Best way to get a Nexus 4 in China? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm currently working in Shanghai, and I've only been here a couple of months. I'm a devoted Nexus user, and I would really like to upgrade from my GNex to the N4 as soon as possible.
The majority of my friends and family still live in the States, so I was thinking of ordering one to one of their houses and having them ship it to me. Will I run into any issues shipping a new electronic device from the States to China? I haven't tried this yet, and, when I try to find the answer, Google wants to correct my question, telling me I must mean shipping from China to the States. Anyone have any experience with this?
The other options seem to be:
1. To wait for someone to bring it to me. I've got a handful of people coming to visit in early '13, and that seems really far away. Or
2. To wait for it to be available here in China. Anyone know what to expect for time and price if I wait?
Are there other options I'm missing? Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Two or three years ago they started to check if one's smuggling electronics into China. I don't know if they have gone easy on that. The safest bet is to have someone buy one from US and then bring it back to you.
The other choice is to buy one on Taobao. Once it starts to sell in Hong Kong there will be a million of them either on Taobao or local smartphone market. You just need to be able to tell the genuine ones from the fake ones. Most Chinese get their phones this way. If you have any Chinese friends (male), ask them about it.
Don't count it to be available in China. Google is basically at war with the Chinese government over the hacking thing.
I'm going back to China early December. Its a shame I'm not going by Shanghai though.

This is good advice. Thanks. I'll definitely check with my colleagues to see who will be traveling to the States in the next couple of weeks. I'm not feeling especially patient about this upgrade.

[Q] The Worth of the "Texas Beta" Streak on eBay

If any of you here are following the obnoxious quest for the US to receive the Dell Streak, you would know about the Texas Beta Streak.
I am considering purchasing one on eBay and my questions to fellow XDA-Members are:
- What do you think it is worth price wise currently?
- Do you think the American model will be different?
I do not believe the American model will be different in any way; hardware, software, nothing. Also on top of that, I am afraid the launch will consist of getting the Streak for free with a 2-year contract (I just want an unlocked one!). It will either be a disappoint or a celebration.
.
I've been considering much the same as you, even more so because I am in Canada and how I am going to go about getting even when launched might be a challenge. Of the ones I have watched go on ebay I'm pretty sure they been going 600+. Maybe even more on the ones not doing bidding but the offer option. I'd expect the hardware/software is going to be the exact same, if they software is different you'll be able to get the update, so I wouldn't be concerned about that.
The other thing that I've thought of holding me back is that the registration of the device might not be in my name and what issues might that cause for any warranty replacements.
The rumored launch is next week 14/15th, its already the weekend so nothing is shipping till at earliest the 12th, wait it out till then is what I am doing. If the Canada thing is an issue even after launch for myself then if anything ebay availability should be going up and price down so I'm holding out.
Got one...works great on TMO..having a blast with it!

Say what you want. I paid about $100 more than the supposed list. Beta or not....I have one now and am really liking it. Had it for about 2 weeks now. As far as Beta, this is only a beta for the US. This was released the same time the Final EU ones for O2 were released. With that said other than being on the US network, if these have bugs it is the same bugs the EU ones have.

Cell2get.com 620$ gnote in USA

Hi Friends,
Any body tried this website cell2getdotcom. Gnote over there is 620usd plus free shipping and i have found a 25usd coupon as well. When i applied the coupon it was redeemed successfully, but i didnt go on with completing the order. Anybody ever bought anything from them.
I will call them in the morning to find out if they have any retail location. Google customer reviews are good and one customer was referring to a retail location in newyork.
Damn that's a good price. Lowest on Amazon is $699 right now. Tempted to pull trigger on this but still hesitant after returning my first gnote for screen issues. Let us know if you talk to them tomorrow...

the review is somewhat mixed for the site :x but ppl do get the phone they ordered. some come in perfect, some are locked, some are refurbished etc... so it's a gamble i guess. But since the note is still quiet new now, chance for a refurbished phone is pretty rare i suppose.

Definitely post back, please. I'd do a pickup too. But from their online rep, I'd wouldn't be surprised by bait 'n switch tactics. Most of the "good" comments are obviously manufactured - eg
Nice company to do business with. I don’t do reviews too often but felt compelled to share my overwhelmingly positive experiences so far these past four purchases. I just want to let everyone know that if you like shopping the old-fashioned way, then this is the way to go, with these folks!

Be careful!
I don't like the website it seems like they have everything.
Be very cautious of NYC based electronics websites. Unless it's a B&H Photo or other recognized business.
PATIENCE is the key. We have nothing to lose and everything to gain by waiting awhile.
Prices will go down, Development will be more matured, Many more used devices to chose from. Maybe something new comes out that's better. I have never been an early adopter. I respect those who are and love being the first on the block. I have saved hundreds and had far less headache waiting a while. Just bought the wife's SGS II used for $400 with a lot of accessories chargers and batteries, I bought mine used, Warranty new was not an option in the US anyway, May as well buy from someone who made it work for them.
Probably buy a used Note as well.. in a few months or when I see used prices below $500.
I ordered through cell2get, after reading reviews I was nervous. Online it says nothing about being out of stock but after making the charge and ordering it I received an email thanking me for my order. About 2 hours later i received another email stating they were out of stock. The money is still "pending" and I have not been refunded yet.
Edit: After 5 days my money has been refunded to my account.
"Cell2Get is one of the Nation’s largest cell phone retailers and is generally regarded as offering the best contract-free phone deals on the web"
Orrrrr, they could be a crappy fly by night store in Brooklyn that I've never even heard of (I'm from the area). That quote was from their "about" page. Dishonest on the page, dishonest to the customer's face.
Yep, i was on the verge of placing my order until i read the reviews and changed my mind.
Got it on craigslist factory sealed last week for 670 cash. Probably the cheapest you can find
And don't forget to send the link to the cell2get price to convince the craigslist seller to drop the asking price Works like a charm
Or use that link for anyone who promises price matches.

[Q] Nexus 4 off Playstore in different countries?

The Nexus 4 when logging onto the device section of the playstore in the UK retails for £280 for the 16GB (Jawdropped) Has anyone bought a Nexus from the playstore from countries other than the US? Preferably if your from the UK, would really appreciate it. Also how long does it take to ship and what are the options if it got lost in shipping or for some reason got sent to the wrong address?
Also has anyone had these shipping issues? Sorry for the length of the message
I'll refer you to the original shipping thread for the nexus 7 to give you an idea of how that wemt. Pretty much covers us/uk/aus/canada.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1737556
Was pretty much a shambles. There were delays and orders seemed to go out in random order or newest orders first.
I'd recommend praying to whichever deity/higher power you believe in that the same doesn't happen and that lessons were learned.

Damn it thats got me worried :S They seem to have gotten better as time went on but it looks like a shambles near the start, guessing with that kind of pricing, this is going to be worse. Hoping that local phone shops carry on with the official pricing and not make it £500+ to fit in with the current high end phones -.-

[Q] [HELP] Buying a white Nexus 4

I'm gonna make it clear right off the back - I understand that the phone was released 2 years ago and buying it now is possibly a stupid idea, but the XDA forum is the only place I can rely on in this difficult situation.
So here's the deal: I'm from Russia, and for the last week or so I've been miserably trying to find a "brand new, in box, unopened" white Nexus 4 on E-Bay. The thing is, the phones I found there turned out to be the repaired ones. I assume they were later re-packed to make them look as if they were new. Therefore my question is simple and ridiculous at the same time: where can I find a 100% new white Nexus 4 that I'll be able to ship to Moscow? Thanks in advance for any replies.
P.S. I'm asking this for one obvious reason - I know no American (I guess most of them are American) sites which can theoretically ship phones worldwide.
P.P.S A direct URL-link to one or two of these sites would've been tremendously awesome. Again, thanks in adavnce.

It appears that you can buy the white Nexus 4 from Amazon US. They normally ship to Russia and I couldn't find anything indicating that the phone is restricted. You could also try Amazon UK but presently they only show the Nexus 5 in white.
Good Luck!

Buy an OPO Oneplus One without invite?

Hi.
I´m new at this forum. I have been reading it for years, but now I have decided to sign in. I would like to ask you about the OPO. I have been waiting for an invite several weeks in diferent webs, but without prize, so I have been searching for a good supplier. You would buy an OPO without invite? I want this phone and as I have been waiting for more than 8 weeks I want to buy it now. I have found a supplier that looks good, and with a very good price, may I post the link here to get checked by you? I have been talking with him and he can set an special price for the forum if there is people interested in it. Waiting for your reply. Have a nice day:good:
Please note that I´m not trying to do spam, I have no posted the link yet because I don´t want problems. If you want the link posted I´ll post it here.

I would highly advise that you don't. The version you'll receive is most likely the Chinese OPO which has limited bands for connectivity.

Additionally I would ask whether or not his version comes with ColorOS or CM otherwise you may have to flash CM over it. Sorry I don't know the bands for Europe, I couldn't tell you.
Given OPO can't seem to make enough international versions and so ship straight from the factory to consumers, I'd agree these are likely to be the Chinese edition which anyone can get relatively easily. There's LTE unknowns as well as warranty concerns.
Plus, the term 'special price' almost always means a tidy profit for those involved except the buyer. Not something I'd get involved with given the risks and unknowns.
I would guard against linking anything as, despite claims to the contrary, the OP has more than a whiff of a sales pitch about it that aims to attract PMs.

Im only asking about if you would buy in another store, not trying to sell anything. I didin´t want to post links to avoid problems, I was only asking, not trying anything. I chatted with the seller and he said that is the Chinese edition and can sell the phone for 357,99$ instead 421$ that appears in his advert, and I want only to ask if its a good price and if you would buy it if were me. Hope to get this solved, I only want help, anything more. I have been reading about the bands and seems like will work in Europe, but if someone can confirm this would be great.

I have a Chinese OPO purchased from Aliexpress. I'm using it in Europe (Greece) and it works just fine. Never had any issues with dropped calls and mobile data works great. Everything is as stable as you'd expect.
Bought the 64GB white version for 350 euros including shipping through FedEx. All in all, yes I'd recommend buying outside of the invite system if you do your research beforehand.

So you do get 4g in greece with chinese opo?
If you live outside America you should pretty much be fine with the bands the Chinese One Plus supports: Importing the One Plus One From China - LTE Bands & What You Need To Know
Do your research and you will be fine, importing is the way to go. I've had the phone for over 2 months now and am loving it. :good:
I bought mines from swappa. International version 64gb Sandstone
I just bought the 64GB Chinese model from Hong Kong Goldway on Aliexpress yesterday. Waiting for it to ship and should have it next week hopefully. The bands work fine here so no dramas. AU$500 total which included 3 day DHL shipping. I'm from the UK so getting a flagship phone like this for 280 GBP is amazing.
Bought the 16gb version from to2c.com
Could choose between color os and multilanguage version. Chose for the second one and had it in two weeks (to the netherlands). Everything works fine. Connectivity is good. Only 4g is very limited

I'm supposed to buy one today. The package is sealed, but I'm concerned about service and warranty for the phone since I didn't purchase it under the invite system. Should I buy it? I heard some yellow screen, touch screen, sound issues, etc.

If you're outside of China you're likely going to have support and service issues should you need it, regardless of where you bought the phone.

Will it be your daily driver? If so, I'd look at something that I could get repaired easily and quickly in places I traveled to. Preferably something with a lot of worldwide service centers. Or have two phones (not necessarily two of the same) in case one needed to be repaired for a certain period of time.
If you read the various OPO boards, you'll know just getting a support ticket acknowledged can take time. Additionally, if you travel frequently, you might not be in one place long enough to hang around for a replacement to be sent to your location. A walk-in, no fuss model like Apple does with it's stores is a good 'safety net'. But it costs.
I run two phones. Either my 5s or M7 as primary with OPO as my backup since I'm mostly ROM testing at the moment. Wouldn't have a problem with the OPO as primary but I'd not take it as my only phone. And no way would I use just an OPO if traveling or on business for the reasons above.
