So I am going to get the N4 from the play store as soon as its available.
I have a galaxy S2 with TMobile now. I've put it up for sale and have a buyer all lined up. How do I activate the N4? Will there be a place for my to put my SIM card in? Will I have to take the phone to TMobile?

there's nothing to activate, just make sure your SIM card is a microsim. If it isn't then I suggest ordering a 3$ micro sim cutter from amazon, or go to T-mobile and see if they're willing to give you a micro sim.

Haha, I don't think I'll get a micro sim or a micro sim cutter. I'm cutting it with scissors LOL. But it probably would be a good idea to go to att and ask for a micro sim so I could keep the original to go back in my old phone if the N4 sucks, butI doubt it will...so I'm still cutting it with scissors

You don't have to take it to T-Mobile. I just called Customer Support (611) this evening and told them I'm getting an unlocked phone to upgrade my current line and need a micro SIM for it, and they are mailing me one free. (They'll do expedited shipping if you pay for it.) When you get your Nexus 4, just call 611 again or go to www.t-mobile.com/sim to activate it. No scissors, no cutter, and no trip to the store necessary.
Just talked to the tmobile rep. I can go to any tmobile store and get a micro sim card free of charge at any time.

Funny thing. I just called them asking that exact statement, they said unfortunetly they cannot ship just the micro sim card, only with a new phone. I asked to speak to a manager and got transfered to the accessories department. They went on to tell me they don't deal with that and I need to go in store WITH THE DEVICE.

That's because you were the guy who escalated to a manager. Trust me on this, I've worked call centers. Just be polite, say thanks anyways and call back. You'll get someone else and they may have a different tune. Having been on the other end of the phone, no matter how nice or polite you are, if you "ask to speak to a manager" you are labeled instantly as a ****.

Never said you did it right away, but the fact you did at all is the point. Not trying to step on toes, just giving some call center tips to help you get what you are looking for. I won't go into it as this isn't the place for it, but feel free to PM me if you are interested in some good tips.
Activating for myself will involve dropping in with my N4 to Telus retail and picking up a microSIM as my current phone uses a regular SIM. Store has it listed for 10$, but we'll see if I can talk it down. I don't want to deal with cutting the SIM.

Careful with that, friend did it with a printout template and it wouldn't work on the HTC One X because it was off by a very small amount. Even despite trying tape/etc it still wouldnt make proper contact.

Huh, strange. I wouldn't have expected that, given how straightforward and easy it was when I called. I said, "I'm buying an unlocked phone and need a micro SIM for it," and the agent just asked which line I was putting it on and how soon I needed it, then confirmed that the order had been placed; couldn't have been easier. Oh, well, YMMV, I guess. (And we'll see how well it works when I get the phone -- it's possible that it was easy because it was wrong! Worst case, I have to hop in the car for the 20-minute drive down to the T-Mobile store.)
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B9sVFJA8a_BUcnR3bG9nVWFiRmc/edit?pli=1
Does this not look easier than any option to anybody? If it goes wrong, then you can go through the trouble of getting a sim and activating it, but I think cutting is definitely worth a try.

yes it come with micro sim card when you get phone
AT&T did not send one with mine so I had to go to the AT&T store to get one
It should come with one -T-Mobile
Can't imagine a LTE phone requiring a micro SIM not including one... the online store pages for both t-mo and AT&T state that a microSIM is included in the box.
Do any other LTE capable phones have micro SIM yet?

Mine came with one, i'm with AT&T. I just got an email from BB showing my receipt, they ended up comping the phone for me due to the fiasco with the preorder/launch...the receipt shows $29.99 for the sim, but again, I paid nothing. That being said, i'm not sure if they are charging for it or not.

LOL, it happens.
After adding a line to get this phone, I now have a spare microSIM and regular SIM....can't really do anything with them, right?
CDMA versions apparently come with non replaceable microsims burried somewhere deep inside the phone.
OK so I have a quick question. Right now I own an HTC amaze which uses a mini sim card. Since my Nexus 4 is coming today I'll need to get a micro sim card. Do I just go to my local T-Mobile and get one? Do they charge? Also do I have to have the device with me? Or can I just go in without my nexus 4 and get the micro sim card?
Thanks.

You don't have to take your phone with you. And i've cut my sim card from mini to micro and from micro to nano, and there isn't anything special to do. All i do is say if I was to cut mini to micro i wold get a micro sim from someone else to barrow then align the simcards and cut(there are many tutrials online). I always align the bottom right corners.
Also it is worth cutting your sim card because even if you mess up you gain epierence plus you can get a free one at your local t-mobile shop.

Best tip: good strong pair of scissors. Because you will be cutting plastic, not flimsy paper.
I made a paper template using the micro-SIM of a friend. Positioned it right and then it was just cutting along the lines.

Actually, you don't need either phone. You can activate a new SIMM card over the web:
http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-4677
I would bring the Nexus 4 and let them active the SIMM. They (official T-Mobile store) hit me for $30 cash for the Micro SIMM, but if I had known the price first, I would have called called 611 first to arrange for store pickup with a price quote from them. The Suggested Retail Price is only $9.99. http://prepaid-phones.t-mobile.com/prepaid-phones/prepaid-sim-cards

Yes
attn tmobile customer-need to add a line and don't posess a sim card?
need to add a line to your account for zero $$$ but do not have an unactivated micro-sim card? Here's 12 step program followed by one who did it:
Setting is the mall hallway, tmobile kiosk after finding out that the tmobile store charges either $10 or $20 depending on the customer's story for adding a line and getting a new sim card. Customer knows that for 12 years tmobile gives sim cards away to customers and is unwilling to go along with paying for something that is given away free.
1. walk up to the tmobile kiosk, ask for a sim card, say you hate the tmobile store, and by now, believe it.
2. when kioskers say they ran out of sim cards, remind them you hate the store and ask for one of those cool shirts they wear at the kiosk.
3. magically, they have a sim card for you, and they try to start activating it.
4. Stop them from activating it. That is for later.
5. recieve the sim card and walk away to your car and start a call to tmobile.
6. tell the sales dept at 611 you have a sim card and need to add a line.
7. follow the instructions given you by the tmobile sales department at 611.
8. Once activation for that sim is complete, and the call is about to end, say that your new phone only accepts the smaller sim card.
9. They will say just take the phone and the just activated sim card into the tmobile store, that they will use a die-cutter to size it for you for free.
10. take it to the store inside the mall.
11. explain to tmobile teenager that you have a new line, that the sim card in your hand is activated on it and you need it sized for your new phone.
12. The tmobile teenager takes the card, puts it in the cutter, cuts it and also installs it into your new phone.
Just a heads up to all who are purchasing the Nexus 6. It uses a Nano SIM card. The Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 use Micro SIM cards.

Anyone know if AT&T will give me a nano sim card without a device to use it in (to have on hand before my Nexus 6 gets here).
Will they have to activate it and thus deactivate the sim card in my Nexus 5 or can I call and have it activated once I'm ready? Come to think of it, is it possible to have both activated at the same time so I can switch between the two devices as necessary (while waiting for a case)?
Thanks!

Unless you get the phone from the carrier your going to have to go to a store and get a new sim, which they might charge you for, and have it activated. You won't be able to have both active with the same line but there are adapters that let you put a nano sim into a phone that uses micro sims.
You can turn the micro SIM into a nano by cutting the plastic around the gold contacts. If you don't trust yourself to do it manually, there are cheap cutting tools online specifically made for it.

I just cancelled my order on Amazon after reading that someone was able to walk into AT&T without their phone and request a nano sim. AT&T gave them an adapter as well. Free sounds much better than $6!
Why go to the effort of trimming when you can just walk in and get one or call and order a nano SIM and adapter from your carrier? Do some carriers charge for them?

I needed a nano sim when I got my last phone. I went to the AT&T store before my phone arrived and they wouldn't give me one. They told me it was a new policy and that I had to have my new phone with me. I was so pissed.
I went home and did an online chat with AT&T reps and gave them a sad story and they eventually agreed to ship one out with 2-day shipping.

Takes less time: no need to drive to a store and deal with salesmen.
For t-mobile, sometimes they will charge you and sometimes they won't for getting a new sized sim. You could get those slickdeals for t-mobile sims for 1 cent and activate one of those over the phone. They just need to verify your account and need the sim number.

A phone call is pretty quick, though.
I have a Premier business account with AT&T, maybe that's why it's so much smoother for me than what others are saying.
I always walk into my local AT&T store if I need a different size SIM card no questions asked no charge, done.
Ordered a couple from T-Mobile a few weeks ago. $2.12. For 2 of them. ?
My Att store doesn't care they will give you a Sim no questions asked for free, they guy have me 3 once because I said I wanted to have a spare one.

The nano SIM is smaller -- how is that going to work?
I've never had an unlocked phone before. I currently have an M8 (nano SIM) active on Verizon. I've read reports from people and their N6 experience. Some say it was simply a matter of moving the sim into the new phone. Others say they went through hell to get it to work. Does Verizon need to get involved? Is it really a case by case basis? Did people who had trouble do something wrong? Any insight appreciated.
I don't think we'll know until someone tries. As you had said, Verizon wouldn't issue SIMs or activate the N6 for the longest time. They have a terrible track record of allowing devices they don't sell on to their network. I'm on Verizon, and will probably go to Fi when it arrives. Cheaper that way anyhow.

I am in the same situation as you, never having had an unlocked phone and on Verizon. Have a Note 4 now and hope I can just walk in and get a SIM from them without problems, don't want to be put in the position of cutting down a micro-sim to a nano-sim size. Seen Youtube vids and yes it looks easy, but if someone can mess it up it is me. Hope they don't give us a hard time.
there was a small period of time where the XPE was having activation issues for new SIMs but existing SIMs worked fine. i anticipate this will remain the same. existing SIMs will work fine.
i do remember some issues with either the '13 X or some other models that were unable to do simultaneous voice/data but was eventually resolved.
I bought a nexus 6 on day 1. I was coming from a note 3 with a micro sim .I did not deal with Verizon at all. I cut my sim to make it a nano. Threw it in my Nexus 6 and the rest is history. Been using it ever since and when i get my 6p im just gonna transfer that sim into the 6p
I've cut down a sim card before. I had the HTC Rezound and when I ordered the Galaxy S4 I didn't want to go through the hassle of getting a Micro Sim from the store. The Rezound had a full size sim. There are sim templates online. Download and print one out. Cut the template EXACTLY and place on your Sim card. Trace in Pencil and then get a quality pair of scissors. Easy as that. They also make Sim card cutters online you can buy really cheap.
you do not even need a template...a good pair of durasheer type scissors and just trim all the plastic around the gold contacts off and you are good to go.

I called up and told them that a friend was giving me a Motorola Nexus 6, but I didn't have the phone yet so I couldn't activate it over the phone, and requested the nano-SIM.
It arrives tomorrow and I plan on putting it in an adapter and into my Rezound and activating it. That way on delivery day, I will just swap the SIM into the new phone. No guarantees, but I read this worked for the X Pure.
This is a really stupid question but I never bought a phone that I couldn't just pop my old sim card into and use right away. Are you saying I need to go buy a nano sim card from verizon and go through the activation process? I want to be able to use my phone straight out of the box so how to a buy a nano SIM so I have it ready to go on delivery day??
I've had unlimited data forever and I bet Verizon will claim new sim card means i'm no longer grandfathered but thats a headache for another day.
I'm ordering a nano sim right now, and putting it in my adapater and into my G3 to activate it then dropping it in my 6P when it gets here

I actually did the online chat with a representitive... but yes... I took a chance and it worked out jsut fine. I figured I would get the, "If you try and activate the 6P on our network, you will not be able to. So i cannot provide you with a new nano SIM." But.. she was cool about it and told me to use an adapter and activate it on my G3 before placing the nano sim in my 6P... which was the plan anyways lol

I just went on Verizon chat and asked them for a nano-SIM and they said they would ship it out right away. They had no issue with what device it was for or anything. She said there was no need to activate it in my old phone just put it in the new phone when it arrives and it will been fine.... We shall see.

I would pre activate it... Just in case lol.. Wonder why she told me she needed a device... Seems odd... Wonder if they know people are buying the Nexus devices and they are trying to gauge interest..

I can say with confidence that we shouldn't have a problem. Here's why:
I ordered a Nexus 6 from Motorola the day it was released. The Problem was,
I was using a HTC One M7 (Micro Sim)...The Nexus 6 is a Nano Sim and Verizon
didn't support the phone. I went into Verizon thinking all they had to do was
activate a Nano Sim and all is well....NOPE! They told me I needed a phone with
the Nano Sim to activate it. Luckily the guy that was helping me ended up being
AWESOME! He found an nonactivated Iphone 5 (Nano Sim) and added to my
account and then just swapped the Nano Sim into my Nexus 6 and LTE
popped up.
So i can 99% ensure that it will work with just a Sim Swap.
Lets cross our fingers for that 1% chance
All you chat people must have gotten lucky I chatted with VZW's customer service, and was told that while they could ship me out a new sim, I would have to CALL them to have it done. I sound like the odd man out here, so I must just gotten the nitwit of the bunch. Anyways, I ended up just ordering a "noosy 3rd gen sim card cutter" (from EBay, as I had an absolute nightmare TWICE with Amazon on this specific product for some reason), and feel like I'll be set to go.
It's literally a paper punch, but for sim cards. While I feel I could trim them with no issue, for ~$10 I felt like the added speed and surity of it all seemed like a no brainer to me

Ya.... I felt like I got pretty lucky.. i expected to be given a lot of crap especially because I just switched to their newer/cheaper data plan and currently have 0 phones that use their silly monthly payment plan to buy a phone.
I spoke with a local Verizon rep in the same building as my work; he told me that I would be unable to activate my Nexus 6P on Verizon; I asked him about activating another phone and swapping that sim to the N6P, to which he responded, "Yeah, as long as they're (the sim card) the same size."
I take take his word with a grain of salt, as he seemed to think that the Nexus 6P was just the PLUS version of the standard Nexus 6; just like Apples iPhone 6 and iPhone 6+

If you have an active Verizon sim card just put it in the 6P. If it's a micro then cut it, it still works. Another trick is if you happen to have a IPhone6 IMEI or any phone that is on the Verizon phone list that is Nano SIM you can use that in lieu to activate your 6P.
My friend just got a moto x pure and he just threw in his nano Sim and it worked right , plus tethering is unlocked since verizon doesn't have their mits on the phone first.
So my phone arrives today but I have a Note 4 which doesn't have a nano. Will I be able to just walk into an AT&T store to get a sim without the phone or will they want me to have the phone with me?

You can walk into an AT&T store and get one but you'll have to call customer support to get it activated. At least that's how I did it when I got my Z3.
Ah ok. That's fine. I just rather not have to carry around two phones so I can get a sim

I called them to send me an unactivated sim card, which they have done for me before, but they told me they needed an IMEI number in order to ship me out one. So i actually went ahead and printed out a template to cut down my current micro sim so i don't even have to go see them when the phone comes in. Template link below if you're interested.

On AT&T too and my M8 uses a nano-sim. I should be able to just put it in my 6P right or do I have to call AT&T first?

Yes, I took the AT&T nano sim out of my Moto X 2014 and am using it in my 6P. No problem

Awesome thanks!
Went to AT&T last night and picked one up. I was in and out in a couple of minutes. I haven't activated it yet as I am just waiting for my sim adapter to come so I can use my Nexus 5 until I get a case and screen protector.

I walked into ATT score and asked for Nano sim. They just handed me the credit card sized sim holder and told me to call when get phone. Didn't even ask for my phone or account number to verify I was current ATT customer.

If you walk into the store with your new phone and old SIM they will replace and activate the SIM right then and there. You might have to wait a bit to be escorted to one of those tables after being greeted at the door, but when you're done, you will walk out with a fully functional phone.
I called AT&T and they overnighted me the nano SIM card. They asked for the IMEI number but had no issues when I told them I had yet to receive the phone so could not provide the information.
Ah ok. Let me try that
Steve, I don't want to carry both phones and / or be without service. Want to just have the card already

You can also order a sim cutter off Amazon and cut the sim down when your phone arrives.
Ah I didn't want to do that. why spend money if I can get for free I got a Sim during lunch. I was told that I need a code that will activate the Sim which is sent over sms. I'll have to figure that one out
Ended up using Hangouts Dialer to call over Wifi and got the sim card activated. Worked like a charm.
I did also go to a store but there were at least 4 people ahead of me and I didn't want to wait. I made the right choice
