! Hope it helps.

if you didnt fix it yet, try to wipe battery stats from xrecovery or cwm, did the job for me =)
Ok this will be a bit lengthy but please bare with me and read...
Ive been running Darkyy 10.1 EE for months now and every has been fine.
Easily a couple of days battery, no force close issues of any sorts... Everything has been perfect.
Then the other day i noticed my battery started dropping fast. NO THIS IS NOT A BATTERY DRAIN THREAD SO PLEASE READ ON.
I took my phone off charge the other night within seconds of hearing the beep for battery full and the fully charged icon in the top right of the bar stayed there for a few seconds ( like maybe 10 ) and then the battery level dropped to 80%.
I thought hhmmm thats not right but left it and went to bed.
6 hours later i woke up to 31% battery.
I thought something must be running killing my battery so i did a reboot...
Now this is where it gets weird. Read on my friends...
after i rebooted the phone it kept rebooting itself every 2 minutes or so.
I pulled the battery of for 30 minutes and put it back but i had the same problem.
When i got home i did a factory rest and wipe cache partition and decided to flash Darkyy 10.2...
I had the same problems as above only now when my phone rebooted the battery lvl would drop by 20% then next time raise by 5% etc etc
NOW THIS BIT IS SCARY BUT READ ON!!!
I decided to flash back to froyo with ezbase using repartition to see if that would help.
I plugged my phone into the computer and nothing happened!!!! My computer wouldnt recognise my phone at all neither would my phone start charging whilst plugged into the computer.
I managed to get my computer to see my phone by booting into recovery and and then download mode and flashed ezbase.
Again same problems. So i thought OK this might be an insurance job so i flashed it back to stock JPY from samfirmware.com. I plugged it back into my computer and my PC says "the USB device you have connected has malfunctioned and windows cannot recognise..."
I have had my phone unplugged over night but the icon on the bar is still there showing USB connected, and in the pull down shade there is still the option to connect USB to copy files.
I have plugged it in this morning and it started charging but windows didnt even recognise that there was anything attached at all! No beep no fault deviced attached message... Nothing!
Oh i would also like to mention that when i flashed ezbase and tryied to do a reboot i would get the battery icon for a second like if you charged while the phone was off and then it would power down again... The only way i could get the phone to boot back up was to flash EZbase again with auto reboot ticked!
Yes that was very long sorry and thankyou to those who took the time to read it.
If anyone has any thoughts on why this would have happened please post.
Do you think this is something caused by the custom rom or is this a hardware issue completely out of my hands?
Thank you again for reading!
Have you tried another battery?
Sent using geek power
First, I would try to check if its a hardware problem.
For that burn a stock rom and see how it is doing. If its working fine with stock, without any problem, then obviously its ROM issue.
Else if the stock also gives you the same problem, then I would say its a hardware problem.

Im running stock JPY right now and have the same problem
Could it be a damaged usb port, so that it doesn't always charge properly, and doesn't always detect the phone correctly when connected to the computer? That might explain the problems... Especially if that port is getting worse all the time.
Can you get it to detect on the computer if you wiggle the usb plug to the phone? Have you tried a replacement usb lead?
It does sound weird. Hope you manage to sort it out.

I flashed my Defy with a custom ROM months ago and never had a problem. I left my phone for a few days and it's completely drained of its battery. I try to charge it using my USB cable connected to my PC, but the Defy doesn't show the animation where the battery is shown being charged; just the white LED and a black screen. When I hit the power button, it shows "bootloader 09.10, battery low cannot program". I know I flashed my phone correctly and have no idea why this screen is being shown. I didn't try to charge via wall outlet, I'm currently on vacation and only brought the USB cable with me. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Edit: My phone is a regular MB525, flashed with with a custom Gingerbread that was posted in this very forum. On my PC the model reads MB526...
Once battery is fully drained occassionally Defy takes time to even boot up. So leave it in that state (Connected to USB ) for couple of hours and try again.
Tried and didn't work, I'm hoping plugging into the AC charger will fix this...though that won't be happening for another week..
Have you the possibility to try the battery in another defy or to use another battery?
Not until about a week..
Don't worry, your Defy will get charged when connected to wall plug.
Mine was the same situation as it won't charge on total empty battery over USB port.
But it charging normally as soon as I plug it to wall charger.
just make sure you don't flash it with any SBF!
OP! i had exact same problem and it snowballed into something huge. It started same as you did, my fone ran out of juice as I was in my office and I couldn't get USB port to charge it, all I had was white LED and black screen in my office. So, at home i plugged it into wall charger for 5 or more hours and I still couldn't see the battery that shows its charging, I tried a different wall charger and still same results.
Then my phone begin to atleast fired up in wall charger but got stuck in Moto M logo. I could only access bootloader and not the Boot recovery for some reason. I been stuck here since, my battery was fully charged externally and yet nothing, I even tried every combo (SIM in, SIM out, SD Card in, SD Card Out) etc but I couldn't get into boot recovery so I could just hard reset my Defy. I could only access the bootloader.
At that point I flashed by Defy with 2.1 SBF's like 7 of them with same results, no matter what SBF file I successfully flashed with I could for the life of me get into boot recovery.
Now, i am just sick and tired and hate Defy because its effed up. I am taking it to the shop i purchased it from tomorrow.
i guess im having almost the same problem.
my defy doesnt boot, only shows the white LED.
it is recognised by the RSD, but nothing happens.
cant boot, doesnt show anything on the screen.
what should I do?
macgyver is not working either
I had a similar issue and I used the macgyver trick and flashed a new sbf. The rom you are using possibly doesn't support charging in the off state.
Sent from my CM9 Defy
as a total android/motorola user
and i appear to be having the same issue, bootloader only!!
Could i ask what and where is the official unmodified rom for this phone.
Thank you.

Unfortunately that solution didn't fix the battery problem... and also the McGyver method didn't work.
I'm afraid that my girlfriend will need a new battery.
She was using an aged MIUI rom (more or less six months old). After the battery replacement should I have to flash the stock Froyo CEE rom via RSD or do you think that the will works again?
Did u fixed the problem ? How ?
I`m in same posture...
I'm still in the same situation. The battery is on stuck at 5%, even if I change the one I own with another one. I can't flash via RSD and I don't know how to fix this problem.

Damn, that's a shame...Hopefully its just a corrupt rom, the new boot loader is brick-proof I believe.
I rooted mine after upgrading and its a cracking little android phone...Actually, it doesn't get used as a phone, but a portable computer/gps.
