This is my first post on XDA and what a way to start, just bought a Galaxy Note 2 N7100 White today(although I would've loved the grey one but got a good price on this so yeh). Got to say, so far I love the phone and apart from the size, I have no gripes with it. I'm thinking that if I am struggling a little bit right now and it is without a cover, how would it be with a cover on? I guess I'll use it for a few days and see. Galaxy S3 feels tiny in the hand now lol(never thought I'd say that). I have a couple of questions and would be glad if someone could answer them.
Does anyone know how to make one app full screen when using the multiwindow feature? Also, how to swap apps? I saw a video online which had two buttons next to the divider line but there aren't any buttons showing up on mine. I have an o2 variant if that is any help.
Am i able to flash a stock rom(without o2 splash screen and bloatware) without rooting? Would this unlock the device also?
Thanks

Thanks, and sorry I just realised now, was trying to find how to delete the post and repost it in the Q&A section.
To make the app full screen:
With the arrow in the divider pointing to the app you want full screen, touch the divider. Two options should pop up. Choose the big window.
To change apps:
Drag another app from the multi window to the location of the app you want to replace.

i agree with you, after using my Note II for two weeks. Using my GS3 and One X feels so tiny in the hands
Try using a smaller phone like a non-android 2+ inch screen. When I did it, I was like.. :sly: to to :sly:.

True enough... Note 2 make me love the big phone.... the rest of the small phone :sly:

Im purchasing a used Note 10.1 tomorrow and was wondering if there is anything specific I should be looking for on a used unit. It is supposedly in perfect condition and just has not been used as much as the original owner thought he would.
Thanks!
There was one guy who had problem with the S pen, so see if its work 100% as it should.
Physical condition is important but i think u will see that anyway.
ps. if the guy has flashed something on the note 10.1, then do check if the tablet has still its IMEI
there was one guy who had lost his imei and tried to sell me his phone lol
Make sure camera works. Check to see if there are any dead spots with touch screen(go to app drawer & touch different icons & move them around), make sure s-pen works, check for scratches or marks on screen & body. If you can tether to your phone or in a place with wifi, make sure you can connect to wifi, see if maps can get a gps lock.
Running a benchmark or two is not a bad idea.

Thank you guys. Examined it, especially the s pen and this tablet was definitely the right choice!

Oh my, finally an Android tablet that doesnt feel like a downgrade from an Android mobile phone.
Nice lcd screen, nice weight balance, nice keyboard and most of all so smooth, exactly like the Note 2 I had before.
I'm not a big fan of Touchwiz but on this tablet it actually seems to make more sense than in a phone.
I've wasted a lot of money on Android tablets, hope this one lasts me for a while lol!

Yeah just found I have bad light bleed. I'm going to try to get it replaced. It's only annoying when watching videos though.

In portrait mode top left on about 4-5cm and top right side 2-3cm. Shop wouldn't replace it... It's true that in normal use you don't see it, only with dark movies. My Tab2 was as bad or worse but on the 10.1 screen it wasn't so bothersome.
If it bothers me I will try to send it in under warranty.

I dont know I'm living with it for now. Fact is that when you flex the tablet the whole screen goes black or white so probably there is something with how these tablets are built. Also if I press at the spot the light bleed disappears...

Welcome to the club! While I was very happy with mine out of the box I'm getting a lot of pleasure out of tweeking the performance and trying out different apps to take advantage of the stylus (in between playing a shed load of games that wouldnt run on my old tablet).
There is no need to open a new thread because you bought the tablet. Imagine everyone who buys Galaxy Note 8.0 to open a new thread.
Thread closed.
Hey guys, I've got a nexus 4 coming tomorrow and I am really excited! However, there is one thing that kind of scares me... Do the on-screen buttons take up a lot of screen space? Also, what is the best way to deal with them.
Thanks in advance!

No, they don't use much space. Some people like to use the PIE instead, I personally turn on expanded desktop on CM10.1 and downloaded a gesture control app. Works pretty good, esp. because I didn't like the PIE
Haha mine is coming in tomorrow too! Along with the wireless charger and cases I bought off of Amazon!

That makes 3 of us :good: I finally pulled the trigger. I will be receiving it tomorrow. Hope to get the case and SP tomorrow too..
Also most roms have options to change the height of the navbar

Theres not really a "best" way.
Why not just use "fastboot flash recovery" to install it? Its probably the most efficient and direct way to go about it.

The size and alignment of on-screen buttons is perfect with respective to screen size. However, you can change their size also after rooting the device.
Do you mean flashing it through like twrp?

Honestly you can adapt to both options, I used to use it normally and now I am using pie

T-Mobile lied to me... T_T
They said it would be coming expedited next day but they sent it ground shipping... Won't be here till Monday or Tuesday! Lame.
I prefer the navigation bars over pie. If you use a custom rom with the feature then you can adjust it's size so it appears smaller on the screen.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
Flash a custom ROM and adjust the size of them. I personally think the size of the Navbar on stock is hideous, whenever I compare my phone to my friend's stock N4 I think that mine just looks so much cleaner with less black space at the bottom of the screen. 70% works perfectly for me, not too small but not intrusive either.
Just got mine today! Love it so far!

The screen buttons are about a quarter of an inch, which imo is fine. Coming from an s3 I prefer on screen buttons over physical buttons any day and will be a deciding factor in buying any future phone.
Yeah on screen a really more responsive in my opinion. Find myself only having to hit them once unlike my s3.

Thanks guys for all of the info, really excited for my phone to come... Coming from an HTC One S right now and I really like being able to have my recent apps key double as menu on short press and recent apps on long press... Would that be possible with the onscreen buttons?
Sorry for the double post, just wanna say that it arrived last night and I couldn't be any happier on a work day. XD
I don't find them intrusive at all even on the default size, but then again I migrated from an 800x480 phone, lol.
They also auto-hide when playing videos - tapping the screen during the video brings them back again for a few seconds.
Flashing a custom ROM is great for customizing the buttons and what they do. I find that I prefer a menu button over having to hunt for a 3-dot overflow, and I also find a search button useful for quickly bringing up the address bar in the browser so I can type a URL. So thanks to CM10.1 I was easily able to reconfigure the onscreen buttons - I now have Back, Home, Menu, and Search from left to right. The Menu button doubles as a Recent Apps Switcher when longpressed.
What is annoying though is that they are easy to accidentally hit when using apps in portrait mode. I have inadvertently exited Carmageddon many times to my extreme rage :/
Just notice a white vertical series of some white blotch marks :/
I like this phone. But I really like the note 3 screen size.
Is anyone thinking about going back for the note 3?

Nope. The Note 3 has lag and this doesn't. That's enough for me to not even touch that phone.

I will tell you that I hate the Nova option because you can do that on any phone and I like to stay on stock launchers. Also, that's just a band aid. An un-optimized software is underneath.
And trust me, I've had the S3, Note 2 and S4.... Flashing a rom is still using their un-optimized software. It just makes it a bit more bearable.
In my Samsung career I've flashed probably over 100 roms. It doesn't hide the flaws enough. I'm over Samsung and feel sorry for the people who are paying an insane amount of money for a phone with that much lag.

Hi guys! I've been on xda for a few years and finally decided to make an account! The reason being is because in a bit desperate. I have a mint condition Galaxy Note 3, I had it for a little over a year. Lastnight it died on me, I plugged it in powered it back on and now all of a sudden there is a bright neon pink vertical line on the screen!! I have no idea how it became but I did everything. Factory reset, battery pulls took the phone apart blew out all the connectors but still! It's even on while In recovery and in download mode. here is a picture. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Ps it's to the left, doesn't look like much on the picture but it's super annoying in person and really bright.

It sounds like there are some shorted out pixels in your Digitizer. That is the screen that creates the color image under the glass touch screen. Here is a replacement http://www.amazon.com/Screen-Digiti...97888&sr=8-5&keywords=galaxy+note+3+digitizer read the second line in the description. I would watch a couple replacement videos on youtube before you try it. Or you will have to send it in for repair. The problem is hardware not software.
Damn, is this the only fix? Kind of sucks because it is in mint condition and well taken care of. $200 is a lot lol would rather just put 200 down for an upgrade to the note 4. I wish there is a fix for this maybe it will magically go away if I keep using it lol

Sent from my SM-N9005 using XDA Free mobile app
Yes, that's a hardware defect.
Depending on where you are, you might still have warranty. It's 2 years by EU law.
Alternatively, you could put it up for sale (plenty of techies who will happily replace the screen themselves) and buy a note 4.
