Touch wake or pgm2 nexus... - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anybody think this feature can be enabled on the nexus4? My power button rarely ever sees any use because of pgm2 app. Slide to wake and tap to wake are a feature that needs to start seeing the light of day on phones to come. Awesome feature for those that don't know what it does.

+1. Seem PGM2 only available for Galaxy Nexus

Try using Smart Screen ON app to utilize the proximity sensor to wake the phone instead. Worked for me.

I would love this on the Nexus 4!

power button - slide to unlock

is there any way to just press on the screen to wake it up other then pressing the power button or trackball? if anyone has used an iphone i am looking for simply touch the screen to wake it up and sliding to unlock skipping trackball or power button presses. thanks.
It's possible to wake up the iPhone by touching the screen? Only for jailbroken phones? That's something I've never heard of before.
I don't think that is possible right now, Android would power down the touch sensor to save battery. Just like a stock iPhone does too.
I am interested to know how to do that on the iPhone though, I'd love to do that with my iPod Touch.
ohh thats right i forgot the iphone has to press the home button to wake it up after a long sleep. my iphone is setup to wait the longest time before going into a sleep so if i am waiting for something the backlight turns off and locks the phone but a press on the screen turns on the backlight waits to be unlocked. oh well would be cool to have on n1 though. thanks for the reply.
The program "nolock" in the market makes it so you can use either the trackball or volume buttons to wake the phone. Other than that, I think screen wake would kill your battery. Can't say for sure though.
worth trying this app thanks
Yeah, being an OLED screen, you can't just turn off the backlight. Each pixel is a light all by itself. Otherwise you could probably do the same trick.
No lock or keyguard disabler bypass or disable the lock screen. Root and running a custom rom like CM will let you double click the trackball to unlock the and wake the phone. There is also a menu unlock too.
I have no lock and I like it because its one touch and you're rolling. On the other hand the wake up on trackball also enables the volume key to wake up and I was often unintentionally waking the phone so I disabled it. Going to try the menu wake up next. No hardkey to wear out, and combined with one touch I think it might be a winner for quickly lighting up the unit without the unintended wakes.

Menu wake doesn't do what I believe you may think it does, you still have to press the power button to turn the phone on. Then you press menu to skip the lockscreen.. which in my opinion is not needed. I only said this because you said no hard key will be worn out.. but they still will.

what are you using for that?
Funny that because I just went to go hunt that one down and found that you are indeed correct, it only acts as an alternative to slide to unlock, it does not wake up the phone. Sigh.

Ya ninja'ed me. I use a free market program called No Lock. Pretty much as its name implies it removes the requirement to slide to unlock, can be toggled. One touch of whatever you are using to wake it up and you are off to the races. A must have for types like me that dont use a lock and would prefer to wake and go. The app does have one niggle. It remembers my setting but at every restart and have to toggle it to get it to work.
sounds like i must dl it and worth pressing 1 button to wake up without sliding to unlock.

yes i must say it works well. i didnt even try the no luck. it also has more reviews fyi. im keeping it. it also has an addon for something idle. im guessing that idle addon disabled the mylock to enter your security after an x amount of sleep time has passed. sounds ok if u want security enabled i guess but most pay a few cents for it. not for me at this point.

Alternative way to turn on / wake screen (capacitive buttons / accelerometer)

Hi guys,
Got my Desire HD last Friday and I'm really pleased with it, stunning device. The problem is, I'm using a case which protects the phone nicely and looks decent too but the power button is very tough to press in (let alone without a case TBH). I have Cyangens "Menu Unlock" enabled but I'm wondering if there is a tweak or APK to enable the capacitive buttons when the screen is off so I can turn it on easily (using Button Remapper). Maybe even a shake to enable app to wake the phone. Oh, cover below:
When I had the Galaxy S, I could just wake the screen with the main physical Home button.
When I had the Milestone, there was an APK to allow me to wake the screen with the buttons.
Any help or direction would really be appreciated. Would love to be able to unlock it that easily.
Cheers #auggie2k

Buttons will be disabled when phone is asleep. The closest is to try "Tap Tap App" from the Market. Its free. Try and see how it could give you possibilities. Basically, it will allow you to set lock/wake permissions using the proximity sensor.
I use it as an alternative to pressing the power button all the time during shorter phone sleep/wake intervals
Much appreciated Jacob, cheers for the quick reply.
You can try WidgetLocker too, allow you to power up the phone using volume button.

Its possible without much battery drain I remember using Pocketshield with the HD2 where it unlocks when you flip the phone facedown and up or shake from side to side. Seems they're still hung up on Windows till now... I hope they come around to turn to Android soon

You're welcome mate! Test the proximity settings, I used to use "Easy Detection" but found it too sensitive, it unlocks with short finger waves which was cool but also gets screwed up with strong winds when outdoors... lol
Since, I've changed the setting to "safe mode (default)" and it responds well to 2 mild taps. Hope it works for you too!

[Q] Alternative way to turn on Nexus device? [REQ]

Im trynna keep my power/volume rockers away from constantly pressing it + with the poetic case its awkward.
is there an app that lets you to turn on your screen without having to press the buttons?
For example saying "Nexus" and your screen lights up?
You mean from sleep or from power off?
pgm aka slide2wake, needs kernel support
From sleep

I use "Screen Control" by MYDIGITA, which uses the N10's accelerometer to wake up the device. Just give it a shake. It is not perfect but works well enough.

I'd also look into Tasker app. For example - I'm sure you could make it wake when headphones are inserted, etc...

Last week I changed from using "Screen Control" to a free app called "Gravity Screen Off" by Plexnor, after reading an XDA review. The reason I like Gravity Screen Off more than Screen Control is that it keeps the screen from turning when reader long text as it detects slight movements on the N10. That meant I could uninstall an app I had to used with Screen Control called "KeepScreen". Simply put, Gravity Screen Off does the job of two apps and does it better.

Possible to wake phone by moving it?

I read that someone disabled the feature to wake the phone by approaching it. They said they had it set so the phone would wake only when they grabbed/moved it.
Is this possible? From what I have read, the wave to wake feature is actually gone. It has been replaced by the reach to wake feature.
My question is this. Can I disable the phone from waking when my hand goes near it, while having the phone wake when I physically move it? Someone mentioned they can wake the phone by tapping, since this would cause the phone to move. I would like to do this too. Thanks.

I just tested this for you. You disable moto notifications from reacting when you reach for the phone but it still turns on once picked up. So yes.

Tap/knock on?

Just wondering if the s7 will have a knock on feature to turn the phone on without pressing the power button. Haven't seen this mentioned anywhere. Thank you.
Why would you need that?
Just press the home button... It is one click instead of two for a knock on...

Also, it has always-on display mode now. Which means just touching the screen alone will turn it on.
The always on thing doesn't appeal to me, I'm glad it can be turned off.

It doesn't. At least the one I was playing around with didn't unlock by touching the screen once. It's possible that is also a software thing can be turned on and off.
I didn't check to see if tapping the screen would wake it up, but I believe it does have the feature, but I personally would prefer just using the home button or power button.

Not sure why the type of display would matter.
I had the feature on my Note 4 through a mod. So I believe it's more accelerometer based as well. The LG G3 need the feature because of the god awful placement of the only button that could wake the device. The S7 doesn't really need it because of the home/power button.
I come from the LG G2 and if there is something missing on the S7/Edge, it is the Knock-On feature. I got very used to it, it's great in the car while the phone is in the cradle, etc.

Not odd at all. The idea of unlocking a phone by simply touching the screen is less then ideal. Just picking the phone up would end up unlocking it. No thanks.

My N6 does not do that. Never had a problem with it.
EDIT: Actually it just wakes the screen. Not fully unlock, still have to swipe to unlock.
Which happens to be the exact same result as pressing the power button. So I guess OPs' question is halfway answered.
I'm hoping it will have some sort of this feature. Coming from an LG G2 and G3, I absolutely love the double tap feature.
As another posted stated, I use it in my car a LOT and where it's mounted I can easily lightly double tap the screen whereas having to physically depress the home button would likely take more effort.
It won't... None of the Samsung phones do...

Galaxy S7 (edge) supports D2TW for the "Alway on" mode.
This means:
- Display off
- Double Tap
--> Screen show "always on" content, for example the clock
You can't double tap and unlock your phone.

Funny, that's not a problem with LG phones. You need to tap the screen twice in close succession. Just touching the screen won't turn it on.
Why not?

The people here with all the defense about DT2W (double-tap-to-wake). Its a feature by default on many phones with large screens now - LG, Asus and many others.
And just like any other feature, it can be simply "switched off". It will only read a double-tap if the proximity sensor is not blocked. So pocket-taps are not accounted for.
The advantage of it is mainly when its lying on the table and you dont need to grasp the phone to look at notifications. The secondary advantage is that it will greatly reduce wear & tear on the buttons. I love this feature. DT2W will get you to the lockscreen. If you want to fully unlock it, you'll have to find a hack for it, or disable the lockscreen altogether.
Pressing a button is much more difficult than tapping the screen twice. You'll know it once you have it.

Seriously? "much more difficult" Are you physically handicapped? I had an LG with tap to wake, now I have an S7 Edge. Neither is "difficult," and I don't have to "grasp the phone" to look at notifications. I can press the home button while the phone is sitting on a table just as easily as I could double tap the screen on the LG.
Double tap is convenient, but the lack of it is hardly a deal breaker. Grow up and stop with the hyperbole.

No.
It would likely require a custom kernel to have the digitizer active without the screen on.

Despite your unnecessarily offensive expression of opinion, I still stand by mine. Its certainly not a deal breaker. But if a kernel implements this, I would go for it without a second though.
