Hi Guys,
Got a new htc hd2 from tmobile in the uk, got last years september rom on it and found that it had an old rom on it, needs upgrading and wanting to put a updated rom, but wanted a rom that had all the bells and whistles,
currently it keeps freezin when sending txts an randomly crashes, had a couple of them, an thought it was phone til i realised all software related an needs seriously updating, but thought would go the whole hog then not do it for a while lol
Never done this before and a bit of a noob, have been reading through the stickys, but still abit unsure
Wasnt sure wether i would be able to put windows 7 or android on it, so if need be will stick to just winmo 6.5 but wanted a rom that gave me some decent apps with it, like those power/cooked roms, but didnt know what to go for, what would be best
never installed apps before, apart from through windows marketplace,
So hints tips an a great step by step noobie guide would be great,

I'm not being rude, but you really need to search forum. There are lots of threads about just what you are needing. WM7 is not available,android,they are working on, no idea when. Give search a try. lots of info,,,,
I did search the forums, i have been searching, hence how i obtained the info,
i know there are a lot of different cooked roms, but nothing that can help me differentiate which to choose from,
tbh ALL I want on the rom is probably like an e-reader and a torch, anything else is a bonus lol,
but i cant seem to locate something that says this is the one that wont cause me any issues, i am tempted just to grab the stock rom off htc, as that should resolve most of the issues with the phone

thats probably your best bet until you are more comfortable with flashing.
Grab the 1.72 and go with customising that.

I have a HTC HD2/Orange/, Apple laptop, Parallels with Windows XP. I can not install the 1.66 ROM and HSPL2. HSPL2 When trying to install, after an hour I'm still at step one and try to install the 1.66 ROM wizard shows me error 266, not connected USB cable, although the data synchronization between HD2 HTC and Windows XP via Activesync ... just ended positive.Prosím aid, what's wrong.

It will connect to usb while the phone is running, but as soon as it drops to bootloader the usb connection will not get passed back to xp.
you will not get hspl to work in a virtual environment or bootcamp. (or so i hear, i dont have a mac, i just read a lot )
You 'may' get flashing to work from bootcamp, but deff not hspl.
You will need to use a windows machine to instal hspl.

I well understand? Install HDSL2 and ROMs are only possible on a PC with Windws XP Or Vista?
Parallels distribute hard drive in the Mac dva.Jeden for a Mac to Windows XP. I resisted using a non "stock" ROM for a while, but I eventually got fed up with even the latest version that was released for O2 (1.72).
Yesterday I installed the Atermis v14 ROM, which I have to say stands head and shoulders above the standard release ROMs.
I chose it for two reasons, after looking on the "HTC_Leo/ROMs" page on the wiki attached to the site. First was that it was described as "Combines the latest WM 6.5.5 version with latest Manila 2.5.2012 (Leo 2.11) for HD2.This ROM Family is stable , fast and very close to stock ROM "Philosophy"." Second because it was first on the list
I found it really easy to install, using SSPL; you just put the downloaded ROM image and SSPL exe into a folder, connect your phone via USB with ActiveSync of Device Centre, and run the exe on your PC. There are pretty simple step by step instructions on both the SSPL and Atermis pages.
After installing Atermis I also installed S2U2 via a cab file, which gives me a different un/lock screen; again there's easy instructions, though you do have to play around with the S2U2 config app to get the behaviour as you might want (e.g. background image, time format, caller display). All straight forward though as you install the cab, then it's available via the start menu/app list. I like it because it's more responsive on wake up and allows direct access to messages, etc on unlock.
Unfortunately it seems all the ROM flashing apps are windows based (it's a windows phone after all...), so I doubt you'd have fun trying to flash a ROM with a mac. Probably simpler all round to borrow a friends PC for 10 mins!
If you are going to flash a new rom though, it's definitely worth backing up your contacts and messages, etc. Microsoft myPhone works for me, and comes pre-installed.

i bought a Samsung Focus from ebay.in (cell-force.in)
i got the phone. it had initial software (i think pre nodo) installed. i connected it to Zune to my PC, it took some time but it installed the latest release, i.e. 7720
now, when i further explored i found that it is not possible to install apps other than marketplace, also the great well known wifi bug
now I need your help
could someone please help me, what should I do to solve this
I want my device to be able to install any application I want
I want to connect to wifi (if solution for that ssid but available after rooting/unlocking/jailbreaking my focus)
Also, if I do jailbreaking, and when any update is available, would I be able to update normally using Zune?
I read about chevron, but I think they do not support 7.5 (7720) yet
So pleaser held me

you can if you have unlock (developer or Chevron) and access to the XAP files. as for the wifi bug, I'm not sure what you mean

this should work regardless of where you are in the world. if you can't connect to a wifi then your phone's hardware might have an issue.

no, it only supports OS ver. 7004/7008. You will need to downgrade to 7004 from a rom here, unlock with chevron and install several tools to keep the unlock.

Now, the long bits. I sent this to someone else, but posting it here so others can read. I'll build a newb how-to shortly.
First, you need to be on 7004/7008 OS version (check in settings/about).
If your version is greater than that (739x, 7720) then you need to downgrade to 700x
If your rom is greater than that then read my mini-guide here
Now, you need to unlock, so read this:

It has a video tutorial, so it should be easy.
Once unlocked, immediately install Samsung Tools from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=924497 and run them.
Make sure "prevent relock" is checked (actually everything should be checked) and reset.
Then, install WP7 Root Tools from here:

Now, you should be able to sideload.
When you've done all these, you could update to 739x (NoDo) but not all the way to Mango (7720) since you need to do some more steps, which you can also read here (includes all steps):

i succesfully created apphub account with my university email id
and now i have interop unlocked, and can install 3rd party apps
but still cant connect to wifi (any wifi), even if broadcasting ssid is active, but i cant still connect to wifi
it is hard for me to believe that there is any hardware fault
well lets see, if MS fixes more bugs/adds features in the Nov 7 announcement

Glad to hear you're sorted, at least for most bits.
I sincerely doubt on Nov 7 they will announce anything else than generation 2 phones and some software. But we'll see.
For your WiFi issue I suggest you try this: install Connectify on a laptop with Windows 7 and share the wireless connection (or a PC with a wireless dongle but with Windows 7). If that doesn't work, your phone has a hardware fault. I know for sure this works with any WP7 phone I've tried.
dudes i want to dual boot my phone with wp and android, currently running miui with magldr. so i have few doubts regarding wp7 for hd2.
i had an hd7 with mango 7720 so i an used with it..
1) do every thing in wp7 for hd2 is similar to hd7?
2) like no bluetooth file tranfer, no usb mass storage support?
3) to modify it do i have to push cab via cabsender( like i do in xbox mod rom for hd7)
4) no xap download support from browser?
5) sync via zune only and no wmdc support?
6) no option to import msgs, contacts, documents to computer?

All of those questions relate to OS specific features, not device features. They are therefore the same on all WP7 phones, including the HD2 when running WP7.
using Tom XAP Installer doesn't work to install xap files anymore. used this method to install touchexplorer and xbmoddeployer, but out of any reason the toms xap installer doesnt let me install anything. zune is turned on and the phone is connected to the pc, using phone 7 v. 8107. any suggestions?
restart phone and PC.... kill all messenger apps (MSN, Skype, TeamViewer)

doesn't work either. Iam using HD2_Updatable_XBmod_Yuki_v2.1 respectivley SP1-XBmod-Yuki. Getting the 0x89xxxx error besides I installed the vs_sdeprolightup-enu.zip.
Restarting my phone didnt change anything, too.

this ROM is also update with CAB's and fully unlocked (all patched XBL games work), plus have latest multitouch driver
but if you want change ROM, dont forget first to unlock SDcard....

followed your advise, double checked on date and time, connected the phone to pc while beeing on home screen, works!

Got same problem here. Syncd the date and time, running yuki xbmod rom with SP1, at home screen with screen powered on (not sleeping) XAPs wont install and PC complains unable to connect to device. Zune is running, tried TOm's XAP installer and XapDeployX. Even my caller id is screwed up. Tried removing unlock and callerid and installed these 2 fixes, still same issues. Help!
Saw in yuki xbmod rom's main page that SP1 has the new HTC drivers for HTC Hub Live Tile and do not support TouchXplorer and old apps. Is this the cause for my problems?

maybe to try Pdamatejam ROM (already suggested in post 4.)? cab files work, HTC Hub live tile work, full unlocked (Opera, all XBL games work), TouchXplorer work, latest multitouch driver work... only dont forget to unlock card before ROM change...
p.s. if you worry about apps, just make backups with WPDM...

you're running wp7...the pc will see as a hd7
you may have a live id, but do you have an activation code to authorize the wp7 phone installation?
don't know what you mean by all windows updates...what updates for pda'a rom? it'a all self contained flash.
have you tried rebooting the pc after zune installation?
you need to have zune running in order to use wpdm
and by resets, did you do hard resets either from setttings..reset or the hardware reset (vol up/down simultaneous during phone boot)
sometimes phone recognition by zune can be slow sometimes.
got the activation code. I am able now (after installing Visual Studio) of using WPDM to transfer files to the device. The Zune issue persists.
I did hardware resets, installed all from scratch (HSPL3, MAGLDR, RADIO) and finally ROM Pdaimatejam Tango 7.10.877.

i run into zune connection issues once in a while too...it usually comes down to doing a pc diskclean process and reboot the pc and try again.
