Hi, unfortunately my Nexus 7 fell out of its case and now the screen is cracked. I'm using it with a mouse and keyboard now, as the touchscreen is the only thing not working.
I'm travelling right now and will be in the States for a few days, Fort Lauderdale and Miami to be exact.
As it'll be my first time in the country, I was wondering if someone could tell me if there are shops where I could sell my cracked Nexus 7 and how much I could expect?
Also, where can I buy a used Galaxy Nexus there?
Thanks!

We don't really have stuff like that here dude. There's shops by Miami international airport but I wouldn't recommend that. Try putting it in craigslist and list it as for parts.
BTW craigslist.com is a classifieds site, not sure if you know that since you're not from the US.

man if you make it here to orlando I might be needing one by the looks of it. Trade you for one with a google screen all nice and pretty, but on a serious note if you are in orlando maybe we can work something out. i would travel down there but It is a drive and I am only out there when heading to the ports Ft.Lauderdale or by South Beach that won't be until March next year.

So craigslist is pretty much like gumtree in the UK? Would that also be my best bet to get a used Galaxy Nexus?

Hey, yes it'd be cool if we could work something out. I am going to be in Miami between the 18th and 21st of this month. I am not looking for another Nexus 7, as I'm heading down to South America for another month and a Galaxy Nexus would be perfect in terms of portability. Let me know what you think!

If you're going to be in the USA for more than 3-4 days and you know someone here, I would recommend you just buy it through the Play store (or have them buy it and pay them back when you get here). It's 2-3 days shipping as they force you to pay for that and it's about $10 on top of the cost of the phone + tax.
The main reason is that if someone is selling what is more or less a new phone on Craigslist, there is a VERY high probability something is wrong with it. Like a friend of mine who going a Galaxy S III off eBay and now is stuck with a piece of crap that reboots itself randomly 5-6 times a day...or like when I bought a GS2 off Craigslist only to find it randomly powers off whenever it feels like it. So even if it seems fine when you check it out, you might be buying crap.
In other words, you are probably buying someone's problems in the high end phone area. You might also consider buying it new from a place that sells phones off contract. Most retails stores allow that as well. Not worth the $50-75 you might save buying it "used" off Craigslist.
if you want, id be interested in purchasing it from you. just let me know how much you are asking and maybe we can work something out.

Thanks for the info. Do you know how much tax it will be? From what I've read it should be 6% in Florida. Is that right? Buying it brand new is also an option for me, as it is still considerably cheaper than in the UK. From a quick search it seems most retailers don't sell the Galaxy Nexus for $349, as offered in the Play Store. Am I right in believing that?

Looks like 7% in Miami. Yes, $349 is the MSRP, so $373 should be your price when all done. Unless you go Play store, then add about another $9-12 for shipping.

Thanks for the info! I will probably get it off Amazon for $390 (the white version), because I can't buy the phone through the Play store outside of the US and I am not too keen on using a proxy website.

I definitely want to pre-order the N4 as soon as possible, but I don't know how Google are with shipping etc.
Did they ship before release date? How fast was shipping and how much did it cost?
I want to make sure I get it quickly, otherwise I'm stuck with a backup phone for a while...

They got shipped late, there was too few to satisfy demand and at one point they decided to send newly placed orders before earlier orders.
Delivery was a standard 2 working days think it was £9.99. They changed to overnight delivery due to the delays.
If you are brave here is the preorder shipping thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1737556
Based on the nexus 7 preorder I'd advise against it.
Edit
Forgot there was also problems in the UK with incorrect delivery address on a lot of them.

Thanks. Do you think other retailers with have it available for pre-order?
Also on the subject, when they say "available for order" on the 13th, does that mean 12:01am?
I'm in California, and wouldn't mind staying up to get my order in :victory:
Not likely to have Preorder.
From what I understand, the actual release date is Nov 13. It doesn't look like google will be doing a preorder for this one. That said, the N7 preorder went well for me, I grabbed it early and got it on a friday, knew some others who didn't get theirs until after the weekend.
i did the pre order for the nexus 7 and it went pretty well over all. there was a bit of a delay due to high demand but i dont hold that against them. got mine when they said i would. in perfect condition and have no defects or problems.
Ordered my n7 on the first day of pre-orders, didnt recieve it for quite a while, people who ordered after me got it first. But it was worth the wait
Still not gunna stop me ordering this!
Waited about a month to get my Nexus 7 16GB, meanwhile all local stores had it in stock and I couldnt cancel. So, I wouldnt say they were very efficient.
If the N7 preorder was slow and delayed, I have to think that this one will be even worse, there's plenty of buzz for the phone.

So were pre-orders for the Nexus 7 started at midnight?
I would think there to be a tremendous difference in demand between a lame ass 7" tab and a quad core 2gb mobile phone with the latest hardware priced insanely cheaper domestically than elsewhere. Insanely cheaper, period.
Never know but I don't expect the 16gb Nexus 4 to last 5min.

Why?
Only people who follow these tech sites know about the Nexus 4 here in the UK, no tv, radio, newspaper articles have been shown.
We also get stock from a totally different country to US orders.
For the mast majority, only people who go into an O2 store will know about it, and their stock differs from the playstore stock.

What does spam f5 mean and what kind of info should you have ready?
I have already bought stuff from the Google Play store so they have all my details. I figured I would just sign in well before midnight and when the Nexus 4 became available I would select it to buy.
Has anyone bought like a device on the first day available and would like to share what happened?

Assuming you're serious, spamming F5 means quickly and repeatedly pressing the F5 key on the keyboard, to constantly refresh the webpage in hopes of it letting you order the phone
I have never heard of that before even though I have been around computers since the 70's. Thanks for the clarification.
I thinking the UK is going to be the easier place to get a midnight order done. There have been no ads or whatever as someone in this thread has already said. Also, here in the UK the majority of people buy off contract phones so this one isn't going to be that different. But on the flipside in the US there is a massive LTE network that you wont be able to access and that will cut the amount down quite a bit. I'm guessing they will sell a lot but I don't see it selling out...... unless they start running ads after they open the site to orders.
http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/1...-shipments-start-november-13th-no-pre-orders/
I wouldn't bet or hold your breath on a midnight release, but who knows anything can happen.

I am currently changing my family over to T-Mobile and had ordered an HTC One for both my wife and I and we received them yesterday. I activated my wife's phone as well as my daughter's phone but I have not done my phone yet. Honestly, I have said for awhile that I want a Nexus Phone, and since the phone is almost half the cost of the HTC One it helps saving money to be able to get a Nexus 5 when it comes out.
Now here are my questions and hoping you all could help guide me: With Google I/O starting tomorrow should I get the phone now or wait to see what is announced at Google I/O (Though it sounds like the Nexus 5 won't be announced until October / November)? I ordered these phones via phone so can I return this HTC to the T-Mobile store? And since I want to return this and I they already requested my phone number to be transferred should I get the Nexus 4 from T-Mobile or order from Google Play (I have NO IDEA why the same phone is $130 more on T-Mobile but I will look that one up).
Any advice would be very helpful! Thanks!

While there won't be any new/major hardware revisions, it never hurts to wait, especially if it's just a day more.

The reason why it's cheaper on the Play store because Google sells them at a loss. More precisely they don't make any profit off the phones at such a low price tag. That's why T-Mobile and perhaps some other retailers will sell them for a higher price to make a few bucks off of it.
Since all Nexus 4 are the same you might as well get one from the Play Store. If anything goes wrong, Google can get you a replacement. It's also much cheaper. It comes unlocked so feel free to use it on any GSM carrier.
I think you should wait and see what happens tomorrow at the I/O conference. It seems though a new Nexus smartphone won't be released until the very end of the year.

Lol. They don't need the money. I'm not really sure why they do it. When the new Nexus 7 tablet comes out this summer they're gonna lose $5-$10 for each device sold.
Another interesting thing is that the Galaxy S4 costs about $237 to make. Buying it without a contract will cost you over $600-$700. Crazy, huh?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
They are trying to introduce more people to the play store and android experience, that's why the price is lower. Wait a day and see what happens. But if it comes down to your question about should you return HTC one for the nexus 4, I would. You'll have extra $200 to buy accessories or maybe donate some $$ to charity.

Wait until tomorrow just to see if there will be a storage bump. You can return to tmobile within 14days (30 in CA) as long as you are a new customer, for renewals tmobile no longer has a "cooling off" period so I'm not sure what the process on returns is. Buy from Google. The Samsung S4's BOM (cost of materials) is <$250 now the cost to research/market the phone I find hard to believe would come in at $500 (assuming a $750 unlocked selling price) and yet that is what they want you to believe...my point is Tmo sells the N4 for $130 more because they can and that is what people are used to paying.

So the first article has conjecture and rumor from "analysts". The last 2 are about the nexus 7, a different device, but also say that google is making very little money or selling at cost (which means they aren't losing money and is believable.)
None of the articles have anything to do with you contradicting yourself nor do they have any info from google concerning the cost of the device so...you still contradicted yourself and you still don't know how much money they are/aren't making.

Yep, "we" have known for awhile that these devices only have $200-$300 worth of parts in them and google is using their size to push down prices for devs. Unfortunately it isn't doing anything for the general price of phones, in the US at least, since most people are still on contracts
Google is an advertising company at heart, everything they do is geared towards getting people online 24/7. Hardware is a loss leader

Hello,
I am in a serious dilemma
I was anxiously waiting for the New Nexus 7 dubbed as Nexus 7 II. I was waiting for it like anything and checking it daily for months if anything new came up about the device until yesterday, it was officially announced.
However, I am very disappointed. The disappointment is not because of the device but due to the fact when it will release in the UK . I sold my nexus 7 first generation last week and my xperia so I could buy New nexus 7 and a new phone. Well, I love the new nexus but the problem is it won't release in the UK till September. I was expecting it to come to the UK the same week as it happened last year. Now without a tablet n a proper phone (using HTC incredible s in terrible condtion) I feel terrible. Hooked to technology and couldnot stay without it, I am not sure what to do.
To make matters worse, I be travelling to Malaysia/Thailand on august 9 and I won't be back by December due to some assignments.
I ask for suggestions what should I do.
I am going to get a phone for sure tomorrow so phone wouldnot be a problem.
My plan was to get a cheap phone and a Nexus 7 2 so I can manage between the two. One has to be cheap !
Hear are my choices, but if you think of anything better, please do not hesitate to reply.
1) Get a normal android phone for about GBP 100-150 max and get a cheap tablet and wait till December till I buy a new Nexus 10 or Nexus 7.
I personally like 8" Tablets. Will there be an 8 incher by then?
2) Get Nexus 7 again and wait till 2014 to buy a third generation. Would it live long enough to see Key Lime Pie ?
3) Get Nook Ebook Reader, the simple touch, get a better phone and just read books till then and use my phone for all the stuff.
4) Get a flight to USA, get two nexus 7 2, come back to the UK and then travel to Malaysia. [I wish I could afford such a lavish trip ]
You can understand how much I am willing to get a new Nexus 7 but at the same time, the disappointment of not having it till next year is killing me. I am just thinking of getting a Nook ebook reader and do everything else on my phone.
What do you suggest !!!
EDIT : I got my Nexus 7 and the sad part is , the top speakers do not work In another situation, one after another

for the price of nexus 7 2012, i was getting nexus 2013 in US through a friend so i skipped the old one and asked a friend to get it for me. now the problem is that her littler sister's coming who is only 12. her mom agreed to put nexus in her suitcase but the girl wont have any handcarry luggage. Now i m a bit uncertain again as i checked drop test video at youtube n few bumps wont turn new nexus 7 on. I know the aircarriers usually don't care about fragile stickers and throw things around? Thus there is a chance i might get nexus but not in working condition. So is there any way to make it shock proof?
should i go ahead n pay the 270$ price tag or wait. I have to sent the money to US so please reply quickly. thanks alot in advance
I personally wouldn't trust it in a bag with no proper packaging to secure it from bumps and bruises so to speak.

Leave it packed in the box and wrap it in bubbles, it will be just fine. And put it in between some clothes in the middle of the suitcase. Or the girl can take it out and carry it in her pocket as her personal device.
When you think of it, delivery companies don't usually handle packages very well, and stuff still comes trough okay. Also whole crates of N7s travelled by ship from china and they are still fine.
I ordered a cell phone from amazon recently, there were now bubble wraps or anything, just an original box, wrapped in amazon carton, the phones box had some bruises, but the phone itself is fine. That was only from italy to slovenia but still.

Thank you for your help. Appreciated!
The nexus has been bought and it is arriving in a week now. So this is all decided.
I asked her Mom to open it and check for any defects in case any just to be on the safe side. Moreover, the girl is 11 or 12 so giving a device in her hands is a bit risky. Bubble packing makes sense and I already had thought about putting it in between clothes. I hope someone else tags along and can put it in carry on luggage. I will specially ask for bubble packing and keep it between clothes etc though.
In past, I have carried my devices(phones in socks, boxes etc) in plane for so many times and I never had a problem yet, once i bought a toy for my brother and it was in my luggage and it was slightly damaged/broken from its side however I was manage to fix the tires back(Big monster truck about 5 kgs)
Nexus has more weight than a normal phone and also it's very prone to drops as i saw the video on android police or android authority.
That just terrifies me!
Everything is fine, it came just fine and she just brought it without even opening it.
I had a faulty speaker though which started working on its own after some heavy gaming (Heat required for flux to melt a bit I guess )
