[SOLVED]Split screen - Windows 8 General

Hi again,
i have problem, my hp pavilion dv5 have 1280x800 screen and i cannot split screen in windows 8 like on screenshot. I know i must have min.1366x768 screen but maybe there is option to unlock this option in lower resolution.

Possible I guess. By using the resolution hack, I think you may achieve split screen. It's using the netbook screen res method, you hack the registry to show more screen resolution options. Gives you more, but it looks cramped, blurry, with uneven pixel density. That's putting more pixels than the actual screen may support. Another method you can use is plugging an external display that supports 1366x768 and up. This will definitely allow you to have that split screen.

res registry hack doesn't work anymore. Haven't found a way to do this yet.

Okay, solved. If you have nVidia you can add other resolution via nVidia Control Panel. Now I can split on my 1280x800 screen with resolution 1366x856

ATI Radion HD?
Hi all
I have the same native resolution as the OP but my laptop has an ATI Radion HD graphics card.
Does anybody know how to add an additional resolution with this type of card?
Thanks and God bless
andrew-in-woking

Check ATI software, maybe there is option to add the "adjusted resolution".
I checked it in nVidia software and Intel also ( HD 3000 ), and i can add other resolution ( higher than native ).
Regards

I use an nVidia based Graphics Card and this is how I change my resolution, in case anyone wanted to try it out! And yes, snapping works perfectly after this but your monitor might not display it all very clearly.
I have a Dell monitor as you can see in the screenshot running on a native resolution of 1280x1024, just like the OP's! \

After changing the resolution from 720p to 768 by my Radeon, its looking bad,I wanna know that, it shud look bad isn't it,I mean it's obvious to look bad in upgraded or downgraded resolution?can't we do sumthing 2 run those apps in 720p,well if sum1 mod the apps into compatible resolution...well this may b a noobie question, well I don't wanna use those apps in BAD LOOKING SCREEN THAT'S ALL
Served By XDA app From Nazomi (LT26i)

How?

What I have observed from using Split Screen is that, each app has a minimum running width of 1024px wide, anything lower and it will look cropped and uneven. So even if somehow the people at XDA bypass that option and allow snapping at lower resolutions, it will still look bad.
It's not such a great feature either, you keep getting confused on what's running and hard to concentrate on one app when there are two taking up the screen. Multitasking was made for the desktop version and it should stay that way in my opinion

Aldiko Book Reader in 240x320 NAND Donut AOSP Eclair ?

I found this Aldiko program and previously it worked perfectly. I am not sure what resolution I was running at, I think it was 320 x 428 though. It fit perfectly on the screen.
Now that I am running 240 x 320 , title pages are fine, but as I flip through, the pages are skewed off of the screen to the left so you cannot read the leftmost words, and to the right, you can see the first word on the following page. It makes it impossible to read anything
Does anyone have ideas about how to fix this besides going back to a 320x428 screen size? I haven't had success tweaking the columns in the program's own settings.
I greatly appreciate any help on this!!!
The same is happening to me. I think it's due to the resolution you have.
The application assumes a width when it's another. The offset is wrong and it's added up on every page, so it never gets the correct focus.
Did you change your lcd.density to 110? You need 110 for 240x320 to fit correctly.

I'm not sure about this - I am using DZO 240x320 flashed to NAND - whatever the default is that is what I have.
Is there any way to check / change this with NAND? I know how to do it on the MicroSD card using default.txt but am new to NAND.
Greatly appreciate the help!
hey
you need to have ur res at 320x480 for alot of apps. they make there builds with diff res because the screen looks a bit more clear at the lower qvga res. But then u miss out on alot of apps which i think kills the purpose of an android phone... u will have to flash it with ur own data.img that u make with haret (after u run haret it makes a data.img but make sure ur default.txt has its res 320x480 and the lcd density to 160). Then u follow the directions here and use the 320x480.nbh then after u flash u have to adb into your phone to /system/build.prop and change the lcd density to 160.
i cannot get mine to adb so i cant fix my density and alot of the apps i use need to be at 320x480 so i am just going to buy a hero tonight. hopefully u have better luck with it then me.

Haha enjoy the hero, wish I could have one. I'm trying to see how long I can hold out, hanging on to my Vogue and $30 SERO.
That really stinks if 320x480 is required, I really can't survive in that resolution. Sure you can tweak the density but it never really works well for me, the text is too small in Maps and that is probably the most vital function for my phone.
really i think 320x480 looks great with maps (including the words) lol.. slowly more apps are getting qvga resolutions apparently. I hope i like the hero i heard the battery life is worse then the vogue with android lol.
I have version of Aldiko which works seamlessly on 240 x 320, I will try to post later tonight, it is freeware.

Yeah I couldn't deal with the words - the map looked nice but the words I could not read well enough for while I'm driving
that's crazy that Vogue has better battery life than Hero... guess they got shafted.

Your screen resolution is not wider enough for windows 8 feature "snap". Snap requires 1366x768 and above. You only have 1280x800. Try enabling downscaling. You can find some registry hacks to enable downscaling or if your drivers support this, try adding a custom resolution with a width higher than 1366

How do you get a custom resolution on the W500?
I need to know too, i would have chosen another tablet but W500 has good specs for testing windows 8 and all drivers work
Here's how

Here's a YouTube video how to enable Downscaling, which will allow you to use a more wider resolution and downscale it to your screen resolution:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wTj8xxpkmVE
That does not work
Think its because its intergrated in the c50 processor.....
Ya I have been trying to find a way and so far any driver/resolution sort of tweek or hack is coming up nul. There has to be some way to force it. Why Microsoft would fully lock everyone out of it is beyond me. :/
just wait until full release, someone will ether make an app or find out a hack to do it, it doesn't make sense to have it done on a RC because ms will patch it when windows 8 is fully released

[Q] Can I remove screen resolution error without changing screen resolution?

Hello. I have a net book with Intel atom inside with a small screen resolution. Windows 8 gives limitations to me because we need a certain minimum screen size for its apps to run. However my screen size is small so I can't run any apps. Also, I know that there is a hack to change screen resolution but that doesn't fit nicely on my screen and looks ugly. Is there a way to remove the screen resolution limitations?
Thank you
Install latest video drivers for Win 7 then search your registry for "Display1_DownScalingSupported" and change its value from 0 to 1
It 's listed more than once so make sure you change each listing.
I hope that helps!
-cp
I know. I was taking about that. Doing that makes my resolution a bit weird. Is there a way to remove the ability to let windows detect resolution so that we can use it without changing? Thanks for helping

I had installed Win8 on an Aspire one and yes, those scaling options suck because their ratios do not match the screen. I didn't investigate heavily because I also have a SS7S but Macs have a program that lets you use custom resolutions, does Windows have this? Then you could at least get the ratio correct.

Native dpi scaling (MM needed)

Surprised not to see this posted here. It's for the s7 but people on reddit have confirmed that it works on the s6. I would try it but you need to be running MM, seems it changes the dpi to 540, or around that can't remember the exact number. This is native so Ui and everything should scale properly compared to doing to in adb.

Why would you need to downscale the resolution of your OS? i dont see any logic in it, or do you mean Text Size and Icon Size?

Ah i see so you guys are talking about resizing the icons and text of the OS, if you guys wanted to lower resolution for gaming Samsung Galaxy S6 has a samsung app called Game Tuner which works like an nvidia or amd control panel which lets you configure color quality per game, screen brightness per game and most importantly resolution per game.

Ic, well i just tought you guys wanted it for the games, there are many times when you want to play high end gfx games on your android but the fps are killed by the overkill screen resolution, thats why android has some apps that reduces the DPI of the entire OS, but Game Tuner is much better than that, it only affects the game you want.
Anyways sorry for going off topic, just tried to help
This is simply superb trick. Working perfectly on 920F dual sim.

Correct me if im wrong but resolution is different than dpi right?
Suppose you have a 4k resolution and 620 dpi, you changed from 620 dpi to 540 dpi you still have 4k resolution, no? It's just that in 540 dpi you can view more content but still have the same resolution.
Feel free to correct me.
Simply put, DPI = scaling and has nothing to do with res.
This changed the dpi on my S6 to 560 after reboot. Then I issued 'adb wm density 540' which changed the dpi to 540 on the fly.
The easiest way to control ur dpi scalling here it is
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.evozi.displayscaling
How about the phone app and camera app, is it also condensed?
Indeed works perfectly fine on G920F. @Tricks25 yes, phone/camera are also condensed
Works with apps "more shortcuts" and G920I. 2 modes (standard/condensed) to select when launch the "DisplayScalingActivity" shortcut.

Screen resolution change ?

I see that samsungs and v30 got the option to change screen resolution to save battery. Is that option in the G6? (I currently got an LG G2 and want to upgrade)

That's exactly why Im asking. Its a shame if you cant tune down the resolution and loose performance. Perhaps a custom rom may steal that function from the v30 now that is released.
My LG G2 never get hot. I wonder why new cellphones got this problem.
Yeh my phone geta hot after 15 min and loose fps....almost to unplayable state.... I need underclock cpu or lower resolution.... To keep it little more cool

Just tried the otpion from battery settings...game battery saver..custom. And for the game i play (mobile legends) i lovered resolution to minimum and i lovered the fps as well.. Its much much better.... But will test it more... It says resolution lovered .... So i asume it must be doing something... As i am sure we cant notice 2k and 1080p drop on such a small screen....but cpu should stay cooler... Test it as well and let me know how you get on...please
Note i launch the game from the menu itself...by choosing option play....

I think that only works with 3d applications but not affect daily use in wich the cpu/gpu need to move full screen resolution.

I still dont own the phone so cant test it but see a few videos/reviews about it and it render games at lower resolution. But only that, games, so all other drawing functions from normal aplications are not afected. It works as intended and indeed it help a lot in fast demanding games (like racing, shooters ,etc)
Yes like you said...did today hevay gaming over 1 hour.... No heat like before....warm yes...but no even close to it.... The resolution is noticeably lower..but i went to max fps and min res....
Defo a good feature...better then lower all res....
Cheers
I havent had any heating issues with g6. But resolution change would a thing nice to see with oreo update.

I bet we gonna get this in oreo update
https://goo.gl/UKaif3 This will help for the resolution but you have to be rooted
Oreo should bring resolution change option.
Non-rooted option: search Google for adb shell wm size and adb shell wm density commands. I haven't tried the size command but density gave me little bit nicer look and feel.
Bit of an old thread, but right now I'm running this res for better game performance:
adb shell
wm size 1080x2160
wm density 480
Notice that this causes the viewfinder in the stock camera app to be zoomed in and you won't be able to see the full image being captured. But I use the ported Google Camera which doesn't suffer from the problem.
