Spot the difference - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What is the difference between the LGN4 vs the Optimus on ATT other than the LTE?
Hardware wise...
I am wondering if I should get a Optimus or a LGN4....
Worried about future roms, compatibility with drivers support etc...
Could anybody with deeper knowledge explain?

if u care bout ROM, go to Nexus one.
Nexuss is Google's sons.
i mean, Nexus devices is exclusively from Google, but made in from some manufacturers, like Galaxy Nexus from Samsung.
so Google will update their nexus as fast as they released the newest OS. CMIIW

This. Also, the LTE, radios and MicroSD card inclusion would slow down ports. It's REALLY close, but not identical.

Nexus: Cheaper, Google Exclusive (Gets updates first), Plenty of Dev support, Cheaper, Vanilla Android, Cheaper, No contract.

You think manufactures would still be fighting a couple months before launch?
This phone has probably been out in google development for the past 6 months.
That being said the specs have probably constantly been improving

Don't see how HTC, LG, etc can compete against Samsung hardware wise.
Hmm.. i like.. now waiting what would be the final spec of Prime. Firmware wise, I'm not too concern as it's google phone. But more concern on it's hardware. Will it trash S2 or upcoming ip5 based on hardware?

I think hardware wise,it will not be very different from SGSII.But we may see a better display
I think samsung has edge over htc and LG in terms of hardware manufacturing and also samsung has great and efficient distribution and retail chain that can deliver phone even in remotest area of earth

Soon to be nexus s owner..

As the title implies, I will be acquiring a nexus s soon. I currently have an epic 4g I'm trading even to this girl that hates touchscreens lol
Anywho, I love my epic. I'm sure ill love the nexus s also. I was hoping to get some input as to where this community is at the developing stage. What some of you guys are most excited about, and what kind of performance and experience you guys are getting from your modded nexus'.
Cheers!

I was wondering about that lol. I noticed there are 2 development forums now for both the GSM and cdma versions so it should be relatively easy. I just have to translate what I know from the epic to the ns4g as I'm sure they're somewhat similar when it comes to flashing them.

I doubt I will lol like I said I love this phone. The keyboard is awesome. But I'd rather give it up for a thinner phone I can put a case on and it won't feel like my old HTC tytn2. CM7 is super stable and is at a code freeze so only small bug fixes are being made. The website for the Linux kernel source was hacked and until that has been verified no files were harmed no new nightlies can be compiled. Nightly 95 is the latest and is awesome.

Are you sure its the GPS that has issues or is it the compass? There is a known issue with the compass on the Nexus S. Not sure when it'll be addressed, but Samsung/Google are definitely aware.

that's two drivers that have to change. porting it from the internation version shouldn't be hard. I'm staying with this buggy unofficial version on my EVOLTE cause I can't stand Sense or TouchWiz
I might stay stock until jellybean comes out, and I have a feeling our guys will do a pretty good port on it.
try this for now, if it's gui stuff
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746427
I believe CM has already announced that as soon as Jelly Bean source is out (since they're already at RC status with CM9), they will stop development on CM9 and go forward with CM10.
From the CM Google+ page: Our goal is to release a stable CM 9.0.0 (and any needed .1’s). After that, we will work on CM7 and CM10 only. As stated above, CM9 devices are highly likely to get CM10, so maintaining a separate class of devices for CM9 only is inefficient.
Now back to the original post: I also miss CM9. I think CM9 is far superior to TouchWizz. Once CM9/10 is released for my GS3, I'm rooting and switching.
I will also likely never buy anything but a Nexus phone in the future, and in some ways, regret not purchasing one this time. The only saving grace is that buying a Nexus and switching to a T-Mobile Value plan would have only saved me $5 per month due to my grandfathered plan, so it's actually cheaper in the long run for me to get the GS3 on contract.
In my opinion, the galaxy s3 is way better than the nexus, even with the nexus running jelly bean.

Sadly I think I agree with pig vomit. I miss my captivate running pure ics.
Can't wait for some Jelly Bean hotness. I'd certainly settle for pure ics for now
By the time they release a CM10 for our phone the next Nexus will be out. Rumor has it Google will introduce 5 Nexus models this year. Let's hope that's true. I learned that with Android phones if you really want good rom development you need a Nexus or wait for months on end for a decent rom like CM.

Yep, same here. While Touchwiz isn't my favourite, I can definitely manage using it for another month or two until CM10 is released. At that point, I don't think I can wait for Samsung's ridiculously slow updates to make its way to me.

I'm leaning note2 myself. Not a huge lg fan at all. I've thought about sgs3 but why take a 4 month old phone over a newer faster handset.

The only thing making want to go to the SG3 is that I can afford it right now. That Wirefly deal is sweet. It'll be sometime next year before the note 2 is as affordable on wirefly and by then, I'll be able to just buy it and sell the SG3

We are moving directly to 4.4. I dont like to discuss timing. It just puts a lot of stress on the team, and there is always a chance we find something which delays us a bit.
Rest assured, we are on it. You have seen the speed with which we are moving as a Google company, that shall continue.

They have broken the applications apart from the os and put them in the play store. Consistently updated their applications. Reached out to the developers in the community for suggestions. Have addressed a new concern of mine with the announcement of skipping 4.3. Saying that they haven't done anything is a bit of a stretch.

I went from an OG Droid (amazing, started my love for android), Droid 2 (meh), Droid 3 (meh), Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy S4, now the Moto X. I kind of feel the way I did about the OG Droid with the Moto X. If Moto keeps pushing out quality phones like the X, with fairly timely updates, I'm going to stick with them. Hopefully Google and Motorola don't let us down

i dont mind this at all.
i mean i don't get caught up in the version numbers per se, but the features.
i honestly am not really sure what is so different about 4.2 and even 4.1 other than it hink some stuff in the settings bar is slightly different. 4.3 added trim support natively but from the anandtech review i know moto backported that to their version of 4.2.2. so that doesnt matter either.
4.4 at least i figure is a big enough jump. before the moto x i was using a razr M on 4.1.2 and honestly i can barely tell the difference OS wise between any of these (and i had 4.3 on a nexus 7 for a while, honestly all the jelly bean labeled 4.1-4.3 variants are basically the same)
