I recently went searching for a collection of build.prop for any and all devices and although I could find build props for several devices, I usually needed to know some specifics about the device and then search google for the build.prop. This is all fine and dandy for finding a build.prop here and there but what I really wanted to find was a centralized location for any and all build prop files. Will this be useful? Who knows, but it's easy enough to gather this data and present it in a way that is easily searchable and open to the entire public.
With that goal in mind I have started by creating a very simple application that will allow a user to upload their build.prop to my server. I'll be working on the server side to make it possible for anyone to simply browse through the various build props that have been collected via this application.
Participating is as simple as installing the app and clicking a button. After successful upload of your build.prop you can simply uninstall the app. If you are game for participating then please check use the link below to download the app and submit your build.prop. Once I get the server side all set up I will update this OP and provide the url for where you can access the acquired build props.

Thank you in advance to those that participate and contribute to my efforts in providing a central repository for device build props.

I agree and whoever offered to retweet about it and did not is a douche.
To be fair though, this isn't an entirely new concept. I have an app on the market that pulled specific fields from the build prop and would sync that up with a central DB if the user opted to do so. This goes a step further and collects the entire build.prop for later use, and for others to look up as well.
Not a bad idea, shall submit soon, could this also be expanded to be used (in the near future) to edit the certain aspects of the build.prop automatically, ie; to adjust Ro.product.model from default to Galaxy Nexus or which ever phone model, to make certain apps work , ie camera , and then back to default if you wanted to. mere suggestions though
I forgot that I had a modded build.prop . I tweaked it to make use of the 4.2 camera. Please pull the "Google Nexus 4 sgh-i847". I'd hate to be spreading false information
Fascinating I will be uploading mine as well, if I have a custom ROM will that change the build.prop in anyway?
great idea ...
submitted mine ...
I have been thinking a bunch about how best to optimize the information in the build.prop. There are so many non-standard ways of doing things.
One of my projects probes and sorts devices based on their build.prop and I am constantly amazed at how wildly they differ. Even sorting CyanogenMod and CM kangs is difficult to do well. Sorting by build date took me a long time as well.
I have a feeling you are going to see a bunch of modified info, as some apps and users mod theirs and then forget. But maybe you have some sor of aggregation method that will eventually overrule bad data.
I find it maddening that the build.prop contains no standardized information about screen resolution, i.e. large-mdpi or xhdpi, etc.
I will be looking, thanks for trying to make some sense of this world. It won't always be like this, thankfully. I am glad you asked me to vent my frustrations while I was here...:silly:
Edit: I have maybe 80-100 random builds on my desktop at any given moment, for bunches of devices. Any plans for a web uploader or did I miss it?
great idea! just submitted mine, hope many others will follow to make this collection successful.
Submitted mine and then realised after reading comments that it's tweaked, I went to your site to find it (under LT26i label). It contains v6 superchager data in the bottom of the file. Please remove it if needed.
OpenBuildProp Project
Uploaded my build.prop file from the phone for LGL45C Optimus Net from Net10.
Nice i will do this later for my Gio phone and Tom-Tec tablet.
Would be nice if this helps me out to find device that are like my tablet. (Telechip, Arm7,)

Would this app work with minSdkVersion 7 as well? My Nook Touch reader (eInk display, touch) still runs Android 2.1
Uploaded Nexus4 with another update
uploaded build.prop of captivate running slim ics 4.2
and 1 thing I would like to see is to add a button in the app which will take the user to the website when pressed
and really nice work and idea
Uploaded HTC Vision running Andromadus Mimicry 1.5 ICS
also can't upload from my stock Nexus 7 running Jelly Bean 4.2 get a failed to upload error, any suggestions?
cheers
this is awesome
thanks for doing it
i would also love to see maybe a spin off of this project which lists known meanings for the abbreviations used in the build.props
tried to start one such thread here awhile ago
it never really caught on

After getting sorta annoyed with the whole interface of the regular HTC Sync, I finally decided to go on the venture of creating my own media player dedicated for all Android powered phones. This will be a freeware based on the current itunes design (but not too similar). The picture below is simply a sneak peek of what ive managed to do so far...it still doesn't play back songs but it extracts id3 tags and album art and im working on getting the visualization in it to work (the visualizer will be similar to zune media player).
For those of you who are willing to contribute, I will make a basic version and will be happy to give out to beta testers who are willing to test it out. This is completely harmless to your phone (FYI).
I do realize there are many different sync managers for android out there but take note that none are as dedicated to the android as itunes is for the iphone.....which is why I pursued this task in the first place.

You seem to have forgotten the picture.
Anyway, I've been working on a media player for video podcasts and I've gotten that into a not too bad state so we may be able to collaborate and help each other out with this.
what's the picture that I forgot?
Anyway, I am currently working through the ADB interface of the android...for those of you who are interested in the coding aspect of it. And, using that, I will allow the user to have a mini file explorer and a terminal to interface with the device. Because this is adb, I think that we can do this all theoretically under bluetooth....
EDIT:
OOOOOOOOOOH I AM SUCH A DUMBASS....I thought you meant "the big picture". I thought I uploaded the picture, but anyway I am gonna post the real thing late tonight so Ill post new pics with that.
Ok a picture has been uploaded. The actual thing is probably going to come out tommorow for beta wilderness...
NOTE TO BETA PEOPLE:
A new beta test will be posted today as a PM. Please check your xda inboxes at around 8:00PM EST. Features of this new beta should probably be attached in the email.

If you want to be a beta tester, you can join anytime by asking on this thread or posting your email somewhere here. I will also try to make a website (subdomain) were I will host the files as well.

Beta version .55 has been posted as a public due to it being the first version. The following versions may or may not be public.
Whats new-
Well, everything is sorta new but basically, there is nothing in the device panel because I need to know if all android devices are able to connect to it. Once that is confirmed, I will make the next release some time this week with an "Itunes style" device screen...
http://macsolvers.files.wordpress.com/2008/01/itunes_iphone_sync_window2.jpg
Anyway, in this version I made a simple media player which basically just plays and I also made an android'ish look to it with the green top bar. Also, I was inspired/frustrated througout the 4-day process by iTunes and it's complex UI. In the end, I managed to get the prominent features in and I will need to do playlists, device panel, and etc.
this looks really cool. i'll definitely try it out since i still havent found a program to do this that i like. i'll test later if you need
Doubletwist offers the same product no ?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
actually yes. I thought about that very same thing however, this is a little different. For example, mine is going to have widgets and a lot more control over YOUR device. By that, I mean that you can literally put your device in adb mode (on htc phones, it is "htc sync" mode) and it will detect it and display intrinsic things which other media players do not. For example, you will be able to directly deploy an application and do all the fun stuff without laying a finger on the device itself. Hopefully, I will perfect the wifi sync to work as well so if you are connected to the network, it will work as well. Similarly, I will also get the app to work with cloud services such as box.net so you can sync with that as well to keep a backup just in case. All in all, doubletwist doesnn't let you get the full personalization which itunes provides for ipods and that Zune media player provides for the Zune. And doubletwist merely treats your super smart phone as a "mass storage device", which will not get you far if you are tying to sync with marketplace and etc.
-I hope you are convinced now, if not you will be by the next version
Beta 1 has been released. I would really like for people to comment simply if their device connected with the program....
-Thank you.
beta 2 released and it's a beast!
beta 3 is out and finally, we get to have automatic sync when a device is plugged in/detected. Speaking of which, there is also a button now which lets you manually detect a device.
There is also playlists now...you can make your own playlists.
and make sure...
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE COMMENT ON WHETHER IT WORKED.....If it is a sucky app, please comment that it is...
-Thank You
Dang, would love to try it, but I own a mac. Sorry…
np. Ill try to get some others to test it out....

Android Market v3.1.3
Requirements: for all devices with Android OS
Overview: New Android Market / Adds +1 For Apps And Games, Pin Number For Purchases, And More…
(for all devices – does not require root, but you do need to enable ‘Unknown Sources‘ in Settings-> Applications.)
Changelog
- Adds +1 For Apps And Games
- Pin Number For Purchases
- And More…
Info:
There’s a brand-new settings menu, as well as click-to-read explanations of app permissions (not developer customizable, unfortunately). There’s also a brand-new Market icon to spruce things up.
Oh, and did we mention you can now use a custom PIN for purchases on your phone, instead of leaving your Google Checkout wide open for anyone that picks up your device? If you have kids, or your phone is stolen, this is one awesome feature to have – and really, it makes a lot of sense.
You can get the new Market .apk here, root access is not required, but you’ll need Unknown Sources enabled in the Settings -> Applications menu to install it.
Installation Guide:
1.Download the apk from the links
2.put the apk on the phone ,don't use adb install *.apk in won't work it will say it already exists
3.Open the apk from the phone using a File explorer (ASTRO for example)
4.it will ask you if you want to replace the current market, press yes.
5.wait for install and voila you have the new market
NOTE:this method replaces the old market.

set in usb mass storage mode. Look for
a hidden folder called ".android_ secure"
and then delete the file
"smdl2tmp1 .asec". Unmount and you
should be good to go."

Thanks for this! 3.0 is a bit slow compared to the previous market. This installed no trouble and is running really really well on my Alpharev S-OFF rooted LeeDroid HD 3.3.5 data ++
Better than the previous 3.0.27 - performance wise.
It loads the screens faster and the download is faster on mobile network connection.

in my opinion 2.3.6 with slow mobile network is still 10 time faster
will the Desire update itself to this - as I am on 2.3.6 still and haven't moved automagically at all to either of the three incarnations of the marketplace... does it only roll out to newer (dual core?) phones?
has anyone seen it update itself without running the APK on any devices come to think of it?
anyone know how to make market update itself (silent update) to the latest version ?

Yeah! You're right! The 3.x market applications are very slow! When one starts the application, it runs almost OK, but gradually it runs slower and slower when the user browses through the applications. I wonder if Google plans to launch Android on PC! The vending application would run reasonably on a PC!

Really slow!!! Anyway to speed up??
Speed is fine for me. But i am getting duplicate entry for this version, everything else is really neat.
Really like the new PIN function
It's great, thanks. I only have one problem, can't see paid apps. They just loading and loading ... Can see only free apps
is this in english, or does it install, in the same language as the previous market?
Runs well on cm7. Thanx alot my man top shizzle.

Since I am using this service from day one, but i have never read a word regarding this on XDA forum. so writing a guide who are not aware to this service.
Priorly with SGS i have tried, but was not available to my country(india), but this time with Note we are lucky.
To activate this service
First Go here
http://samsungdive.com
and register your account(free)
- Now on mobile go to setting-Location n security - Find My mobile
1.check SIM card change alert
2.click on alert msg recipient - Now login with credential, you have register on above mentioned samsung site. - and add recipient mobile number (your other number / family number) on which you will get notification, if SIM will changed.
3.check Remote control
Now when you visit samsungdive.com n login, you will see your register device there, (see Image above)
Click on your device.
You will see this
Now you can track your mobile. It have all function which available with many costly applications on market like
-tracking on map (to check location)
-Ring mobile (to find device in nearby location)
-Forward msgs
-call logs
-wipe out device etc
Hope it will be useful to G-Note user.
I didn't know about this! Thanks!
Samsung Dive is an excellent tool.
it also helps with few other things.
The other day i misplaced my note under my desk and i went online and made it ring( it rings even in silent mode )
Sounds great! I will have to check this out. I have been using SeekDroid since it came out, but this might be a more fool proof way, since I have had issues with Seekdroid while running practice tests. Thanks!
Doesn't seem to work in the US. Saying my ZIP is not enough digits and I don't see the setting on the phone menu to "find my mobile."
Edit: nevermind, deleted the optional address information. Still not working yet...added +10000000000 (0's are my phone number) since I'm in the US....
Edit 2: I previously had a SGSII on my Samsung account. Perhaps it's trying to locate that device (hehe, the new owner is probably panicking).
How can I delete that device and add my Note?
Edit 3: Nevermind, figured out how to add the Note here:
https://v2.samsungdive.com/help/guideRemoteControls.do
Doesn't say how to delete a device I no longer own though....
thanks for this
Although find my mobile worked fine with me "lock mobile" and "ring mobile" didn't although it is showing as succeeded on the web
any idea?

The FAQ says to delete (disable) the feature on your phone before selling it.
I factory reset it so it had to be disabled as the phone re-formatted.
Oh well. Works on my Note but I hope I don't wipe some guy's SGSII that I sold it to lol.
this is a really good tool, i played around with it for a while and its an asset

Tinfoilhat and all, but any and all cell companies know where you are 24x7. Hint: they could give two ****s.
I, on the other hand, want to wipe my phone if I lose it, so I'm in. Samsung can watch me drive around all they want but I'd be willing to bet they have better things to do, like make Touchwiz more bloated and the like.

Got it to work in USA. Thanks for posting this.
Alright, so I got my Nexus 7 last Christmas like a lot of people did, and I've been having fun with all the modifications, CM 10.1, ParanoidAndroid, SmoothROM and stuff.
Yesterday I switched to AOKP to give it a spin, but for some reason none of my Google apps carried over like they usually did, so I just switched back to my usual rom and noticed that I was strangely going through the initial setup process for Android devices. Like picking the language, giving your Google account and name, etc. Except every single time I go through this, I get similar errors that the setup crashed, or gapps crashed, or something Google-app oriented is dead. Anything with gapps flashed or included that has this same error (pictured below) in the set up and I have no access to other apps besides elementary things like Settings. If I install SmoothROM without Google apps, it will allow me access to everything, minus gmail, G+, Play Store, Maps, Chrome account, YouTube account, etc. It's a pain.
Since I can't get past the set up on my usual roms, I decided to try a 4.2.2 rom since those are new and cool I guess, and it might work, idk. Apparently I thought it was more simple than it is, because it ended up booting after flashing and having the exact same problem, but now when I switch back to any 4.2.1 rom, it boot loops at the boot animation. Basically now I'm stuck with the setup error on only that 4.2.2 rom, because everything else is unusable.

TL;DR, I'm getting this ^ error on every rom I can use, and now that I've tried a 4.2.2 thing, it bootloops earlier on any 4.2.1 rom.
Any possible knowledge or aid in getting this to work without wiping my stuff would be awesome. Although if it has to resort to wiping/factory reset, I will. Backup advice would be nice as well in that case. Google apps is a core problem, because its apps are crashing, and the problem was nonexistent if I had no gapps installed. (However that was before the 4.2.2 problem.)
Thanks.
Also, this is the 4.2.2 rom I used, if that matters.
Alright, well I ended up being unable to fix the problem, so I just did a factory reset/wipe and reflashed SmoothROM and it's working like a charm again. This post was just my last resort effort to possibly fix it, and with the delivery of my MOGA controller today, I had to get it running immediately.
I guess the moral of the story is to always be informed before installing alternate versions of Android, and to know what you're doing with Google Apps, because they're integral and important to the OS.
(ps the MOGA controller is amazing)

Thanks for the advice and consideration. My email is pretty old and I've been web searching with enough aliases over the years to not really be too affected by spammers/pranksters/trolls. Given that, my email is actually pretty bare, so I guess Google's built in spam filter works pretty well
Besides that, I like people knowing my email is legit or something, lol
