Theme source? - Windows 8 General

So, I searched the general sub-forum and a standard google search didn't quite yield what appear to be reliable resources. I have a great black theme for W7 and obviously it doesn't quite work for W8. Thank-you again Microsoft for giving us the shaft. Now, as I hate browsing my computer and being blinded by the whiteness, I would like a working theme that isn't pink fluffy bunnies for efing flowers.
So, does anyone know of a good resource for W8 themes? Deviant art doesn't appear to have anything yet.

The OS came out just over a week ago. Somebody should come out with something soon enough.

Did you already look through these?
Here's is a very plain, black Windows 8 theme.

OK, since describing what I'm looking for isn't clear I am including a screenshot of my Windows 7 theme which doesn't function on Win 8, it only changes the color and doesn't touch the window background:

My first today theme for herald

Here is my first theme made for the Herald. I'm new to this so I've begun by modifying the default htc touch theme and made it darker (close to black) and changed it a bit. Hope someone likes it.
damn......nobody postes screen shoots
it's like the basic dark grey-black htc theme for touch with some modifications to look better (In my opinion at least).
I'll check it out. I've been looking for a darker/better looking version of that theme. I can't post screenies yet, but I'll give a review.

Oh wow hey this is great man! I LOVE the blue text!
What I think would really make it look better is if you could make the theme match Schap's 2G dialer. Possible make the greys look less monotone. I'm not saying add pinks and crap to it, but make it less grey and more black, with some grey contrasts to it. Hard to explain what I mean, but basically the text adds some much needed color, and I think the greys could be changed to do the same, but only staying withing the black/grey spectrum.
The only thing I do not like is the background wallpaper. Something smoother and darker would be nice, maybe mix in some of the same blue color you've got on the text with it. Dunno.
Does any of that make sense?
Overall, I like it, and am going to use it until you release another one.
You're on the money with this one. Taking what's already out, tweaking it, and making it better. Excellent.
Your theme looks fairly decent. The text color in the start menu is blue as well.
THX I like it!
thank you all for the apreciation.
I'm thinking of making a new theme, but currently looking for ideas. Does any of you have some ideas about some color combinations and background pictures? I'll make the theme and then i will upload it here. Any sugestions are welcomed.
Get rid of the grey shades. I hate grey and black together. Very dull. Keep the blue text, it looks great! I think a background image with some planets, or stars, or nebulae or something would be sweet with such a dark theme.
Make it a space theme!

Ok, we'll go to space However, complex coloured images on the today screen may affect the text readability. I'll try my first space theme with a background image of the moon or some other bunch of planets laying arround.
The trouble with themes is that you can't satisfy all people because their different opinions regarding the ideal theme.
Ahh true. It's all good, make what you like, and to hell with everyone else!

RVM, I didn't put it that way. If I were to make a theme for myself I wouldn't need to upload it and just download again. Also I wouldn't have any need to comment it with people since I've made it to best suit my needs.
On the other hand I'm not that much into space themes. Personally I don't think a 320x240 screen with lots of text on it, can express the complexity of space (stars, planets, some dust&stuff) or at least not in the same manner like your average desktop. However I'll try this (or other themes) in order to to find out if it suits other people.
Regarding Theme?
Quick question Guys, where are you Guys placing the theme at. Exactly in which folder should I say. I downloaded a theme over the net and can"t figure out where to place it. Thanks for your help People...
^^Its very easy. Just place it in the first folder that comes up when you activesync.
This is a very nice theme. Im looking forward to more from you

Possible to port sliding today screen to 6.1 pro?

Anyone got the know-how to try this? It would open up some new looks on our devices. Its arguably one of the better things in the 6.1 update.

don't think i got your point
like in ultimate launcher?
no i think he means the today screen from wm6.1 smartphones. (which is very nice)
I havent seen it on wm pro
Yes, separate it out and make it an installable cab as a today screen replacement or addition. It looks really nice, and usability is better than the original.
This should be possible since they both are based on the same OS. Just a matter of finding and extracting.. I dont have the know-how, but would love this.
I also have not seen anyone else mention this. That is why I started this thread.
I believe it has been brought up in reference to the T-Mobile Shadow today screen that can usually be found under the keyword "neo theme". I haven't seen any ports myself either and I know I would definitely use it especially if it was the neo theme from the shadow. I would love to install the "Freddy Shadow Neo Black Theme". My daughter had a shadow and damn that theme was nice.
Omg. Yes. I've been looking for a port of it too. I'm so jealous. It looks really nice. But then again, it might look weird since smartphone screens are much smaller.
well it'd be really neat, but since we have rectangle screens it'd be very different for us to have something like that
If anyone is wondering about what this is, or more, here is a blog from one of the WM developers who had a hand in creating this:
http://blogs.msdn.com/windowsmobile/archive/2008/06/03/customizing-the-sliding-panel-homescreen.aspx
Maybe something like this could be created using TodayLife, I think that's the one I'm thinking of.

Actually, neo is different , thats what shadows used before 6.1. The sliding panels are great to use, but they have lots of limits too. If you duplicate them with another program like TodayLife, then you would have much more room to configure. And you can't add plugins into sliding panels, you can only manipulate the ones included.

[SKIN] In progress... - QVGA - "PreOneS" The Palm Pre Style for WM

I read that Palm makes a legal war against the palm pre theme, so to avoid copyright issues and waiting news to take off the skin

Preview looks good....
what are you using to skin this?
nice....will keep an eye on the progress of this skin...

1. WAD
2. WAD desktop
3. iphone today
In this way the top bar webos style is always present!
Updated preview
It looks fantastic. Great job. Are you going to make a VGA-Version?
I don't think it would be that complicated. The PalmPre's homescreen is basically a big TaskManager. We already have "similar" apps on Windows Mobile like that on the Xperia. Just make a homescreen plugin with a large task manager like interface with the same touch gestures as the Pre. The complicated part I would imagine would be the menu.
I like your skins, but it would be best as a simple homescreen plugin. Using WAD and the likes eats up memory and the way it overlays sucks.
I'm not a programmer but there are lots of open-source projects that, if combined, could provide roughly the same effect. I think someone with some know-how could come up with it pretty quick by reusing code that is already available out there.

Before starting this project I tried a lot but none of the programmers built an interface palm webos like for WM. There are iphone, android, and other but webos not so I decided to build it yourself.
I hope very much that any programmer to engage in this project and does a better job of mine!

Looking good. Here's my little take on it. Using a modded PointUi
Slightly off-topic tip: I suggest Omnia users should use PointUi 2.0.28e if they want their phone/clock to function poperly. Any other higher version causes the clock to stick and (possibly) corrupt the green button.
subscribed!
hopefully vga support soon
WOW super nice. very clean. hope the release will be soon definately going to donate for this
WOW nice man, ill use this when it comes out. is this another wad theme?

Graphic guidelines and app design.

Hey this is my first post here. I've been using a nexus one for a while now and I downloaded quite a few applications. I have to say thought that I was quite disappointed by the graphical diversity that lingers around the android platform. As a vfx artist I like my phone to work but also to look nice and sometimes the two things are not present in android.
So I was wondering if someone is interested in writing down some guidelines to better UI designs and maybe provide developers with some graphical help. My idea was not to copy the iphone ui or the new windows mobile 7 but to take what Google has done and expand it to provide cleaner and more interesting UIs to apps.
What do you guys think, is anyone on board for this?
Sadly, I think that this is probably the largest problem on Android devices. The huge inconsistency of the UI throughout makes Android devices hard to use when compared to, say, an iPhone. For example, the stock GMail app has a white background against black text, but the stock Email app has a black against white background. Both apps have essentially the same functions but the way to perform those functions and manage their settings are completely different.

Well, I was trying to come up with a good example but I guess that it didn't come across as such. I guess another example is the camera application. I mean, its UI and design looks completely different from all the other applications...
I don't mind applications to have totally different designs as long as they are intuitive and make sense in the context of the application and I think a lot of them don't.
It's true though that some more general guidelines like the one they have for the iphone would help some developers to not only keep consistency but also keep the design relevant to the tasks provided by the app.
What do you guys prefer? I think android strenght could be a custom design for each app as long as it's intuitive, a perfectly good example is the gallery application introduced in 2.1
Here are some ideas:

There is a link there to a good pdf (the link in the question over stackoverflow is dead): https://island.byu.edu/files/AndroidHIG.pdf
Though, it isn't complete but it could be a good base.

What does everyone think of the 2013 beta xda theme?

Just switched to it myself and I rather like it,will take some getting used to but it seems alot more feature packed.
So what are your views on the new theme?
(if you don't know how to switch to it scroll to the bottom of a page and in the left corner you will see theme changer switch to 2013 beta)
I'm not fan of the 2010 or 2013 Beta - the XDA Classic suits me and I've been using it since the beginning. The new themes have a too "White" effect for my taste - while the Classic theme is plain and simple for browsing. Just my opinion...
I wonder how many people are using the new themes vs the classic one.
XDA 2013 Beta
I like the 2013 beta. Thanks for pointing it out. The Portal Posts on the right hand side is cool. They should scroll with the page though.
Also, browser resizing is causes some issues. There is a lot of left to right scrolling going on if I don't have my browser in full screen. All in all, a worthy upgrade to the visual styling of XDA.
I had to hit XDA Classic for a moment and whoa... I think I was just transported to 2006!
I didn't know this. Just switched the theme (on the bottom of each page). I like it because the FB, G+, YT-Icons are not wasting space.
And it looks great. Thanks for this hint.
Feels nice .. noticed it only after your post ..
Thanks for letting us know mate...
It is very nice and clean
I don't like the font it's too narrow and difficult to read
After using it for a while I am not to sure I like the grey on white... something is missing, but after all it is only a beta so we shall have to see how the theme develops!
I like it but feel that its somehow to cluttered. Maybe some work on the colour scheme would help correct this. Still really like it though
Thanks for pointing it out, haven´t seen it yet.
What I like:
- Specs in the device "root" directory - just a nice addon!
- Portal posts on the right side - nice!
What I dislike:
- yellow buttons (e.g. "quote")...much too distracting color!
- my eyes are getting tired by the font
All in all: The "old" style is very effectice and clean...the beta seems to be too colorful & distracting for me

Yeah, the flat grey reminds me of something from the 90s, which is no bueno. I also think it's way to cluttered at the moment, and they should concentrate on making it easy to use and more streamlined.
But it's still beta, and clearly unfinished, so i guess we'll just have to wait and see.
I don't like it so I switched back to XDA 2010. The 2013 theme seems like it was made in the early 2000s, with its cluttered UI and white/grey tone.
I like the idea, it's very modern, but it's too white. It kind of hurts my eyes after all the years looking at the other design haha.
didn't know it was out.
Will try and let you know
I like it, except for the device picture and specs in the root directory.
It looks nice, but every time I go to the root directory to switch between subforums, I have to scroll down to go to the sub forum I want to read.
I would guess 99% of the people that frequent these forums know the specs of the device they are reading about.
Hell I use the original one...the newer ones are too bright for my eyes.
Sent from my GT-N7000
Not too bad but needs more definition
In general the theme is pretty good but as others have mentioned it is very white.
In my opinion the pale nature makes it more difficult to seperate between the various elements of the page. This in turn makes it more difficult for the eye to quickly find the information that it is looking for ie the contents of each post.
I also agree that the page becomes difficult to read after a while due to the combination of the colours and the font/fontsize.
Cheers Roy
Not really a fan of the sidebar. Apart from that, looks clean. 7/10, would use.
