The True Successor to the Xoom is here: Nexus 10 - Xoom General

Link to play store.
Its good to see a Nexus 10" line official. The specs are absolutely amazing and while I love my Xoom, I'll admit, I'm tempted.

While the specs are nice, I'm not tempted one bit. No expandable memory, no buy.

I'll be buying 1 for myself! It's beautiful!

Honestly I don't see why anyone would be excited about this if they already have a Android tablet? The only thing that really looks good is the screen. If you watched the video there is lag when the pages are turned in the magazine app. I could understand if this was done on older hardware but when brand new just released has lag then there is a problem. I think the nexus 7 is a better device.
This is just my opinion though. I have a 4g xoom that I use every day for work and play that does excellent. The only device that looks good enough to replace it is the galaxy note 10.1 if it ever comes to Verizon.

No WAN option, so it's not a "True Successor" just yet. Let's hope they don't take too long putting one out, though (and that it's GSM- not CDMA, with optional LTE).

Exactly. I have a SanDisk 64gb Class 10 in my Xoom & love it. If a device doesn't have MicroSD, then it's a no buy for me. I also have a 64gb Class 10 in my SGSIII

The true successor will come from Motorola and no one else, I don't blame google for not having SD card, No nexus have any why give ammo to Microsoft to sue for fat 32, Next year when Google release their Motorola brand tablet and phone we will see a first. 5.0, lte, SD card with f2fs the new format from samsung , both hardware and software will be Google true first product..

no....they tried that with the Xoom 2 and failed horribly.
The Xoom was the G1 of tablets; a google experience device, a pre-Nexus device. The Nexus 10 is to the Xoom as the Nexus One was to the G1.
Branding is irrelevant.

I'll admit it does look nice, but fixed memory is a big no no for me.

And between the G1 and the Nexus One, you had the original T-Mobile MyTouch 3G and the original Motorola Droid which were the lead "Google Experience" devices for Android 1.6 and 2.0 respectively.

Why not? Even LG did a Nexus device, I still believe Google will make a new Motorola Nexus, because they bought the whole Motorola Mobility, they can easily control how the device will be done. And Xoom 2 was built before Motorola acquisition.

Why not what?
The point I was making was that the Xoom's successor did not need to be a Motorola device. The Nexus 10 is the first 10" GED/Nexus device since the Xoom and that's why it is, IMO, the first successor to the Xoom. The Xoom 2 may have shared the name but that's about it. Again, the point I'm making is that we finally have a new 10" Google device. OEM is irrelevant. What matters is that it is a Google/Nexus device.

I remain under the belief that "Google Experience Device" and "Nexus" are NOT the same. The Xoom is a GED - vanilla Android and a Honeycomb demonstration piece, but Motorola included 2 silly pieces of non-removable bloat ware in the form of games. Nexus products do not allow this. This further explains why the JB updates to the Xoom have been watered down, to make obvious that this is not a Nexus device. The absence of the "X" boot animation makes a clear statement to this fact.

The next Nexus phone???

http://phandroid.com/2011/06/15/nex...handset-with-android-4-0-720p-display-rumors/
Doesn't really give me a warm and fuzzy feeling.
So E3D in June or this in December? I'd wait if this was confirmed and I didn't already have a preorder.
"It’s also possible that this device will just be the flagship/reference Ice Cream Sandwich device — just like the Motorola DROID and Motorola XOOM were for Android 2.0 and Android 3.0, respectively — and not a Google Nexus-branded product, so we’ll have to wait and see."
Doubt it will be a Nexus, I expect Google to abandon the nexus brand as there is no need for it anymore. Just as there really wasn't a Nexus 2.
I am still on the fence about the 3d or the Samsung Gs 2. From what I read 3d in June, Sammy in July.

The Nexus S is pretty much the "Nexus 2". There will almost without a doubt be another Nexus. Whether or not its a ICS launch phone is another matter - but one thing to keep in mind is that the original Nexus didn't launch any version of Android.

Not sure I can agree. The Nexus 1 was directly supported by Google. The Nexus S needs to get its updates from Samsung.
That is what I would see as the real value of a "Nexus" device, who rolls the updates.

Where did you read this? Any Nexus branded device is directly supported by google. This has and will always be the case.
"Google Talk with video and voice chat will gradually roll out to Nexus S devices in the next few weeks as part of the Android 2.3.4 over-the-air update and will launch on other Android 2.3+ devices in the future."
http://googlemobile.blogspot.com/2011/04/video-chat-on-your-android-phone.html
Proven wrong. I didn't think it was actually called a Nexus.
The nexus line of phones don't seem to be the "big kid on the block" anymore that sets the standard. More like your "meh" phone that just gets the Google updates first.
Well, to be fair, there's really only 2 devices to put that statement on. We'll see where the next Nexus device stands.
Well the nexus 1 I considered a powerhouse at the time, the nexus s is kinda low end on some things. The nexus 3 sounds like your typical 2011 smartphone, nothing to really drool over or consider selling a kidney over.

WTH are you talking about. these rumored speaks are way better than anything out now including the evo 3d. possible quad core or 28nm dual core plus a 720p display!
But what is with this Tegra 3 talk and the introductory ICS mentions? Heresay, sure. But I would like to think they make a bigger splash with that than a dual-core 'steady run of the mill' one. Then again, as said, the Nexus S was a little lackluster but it also didn't drop when there were any two-core phones, so I could see this being more real then them holding out for the four-core. Though, honestly. I hope the latter is true. A true powerhouse ICS offering. Time will tell.
But if it drops when things are starting to shift, like the last one, it would be a 'tad' disappointing. Not to suggest the phone couldn't be a beast. But still.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus?

http://www.gottabemobile.com/2011/09/08/nexus-prime-rumored-to-have-massive-display-different-name/
A new rumor claiming that the Nexus Prime will be re-named to Galaxy Nexus, have a bigger 4.65in curve display , 8.8mm thick with a more narrow release date at late October.
Looks like we wont have a transformer phone
Edit: http://www.slashgear.com/nexus-prime-chassis-specs-reported-support-page-up-at-samsung-08178114/
Another article with this one claiming a samsung support page will be live soon and the phone will have a full metal chassis.
I no longer believe rumors. We've heard that it's 4", 4.3", 4.5", and now 4.6". We also heard that it's a Verizon exclusive, then heard that all carriers will get it. Then we heard it's not called the Nexus Prime, but rather, the Droid Prime. Then we heard it's running 480x800 resolution (which means it's 480p and not 720p).
Sorry OP, I'm not ranting about you. I'm just ranting about the amount of people that create these rumors to keep the ignorant excited.
Honestly i agree, i dont fall for rumors, i wait until the official source confirms it before i get excited, but it is still news and i think it is worth posting :/
I thought prime was a stupid name. I mean this is stupid too. Coincidentally, I feel transformers are stupid also. Why can't it just be the Nexus 3 or keep the original NEXUS ONE name going and do NEXUS TWO. I consider the nexus s just an update. Like the iPhone 3gs to the 3g.

Thing here is though there are a variety of different phones. First it was 'Nexus Prime' which ruled all. Then, we learned that Verizon is getting the 'Droid Prime' but that IS NOT a Nexus phone. Sure, it might be similar, but that's not the same phone.
We know Google will release another Nexus phone, that's not the question. Do we know the exact specs of it yet, certainly not, but we seem to know more now than we did previously.
Maybe I'm just biased because I'm one of the few waiting for final details on the next Nexus phone, regardless of the name, before jumping on the SGS2 bandwagon.

Weren't we all under the assumption that the original nexus was going to come with a dual core and a larger screen with a higher resolution. Then we were all disappointed when it was a glorified lateral upgrade to a galaxy s series.
My hopes are that we don't just get a glorified galaxy s2.

You mean the Nexus S? Because if you're talking about the original Nexus, dual-core for phones weren't even considered! Umm, for the Nexus S, though, I don't think it was expected to get dual-core since dual-core was very new at the time (or didn't even exist. Can't remember when the Atrix came out). We weren't disappointed with the screen resolution; Samsung did a great job at bringing their Super Amodled display to the phone. The reason why we were disappointed with the Nexus S was because it only shot 480p video, no sd card, and some other minor stuff.
There are supposedly three model numbers for the next "nexus.":
The Droid Prime is an SCH-i515
The Rumoured Nexus replacement is a GT-I9250
The 515 is the Charge replacement.

Doubtful, but with a 4.6" (or whatever it's going to be) there isn't much need for a physical keyboard outside the personal preference to touch keys, not a screen.
I have a feeling phones with physical keyboards are going to be hard to come by in the future. There will be some, but the options will probably be quite limited.
phones with keyboards are coming out all the time. just not on sprint.
droid3 for instance on verizon has a 5 row qwerty. the screen looks like doodoo, but still, its something. sidekick 4g and mytouch 4g are relatively new on tmobile too. sprint just needs to request one from a manufacturer.
its not just bout liking physical keys, i dont want my keyboard taking up half of my screen. i want a real 4.5 inch screen. not half of that because of some ugly on screen keyboard.

Depends on your definition of "soon".
As of right now it looks like it will be released around November.
If you want a cynic's opinion, here it is: The Nexus S was old-hat before it was even released. The only benefit was the ease of unlocking and getting updates first, which sounds awesome until you realize that the initial versions of GB were massively buggy. I'd expect the same for ICS. Add to that the fact that HTC is making it so you can easily unlock all of their phones and the list of reasons why I would want one gets much, much shorter. Non-existent, in fact. I'm actively looking for a way to get my hands on a device with hardware that wasn't dated before the first model rolled off the line or wasn't succeeded months later by a phone with a key feature the original was lacking for a more than sub-par carrier. I've said it before, but to save you the trouble of reading it somewhere else, I should have learned my lesson about buying Samsung phones after the Epic 4g debacle but I didn't. I have now and I'll advise anyone against buying their POS devices.

When did I say it did? Never? Yeah that's the answer to that. See there are things called 'lists' where you mention many things that are all related to one other topic but are not necessarily related to each other. Like a grocery list. See cereal and baby spinach are not related to each other but they are both things I need from the grocery store. Just like GB being buggy and my hatred for the way Samsung treats its customers are both reasons why I wouldn't want another nexus device but they are not related to each other. Does basic sentence structure make sense now?

I think he was confused (as was I) by the fact that your conclusion didn't really follow from your argument. You complained about the phone being outdated and you complained about gingerbread being buggy and then you ended by concluding that you shouldn't have bought a Samsung phone. But everything you complained of was Google's doing.

I just picked up an i9020t Nexus S knowing full well that the Nexus Prime is coming. You know why?
Refined Galaxy S hardware
Comfortable rounded edges (looking at you, captivate)
Great ROM support, with ICS on the horizon
Respectable battery life
Pretty freaking fast
So yeah, the phone's hardware is dated. However, the Nexus S is my favorite size and shape, and OC'ed to 1.2ghz with some speed hacks from different places, I can't even imagine wanting for more speed. Now, this is all my opinion, but you can land a Nexus S now for a reasonable price. So get one and have several happy months of hacking!

Anyone watched the Google I/O?

I really do not know what to say
Xoom is Motorola's first dual-core tablet
Atrix is Motorola's first dual-core mobile phone
Motorola upgraded attitude gap is too great
I can not imagine when Xoom has been upgraded to 4.1 when the Atrix is still 2.3
Even if it is the CPU of Xoom's CPU and Atrix slightly different
But I believe the difference is not large
So, I think this is Motorola's responsibility
Atrix will be my last one Motorola mobile phone

Is not just used to use as a phone user
Play with the user of the machine will continue to buy new phone
But the use of mobile phone users will not
They have changed the frequency of the new mobile phone often low
And when they buy a new phone just to see the appearance of good or bad
Motorola to give up the core users of the playing machines

It's pretty simple, if you want constant updates then get a Nexus phone.
The fact that no Tegra 2 phone has ICS would suggest that the problem lies with nvidia. Even the Galaxy s2 variants that use Tegra 2 don't have ICS yet. Before buying my next phone, I'll make sure it can be unlocked and it doesn't use nvidia. Motorola should actually get better with the releases since its now owned by Google.

I really thought Google would come up with some sort of solution to fragmentation at this years I/O, but they didn't, and I was a little dissapointed.
Instead, they released the new OS early, and are giving it to people with nexus devices first (and the Xoom for whatever reason). And I think they are doing it this way as a way to make consumers switch over to nexus devices out of anger and dissapointment, and to force other phone manufacturers hands at making their versions of the operating system simpler, so their customers get the updates quicker.
The reason why people get the new updates so late is because every other manufacturer has to add their "skin" over the OS, and that takes time and a lot of testing, and that is what Google is trying to stop

It's stock ics with small simple edits however it took Motorola ages to release it

Yeah I saw it, what really takes manufacturers this long to release updates? I know changing the code for specific devices is hard, but it shouldn't take 5-6 months

Bureaucratic development and testing procedures.
I pledged never again to buy a Motorola product after this. When the Atrix first came out, I loved it. Then the locked bootloader eventually killed development. I wish I could count how many devs abandoned the first dual core phone because of the bootloader. Design gears and dagr8 come to mind.
Unfortunately, my girlfriend is stuck with her Atrix until january, and I'm getting her the Xperia Ion. Sad that I'm choosing Sony over Motorola, but they forced us in that direction.

Xoom or Xoom 2 or Nexus 7

Hi
As this is the xoom forum and I have no experience with the tablet I thought it would nice if I can get your thoughts on what to get.
Cheers
P.s will I be able to flash the American xoom generic Rom ?
Xoom2 has slightly nicer screen apparently, is thinner and lighter. Also costs more, no custom roms, no ics, no fun.
Xoom vs nexus has a few threads, one right on this forum. Have a look. Basically, its 10 inch vs 7 inch screen.
And yes, you can flash any rom on Xoom easily.

Thanks, I have read them, they are more about upgrading or changing, but have managed to get some idea from them.
I'd still buy Xoom today, if that helps.
yes thanks it does, I can get the xoom for £250 xoom 2 £269 and the nexus£199, by people thoughts the xoom sounds like the best option. ;-)
Yep, Xoom would be best bet for a daily driver.
If you wait maybe 6 or so months, I'd say the nexus 10 will drop in around 300.
But... its gotta have rear cam, and external SD for anybody with a current Xoom to make a logical move. JMHO.
EOS 2.0 @ MZ604 [XDA-HD]
Stock @ SGH-I717R [XDA-Premium]
Whatever you do don't buy the Xoom 2 Europe edition.
You'll be sh#it out of luck with any updates, custom roms and so on.
The device itself is awesome, but honeytomb just isn't cutting it by a long run.
3G xoom
I brought a 3g xoom from carphonyshithouse, it was like a difficult birth the customer service was awful and they lied and a lot of other bits and bobs. But having used it over the past couple of months I would do it all again its a thing of beauty. I have installed ICS on it and it's even better these forums are so helpful it was easy.
Go get one :good:

I had my UK Xoom from launch, and yes I paid and subsequently learnt that all none-US Xoom's are not GED's.
I have flashed mine to GED but if I was buying now I'd have the Nexus 7 in a shot. Do it!
Again, its all opinion. Id buy a nexus7 if my xoom broke, but untill then all i can think will replace it may be a surface tablet. But we will see.

I have all three, the VZW 32GB Xoom, the VZW 32GB Xyboard, and the Nexus 7.
It is a purely subjective opinion but the Nexus 7 isn't my daily driver still.
I use the xyboard daily. I like having the 4g connection when I want it. I commute 2 hours every day. I switch my sim cards a lot so that i can have unlimited data on my tablet. I prefer the 10" screen but it is a pain to carry around with me everywhere.
If the nexus 7 was lte capable I might switch.
