Ok. So I fixed my phone thanks to you guys. But now, after I downloaded a few apps, nothing is Installing onto my phone. Does anybody have any idea what's wrong with my phone? And I have Cyanogen, if I updated it, will it fix it?
You are just full of questions, aren't you. Well of course they are not installing to your phone if you are using a ext partion and apps2sd, then they install on, say it with me.....your sd card.
Sorry I am a little sarcistic when I just wake up

Hahaha... lol... I don't get it.
Can you explain? They were installing at first but now they won't.
I was being a smartass since you said........oh nevermind..... so when you say they don't install, give more info, is it.a problem parsing the package, are they downloading? If they are not d/l than log out of gtalk and sign back in, that seems to be the common answer for that or just reboot your phone

Well, they Download, but they don't Install.
Hmmm...... what's it say after they download, does your phone say uninstall failed, or you just can't find them in your system? What exactly is it doing

Your making me feel bad!! =( Lol. It just says Installation Unsuccessful.
Is it possible than your ext partion corrupted somehow, you could always try a wipe and a reflash of your rom or repartion your sd, honestly I never had this issue and hence not sure of a possible card and have not seen any posts of anyone else to give me any plausible ideas
LOL this thread is funny but anyway have you tried using cyanogen post about Market download freeze? I think that's what you are talking about
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=539780
hope it helps!
I thought that was what he was talking about at first but after reading cyanogen thread, the problem in the thread is when the download is not downloading it just hangs when it goes to download unlike the op's problem where they are not installing
Sounds like a faulty sd card. Could need to be repartitioned or simply wipe your ext2/3, someone here give this kind man the commands to do so in recovery.

Won't work.
What do you mean won't work? What happened when you typed it in? If you got a error then A) You mistyped or B) Your card wasn't properly partitioned before.
Honestly bud you seem to not totally grasp alot of this which is fine because it is alot to learn but you may need to just wipe your rom and format your card then repartition it double checking everything, and type print after you do the 2 partitions it will show you how many partitions you have.
Aren't these threads the greatest. Hey it won't work or what's wrong with my phone? People need to give the most details they can and what they have tried to do to resolve the issue.

You're not supposed to use any other apps2sd with cyanogenmod, it says that plainly in the instructions.
I think the easiest thing is to wipe and reflash.

i went to the menu that says restore to factory / wipe and its still not booting. what exactly do i need to do / download. thanks. (sorry for bein dumb)
You need to wipe your ext partition now. Search this forum for the instructions. Then you need to go back to the CyanogenMod thread and memorize all the warnings he has posted.
You better start reading carefully before you brick your phone. There are multiple warnings saying DO NOT USE ANY OTHER APPS2SD METHOD. Just about all roms now are auto when it comes to apps2sd.

i searched for "wipe ext partition" and cant find anything. can you point me in the right direction?
and thank you guys so much
go into parted from the recovery console.
use "print" to show your partitions, write down the start and stop locations
use "rm 2" replacing my 2 with your ext partition number but most likely it's 2 anyways
then remake the partition using the start and stop locations from the "print" results.
type "quit" or "exit" (i forget which one.
now type "upgrade_fs"
now type reboot recovery and reflash the rom
mmmmmmmmm yummy, a big ol' bowel of booty loops, the prize in the box is an android
thanks guys! with your help she is up and running
but one more question. since i have the new cyan build and you guys say apps2sd is built in how do i activate it? i have an icon at the top saying memory is low.
last question i promise thank you!!!!

All you need in order to get the apps to automatically be moved to the SD card, is to have an existing ext3 partition.
As someone said earlier, use Cyan's recovery (which hopefully you flashed to, right?) and use the Parted application to create an ext2 partition. You will then go back to the normal recovery console and run the script "upgrade_fs", which will upgrade the filesystem from ext2 to ext3.
I'm trying to build a new version of Apps2SD (version 2.6). I'm trying to get this version compatible with EXT4. I have resurrected my Darktremor Kernel (for those of you who don't know what that is...which is probably almost everyone...this is a kernel I built when the Hero source came out), which has EXT4 support.
I have set my ext partition to be EXT4.
The problem I'm having is, if I use the following command:
mount -o noatime,nodiratime -t auto /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 /system/sd
I get the following errors:
During boot: Invalid argument
In ADB shell: No such device
I've tried using -t ext4, but I just get "No such device".
What am I doing wrong here? I've search all over XDA and the Internet. I see Roms that have EXT4 in them, but nobody talks about how to manually mount one (I can find all sorts of information about EXT3, but it appears the attitude with EXT4 is "it just works.")
Thanks.

I have a guide on how to compile your own kernel. The same guide is one of the threads in XDA, but I know how hard it is sometimes to search for something (hence why I'm asking about EXT4)
http://www.darktremor.com/kernels.html
See if that helps as a starting document.
Sorry that I having nothing useful to offer on this subject. However, am I assuming correctly that current recovery images would support an EXT4 when doing Nandroid backups for A2SD users?

Honestly I never tried to backup or restore on an EXT4 drive. I'm sure it will work, but I'm suspecting there's issues with the kernel source. I never had a reason to go to EXT4 (EXT3 suited my needs just fine and there aren't a lot of Roms that support EXT4).

I'm not doubting it does...Amon_RA stated in several threads that it does. But that kernel and the one used to boot are completely different. The problem I'm running into is the one for boot (the 1.5 kernel, or version 2.6.27 of the kernel). It won't activate there, although there is an entry called /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 (so the kernel does see something...it just won't mount).
Maybe the issue is busybox. I'll see if I can find busybox on the recovery kernel and port it.
I was thinking it could be because .27 uses ext4-dev. I've seen a gang load of ext4 patches for .27 I used the rename patch in my kernel. But it seems not to work. When testing it I thought it did work. As a2sd in our init.d was seeming to be working and I had all my apps. But after everyone was saying they couldn't get it to work, I'm thinking I may need to try another patch. But yeah I'm not sure what the issue is. Maybe we can contact cyanogen or amon on this as I know they get it to work somehow.

I'm coming up with the same conclusion...the ext4dev drivers don't appear to work. They load up (I'm getting that from a device dump), but they won't mount. Apparently, it won't mount in recovery, either.
I'm wondering if I grab a 1.6 or better source if I can recompile the part for ext4 inside the rest of the Hero 1.5 source. If I remember correctly with Linux compiling, as long as I have the correct dependencies, I should be able to compile it.
Ive seen many questions in the Q & A forum about this CWM and figured the best way is to get developers and other main contributors to look at the issues some of the "little people" have about using it. DAF was convenient and easy for all because it was one click for the people who could get that far, and since CWM, there where the 3 versions and this one has yet to really be well touched upon as a full tutorial with the copy to SD not being needed any more. I feel as do many others that a main "sticky" thread be made for it with a few FAQ on this section of the forum so they do not have to search too far away from the main thread they are using and get completely confused.
1. Will doing a backup and changing ROMs using CWM with different partition delete my backup?
2. Will doing a backup KEEP my partition?
3. Is it possible to do a partition from CWM or is the partition need to be carried on a computer?
(this to me seemed to defeat the purpose of CWM with some DEVs making their own partition layouts and not using the main ones that were originally laid out for use, no aim towards DEVs because I know they work hard)
4. If I put multiple ROMs on my SD card do I need to change the partition every time if I want to change them?
5. Is there a way to know which backups are from which ROMs I had used?
(I guess this is asking if they can change the name?)
6. How do I know when to "Wipe Cache Partition"?
I know there is *THIS* thread, however there are surely some differences between the copy of those files and not needing to copy amongst other things to which the "new" people do not understand.
If this is just a bother and hindrance to you all, I understand the deletion of this thread, however it did take quite a while to plan out what to write, and what not to should you choose to do so and I would give the answers, however even I do not know all of them and so I leave this to you all for debate. NO PUBLIC BASHING PLEASE

I said it could be moved or deleted just the questions are not very well maintained in that DEDICATED (? HA) forum there are multiple posts of the same and I felt that since there is a sticky thread here that could answer the forum issue of the DEVELOPED CWM program this should be brought to the attention and as such is a DEV related issue. It can and most likely will be moved, do you have an answer to any of the issues the people asked?

This I am not really sure of as I am not a dev but I think it does as the backup is just a backup of your settings, personal information, your gmail account associated with your Android, boot data, and any cache data that you have built up.

You can partition your SD card with CWM but I do not think you can do a system portion as CWM is what creats the system portion when you flash it. It creates a partition in the CWM.

Once again I am not a dev (yet) and I am not 100% sure of this. But I would say if the ROMs you have stored on SD card need different portition sizes then yes you will need to change the partition size when you change ROMs. If they require the same partition size then no you do not need to change the partition size.

You should be able to manually go into your SD card with a computer and change the name on the backup file, but I do not know if this will interfer with CWM being able to detect the backup file. So you might want to write down the original full name of the file befor you change it.

As a rule of thumb I would not delete my cache unless I was about to flash a new ROM.

Hello guys,
I try level best to find the solutions to the problems on my own, but at times like this i have no way other than to bother you.
Here's the problem:
Cannot see the sd-ext partition in the CWM recovery.
Do not get the backup of my sd-ext partition after making backup of the device.
'Restore sd-ext' IS available in 'Advanced Restore' options, but when to use since there's no backup being made.
and so every other problem which may arrive due to this.
Details:
Rom: Jellyblast3.0.4
Kernel: RepencisV7 Final
CWM tried: cwm-madteam-galaxY.zip, CWM_bla_bla.zip, CWMv5-Skin1980-GT-S5360.zip
Everything is in native rfs format
sd-ext is formatted with ext2
Using A2sd by Darktremor
sd-ext IS mounted and working fine(screenshots)
No additional tweaks by me.
Only ten scripts in init.d(attached)
CWM Error Report: ...backing up cache..sd-ext not found..
skipping backup of sd-ext. Creating md5 sum..backup complete. (log attached)
Please let me know..
if any other data/detail is required.
I don't know what's the cause of this problem, though i feel like it might be something related to the kernel.
And also since its Repencis kernel i don't have any clear idea about whom to approach!
And thus made an individual thread for this peculiar problem.
Hopefully, looking forward to find a solution to this problem.

Thankyou sir for your kind interest, but i have used that CWM also.
And talking about kernel sir, i would first prefer to solve this problem then think of opting to 'alternative' solutions.
Because i prefer full a2sd support, i settled with this kernel after testing many.
The only kernel that supports backup of ext is whitesxp kernel
Flash this kernel and the perm cwm included with it will support backup of ext partition although creating a nandriod backup is much slower than with other kernels

Hello marcussmith2626,
I once also tried Merruk kernel and it also used to make the backup of sd-ext when making backup of the device.
In fact. . .its a common thing.
Whenever backups are being made, if sd-ext is present then its backup is automatically made by CWM.
The problem is, in my case its not happening like that.
And about WhiteXP's kernel..
do it support a2sd?
I did try this kernel too. . .but didn't use it for long..since appeared as if it was draining my battery fast.

Use whitexp's kernel and your ext partition should be ext3 . I noticed that Ext3 format is the only format which supported backing up and restoring sd-ext partition successfully. That's my experience . You may like to try.

ps- i am not as smart as i may have sounded above, so please be gentle and use terms, (actually links to take me to some site that will just do it all for me I prefer LOL) that a really cute hot 20 something blonde could understand smootches!!! and PS- i used to be blonde, not anymore, no offense to all others out there.:silly:
