I'm seeing the ability to share pics and videos in the specs.
We can't currently do it with our Galaxy Nexus to and from the SGS III (and I haven't been able to test it with any other devices) so is there something new in Android Beam coming with the Nexus 4?
In other words, can we get some wifi direct lovin?!
I think not,
My guess is (I have experienced the same thing) that the S3 is not capable of reviecing so large files via NFC.
and my simple guess is that if the S3 would have CyanogenMOD or something else it would work..
Shame since I have so many more friends with SGSIIIs than GNexii ... I actually don't know anyone with a GNex here where I live but I have three good pals with SGSIIIs.
Where exactly have you seen the sharing in specs (was it just in soecs or mentioned as well?)

The Galaxy Nexus can send pictures via NFC. I tried it out with my Sprint Galaxy Nexus & GSM Galaxy Nexus. It'll take a while, but NFC picture transfers do work (I haven't tried videos though).

"Nexus 4 comes with Android Beam so you can easily share photos, videos, contacts, apps and more with a tap. Just touch two NFC-enabled Android devices back-to-back, then beam whatever's on the screen to your friend." From http://www.google.com/nexus/4/#camera.
I think it is the same old Android Beam though I was hoping it was something newer that would allow sharing with the GSIII. Good old proprietary Samsung. Google should have asked that NFC sharing was more standardized but true to Android platform tenets, Samsung went and made it better. Can't really blame them.
NFC only send very small data packets (~20kb). When it "shares over NFC", what they mean is the NFC initiates a Bluetooth connection, and sends the file via that.

They (SGSIIIs) do everything they say in the commercials ... This is about the Nexus line and how it needs to get on the WiFi direct bandwagon or make it optional so that we Nexus folks can send large files with all NFC enabled devices--particularly the SGS III, which happens to be the most popular.
If the Nexus 4 somehow does this, I'd definitely go pick one up. That's why I want to know what's up with them.

We'll I have a Nexus 4, and attempted to send a small photo I grabbed from the internet to my brother-in-law's Galaxy Note 2, and both phones respond to the NFC detection. My phone says "Touch to Beam", and I tap the screen, and the Galaxy Note 2 says "Incoming beam.." But after 10 to 15 secs, says "Incoming beam failed".
I tried it with my wife's phone (SG3), and the same problem happened. This is very disheartening.. Don't get me wrong, the Nexus 4 rocks, love how smooth, and clean the O/S. Just the fact that I can't take advantage of Android Beaming to another Android device sucks at the moment. Knowing the SG3 is almost everywhere now.
Hey thanks for checking that out!
So it looks like either S-Beam won't play nice with non-Galaxy S devices and/or the Nexus 4 doesn't use WiFi direct to actually send the file like S-Beam does.

You know I've been playing around with NFC and Android Beam the past few days too and I'll share some of my results.
I've been able to "beam" links, youtube videos, and a picture. The devices I have available to try were my Nexus 4, a Galaxy Nexus (running 4.2 stock), and a Nexus S (running CM10 stable). All worked like it was supposed to. I did try to send a song to my brother's Nexus S, but it did the "Incoming beam..." thing that JayCapo pointed out. It eventually opened Google Music, but it never transferred.
Dunno, yet. Will try more and different scenarios.
I've only tried using Android Beam to receive a photo, which works fine, and that's with another Nexus4 device.
As for wifi direct, the option is there, but I've not tried it yet.
In the wifi settings page, press the menu (three dots?) in the bottom right and select wifi direct.

Eeeek WiFi direct just kind of sits there not doing anything. I can connect to devices but the option to share doesn't seem to show up in the gallery or anywhere else. That's for another thread.

Hi guys,
After checking all the reviews, discussions and spent quite some hours in the store playing it, I can definitely feel the new era of tablet is coming. The 7" display is perfect for reading and the weight is not a burden for single hand holding. But the thing is I already have a i9000 (Galaxy S vibrant from Bell Canada using on Fido) with 6GB of mobile data. I am currently debating if I should jump in the TAB bandwagon now... Can someone share some thoughts on the following:
1. What's the future of Galaxy tab? I've been reading quite a lot of online articles and lots critics are saying the current android versions are yet to be ready to be served as "tablet" OS. What do you guys think?! I am pretty sure tab will get 2.3 in early next year but will it be getting 3.0 as well (official, not by XDA-gods)?
2. Like I mentioned, I already have a i9000 with me all the time, I really do not think it will be good idea to swap the sim card between teo devices all the times. I believe many of you here have a nice smartphone (android/iphone/BB...) with data plan. Tell me, how do you manage two "smart" devices with one sim card so you do not pay data twice!?
3. To be honest, I do not see myself talking with a 7" tab upside down. I know there're bluetooth solutions (hand free), but any other thoughts?! I saw someone's review on the SE liveview, but I personally think this device is yet to be matured but the device got very good potential in the future if they keep developing it. Did anyone try to pair bluetooth hand free+liveview+tab all three at the same time? So when liveview vibrates I can quickly answer the call with bluetooth handfree...
4. Are you happy with your wifi only tab?! I will be traveling to US soon, where can I get a good price on wifi only tab other than ebay?! If I cannot manage two devices with one sim card, I think a wifi tab is not a bad choice... worst comes worst, I will use mobile AP on my i9000 to share data with tab.
Thanks for your sharing, any comments will be greatly appreciated.
cheers!
To answer question 2 I set up my mobile as a wifi hotspot and connect with my tab.
In the new year there will be a load of new tabs on the market, perhaps its wise to hold off until then.
The galaxy tab will be in the sales by then anyway

Does it really matter if it gets 2.3 or 3.0? You should always buy a device for what it does NOW, not what it could do. And the Tab does a whole helluva lot right now, today, with 2.2. Anything else would be gravy.
That said, it'll get 2.3 at the very least.
2. Like I mentioned, I already have a i9000 with me all the time, I really do not think it will be good idea to swap the sim card between teo devices all the times. You know, I have a Galaxy S as well, been using one since July, best smartphone I've ever owned, love it.
But you what else? Since I picked up the Tab 3.5 weeks ago, I barely use the SGS for anything besides voice calling, and glancing at the weather.
Since I might use something like 30 voice minutes a YEAR, I'm seriously contemplating saying goodbye to the SGS, sticking that voice-data (and free US data roaming) SIM in my Tab and dropping the tablet data-only/Canada-only plan .
3. To be honest, I do not see myself talking with a 7" tab upside down. I know there're bluetooth solutions (hand free), but any other thoughts?! You can get vibrating bluetooth earpieces.
4. Are you happy with your wifi only tab?! I will be traveling to US soon, where can I get a good price on wifi only tab other than ebay?! There is no such thing as a WiFi-only Tab right now, probably won't be for at least another month, and if/when it is released you'll have to hack it for Market support, guaranteed.
Also, don't count on using that mobile AP for longer than about an hour before the i9000 is drained.
Prices will come down a bit on the 3G versions of the Tab, but not a lot. The price drops in the UK were simply adjustments to bring them more in-line with US pricing, not as a panic or market correction.
I'd always recommend paying the price premium for the 3G version over the mythical WiFi-only version because doing so means you don't have to wait, you can enjoy your Tab immediately, and you have more options. Use it without a SIM and it becomes a WiFi-only device at that point, with the option to use 3G if the need arises.
Keep in mind that nobody besides Samsung has any idea what price point the WiFi-only version will come in at, if it is actually released. How can it be much cheaper than the 3G version? A 3G radio and antenna array costs only a few dollars...not hundreds. Even Apple, just about the worst gougers ever in the electronics world, only charge a $75-100 premium for the 3G version.

I am having major problems trying to do this, and keeping my Tab will depend on me figuring out why my mobile wifi hotspot phone works with regular computers but not my Tab
Been ready to throw the Tab off a cliff because it makes no sense when it has WEP connectivity but can't see my phone's WEP hotspot.

The Galaxy Tab does not detect my HD2 router, I tested several softwares of the Android Market, but none connected, someone were finding the access point, but none was connecting. That is the worst!
We need a hack or something to do this work.
But my HD2 connects with the Galaxy Tab wifi router!

This is true, however some phones can create real infrastructure wifi networks like the Nexus One.
I was planning on waiting till the wifi version of the tab came out to get it and just tethering it to my phone but I ended up picking up the sprint version and I have to say that I'm glad I did. I'm paying the 30 a month for data but for me it's worthwhile. I know that better tablets will come out but I'm OK with getting a new tablet in another 1-2 years.
I have a galaxy s and the first days I used the tethering option to conect via wifi and worked perfectly.
Now what I do is different. I purchased a double line sim, wich lets you use your sim card in two different devices at the same time including the data plan.
My carrier is Orange in Spain but I suppose all carriers have this option because more and more cars are being sold with stereos that let you insert you sim.
About the future of the tab, its sure its going to be upgraded to gingerbread and to be honest I don't need anything with more power, for the use I give it its perfect and will be for some time.

Well I've had mine for 2 months now and I can unequivocally say go for it.
The device in my opinion works best with a data-only pay as you go plan.
The tab is pretty rubbish as a phone (I find using wired or bt headsets just makes me look like a loonier and generally uncomfortable considering its size), but as an independent 3g/ edge device it saves my phone battery and gives me the option of having a connection even deep in the Russian countryside.
Agps is also important if you drive a lot using navigation, and it wont be available with the wiring only version.
Re usability - with a few simple tweaks I now have a device that runs silky smooth. No less so than my sisters ipad. My browser doesn't lag. My battery lasts 2 days with light use. My email client downloads and opens all attachments and my video player plays almost every file I throw at it. My device is dlna enabled and my initial distrust of the size has turned to a point of pride.
As I've said before, with android, there really is no spoon. It is the finest mobile tablet experience for the road. For home use you should really consider a 10+ inch, windows 7 slate.
Considering the nature of android apps, the only benefits you will see from holding off and buying a tegra 2 powered tablet that's due out in the next few months are higher benchmark scores and lower prices.
In terms of overall build quality, samsungs commitment to updates (there are already TENS OF FIRMWARE versions available) and general awesomeness, I would say tab.

Forgive my ignorance but what is a "mobile ap" and can it be done on my WM (Tilt 2/Rhodium) phone so I can get a data connection from the phone to the Tab?
Yeah I got the tab within a week of its release in my country and yes it cost a bomb but its worth every penny paid for it! I simply love the size and portability of the tab and the fact that I can have an almost desktop level experience on it!
I love the fact that I can browse the web in full, watch videos embedded in sites, YouTube, javascripts, downloads work great, I can stream music or watch movies or read books or manga or comics, take it out for navigation while driving...the full web experience on the go! The yiuchscreen works like a smooth dream, overall device build quality is awesome...i can check all emails and other stuff...What can be better....
Sure Gingerbread may or may not improve the experience but as it stands now Froyo works like a dream on the tab...the idiot Google spokesperson who commented that Froyp was not optimized for tablets need to be kicked for shooting of his mouth!
For me the Tab is the best device till date - the power of a PC in a compact form factor...I rarely use my PC or netbook or laptops or other mobile devices nowadays...when I need to do something on the net, I reach for the tab!

I think Google very much queered the pitch for devices like the Tab when they said that Android was not optimized for tablets.
An example can be found here, where it says:
According to Barra, Android market apps "just wouldn't run" on a tablet-oriented platform, as Froyo was simply "not designed for that form factor."

Really? I must say that I've not found an app yet that doesn't run on the Tab, though I'm sure they do exist. However, this is no different to any Android phone - there are apps that will run on some phones but not on others, even though they have the same Android version.
This comment is the real deal though:
"We want to make sure that we're going to create a application distribution mechanism for the Android market, to ensure our users have [the] right experience," he added.

There's no formal "section" in the Android Market for Tablet apps, making it hard to find tablet specific versions - this is true!
However, everyone has picked up on the "not optimized" comment and it gets rolled out all the time by people who basically have never used the Tab in anger.
To be honest though, I think that you can consider the Galaxy Tab running Froyo akin to the iPad running iOS 3.2 - the iPad became a much improved device when iOS 4.2, but was still perfectly fine on iOS 3.2. We should see the same with Gingerbread/Honeycomb.
Regards,
Dave
Thanks guys for the support, yes, I am unboxing my tab right now and darn, I am pretty happy for it (now). But I do use my SGS quite a lot (20 min+ talk) so I need a better management between the phone and tab. I think I am a bit greedy and wish I have data eveywhere and on all my devices.
I personaly think the mobile OS evolves faster than what I can imagine and seriously after the house, car, and then soon kids, a device that will only last 6 to 8 months with further upgrade to me is waste of money. For $650CND+tax, I hope it could last me minimum a yea...
Action plan:
1. Get it unlocked and rooted.
2. Flash it to Euro+Bell modem (mine is Rogers)
3. Find a nice case (no profolio) with kickstand (any recommendations?)
I also think Mobile AP will drain way too much joice from the battery even though I have two spare batteries but it will be not so conveinent in the long run...

Android 4.1 improved Android beam, Added the ability to share photos and videos (how) by holding devices back to back, this will enable Bluetooth on both devices and send photo/video
S beam is the same but instead of Bluetooth ,it use WiFi (not always available) also, s beam fails many times (for me at least), and s beam is available only on Samsung new devices like Galaxy SIII and Galaxy note II, So you can't share to any NFC devices, just to Samsung Devices
(Summary: After Jelly Bean update, S beam became almost useless)

2)Do you think Samsung should improve S beam ? (For example: sharing via Bluetooth if WiFi isn't available)

S Beam utilizes WiFi direct but gives the ease of just turning it on (or have it on all the time), and tap with another Samsung device S beam without having to search and connect with it. If you wish to share with another android device without S beam, just have to turn WiFi direct on both devices, find each other (like Bluetooth). and share your files. Advantage of WiFi direct over Bluetooth is that you can share larger files much faster.
Ya, S3 users know that S beam is not neccessary.
But, that's not the problem
S3 users have got the feature , to try it or not is in your hand.
Also, S3 users are future ready that means maybe after some years S Beam became major sharing option then....
I have used lots of time S beam with my friends having S beam else I use WIFI DIRECT thats also great option.

Same as someone already said, sbeam doesnt rely on wifi but wifi direct! wifi direct speeds compared to bluetooth ones are simply amazing, i use it alot for sending files with my cousin, and it hasnt failed single time yet! I dont think that it is useless^^.opposite its preety useful if you know somebody with S3, which isnt kinda rare theese days is it?
For me sbeam is awesome and super fast. It uses nfc to pair and wifi direct to send files!! Much faster than having to connect and pair through wifi direct. Just tap and send!

Both rely on nfc to pair but android beam shares via bluetooth and sbeam via wifi direct. Theres a big difference! Imagine sending a 600mb video over android beam wich uses bluetooth to send! I rather use sbeam when ever i can. Phones with ics cannot share files, pics or movies via nfc and samsung improved on that by adding sbeam. Now that jellybean is out for sgs3, sbeam is still by far the better choice bettween sgs3s cause of speed. For other phones regular android beam. Just look at it this way. Would you prefer hspa+ or LTE speeds? Would you prefer to only have android beam, or have android beam, and ultra fast sbeam when available? Just Enjoy the extras the Sgs3 gives you man! Its a hell of a phone!

Nice to have the feature, but I have never used it.
I am seriously facepalming every time i read such posts, before you start a topic like this, understand what your phone has and how it does it.
SBeam uses NFC to start the connection, WIFI Direct to send, the result is not having to setup anything and blazing fast speeds.
Tada, and yes i use it alot, my friends almost all have S3's/Note 2's.

Bubble up player is great to stream from the tablet..
I use it because you can pick the device where the files are at. Say on a network computer share folder. Stream them thru the tablet to a Tv on the same network..
You can also select where the video is rendered .. Local ON THE SHARE Device or on the ..
MY Samsung shows up as a DLNA /Media device on all my networked devices . Its great feature..
YOU just have to play with the settings to find what works best with your tv and network shares.. There is also a SAMSUNG ALL SHARE App and program for windows pcs. that does NOT Require a samsung device..
As far as miracast who knows if or when....
The thing is, I don't want just DLNA playing to another device/computer/television. I want mirroring. I want exactly what Miracast is supposed to give me. And even now if you Google how to use Miracast you will find *nothing* about actually *how* to use it. You see a whole bunch of hype about people saying how it's going to beat AirPlay and how it's the best thing since sliced bread -- yet nobody has actually used it.
It's appalling how biased people can be without any evidence of the feature working (short of a video given to us by the friggin manufacturer). I feel like I purchased an iDevice. This feature is a ghost.
Exactly, feels like there are more Andro Sheep than iSheep. For now, 4.2 only brought amazing Bluetooth-NFC connectivity. As well as some UI stuff which there are plenty of custom on Android.

Well I, for one, wouldn't even be connecting it to a TV. My home theater PC, however, should easily be able to have some sort of software running on it that would be able to receive the signal. The problem is that the functionality is only half-baked at this time no matter where you look.
And without any device currently on the market, how can people swear by it?
Before we all start a witch hunt, remember miracast is still in development. You can't have something that hasn't had an official release yet.
Android Central has had a few articles on it, so far there are no official streaming devices for it (although some companies have claimed their upcoming streaming devices will support it).

Our best hope is that Google enables Miracast in a future update, and that compliant Miracast devices are released. I'm not holding my breath, since I would have thought that they would have included it with the 4.2 update if they planned on including it at all. I could be wrong of course. It's still early days with Miracast. Maybe it can be enabled via custom ROMs.
It would have been awesome to be able to stream games to my TV. Along with a bluetooth connected PS3 controller it really could have been an awesome experience.

EXACTLY.
But I thought this *was* enabled by 4.2...? What have we been reading about Miracast in 4.2 then?

Lazy, bad reporting.
They don't mention the 7 in the article, just the 10 and 4. I don't mind living without mirroring (my phone has MHL, if I ever bother to buy the adapter), but the wireless mirroring was a selling point on this tablet for me, even if I have to go custom to enable it.
As a filmmaking student, the capability to control and mirror screens on, say, a movie set, or a classroom, without plugging everything up just so, sounds pretty sweet. And I'm personally just tired of collecting single-use cables and adapters.
Patience, however, is a virtue, and I am willing to wait for Google to get off their asses once the mob realizes the shortchanges they're giving us. -Ara

What I don't understand is why did they hype it so much? From what I understood, no ones TV even supports this yet. Am I supposed to buy a new TV for this feature?
And I also don't understand, how is N7 not mentioned in those articles? Official Miracast video says that this is going to be enabled for NVIDIA Tegra 3 devices. Only N7 has Tegra 3, N4 and N10 both have different stuff inside.
This thing lacks so much information.

Yeah, prob a mistake to hype it so much. I mean, wait until the ecosystem is ready. Airplay has been out for so long it seems. Get off your asses, Google!
any devolopment?
Any devolopment on this? I just searched for an hour and only came up with articles on it, no downloads or hardware..
Ok so I have had my Note 2 since launch and love it. The Samsung account syncs the S-notes and can restore them. The Note 10.1 doesnt even have the option in the sync setting for the Samsung account. Does anyone know if the JB update will add this so your S-notes are synced across your Note devices?

Well went down the road of doing the gem ICS them changing the CSC file and it did the OTA update to JB. S-notes syncs fine I see my notes on both my Note 2 and the Note 10 but what really sucks is the Music Hub App is nothing like the one on my N2. None of the cloud music I have uploaded none of the Radio stations its just a Buy Me type apps this is very disappointing. If Samsung cant see the value in makeing it a seamless expirance across their Note Line they are lost in the weeds. Im not an Apple fan but they have got that stuff right. I think Im taking it back and going for the Nexus 10 if this is what I have to work with. Its a shame

Let's pretend you asked for help rather than ranting. Why yes, you can set up the "new" Music Hub on the Note 10.1. Download Astro (or tool of your choice) and back-up the app off of your N2. Then share it to Dropbox. Download the APK from Dropbox and it'll install on your Note 10.1 asking if you want to replace the installed version. Voila. Music Hub II on your Note 10.1. I can upload it to DB for you if you have any issues. Note: It only works on multiple (Samsung) devices if you've provided a credit card for the premium service.

Boy if that's a rant I'm not sure what to say....Thanks for the direction though. Been an Android guy since the Hero on sprint. Over time I have found I dont do all the ROM flashing anymore and just want the full experience without messing around. Thats a pretty easy fix though. Why wouldnt MH 3.0 be part of the JB update is my big question.

OK, not a "rant." Maybe a bit rant-ish. It was the “I’m going to get a N10” that threw me. Music Hub II isn't fully released yet. It was available originally for the U.S. only and only on the SGS3. They added the N2 and the UK, Germany, France, and Italy only recently. The original UI was pretty cheesy too. They obviously see it as a way of generating revenue because it’s a pretty ambitious effort so I'd expect it to become both more available and better promoted soon.

I have replaced Spotify, Pandora and Google Music with it. Simple to use easy to search, syncs with my Families iTune Lib. reasonable price. out of 5600 songs only 6 didnt make the "Locker". The "EQ" is Bass, Mid, Highs..perfect for me. Note2 with my Bose Soundlink is a wonderful road warrior combo in hotel rooms. Cant wait to see it "Official" on the Note 10.1 will make a great portable multimedia Platform. My only other WTF was why they didnt include NFC in the note 10 for beaming that would have been great for quick transfers between devices. DropBox fills that to some extent but it would have been icing on the cake.
Oh and you can set storage to your ExtSD .... THANK YOU SAMMY
OK so I have been thinking about this for a while. I know the Samsung galaxy s3 and note 2 allow Bluetooth syncing. Can we try a build.prop rename for device name to spoof a galaxy s3 and see if the 4.0 can get any action? Anyone able to help me with this.
I have been in contact with Fitbit and they say the Bluetooth stack for hardware is different on each hardware. But I'm still wanting to get this working. Anyone able to assist? Fitbit one and nexus 4

I just bought a Fitbit One. I do not even see the One on my LG Nexus 4 V4.2.2 using the standard bluetooth control panel. Maybe there's a radio diag util that'll let me see it. Android Fitbit V1.6.1 software does not offer the option to sync on my LG Nexus 4. The LG Nexus 4 DOES have Bluetooth v4.0 hardware doesn't it?
I have an SMK Link V4 LE USB Bluetooth dongle on my netbook that, after downloading the god awful 400 megabyte driver from their website, does show the Fitbit One bluetooth but the Netbook refuses to attach to the Fitbit One. The Win 7 bluetooth control panel times out. It says I never entered the number (presumably on the FitBit One). I never saw any prompt to enter the four digit code on the PC or the Fitbit One.
Fitbit.com/store shows a $14.95 wireless dongle so I can sync at work & home but I'm hesitant to buy it given support for more Android phones are "coming soon". I wish they'd communicate their plans, schedules & devices better.

I just stumbled upon this:

Finally! Wireless Sync (beta) on Android!
2013 February 12
by lking
We’re excited to announce that wireless syncing with Android has arrived! Our free Fitbit App for Android now syncs your Fitbit One and Zip stats directly to the Samsung Galaxy SIII and Note II. With our app, you can sync your stats wirelessly (beta) and see how you are tracking against your daily goals, with friends, and against historic averages. You can download the app from Google Play today!
Android dashboard
Android dashboard
We know how important it is for our customers to get real-time access to their stats. Those who’ve been able to take advantage of wireless background syncing already have been telling us how they’ve worked to get their extra steps in after receiving notifications that they’re close to their goal, or how they find motivation from the instant feedback right on their Dashboard. We are very excited to bring this feature to our Android users!
We began working on the wireless sync for Android and iOS at around the same time. It took us much longer to get this working on Android phones than it did with iOS, and we appreciate our Android users’ patience in the meantime. We know many of you may be curious about the development of this feature, and we’d like to share some insight into some of the challenges we’ve encountered and what they’ve taught us in the process.
Currently, the Android OS does not provide apps with access to the Bluetooth 4.0 chips in newer phones. To work around this, some phones instead have custom software that provides access to Bluetooth 4.0. Since this software is different for each phone, our team has worked on developing a solution for each phone independently.
Fitbit is among the first to try and use the Bluetooth 4.0 in Android phones, and part of being the first means we got to help find and document any problems with the software. We also spent quite a bit of time piecing together how the software works, since it previously hadn’t been well-documented. For many of the problems we encountered, we were able to create our own work-arounds. For others, we coordinated with phone manufacturers and carriers to get more permanent fixes in place.
For phones we have yet to introduce syncing capabilities with, we’re working with phone manufacturers to see which phones will allow our app to work with their Bluetooth 4.0 capabilities. This process involves us individually checking each model of phone. There may be better support for third-party apps to access Bluetooth in the future, and once this is available we will be able to easily support all phones with this update.
We’ve been working hard to improve the wireless sync experience, but the feature is still in beta. Syncing your stats will typically take about 30 seconds. In some cases, especially where there are issues with network connection, it may take longer. We’re working hard to provide the best user experience possible, so improved syncing speed is just one thing you can look forward to seeing in future updates of our Android app.
Fitbit is dedicated to making connected devices that fit seamlessly into your everyday life, and we fully believe that incorporating Android phones in all of our future efforts is a huge part of that. We truly appreciate our Android users’ patience as we continue to work on supporting additional mobile devices. We’re closely collaborating with phone carriers and handset manufacturers to try to support more phones. There’s a number of phones we’re actively working on, but we don’t yet have an ETA on when we might be able to release updates to include them. For now, you can see a list of all of the supported devices here. If your device is not on that list, we encourage you to contact your phone carrier to ask that they work to build out further Bluetooth support. Your feedback could help us speed this process along!
Happy syncing and logging — wherever you go!
–The Fitbit team
Seems the problem is Google have not fully implemented Bluetooth 4.0 support, but Samsung for all their faults, have. Maybe we will get lucky with the next release of Android, Google IO is 2 weeks away.
Was really thinking about a Fitbit Flex but good thing I looked up wireless syncing.

All Fitbit devices have wireless sync via the included bluetooth dongle. Real time active-sync via a Bluetooth 4.0 connection to your smartphone is what you are referring to..

Yup. As this is a Nexus 4 forum, I figured the distinction was obvious. Thanks for making it clear. Fingers cross for some BT4 announcement at IO.
So I have been reading reviews for the flex and one of them mentioned NFC syncing to mobile devices although the fitbit website doesn't seem to spec this feature..... Was this just a deranged reviewer??
edit: Another review explains the following
"Even if your phone isn't one of the currently compatible models (the Galaxy S III, S4 and Note II), the inclusion of NFC lets you quickly launch the app with a tap, though there will be no ability to sync."

No, that's true. It just opens up the app but doesn't sync. I hate going back to TW. Mann.
ok im going to put this out there, but why do you need to sync your fitbit with your phone at all, i use my fitbit all day long and as long as i walk within 20 feet of my pc at home with the fitbit usb adapter and software on it my fitbit syncs so does my wifes, when she gets home from work walks in front door boom sync'd i have never had to open the app to sync my fitbit manually and never seen the need to sync to app being their are indicators on all fitbits saying where you stand on activity.
You only need mobile sync if you're away from your home pc for more than 5 days.

its quirky, sometimes i have to make my phone have sex with my fitbit to get it launch the app thats all the nfc feature does. its 90% of the time faster to just open the app with my finger then nfc, but its not nearly as cool as fitbit/phone sex
I have a Fitbit Flex and have looked into this. Apparently mobile syncing requires BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) which our phones don't have. However, they are capable of it and BLE is one of the rumored additions for Android 4.3.
Personally I hate having to take my dongle back and forth between home and work so I'm looking forward to being able to sync on my phone.
bringing this thread back up. I know that we have BLE now in 4.3 but fitbit has not updated the app yet. Anyway we can spoof the app in Build.prop maybe to make it work?
Pretty sure that the app needs to be coded for the nexus 4 BLE driver first...
