So I use go sms for texting and it gives the option to change the color of the led light, why would Motorola have different colors for the led light but not give an option for it without using a third party app?
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
I use Light Flow from the market. You can change all your notification colors and it works great.
why doesn't mot let you do it? they are all cell phone nazis justlike steve jobs thats why.

That pretty much says it all. They might have just been way too lazy to write apps that can change it themselves
Motorola's UI programmers are sub-par compared to their hardware programmers. Simple explanation. Unfortunately, UI programmers seem to suck for ALL the major phone manufacturers; it's really quite sad. NONE of them use caching to create a liquid-smooth UI like the iPhone has....gotta use a 3rd-party launcher like LauncherPro/ADW/SPB Shell 3D to have caching.
yea pretty much true. the reason for the led colors is mainly battery notification. imo.

I too have been baffled by this. Ever since I installed Launcher Pro and Spare Parts on my Droid X I've been a happy camper though! Smooth as butter.
I hate the new color. What do you guys think?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA Premium App
Agreed. In fact I can't find a single thing changed that I actually like more than how it was before. The whole new theme is a step backwards
I like it better but that's just me. The coloration is a bit closer to the Honeybread theme that I have running on my NC. The dark status bar, the new dialer, new social media widget, all are more to my liking. To each his own though.
I like it.....
Sent from my MB860 using XDA Premium App
i would prefer a choice of a darker theme. i don't like my phone to be super bright.
I think it looks nice. I love it.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
I really love the new look of Blur on Gingerbread, I think they did a fantastic job, and it will make the phone an easier sale on the sales floor as it will catch new customers attention.
most of the colors are lighter IMO, because our screen is more efficient with whites instead of blacks. our pentile screen actually has a white subpixel, which means that if we use more whites, our battery life is better because the phone isnt turning on all of the other pixels to make white.
I think its ugly as hell too. Just needs some theming.
I like the dark notification bar. I really like the stock Android theme. Wish we had the option of using it.
I'll take this over their froyo theme, and I really like the dark blue. But the white menus are just ugly.
I am hating the new update
I just feel my phone looks so cheap and the design is very raw. I did not like the edgy menus. I some how feel Eww... Very bad job MOTO, its does not look professional at all...
It's called "theme your phone".
Personally i think it looks a lot better now. Before it just looked old now it looks much cleaner

agreed, this is pointless. just ranting about motos ui isnt going to do anything.. everyone has their own opinion on it, i love it. moto blur has been the same since release. pretty much that said. same color etc. it is nice to see moto change thing up a bit if you ask me. they had to do something, every other company did, samsung, HTC, lg didnt really lol but sony did as well.
I like the new setup better than the old. Sure there are somethings from froyo that I liked, but overall this update appeals more to me.

I think it sucks and I don't like anything about it, but that's just me. I especially hate the look of the notification bar. I couldn't figure out what the black square with a checkmark in it was for. Then I finally figured out it was the alarm symbol (the old symbol actually looked like a clock). I used to be able to easily see the "H+" and "E" symbols. Now it's an ugly grey square with a microscopic H that looks like a symbol for a floppy disk.

lol..I like it to, I think the whole update in General is a nice modernization<<<if thats a word...of the whole phone...
Quit whining about the theme, put on your big boy pants and theme your phone!
If you're unfamiliar with how to do this, I suggest you head over to the development and theming boards to grab some insight. Nottach has some brilliant themes he's ported that should remedy your hatred toward moto's UI.

Just switched to it myself and I rather like it,will take some getting used to but it seems alot more feature packed.
So what are your views on the new theme?
(if you don't know how to switch to it scroll to the bottom of a page and in the left corner you will see theme changer switch to 2013 beta)
I'm not fan of the 2010 or 2013 Beta - the XDA Classic suits me and I've been using it since the beginning. The new themes have a too "White" effect for my taste - while the Classic theme is plain and simple for browsing. Just my opinion...
I wonder how many people are using the new themes vs the classic one.
XDA 2013 Beta
I like the 2013 beta. Thanks for pointing it out. The Portal Posts on the right hand side is cool. They should scroll with the page though.
Also, browser resizing is causes some issues. There is a lot of left to right scrolling going on if I don't have my browser in full screen. All in all, a worthy upgrade to the visual styling of XDA.
I had to hit XDA Classic for a moment and whoa... I think I was just transported to 2006!
I didn't know this. Just switched the theme (on the bottom of each page). I like it because the FB, G+, YT-Icons are not wasting space.
And it looks great. Thanks for this hint.
Feels nice .. noticed it only after your post ..
Thanks for letting us know mate...
It is very nice and clean
I don't like the font it's too narrow and difficult to read
After using it for a while I am not to sure I like the grey on white... something is missing, but after all it is only a beta so we shall have to see how the theme develops!
I like it but feel that its somehow to cluttered. Maybe some work on the colour scheme would help correct this. Still really like it though
Thanks for pointing it out, havenĀ“t seen it yet.
What I like:
- Specs in the device "root" directory - just a nice addon!
- Portal posts on the right side - nice!
What I dislike:
- yellow buttons (e.g. "quote")...much too distracting color!
- my eyes are getting tired by the font
All in all: The "old" style is very effectice and clean...the beta seems to be too colorful & distracting for me

Yeah, the flat grey reminds me of something from the 90s, which is no bueno. I also think it's way to cluttered at the moment, and they should concentrate on making it easy to use and more streamlined.
But it's still beta, and clearly unfinished, so i guess we'll just have to wait and see.
I don't like it so I switched back to XDA 2010. The 2013 theme seems like it was made in the early 2000s, with its cluttered UI and white/grey tone.
I like the idea, it's very modern, but it's too white. It kind of hurts my eyes after all the years looking at the other design haha.
didn't know it was out.
Will try and let you know
I like it, except for the device picture and specs in the root directory.
It looks nice, but every time I go to the root directory to switch between subforums, I have to scroll down to go to the sub forum I want to read.
I would guess 99% of the people that frequent these forums know the specs of the device they are reading about.
Hell I use the original one...the newer ones are too bright for my eyes.

Not too bad but needs more definition
In general the theme is pretty good but as others have mentioned it is very white.
In my opinion the pale nature makes it more difficult to seperate between the various elements of the page. This in turn makes it more difficult for the eye to quickly find the information that it is looking for ie the contents of each post.
I also agree that the page becomes difficult to read after a while due to the combination of the colours and the font/fontsize.
Cheers Roy
Not really a fan of the sidebar. Apart from that, looks clean. 7/10, would use.

Thread closed
There is an existing thread for this discussion, this doesn't belong here.
So instead of hijacking the other Aviate thread that is mainly for being wanting to try it I decided to start this one. How does everyone feel about Aviate? How many are still using it? Any cool/nice features that some may not know about? Lets hear what you all think!
What I've learned from aviate is that apparently I'm a control freak. It's very hard for me to let the launcher make decisions for me. That being said, the idea is pretty amazing. I can see why there is so much excitement surrounding it.

I feel the same way. It's almost like being whipped by a significant other, it tells you what to like whether you do or not but yet you can't seem to pull yourself away. I'm intrigued.
It's restrictive and boring to me. I'm passing on it personally. I don't understand the hype. Android is about having options and being open, not closed lol.

I think the argument here would be that this is an option that wouldn't be available on other platforms because of Android being so open.

I lean more towards stock because I can control it more, but Aviate is pretty nice so far (after 1 day). I think I like it more than Themer themes because of the way Aviate organizes apps. Aviate is fairly customizable, with a dark and light theme. You can sort apps however you please, granted it will be in the bins that Aviate provides for you.
I haven't really used the Spaces feature much. I've just been forcing it to play by my rules. It seems like it suits minimalists like me, but I'll give it a few more days.
I run it on my G2 that I use for work (Yes, I have two G2's. I know I know lol), and I gotta say it really does help me there. I would like it to be more customizable though, and be able to set more specifically which screen should open when.
Having fast access to my meetings while I'm in the office is great. Getting the GPS with all my team-mates locations on when I'm out would be great, along with our collected GPS-tags. Then a more entertainment-oriented screen when I'm at home.
In short, I like the concept, but I would like to be able to change what content it presents more.
I like it. It's clean, quick, I don't worry about all the customization I've been obsessing over.
The current places, apparently from foursquare is entertaining.
If you want to change it you don't get it.
I love the cleanliness. One feature I would like is to turn the collections off And have home and apps. Even get rid of the letters etc so it's a bit more like launcher 7.
Sent from my LG-D802 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
It's very pretty - after messing around with it for about 15-20 minutes, i have the following short wishlist:
1) Would love to have the ability to set the homescreen photo to rotate.. but I guess I could do that with a widget.
2) I'd also love to see custom icon packs on this, would give it a much cleaner look.
Overall, I'm just not feeling the lack of customization. I've been using Action Launcher Pro for months now (HIGHLY recommend it), and this seems so stripped down in comparison.
Good idea but...
It looks nice, it's fluid and I like the idea of different workspaces depending on where you are and what you are doing.
But I stopped using it for a few reasons:
It keeps thinkin that I am at a bar because the office is located right above one. And at home, it thinks that I am at the library in the next building.
It left aligns all my icons which makes it difficult for me to reach them as I am right handed like 66% of the population.
I miss the double-tap functionality to turn off the phone.

To turn the phone off you double tap on the notification bar. This was almost a deal breaker for me as well until I saw someone mention this is the other thread.

It's easier for me to re-place the phone in my hand to push the power button than to reach the notification bar
But thanks for the tip. It's good to know in any case!
I seemed to have more battery drain with aviate. Pretty nice launcher though. Wish it was more customizable

Seeing some of the review videos on lollipop, including the Nexus 6 review, EVERYTHING is white on lollipop! The notification drop down, the background for all settings, and even the app drawer!
http://link.tapatalk.com/api/click?...rs.com&subid=cfcd208495d565ef66e7dff9f98764da
Besides being ugly as sin, that's going to be a significant drain on the battery! With the nexus 6 using an amoled display, why would they implement something so counterintuitive? One of the beauties of the moto x is how all the menus, app drawer etc look so elegant in black. On top of saving display energy usage.
I've searched everywhere looking to see if the theme would be customizable and there's nothing to suggest so. Comments?
I wouldn't worry about it. I don't think anyone spends a big amount of time in the notification area, drawer, or in the settings

There is an xposed module to convert white holo to dark, and probably it will convert white material to dark. On LCD white looks better but on AMOLED I prefer dark too
Afaik there will be dark theme for amoled.
I don't know where I read it but I read it somewhere. A few weeks ago.

Well it doesn't take an engineer to know a light background that requires an amoled screen to display uses more energy than a dark one where the pixels shut off. But that's that I suppose..
I'm running the latest preview on my N5. Yeah, it's white. Battery life? Much improved. Surprisingly so. I've no doubt the improvement in battery life will carry over to the X. I know there isn't a whole lot of room for improvement in performance on the X but it has made a startlingly difference on my N5. Sucks your not a fan of the design but for those of us that like it, it's an amazing upgrade. One I can't wait to experience on my X.
Edit: I understand your concern that the difference in display technologies will make the improvement in battery life mute but I can't imagine white backgrounds making that big a difference.

I'm not. Do I spend two hours or more in the notification shade at one time? no. do i spend 2 hours or more just in the settings? no. do i spend 2 hours or more on the google launcher app drawer? no. people need to relax, it won't be THAT bad. i am sure many of us are in apps that are light in color
edit: there are other factors that decrease battery life. i doubt you're constantly on a white screen for long periods of time. even with it being white, i am still sure amoled consumes less than lcd

i am all for opinions, but the OS being white shouldn't "freak" everyone out if you have AMOLED screens. i interpreted your first post wrong and thought you were very upset to the point where you'll rage , hence why i said some need to relax a bit. i still stand by my opinion that i don't think battery is going to go down the drain. remember Project Volta, maybe that'll help a bit too. good discussion :good:

The battery aspect is secondary to me. It just seems counter intuitive to make a nexus device with an amoled screen and widdle down one of the big benefits of it.
My main concern is IMO its ugly as all hell. Material design looks fantastic. But the white folder type backgrounds reallyblook out of place and dated. Of course others may love it. I just hope/wish they give an option for a dark theme..

i am on the fence with it. i agree, white isn't a good color, but idk if black would be a matching color for the home screen. heck, why doesn't Google just allow us to change the background app drawer page to whatever color we want. problem solved . looks like i will just have to endure the white (at least it isn't completely hideous lol)

Exactly. I think by this iteration of android we should be able to have a color theme choice. Or an inversion mode to black out whites.
