Does anyone know if the wireless charging will work with any case on the phone? Or does this feature require no case to function with the charging orb that Google demonstrated in the video.

Well it probably depends on the size, but I presume it won't work for most if not all cases, since proximity is pretty key for it, not only for holding it in place (in case of the official accessory) but also for charging.

I figured it probably would not work. I was going to purchase this phone for my gf, but she is very clumsy and absolutely needs a case.

It shouldn't affect the wireless charging of the phone. Something that's multi-layered like the Otterbox Defender might, but that may be more a problem with the case being too thick to allow the magnetic base to hold the phone in place, rather than the charging current not being able to get through. And remember, you can still charge it via the included USB cord and plug (although I'd rather use the wireless charging myself, just because I've never had that on a phone before). :good:
somewhat off topic, but it applies to cases. android beam requires two devices to touch, so will android beam still work even with a case on the phone?

NFC has a further range than wireless charging.
Everyone is saying the magnet will hold it in place...It might not be the case with Google Nexus 4 inductive charging orb. Matías Duarte mentioned how cool it was that you got inductive charging and the rubber on the orb which made the back glass stay put....

I just noticed this on my Note. It's not bad and you can't see it unless you look for it but I'd imagine it would get worse over time.
Here's the problem. The Note moves as you're using it in the dock and the stand is hard plastic so it leaves abrasions.
Here's the fix (from Lowe's)
I use the OEM dock and am not seeing any abrasion, yet, but thanks for the tip.

I use it also and don't see any but I think I will apply these just to be safe. Thx BH
What is the universal dock capable of other than acting as a stand? How much n where can you buy them from?
I have three of the docks and my Note spends a lot of time in them. That may be why I'm showing more wear than you guys.
I got mine at MacMall for $29.99 all in. Shipping is free and 2-day if you belong to ShopRunner. It's pretty much a stand but it has a 3.5MM out jack to plug speakers in to it. The old docks were made to fit each size tablet and provided better support. The new one also has the Note sitting pretty upright compared to the old one. Demandarin, BB has them in stock in Alexandria for $34.99 if you want to see it first.

got mine at best buy and also use an HDMI plug which i piggy back to the back of this. I pretty much do all of my charging on it and moovie watching as well as listen to my music. It was about $35 at BB. I think the HDMI was about $22 on amazon. I will look for a link.
I went and got a notebook 'skin'.. those lightly adhesive decoration sheets meant to put on the lid of laptops and netbooks and carefully cut it to match the Note and stuck it on there... mainly because I'd heard so much about the Note's back being 'soft'.
So the dock would only scratch the sticky.
My biggest complaint about the dock is that you can't charge AND sync at the same time. It would have been nice to have a USB connection on this too.
Since no ones mentioned hdmi output in any of these docks, im assuming because there is'nt one, but just incase, does anyone know or own a compatible note dock with hdmi output?
HDMI would have to run through the charging port via a dongle so a charging dock won't do it without an additional adapter. Any other type of dock you can just flip the tab over and use the dongle.

I've been using the universal dock as a stand for about an hour a day and haven't noticed any scratches, but thanks for posting this! I'll keep an eye on mine. I got the dock at Best Buy (at the time, they were about the only ones locally who had it in stock), because the regular stand I was using didn't accomodate the thin-ness of the Note very well and I was afraid of it landing on the floor one day.

Update: the charger seems to be switching on and off keeping the screen on at times. Wait before you run to get one, might just be a 1 off but this is not working right.

Update 2: when the phone is off it charges fine, but when its on it keeps switching on and off, must be software related, any ideas?
By 'Off' do you mean actually powered totally off or in standby/screen off?

Completely OFF is the only way to charge wirelessly, otherwise it just keeps charing on and off. I went back to the store and tried on the matt on display and same thing happened, only the screen kept flickering very quickly and had to turn it off.
Confused.

It's either a software glitch or when the screen is on, the phone demands more power, and the Nokia charger cannot provide enough. Now, the latter is probably not the case.

Hi guys,
I just got done modding my Note 2 to do wireless charging and I'm extremely happy about it!
It is super easy and simple. Unscrew the back, solder copper tapes on the terminals that already exist.
It would have taken me 5 minutes if I had a good soldering iron... Mine sucked really bad (the tip wouldn't heat up right) so it took more like 10 minutes.
Here is a Youtube link to a nice tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rDSyjl_2CXo
Here is a cheap wireless tag + charger for Note 2 from China for $50. Took 2 weeks to get here. (Cheapest I could find for both coil and charger) It works great. Charging distance is 5mm and output is 1000mA. Not fast but good enough.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/170995097433?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
When you get the wireless tag you just need to heat up the terminals and take them off. You can leave the terminals on, but it's pretty thick, adds about 1-2mm of thickness so you'll need to buy a bigger cover to use it without taking them off. Tutorial here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J5bnenaI86I&feature=youtu.be
The wireless tag adds very slight bulk, maybe a slight curve where it bulges out the most, but the regular backing will close and it's barely noticeable. Especially since I use my Note II in a case I won't ever see it. It may bug some people that don't use any case or cover.

Here is my Note II charging.
I found that wireless charging on a flat surface was actually too big of a hassle... I had to position it right and trying to operate the phone while charging was difficult because it would slide off.
This was what I had in mind when I did the mod, to have it in a stand. I had a Belkin Flipblade stand, so I put the charging plate there and now all I need to do is slip the phone in it. (I had to attach some stuff in front to keep the Note from sliding off the stand as you can see)
I did this mod because I wanted to be able to sit in front of my desk, slip the phone on a stand which will automatically start charging, and listen to music through my Logitech speakers wirelessly. (Bluetooth audio receiver is on its way as I write...)
Charging plate
This notification pops up every time I put the Note on the charger. I'd like to get rid of this notification but I don't know how... No big deal, though.
Also another thing is, keeping the screen on while charging option doesn't work with wireless charging and this really bugs.. I guess I'll have to do some search to do this.
Anyway just wanted to show off..
looks great, i have the same charging pad, let me try diy a dock station with that like u!
Also I downloaded Tasker to keep screen on while charging. Works like a charm!

You know what.. I thought I was posting a forum specific to Verizon Note II...
How long does it take to fully charge?
Hi there, thought i might post another little Mod that came into my mind
We all know that the Xperia-Z ist not quite an endurance runner when it comes to Battery-Life and i guess most here will most-likely have a power-bank with them, just in case.
Problem with that is, the o-rings are prone to damage due to opening the flaps all over again.
This is most-likely also a main-reason for water-damaged devices, you know it, i know it, and Sony knows that too.
So lets see what we can do to that dockingstation, so that we get a mobile Power-bank Dock.
Its actually plain simple, you simply get yourself a so called "EasyAcc 3000mah U-Bright"-Powerbank, this Powerbank fits easily centered unto the Back of the Dockingstation without being distinguishable looking at it from the front side, and if you dont know the Dockingstation even sideways.
The Dimensions:
Topside of the Sony Dock : 14,4cm x 3cm
Easyacc 3000mah U-Bright : 10,7cm x 2,2cm
A picture of the Easyacc:

which would basically go behind the XperiaZ, and look like this Illustration:
The way you fix it in place would be really up to you, probably glued, or by using neodym-magnets, or probably even some Velcro or zip-ties.
Other than that you just really need a really short usb/-to/microusb-cable that goes from the Power-bank to the Micro-USB-Port
Hope this probably is useful for one or another!
Thanks.
That's actually not a bad idea!

Does anyone know what the voltage/current specs of the dock that connects via the 2 connections on the left side?
Do you mean polarity or really only the specs e.g. Voltage/Amps? The dock itself has an output of 5V/1,8A which is kinda funny as the default Sony-charger is rated 5V/1,5A
The mentioned Easyacc Powerbank outputs up to 5V/2,1A without (verified) getting hot.
Hope this might help

If you are holding your phone horizontal with the connectors facing down (like you would put it in the dock), well then:
LEFT-> POSITIV
RIGHT-> Is negative.
Its actually even marked on the Dockingstation itself, in case you have the Dockingstation

Not quite true.
While a metal shield decreases the coupling between the primary and secondary coils, there are now wireless charging methods that work even with a metal-covered device.

There was a rumour (can't find it now) that the 6P would support Rezence, which I believe could work even with a metal-backed phone.
I don't know if that rumour has been confirmed, though.
Aww man. I've just bought a new qi charger too. I'm guessing one of the adapters should work fine though.
I just want the damn thing to work with my Air Dock. This is by far the best mounting solution for a car if you have Qi
Rather than wait for QUALCOMM with wireless charging through metal, I would rather like to see QUALCOMM or A4WP to release their Rezence standard product into the market, they have products available for the past 1-3 years, but none has made them onto the consumer market, I was offered a test sample a few year back, but I rejected it due to the contract associated with the test, I was told that because of certain reasons, that's why it was never allowed to be released on to the consumers market as of today.
Hopefully they can get their stuff out soon.
No Wireless charging..

I'm losing interest in the new 6p by the day.
Hopefully there will be some wireless adapters available soon for USB type-c.
Not gonna happen - http://www.androidpolice.com/2015/0...6p-and-5x-wont-have-wireless-charging-either/ which is fine by me I never use it on my current N6
Wireless charging gets my Nexus 6 waaay too hot. Waking up to a smoking phone was the last straw. Goodbye & good riddance to inefficient charging.
It heats up a bit, but not too much. I love the convenience of just putting it down every night.
Cant believe both handsets are not getting wireless charging. I think its great, esp being able to charge your phone in a coffee shop without needing a plug and charger cable!
I use my TYLT charger to read all day in the office while I'm working. I don't understand why the lack of such a great feature. With the USB C addition it might take a while for wireless charging receivers to be available. So glad my current Nexus 6 is awesome enough to be worth keeping. Maybe the MotoX Pure might deserve a second look...
Sent from my Nexus 6
The reasoning is the device charges faster with USB-C cables is lame.
Go home set my Nexus 6 on my Qi Pad and it charges, do not really care if it charges fast.

My Nexus 6 NEVER gets hot while wirelessly charging. Its a great convenience and a big mistake not having this feature on the 6P. This is one of the reasons I cancelled my order for the 6P.

I agree and I'm keeping my order for me. I've been on M previews since day one daily driving. Once the OTA hits I'll still have a month to test and use this one and if need be I can cancel before they actually ship. If the last releases are any indicator we can probably keep it and sell for a profit. Win win
