I noticed lately that my N7 has been taking forever to charge. And this is with the supplied stock 2A charger and cable.
I'm flashed AOKP Milestone 1 with its stock kernel, could the ROM or kernel be the problem? I also turned the N7 off to charge and after an hour, only ~15% was charged.
I'm not sure if this problem as always existed as I used it sparingly in the past but within the alst few days I found myself using it a lot and wanting to charge it fast.
Cable suck.... Change it....

Are you using a generic micro usb? If so that's the problem. use the Asus cable that came with it, or any other good quality cable.
Did you use a USB extension cable? If I use one, my nexus charges very slow.
I think the Nexus measures the resistor-value in the cable and if it doesn't have some specific (low) value, it just loads at 500 mAh. Or it does somehow read out the ID-Pin of the cable....

Is anyone having issues with the device charging while it's being used?
When I turn the screen off it charges 10 percent in 20 minutes, but while I'm using the device with the charger plugged in it never seems to charge and the battery slowly decreases.
Can anyone replicate this issue?
if you are not using the AC charger, the charge you are getting is not keeping up with the device. If you are using the AC charger, make sure you are using the cable it came with.

Heh, looks like its finally charging now. I was using an extension cable so it was probably adding resistance. Never had a device so picky before. The cable that came with it is too short to do any good. Hopefully there'll be a kernel out soon that allows the device to use the full 2 amps like on siyah kernel on my s3.
Just wondering, how long does it take you guys to fully charge (From anything below 20% to 100%) your nexus 7? Because I've seen a few posts about battery related problems, and personally I think mine chargers slower than it should.
Also, when I use a wire to extend the charger, it's as if it wont charge, for it to fully charge i'd have to leave it on for hours without use, Since they're aren't any plugs where I'd usually sit to use it, I need to move somewhere else cause the wire is quite small.
For example, I've had it on charge since 2PM today, when I plugged it in it was at 14% battery, now (4:20 PM) it's at 63%. This has been without use, just sitting there charging. Plugged in via the charger and wire that come with it, to an extension with 3 other plugs in it.
I received my N7 with about 40% charge and it seemed like it took a really long time on that first full charge. It has been better since. I have heard if you are not using the original cable for the N7, it will dramatically increase the time it takes to charge and it won't show the charging icon. The supplied cable is USB 3 and your other cables are most likely USB 2. You might want to buy a 6 foot or 2 meter USB 3 cable for convenience. Also, use the original 2 amp charger it came with.

Well, that explains why the extender doesn't work, but I haven't been using that to charge it since I noticed it slowed it down allot. I've only been using the stuff it comes with ever since I noticed that. Still VERY slow though, it's only just reached 96% since starting charging it at 2am. so it's taken 5 hours to get from 14% to 96%, pretty sure this isn't right.
I've collected some data on N7 charging and cables issues here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29983624
My completely drained N7 (<1%) takes approximately 3 hours and 49 minutes to completely charge it (N7 powered off during charging).

OEM charger and OEM cable.
Past 2 days my Nexus 4 is not charging via Car Charger, i have original Samsung Charger, i also have USB port. i tried the USB cable i receievd with Nexus 4 from LG. No Luck, i can only charge my Nexus 4 at home.
I checked my usb lead and Samsung Car Charger to charge my Backup phone Galaxy mini, it works fine. Gaalaxy mini charges but not my Nexus 4.
I was thinking it might be an issue from CM Kernel. i recently installed CM10.1 nightly 13/3/2013 it was working fine before going custom rom. I have used every single custom roms in the past, i had no problem with charging anywhere before.
so i returned back to stock today and it is the same not charging.
I can only charge at home, but i use it alot and i need to keep it on charge in the car too.
Help pls thank you
Lower amp car chargers can't charge the Nexus4 faster than it discharges. I have a 2 Amp charger that works.
Having the screen on full brigthness while using GPS drains the phone really fast!
Does your Nexus4 not charge at all or does it charge slower than it drains?
It might be the kernel, I am using a Samsung galaxy S3 usb cable with a usb port car charger and I do not have any problems charging my N4. I am on Baked ROM and Franco kernel.
it has nothing to do with my car chager cuz it was working fine before.

i did not have any problems before using the CM
as soon as i flashed CM10.1, this problem started. i changed back to stock and still same problem
I'm also having problems with charging my Nexus 4 in the car. I have charged my N4 everyday going to work for the last 3 months. But last week it stopped working I'm also running CM 10.1 nightlies since day one if that has any importance.
The car charger works with my old Nexus One
I have bought another car charger that works(verified with N1), but doesn't charge my N4. Both chargers support 1 Ampere.
I can charge my N4 with AC-adapters
I can also charge the N4 connected to my computer using USB.
Any ideas?
bumping this. any solutions? same boat here
I have same isdue, but not all the time. I noticed my N4 stops charging with my car charger, the original charger and the wireless charger when it comes too hot. (after playing a game for example)
The only way I found to make it charges again is waiting for it to get cooler and then replug the charger. I think it might be an hardware security that stops the charge when the battery is too hot because when my N4 has a normal temperature it charges normaly evdn on my 1A car charger
BIG bump here!! My N4 stopped charging in my car randomly around when 4.3 came out....!! Any ideas what's up?!? Annoooying......!
Just in case I drive a 2010 Prius.... Worked fine since the N4 was first released.

Left phone charging overnight and woke up this morning at 53%.
Using Stock USB cable and ac adapter charging through the wall.
The charger is usually fine and I wake up at 100%. Once or twice I'll wake up with around 73% which is fine.. but at 53%, aint nobody got time for that.
Anyone else have same experience? Any fixes?. Running PA and Franco latest.
Thanks

Just recently started having this same problem. When I notice it happening, I can see the charging indicator flipping on and off rapidly.
I use an HTC charger from my old desire and haven't had any issues.
Not even took the nexus 4 charger out of the box.
Try a different charger.

I had this problem with the stock charger and cable. Ordered a new (and official) LG USB cable and still had the same problem. Oddly enough, if I use the USB cable from my old Atrix charger with the LG stock charger, the issue disappeared and I have not had it happen since.
No idea if this is a problem with the charger itself, or just cheap USB cables
I had this problem 2 months ago. It's definitely the charger. I replaced it with a cheap travel charger and have no problems.

Stock charger is useless, use a different one... preferably without detachable USB cable. Seems like you're getting what I used to before I changed chargers, "USB charging" when you are plugged into a wall outlet.
for me, the charger was fine. The cable is what is failing. Maybe it wasn't made to usb spec. Sometimes when plugging in, I notice it starts USB charging and not A/C charging. I installed a battery widget that tells me what charging mode it is in so I kept a watchful eye on that. After using a different cable (with same charger), I've never had this issue again.

Are you on stock rom? When I first got my nexus it was on 4.2.1 I noticed that if I left the phone on the charger or was using it while it was charging the % number would go down.
Flashing a custom rom and kernel fixed these issues.
Changed the usb-AC adapter to my iphone one while using the same usb wire and its working fine now.
Mine started doing this yesterday but wasn't using the stock charger. I rebooted the phone and used the lg charger and cable and phone has been fine sine.

I had this issue before where the stock battery graph would sometimes show USB charging even though I'm using the wall charger. It would sometimes flicker between charging and not-charging as well.
I replaced the LG USB cable to a generic micro USB cable from ebay and the issue hasn't repeated ... so far.
Wondering if anyone notice how slow it charges when it is connected to thru PC using USB (using original USB cable)?
I know it was not charging very fast when it was on 4.2.2, but 4.3 it is really slooooooooow...My N7 is pure stock 4.3 and so does its kernel.

placebo?
were you using usb fastcharge on 4.2.2?
Unfortunately I am having similar problem with my nexus 7 after OTA 4.3; it charges so slow even though I plug charger in and try to use it while its chaging, device turns itself off saying please charge battery. How can it turn off when its already on the charger?

Has anybody heard of a kernel that fixes this? I love everything about 4.3 except that it charges sooooooo sloooooowwww!
I plugged mine in 5hrs ago @ 30% and it is up to 85% now... Ridiculous! This is using the original Asus charger.
Connected through PC only gives you about .5 amp charging rate. The stock charger gives 2 amps. If you aren't using the factory USB cable then most likely it is current limited and not applying full power while charging. If you are using the complete factory setup then whatever you are doing is causing the battery to drain faster than even a 2 amp charger can supply.
Sent from my Nexus 7(2012) that has zero issues.
