I have spent about a month researching T-Mobile and have developed this guide to help everyone who needs the answers to the same questions I had. Soon this guide will be put into a PDF version that is all snazzy looking and will be updated as much as possible. Please note: I am a father and husband with my own business, so I am busy but ALWAYS mobile, feel free to PM me.
I am trying to list the best phones with the top specs in this thread. If I helped you at all, please thank me.

GSM // (Global System for Mobile Communications) Also known as 2G, EDGE.
EDGE // EDGE is the new name for GSM 384. The technology was named GSM 384 because of the fact that it provided Data Transmission at a rate of 384 Kbps.
2G // Also known as GSM. Short for second-generation wireless telephone technology. Second generation 2G cellular telecom networks were commercially launched on the GSM standard in Finland by Radiolinja (now part of Elisa Oyj) in 1991.
3G // Short for third Generation, is a term used to represent the 3rd generation of mobile telecommunications technology. Also called Tri-Band 3G.
4G // The fourth generation of mobile phone mobile communications standards. It is a successor of the third generation (3G) standards. A 4G system provides mobile ultra-broadband Internet access, for example to laptops with USB wireless modems, to smartphones, and to other mobile devices.
HSPA // an amalgamation of two mobile telephony protocols, High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) and High Speed Uplink Packet Access (HSUPA), that extends and improves the performance of existing 3rd generation mobile telecommunication networks utilizing the WCDMA protocols. A further improved 3GPP standard, Evolved HSPA (also known as HSPA+), was released late in 2008 with subsequent worldwide adoption beginning in 2010. The newer standard allows bit-rates to reach as high as 168 Mbit/s in the downlink and 22 Mbit/s in the uplink.
NETWORK BANDS & FACTS
T-Mobile offers GSM service in both the 850MHz and 1900MHz frequency bands.
T-Mobile utilizes the 1700MHz, 2100MHz, and 1900MHz frequency band for their 3G data network.
T-Mobile utilizes the 1900MHz frequency band for their entire network. (EDGE, GPRS, VOICE, TXT)
Europe and most of the world use the 900MHz and 1800MHz frequency bands for GSM. For a device to use T-Mobile USA and work in Europe, it would need to support the 1900MHz band and one or both of the 900MHz and 1800MHz bands used in Europe.

Yes, also the ATT SGH-i717 Note1 works as well. same radios can be flashed as well. So will sim unlock both phones work on T-mo. Some, like me, have better luck with T-mo radios that can be flashed.

I think it needs to use the fast.tmobile.com APN. Check with Howard Forums user milan03. He seems to know his stuff.
Found this thread and wanted to add that I have an unlocked Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY R800at that I am using on Tmo in Davis County UT (North of SLC) and I get hspa+ on it. Generally consistent speeds of:
5-7mbps down
1-3 mbp up

The HTC One X+ is announced as compatible with these bands : HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100
And accordind to the first post of this thread, T-Mobile 3G network is using these bands : 3G/HSPA: 850/1700/1900/2100 MHz
It seems that my HTC One X+ is not compatible with the 1700 MHz band... so do you think that my HTC One X+ couldn't be connected to T-Mobile 3G network... or maybe the compatibility with the others T-Mobile 3G bands are enough?

Hello... long time lurker and finally a member of this forum.
Well, I need your help, guys. I have tried in some forums in Spanish but they are clueless. Nexus 4 is not very popular here in Mexico. Here is iPhone land, mostly.
So, let me start:
There are four big carriers here in my country: Telcel, Movistar, Iusacell and Nextel. The first 3 are using LTE 4G and Nextel was stuck with iDEN for a long time. Currenly I have a Nextel, because I live in the border (my house is literally 10 minutes away from the international bridge, so I go to USA about 3 times per week) and I have relatives and friends in the USA, and we use iDEN because it allows free international Push-To-Talk. Well... but it is about to end soon (finally... we can't stand iDEN anymore, but a lot of people here are stuck with the service because we need it). So... starting July, iDEN service will no longer be available in the USA. So, a lot of people are starting to get a real smartphone with 4G and stuff.
Well... Nextel just deployed their new network: Nextel Evolution HSPA+. It is the only HSPA+ network in the country. The others are using LTE. And as an introductory price, Nextel is offering an excellent data plan: 3GB of HSPA+ (unlimited, they slow your connection if you exceed your bandwidth) for just the equivalent of $13 dollars with a 2 year contract. Regular price is close to $32. But it will only last until March 31, 2013. But they will not give any phone with that plan... they will give one of those USB adapters to use the HSPA+ on the computer. But there is a catch: obviously I can't make any calls, but I can receive if I get a phone from them.
One question: I suppose I can just open the device and extract the SIM, right?
But I don't want any of their crappy phones. I want a Nexus 4. But I need to know some things first:
They only have normal SIM cards... I guess this is not a problem, right? I can just cut it and use it as a micro-SIM.
Apparently, the network is only HSPA+ 21... will the SIM work with the unlocked Nexus 4, even if it is a HSPA+ 42 phone?

I've been looking on the OnePlus forums lately, and lots of people have questions about carrier compatibility with the One. Personally, carrier compatibility is the biggest factor when it comes to buying an unlocked phone, so I decided to make this thread to help guide people with compatibility with their carriers. According to OnePlus's website, the bands that are supported are as follows:
GSM: 850, 900, 1800, 1900MHz
WCDMA: Bands: 1/2/4/5/8
LTE: Bands: 1/3/4/7/17/38/40
Now, I am going to start with USA compatibility. If anyone else would like me to add compatibility with their carrier, please reply to the thread, and I'll see what I can do. Hopefully, this will benefit all members of the community.

TELUS is a 4G network. 4G is the latest generation of cellular technology, allowing high definition video streaming and crystal clear voice calls. We first recorded TELUS 4G on the 11th of Nov 2011. TELUS has an average 4G download speed of 15 Mb/s, which is than the global average of 8.1 Mb/s.

It'll work fine on:
EE (Bands 3 & 7 supported by OPO)
Partially:
Three (Band 3 supported, Band 20 isn't by OPO. Band 20 people say will be used for rural areas)
No LTE:
O2 and Vodafone (Both use Band 20 which isn't support by OPO)
3G will obviously be fine however.

You check the coverage map in your area for each of those providers. The one with better service in your area is the one to go for.

That's the cool thing about ST you get the choice of 2 different providers. Glad you were able to figure out the better of the two for your uses. Don't forget to check in areas where you frequently travel to as well.

I have the Samsung Galaxy Light SGH-T399. It works on T-M's current LTE 1700/2100MHz (band 4), but also 700MHz (band 17), which T-M just purchased from Verizon. A few other newer T-M phones are also made to work on this 700Mhz band. It seems that they were planning ahead.

The OnePlus One also works on this 700HMz (band 17) frequency.
Good news for those lucky enough to have LTE with T-Mobile. The 700 band penetrates buildings better, so you'll have a better signal inside Wal*Mart or if you live deep inside a large apartment complex.

Very true. T-Mo will probably use this band to expand coverage, Good catch :good:
However, it should be worth noting that T-Mo plans to cannibalize (AKA "refarm") its EDGE network into LTE. This may sound great; however, this EDGE that they will be converting will be broadcasted on the 1900 MHz spectrum (Band 2 LTE). The OPO will not support Band 2, so OPO users on T-Mo will not be able to take advantage of LTE in many rural areas and markets.

Curious, was this written by OnePlus's P.R. team? Because it really downplays what I consider one of the biggest problems with this phone, namely that it is missing half the LTE bands used by AT&T, the biggest OPO-compatible carrier in the U.S.
The argument, "Oh but they're barely deployed", is pretty weak. The fact is the bands ARE deployed, and they're only going to get deployed more because carriers aren't exactly in the business of wasting their valuable licensed spectrum. In high traffic areas where they're in use I assume it would be pretty desirable to have them because the other two bands might be over capacity, or maybe they aren't even operating on the tower you're hitting.
Everyone seems to be brushing this off. I guess it's OK to settle after all?

I agree, the lack of proper LTE bands really are a turn-off for this phone. Just look at our friends in Europe, whose widely-deployed LTE Band 20 is not supported. I'm not saying that the LTE bands here on AT&T are optimal, but it's worth pointing out that it could be worse. The fact that the One supports Band 17 should be satisfactory for many users; it's AT&T's low-frequency band, so theoretically, it should cover the most people. The higher frequencies would only make sense being deployed in areas with mass congestion. So in cities, it's fair to assume that you'll get lower-than-average LTE speeds.
Now, it could be worse. Take a look at T-Mo users (like myself). We're pretty much getting screwed over. Band 4 LTE, the band that they're using now, is very high frequency. Building penetration sucks. Coverage and range sucks. Their network currently is weak. The new bands they are deploying will be lower frequency, so they should provide more coverage and reliability. However, of course, the OPO doesn't support them, which is a major blow to T-Mobile USA customers.
But hey, for $300 for an amazingly-spec'd phone, we have to expect that some compromises had to be made.

I ordered the the pure edition based on reports that the model would play fine with att LTE. I will not return it f it does not get all of the Bands though. I am curious as to why Motorola didn't put all of the same radio bands into the pure edition.
I don't think att uses those other bands yet. Maybe they plan to in the future or something
AT&T only uses bands 2, 4, and 17 in the US currently anyway so the pure edition will be fine.
So i'm from south america and my carrier uses lte cat 3. Which one should i get? The at&t or verizon should work. The thing is, how to get those models without contract..

There's a lot of half-truths out there about the Pure Edition working on AT&T. It's true that it supports AT&T's major LTE bands, but it doesn't support them all. If you're OK with having access to most of AT&T's LTE network, then it's probably not an issue.
This is from a discussion that I started on G+ Moto X forum:
"Almost all the LTE in Vermont is band 5, and I frequently travel there for business and pleasure. The HSPA+ network is unusable in places like Burlington.
For the second year in a row, however, the unlocked Moto X doesn't allow its users from accessing all of AT&T's LTE network. I think this is a fact that a lot of news outlets and members of this community leave out because it doesn't affect them. The blanket statement by +Motorola Mobility and members of this community that "it is confirmed to work on AT&T" and the like is misleading and only true if the standard of "working" is that it can at least connect to some sort of network, just not necessarily the current generation network."
It seems like the Pure Edition is mainly geared toward T-Mobile. It is missing band 12, but not every where has that. Tmo operates on band 4. T-Mobile is "pure" so it makes sense lol jk

LOL. I think it is just plain stupid from Motorola to have two GSM models for the US market. Do they really used different hardware to cover the different bands or are they just disabled? First would be completely stupid.
I'd much rather that the Pure Edition have all the bands of the AT&T flavor, but as stated by @sabbotage, it would appear AT&T only uses 2, 4 and 17 in the US anyway:

But T-mobile is bringing Band 12 online, and that is not supported. It does really look like there is an F-up here someplace. Hopefully only in the information released.

Yes exactly and AT&T is using band 5 at the east coast (VT).

I wonder if that info is even all correct. That's always what I went by, but it shows band 5 being strictly US Cellular and a few posts back the one person said Vermont is almost all AT&T band 5. So if that is correct then AT&T must be starting to just roll out band 5.

Band 12 is only in some places. It'll probably matter more in a year or so

AT&T uses 17 as the main LTE band in the US, 4 in major cities where overhead is high and 2 is just starting now for overhead refarming the PCS spectrum. Nowhere do they use 5 at all. The phone will work fine with AT&T.
It's the same mess from the 2013 MotoX
XT 1053 = XT 1095
XT 1058 = XT 1097
I can't believe they still release a UNBRANDED PURE version with less LTE band support than the AT&T one.
XT 1097 will be used in canada also, europe, parts of asia and is the one selling in brazil since the beggining of september.
So if you want a true LTE global phone, you are stuck with ATT.

I'm writing this int he hopes that someones know or has experience using an AT&T Note 4 on the Deutsche Telekom. I've tried looking at the frequencies the Telekom Note 4 uses against what the AT&T version uses, but so far it hasn't really helped.
So far I know that that Edge frequencies are the same across to the two phones (850, 900, 1800, 1900), for the 3g spectrum (UMTS) we have:
Telekom Note 4 with 850, 900, 1900, 2100
AT&T Note 4 with 850, 1900, 2100
and for LTE it's
Telekom Note 4 with 700,800,850,900,1800,2100,2600
AT&T Note 4 with 700, 850, 900, 2100 (Bands 2, 4, 5, 12, 17)
So there certainly is some overlap. But I'm looking for someone who has a better understanding of these frequency and compatibility. One bands are the most widely used and available in Germany, etc.
Thanks for any and all help! If it turns out this phoen wont work, there is a great deal going on for the Motorola Moto X pure edition where you get a free Moto E 3g.

T-Mobile Germany uses band 3,4, and 7 for its service. They operate hspa and hspa+ services on band 4 and LTE on band 3 and 7. They also support carrier aggregation between bands 3 and 7. SM-N910A from AT&T won't be sufficient on T-Mobile Germany. In order to get the best service, you will need to purchase the European SM-N910F model.

I don't really mind not being able to get LTE at all times. I expect LTE coverage to be the most complete in larger cities, but the klein dorfs ,etc. not so much.
As long as I get reliable 3g and hspa+ for the most part I'd be content. Having just dropped over $800 I'm not real keen on buying another Note 4.
Are you aware what bands across the different protocols are most prevalent in Germany? I'll be living around the Koblenz area.

You will definitely receive 3G service. LTE service will work in some areas, but not all areas. Also, AT&T phones come with a strict modem firmware, therefore your phone might not work with simultaneous data and voice while using it on their network.
They almost went far enough back in 2013 to put a small soldering into the phone's motherboard that recognizes which carrier you are using the phone on (SIM card was not enough for them). If it's not AT&T, the modem will strictly connect to 2G network. This proposal was rejected by all manufacturers. I know this is a whole another story, but I am just letting you know.

Thank you once again for your response. Voice really doesn't matter. I will barely use it. It sounds from your description though that I will do OK with the AT&T version. BTW the time I'm bothered by not having consistent LTE there will be a new phone I'll want that I'll ensure has international radios.
Hopefully they are still offering unlimited data and a few minutes for 50 Euro.

I am not German, so I don't know what questions you asked me. I did visit Germany a few times on my business trips. When I was there, I did not have unlimited data, I had the basic 5GB plan with 300 minutes and unlimited texts on T-Mobile Germany. Good Luck to you!
Just so there is a final answer on this. I can report that the phone works fine on Telekom! I am getting 4g lte basically everywhere, except in some remote spots on the autobahn and in smaller towns /villages.
