After removing my back cover on several occasions I have managed to create a really loud creaking sound every time I put slight pressure on the back, down the right hand side whilst holding it in portrait mode.
Has anyone got any tips on how to reduce the creaking?
It seems to get slightly worse every time I remove it and put it back on.
Thankyou.

I had the same thing. A small area of creak near the top of the battery on the back right. All I did is take some paper, folded a few times over, about the width of my thumb tall and the width of the battery wide and taped it in just the right spot.
It took a lot of trial and error to find the right width and the right thickness for the paper as well as the right spot. A TON. But eventually I got it just right and the case is now 100% solid. It sounds like the EXACT same area of creak as mine so I would try about the same dimensions and location as I suggested above.
Good luck.
ALSO: Then again you may have broken the long clip in the middle on the right side, and if that's the case then I'm not sure what you can do about that...

You have to re clip the back cover from where you got the clicking sound.

Thankyou. I will give it a go and see how I get on.
I can't see anything broken so hopefully the paper trick should work.

I have the same issue - creaky sound on right side under the volume rocker. No lift or any other issues. I applied four layers of masking tape cut to a 5 x 50 mm strip to the area between the metal frame and the edge of the tablet - ie. over the area where the screws are located. That took care of it completely.

Does any else have a battery cover that creaks a bit when you put pressure near the top of the right side? I am sure its just due to the fact its plastic instead of metal, but its one of those little things that will bother the hell out of me if I am the only one who has this problem...
Mine seems totally fine, I just tried to get it to creak with no luck. Do you have a screen protector that it may be rubbing on?
I noticed it too. I guess as long as it doesn't slip off easily, it should be fine.
I haven't noticed this; however, in order to take the cover off for your SIM, battery, and sdcard; the right side of the phone is a pressure point (at least on my phone) to help free it from the clips holding it in place when you want to pull it up. Mine doesn't creak, but I do notice if I put some pressure on it there is a bit of give. HTH.
A little bit off topic but yesterday I rooted my girlfriends Aria and I automatically took the back cover off because I thought the procedure would be similar to my Incredible. After I was done with the root I left the back cover off and tried to make calls and send texts but nothing worked. I had no service until I put the cover back on. When I looked a little further it seemed like there were two contacts on the back cover that must serve some purpose. Is this true?
I was a little shook for a minute....Thought I ruined her phone!
The antenna is in the back cover...
Well there ya go....thanks.

I have the same problem with mine. It's on the same side too. I got a case from the ATT store and its gone away. Makes the phone more sturdy for me

I have the same issue ,, but in the top left corner... it is really annoying...
Yep, top right corner creaking here
As many times as I've had the back cover off swapping between SD cards though it was only a matter of time.
Hello all.
This is my 1st post on here.
I have received my DHD and the battery cover doesn't seem flush from the front. So much so that when trying to find the volume buttons by touch I always press the battery cover instead.
Is anyone else's like this. Wonder if I should get it exchanged.
Many thanks.

Same here, I feel as though it needs to be pushed down more..even though it seems secure. There does seem to be a very slight raised lip.
I feel that my battery cover is secured really well. It's solid as a rock and requires quite a bit of effort to remove.
I do wish the volume buttons were more distinct (i.e. separate or at least with a feelable division between up and down) and stuck out a bit more.
how do you take the battery out of the phone ? mine seams like its stuck in lol

I also find the volume buttons quite hard to feel, especially through the silicone case my phone is in.
I've ended up putting a volume widget on my home screen, as I'm only ever toggling between volume on and silent anyway.

OK. Thanks for your help.
Looks like I'll have to put up with it.

When I got my DHD and went to remove the plastic slip from the battery, I noticed that the battery compartment cover was not flush with the alumiium chassis. So much so, that it was a nightmare taking it off. After exerting a little more force than I'd have liked, I got it to pop off by sliding a fingernail up along the volume switch.
When it came to putting it back on, I noticed there is some "give" at the two narrow sides of the cover - it is possible to get it flush by trial and error. I was surprised that was the case but there ya go, it can be done.
i nearly returned a phone cause of this but if you remove it make sure the back is slid into place, and push down on both sides of the volume rocker at the same time it will fit flush mine was like yours took me 3 attempts to fit it
Exactly the same problem.
Should I get it replaced?
Both DHD covers are dodgy in my experience. Once you get them to fit, don't touch them. Both covers feel as if they'd suffer very easily from mechanical wear and tear.
It seems to me HTC have multiple versions of the covers with slightly different shapes. My SIM cover has a small piece of plastic/gum glued onto it to level its height towards the SD card area. I suspect a dodgy manufacturing batch which they augmented rather than ditched for a new one.
I'm yet to see a perfect fit of the covers.

The covers fit perfectly. The problem is getting them in right. Once they're in they're perfect.
So i was doing a final check before i go ahead and unlock bootloader and start flashing since unlocking voids your warranty with google.
upon inspections, i found out that when i PUSH on the lower left corner on the phone, it creaks PRETTY loudly, it almost sounded like im clicking on my mouse....
Anyone else got this!??!?!
look at the frame of your phone. mine wasn't flush where the chrome and rubber frames met, and had to rma it
no, everything look uniform. Same color and all. it just clicks when i push out.
Also not when i plug in my charger and wiggle it a bit. it makes some noise....i know its not my charging cord cuz i use like 3 different ones.
Thanks,
You can relock the bootloader that's a non issue. I have the creaking clicking sound too but on the left side above the volume rocker. I was going to exchange it but went to the T-Mobile store and the sales reps N4 and the display unit do the same thing. No unevenness in the bezel to case on any of them either. I decided there are worse problems in the world.

i dont have this issue, phone really feel solid!
Have the same thing on the left side of the USB port looks flush but I can push it in a little and it makes a noise doesn't seem to be doing any hard and it doesn't look off so I'm fine with it

I have the same creaking in the bottom left corner, right below the speaker. It creaks if I squeeze the two ends of the glass, or if I squeeze the bezel in that area. I'm slightly nervous that this may contribute to the back glass cracking, but I think that's probably being overly paranoid. I actually ordered a torx T5 screwdriver to see if loosening and tightening the screw in that area makes a difference. I'll post back here once I get the screwdriver and try it out.

Please do. I'm a sufferer as well and just thought a few minutes ago if tightening the screws could help. Because if that's all it is, then... BALLIN'.
But seriously, even if it doesn't help, I think I'll be able to live with it. I mean I don't normally squeeze the bottom of the phone like that.
Patently waiting for a reply
I should have the screwdriver by Wednesday, according to USPS. I will update everyone once I get it.

I have tried the Torx screwdriver for this issue. It doesn't do anything. My first Nexus was really bad with this problem, picking it up would cause a creak...you could even push the bezel at the bottom left corner and it would feel "mushy", as there was some slight give. I got an RMA and the replacement unit arrived yesterday. Same issue, but not as bad as the first one...there's no give on the bezel, but squeezing that left corner can produce a creak. Looking at the teardown on iFixit, I don't see what would cause this other than glue from the back or pressure on the speaker unit.
oh damn, that issue is worst than mines. Good luck on it bro
mines is just pushing in on the corner...i can pretty much live with it since i have my bumper on 24/7 but im thinking about getting a rma.
what do you guys think? rma or no?

If that's the only issue, and it's not that bad, I wouldn't rma it. The chances of getting one with something else wrong make it not worth it in my view.

yea, besides the corner issue, i have the buzzing from the earpiece as well..but other than that. everything else is perfect.

The creaking in the lower left of my N4 seems to have gotten worse. It's not a huge deal, especially since I normally keep my N4 in a TPU case, but it is annoying. Anyone else notice the same thing? I'm tempted to put a very small amount of crazy glue near where the glass and plastic meet in that corner (ever since a tiny amount of crazy glue completely fixed the screen lift problem with my N7, it's been on my mind for various fixes).
I have the same thing on the upper left corner just above the volume button. Again this is on the plastic surround. If I hold in landscape for example the area my left thumb goes lands right there and it creaks hell. However it won't do it again unless I press slightly on the glass in the same area and it clicks.
These all sound like clips or something not clicking into place.
My volume rocker was loose from day one, now the power button is getting loose the more I use it.
Poor BQ IMO.

Haha. Don't go too crazy. The creaking, at least in my case, is a minor annoyance. It's not a big deal. I've learned a long time ago that there's no such thing as a perfect phone.

When I place my nexus 4 on a flat surface, like a desk, the top left and bottom right corners wobble back and forth. This is especially annoying if I am typing as the phone will move slightly and tap the desk. I don't remember if it came this way but i am thinking it could have been due to it being in my pockets for long periods which might have warped it. Does anyone else have this?

I have the slightest wobble.
My top right and bottom left wiggle while top left and bottom right seem flush.
nope
Mine doesn't seem to wobble.

This. But ever so slightly. So slightly, in fact, that I had to put my face at table level to notice.
It could be the piece of glass over the LED flash. It seems to be separate from the rest of the back.
Cant be the led flash cause it wobbles even with the bumper case on it. I would like to try to fix it but im fearful of the possibility of cracking the back, seems to be quite fragile. Might just leave it between 2 book over night.

Yup, mine (updated version with the nipples) also wobbles top left and bottom right, both with and without the official bumper from Google. The wobble seems to be amplified with the bumper on.
I've tried to bend it back several times with quite firm force. Didn't seem to do a thing. It's not something that bothers me so much that it is worth cracking the glass trying to fix it. So I would just live with it.
I have a case on.
With case there is a very slight wobble top right to bottom left.
no wobble top left to bottom right.
without case
the wobble is much more noticeable top right to bottom left
no wobble top left to bottom right
Ok, this might be nitpicking and may cause some to roll their eyes. But regardless, something that's a little annoying to me and wondering if some/most/all S4s are like this as well. When the phone is laying on a flat surface like a table, the phone is tilted such that the right side is higher than the left. When I press the left menu button, the phone is flush with the table and there is no movement, but when I press the right back button, there is space between the phone and table and the phone wobbles as a result. Ideally, the phone should have a tiny bit of play when pressing buttons on either side, not no play on the left and a big gap on the right side.
I then removed the back cover to take that out of the equation and it does the same thing. So then I removed the battery. Now, the phone has a tiny amount of equal play when pressing buttons on either side as it should be. When looking at the battery cavity, the cutout is positioned a little towards the menu button side of the phone and as a result, puts a little more weight toward that side. Since the phone is relatively light and the camera protrusion acts like a pivoting support when the phone is laying on a flat surface, I'm guessing the weight of the battery is causing the phone to sit crooked.
Anyone can confirm? Thanks!

Yea it's getting to be a little annoying when I use the phone on a table. Whenever I hit the right side of the phone, it makes a *clack clack* sound hitting the table. My old S2 GT-I9100 seemed to have better build quality.
Did you know there is a plastic bridge that sticks out across the rear speaker mesh that is designed to stop the phone sitting down on the table surface so as to prevent the speaker being blocked?

Yea I noticed that, but in my case, taking off the back cover pretty much does the same thing. So I take it you have this same "problem" with the phone not sitting flat and wobbles when you press the right side of the screen?
No because I use a dual skin Case ie phone is not naked.

Heh sorry for making you realize a problem that you wouldn't have noticed had I not mentioned it. Yea it's as if the body is slightly tweaked or the camera assembly wasn't perfectly soldered to lie flat or something. Don't think it's completely the speaker hole bulge because it does the same thing with the back cover off too. With the battery out, it's better.
