Personal reflexions about Samsung and this forum - Galaxy S III General

Hi!
I came first at imate jam times (mean HTC Magician). Have enjoy here a lot and, figuratively, this XDA world has been my second home for more than six year.
Before, I have been at doom's 9 (a DVD decryption and edition forum). And even before in Peque's Worlds (a Spanish Secam and Nagra decryption forum).
I use to write Access VBA for my own since more than 20 years and remember the times when I connect to a BBS with a 28 kbs modem. So, nearly sure, I’m older than most of the people here.
In real life I'm lawyer and use my smartphone for work everyday.
My last device (HTC HD2 running WinMo) pass away last summer (to be franc it is at the 'doctor' to get a new screen) and when I ordered my SIII, I was really afraid of so many changes coming.
Finally, English is not my mother language. I have, mostly, learned to read and write it here.
All that introduction is my small presentation in this SIII forum (not my first post). A way to justify why I dare to open a new thread and, finally, a pray for a little condescendence with my personal and not natively writed opinion.
After three months here, going to the subject, I'm slowly learning to use this new toy. Still far from providing something evaluable, but beginning to understand this new ecosystem with the help of a handful of masters that are teaching here for nothing.
I’m grateful to all of them and to XDA forums in general, but on the other side I’m also feeling that particularly this SIII area is a little missed, being feed by Samsung without order nor proposal and a little clutered by no sense.
Do we really need so many leaks and roms for our devices? Do we really need to lose time asking each other if UK leak should be first or not? Or, as an advanced user’s community, shouldn't we better be asking Samsung firmly to solve all the problems we find and to push fixes to our devices without waiting new local otas or leaks.
In general we have a very good device. Hardware is incredible. Android is a wonderful open source project. And Touchwiz a very nice interface made by Samsung for us.
But touchwiz is also the reason why many people bought a Samsung phone and mandatory interface for a lot of functions, and definitively it has some glitches very difficult to understand.
Should we really be changing manually firmwares to get a colour to our likes?
Don’t we deserve a proper skining system, to decide the colour of our notification bar or to change the switches we has in it, with just a menu option?
Do we deserve a final fix for lags, the battery gripes lot of people has suffer without an explanation or the poor dialer we get?
Shouldn’t Samsung forget that way of feeding us and begin to work to solve immediately the problems we find and to send us and maintain daily updated a software that at least do right the few things it should do out of the box.
Come on Sammy, you have make wonderful things for this device (prediction in Keyboard is incredible, battery life is most of the time incredible, interactivity in touchwiz is very well constructed...) but you are also kidding us and being dumb to the voice of the people that at the end could tell you what the user need...
Don’t know if it will be for god or not, but for me threads asking for solutions, like the one claiming Exynos sources, are the ones who should be pinned and treads like “Increase your battery life up to 500% (All android phones)” or the one discussing which should be the leaks order, must be immediately closed and forget. Personally I feel that only this way XDA’s SIII forum will has the chance to do the things forums has made for advance and knowledge I other areas.
To conclude and focusing, shouldn’t we refuse to act like a laboratory mouse and drive to more constructive ways, with clear petitions to Sammy internal developers?
Thats all.
Please, forgive me if this sound a little stupid ....or should go to and specific threat

spoke too soon i guess the terminology, u got a fully fledged working liberated rom for gps, and its a good edition, we have to continue to talk even if no result appears so we can show the honored developers that we are still egger for what ever they are finding so they continue to develope, otherwise they will think theretime is just lost for bunsh of ghosts, if you look at my post onto ways of using ur shift so u can make it more intersting untill that time where u its completly unlocked, i think september is going to be the best month for shift full of good news and following to that xmass time where the big bomb phone being enabled am not ofcourse basing this on any finding nor i have contacted Nostradamos lately , its how i wish things to go
(1) And what did you contribute?

[2] Do you have better ideas to help this out?
I do not contribute, since I do not know anything of programming, but at least, read and support the work of many, many people, which do it for free. However, one of the things I will never do is demand anything here, only wait patiently.
Since I bought my Tytn two years ago, one of the reasons I bought the Shift (and very soon the Diamond) was the existence of "xda-developers" and the people which is in here.
Please, be more sensible to all of us: read the forum if you like, take and use the software which suits to you, but never, never demand anything here. The only thing you can do is to be grateful to all those unknown people which make possible the existence of this site.

i agree 100% with you am a user of windows based mobile since 2003 and i still use it because of this forum, it always made any phone i buy worth 4 or 5 times more than its reall value, even the shift now if it coasts 1400
i would say my return value is like that
600 for vista laptop side
300 for winmo side
the remainder is what this site will give me and guess what after 1 year from today the value will be another 900 dollars which is more than the original value where you have bought this phone at

Firstly, take your caps lock off, it means youre shouting!
Secondly, I have owned a Shift since the day it was released in the UK. these forums have been invaluable to me personally. Using the forums I have: -
Liberated my Shift
Dual Booting my shift with XP
Solved a Wi-fi problem
Taken advice on the dissapearing SD card issues
And will be trying the new ROM
How can you possibly say its a waste of time. Its comments like yours (which are obviously written in anger) that really annoy me. I am not a programmer so I cannot assist with ROMs etc, but I check this forum everyday and I am thankful the guys/gals at XDA-Developers keep this site up and running for FREE for the likes of you and me.
I suggest you get off your high horse and apologise. If it wasnt for the likes of Cmonex, Prof and Febelus (who worked so hard finding XP drivers) sites like XDA-Developers would not exist, then we'd all have to work a lot harder to make our devices more usuable.

If you dont submit anything and only like to take you have no right to say anything .
I dont know how to program and therefore Iam very happy with this site it helps me a lot there is a answer here for most problems and there are people here dedicating a lot of there spare time to help us and I suppose themself out . we should salute them not attack them .
There is ofcourse a better solution please stay of this site or keep silent.
Agree with everyone's comments - firstly, please respect the work that has already taken place...it is not insiginificant as you would have us all think. Secondly, liek me you propbably cannot contribute to code work, but you CAN contribute support by discussing experiences no matter how small.
Communities are about sharing, not sitting back waiting for those doing the work to deliver rewards at your feet...wake up...
I guess the most obvious statement would be :
" When you bought the Shift, didnt you know about all its limitations
or do you just want to mooch of contributions to this forum? "
i am so tired of people who buy their devices, expecting the members
of this forum to turn them in to marbels of technology.
I bought the shift because I thought it would be useful for me, and it is.
Any modification, hint or advice from the people here and any contribution
i can make, are god given.
Thank you all for the hard work guys and girls...

You are right. I come here regularly, so that I could learn something and make my devices for better usage by extending and expanding their capabilities. This forum is more educative than anything else. Sometimes you have to wait for a better result. This is not a paid forum or support. Everyone here is putting their free cycles and making these devices more powerful and useful. the more you wait, the more you learn. Majority of times it takes a lot of time, because it is step by step advancement not a single day work, because most of us have to learn and understand device architecture and remove barriers; even a human's birth takes well more than 9 months and patience. There will be people like pcAngel, who would want everything right immediately, well then, they should not buy Shift.
Thank you very much to everyone, who is contributing to make our devices powerful.
My 2 cents

I find myself as a long time lurker needing to come out from under my rock and finally comment about this quite stereotypical noob troll. From his utterly 733tspeak, caps lock pounding, noob troll bleat we can determine that he most likely is the quintessential internet tough guy that can not afford one of these devices unless he steals it. I am in awe the moron here can find something on the internet other then 2girls1cup and his hand on his snake. That being said, after powering through his 12 year old fresh on a post board rant, I am still lost as to what if anything this troll wants to express other then the " I am entitled to it because I [email protected]#$ing say so" post of the ignorant. That being said I am curious, junior, whether your 12 year old idiot ass, understands what goes into reverse engineering a device ROM and then building a custom built ROM? Please let us know so we can add you to the project.
Jackass...
Well..........
I agree with saiweb, worldpcdude and aquasesh....
What if anything has pcangel contributed? You show your complete ignorance of the device by basically missing the point of XDA altogether...
The likes of pof / thaihugo / cmonex etc that have made invaluable progress for us all in regards to the shift's functionality should be respected and appreciated...
Yes many of us would like things faster but if you can't add to the collective through your own abilities at least have the common courtesy of not showing you complete lack of intelligence by your ill advised, impolite initial post...
If you have nothing constructive to say, spare US ALL (yes I shouted that) your indignant rant and just say NOTHING AT ALL...
Any basic research into the shift would have provided you an understanding of what it would do and where it's shortcomings were and many of us bought a shift (I was one of the first in the UK to have one) with this acceptance...
XDA has shown over many years they are masters at making a device do what it was never designed to / intended to do, and we have all been the better for it.... We need more people like the XDA developers and LESS PEOPLE LIKE YOU...

Someone please inform this fellow that XDA Developers is not a government department. Deep down I have a feeling that the guy never meant what was stated. My gut feeling is that his is bad case of a stale joke. So let us all laugh off the joke and live happily ever after......
I hate cowards. The fellow started this thread and vanished. If he/she/it is serious about the nasty comments why not post a response in defence of his position. He is the type that start bar brawls and quietly slip out while jaws are being broken.
Most of us bought our Shifts with full knowledge of its limitations. We all know the hardware is fantastic but the problem is the supplied software. Its like hTC merely built for us a very nice house but supplied crap furniture. And someone is working on the best formula to get us the perfect furniture for our beautiful house. Can anybody in their right mind start abusing the person who is working on a formula to supply the furniture for free??????
I bet this guy has never made similar rants against hTC. Yet he has the audacity to insult the guys who are working to make the Shift the device that we all yearn for. Methinks the fellow should be bumped off the forum!

The best roms............. coming soon

I have read many posts where people are asking which is the best rom for my device (and have done myself) only to get abrupt replies with something like "how dare you ask this, chefs put a lot of effort into each rom and its down to personal preferance blah blah" ................"THREAD CLOSED"
Does every one think think this is the best way for xda to be run or is there other people that think this should be allowed to be debated? I know this is originally a developer forum, however I would hazard a guess that there is now more public users that devolpers.
The thing is developers develope roms and yes certainly they put a lot of time and effort into it and are respected rightly so for it. however can the end user really be expected not to be allowed to discuss these roms on the forum only to be told the above mensioned things. It happens time and again over and over. People like myself (the end user) do not have time to flash every rom to find the ones they like. (its a days setting up for myself after a flash) and if its crap (which there is no denying. some are) its a day wasted.
What I think the forum needs is a "ROM USER REVIEW" section where people like myself can go and rate a rom for other users referance.
Surely this is the key to better roms. If one developers rom is poor hes going to be able to see that its poor and will/might take the user rating / comments on board and the next time try harder.... ultimately producing a better rom.
Competition is what makes better products, If handset manufacturers took the same stance as xda we would be waiting for the realease of the o2 xda 2s later this year. and this is the same in all industries.
Totally agree, people that make good ROMs should be applauded by some kind of user rating system. same way people can avoid wasting time flashing not so good or buggy ones.

I think the mods should close this thread too. If you don't have enough time to flash them all then take a look at what the chefs have on the menu then take a plunge based on what you think will be good for you.
The best ROMs are combination of various things to various people. I like my ROMs light and fully loaded, I like them fast, stable and I want the maximum internal storage. So how are you going to define this best ROM for me or others? There some great ROMs out there that do not fit my bill but it does not mean there are not among the best ROMs (again my view will be different than yours).
Now the warning about how there are more users then they are chefs is nothing new to developers. If they were not more users then developers, we would not need developers because you would not have the demand. That is simple economics.
To the end if you are not going to try all the ROMs and provide your opinion base on your publicly define logic of what is the best, then this will be another useless thread. This is exactly what others have done by providing benchmarks which are useful if you are into benchmarks. However, I do use the benchmark information to get numbers I am interested in (like internal storage, memory, etc...).
This is not meant to kill your inspiration but your opening comments killed the entire thread for me even though it is only one post thus far. A little bit more friendly tone could have gone a long way. Either way I am not looking for a response to my comments that way we will see how this thread shapes up.
Well here we go again. There is no answer to which rom is the best. Its your choice.
Maybe you simply love a Ford car, but well others might hate a Ford car and choose a BMW instead. Its all up to personal experience. You use one rom in one way, and maybe that rom works better that way. Then some other dude will find that rom crap because he uses it in a whole other way. Maybe he wants to use his phone for navigation and calling, so he likes the rom a lot as it does what he wants it to, but you might complain that it is a crap rom because there are some sms bugs. The other user dosn't use sms writing so he dosn't recognize these bugs. This is only an example, but i hope you get my point
All discussion to a rom should be within the specific roms own thread.
i don't watch movies, buy stuff, listen to movies, etc because of their ratings given by others. so i pass on this
umhhh. i started a similar thread i had named ,'So who is the Master chef?'.it was harshly closed. never understood why.....
everyone loves his rom and his chef..can't really have an objective and representative rating system...
I know and undrstand where you are coming from...too many roms and one cannot choose...
with that said...if there WOULD BE a clear cut winning rom...then everybody would flash just that and the rest of the cook can retire...this way every cook has his "followers" and thus we have this large amount of roms and they all get updated and improved over time...
those like me and you that do not have the time...well then they cannot afford to flash too many roms...its that simple...if you are expecting someone to offer you a new best rom every day and then you just come home and flash it every night...well that service won't be happening...
and yes I believe we have 1000s of leechers and only a dozen cooks. xda developers is by far not just a developing community anymore...but then again we could be considered "beta testers".
I closed this thread, due to the same reason all the others that are similar all over xda are closed on sight.
These kind of threads usualy/always ends up in disputes and flamewars, there is always some hotheaded ppl who burst into flames when someone dont have the same view as they do.
So... sorry, yeah we close

Does the galaxy tab have...

Does this forum have a sleepless ninja?
Let me explain: I am currently looking to buy a tablet for college and I am looking to get the most out of my tablet for my studies, for enjoyment and for understanding in this technological realm. Now, to me it is between the Xoom and the Galaxy Tab 10.1, and all signs point to the tab. Better screen, lighter, thinner, newer, faster etc. etc. (even the disadvantages, HDMI/USB/SD Card don't bother me as I don't really use any of that) But the Xoom has that one intangible, sleepless ninja. He shows xoom owners how to do this, how to do that and I just think the advantage of having a walk through is so high on my list that it might out weight a lot of the advantages the Tab has. Its this guy that is keeping me drawn to the Xoom, so I ask you either A) Does this forum/ community have a dedicated man like this? or B) Does anyone know if one is coming or if I did decide to get a tab would one be liked?
Yes it is a noob-friendly thing but, we were all noobs once right?
At the moment the GT10.1 is running stock version of Honeycomb, stock being the "pure" OS form no 2nd company has added anything or altered the software, this is important to know. This being said the stock version does not have "guides" or a "sleepless ninja", it will however guide you through the initial process of signing in to your accounts like Google or push email accounts.
With this being addressed Samsung does have a "layer" that goes over the "stock" Android OS and this is called Touchwiz. Samsung has not implemented this yet for their own reasons but has recently announced that it is coming "soon" as a download update. This Touchwiz may have your "secret ninjas". Touchwiz being their own creation may have "ninjas" to help explain and show all the new "bells" and "whistles" and abilities that Touchwiz will be able to do. Unfortunately like I said before Samsung has announced that is will be coming soon so till then it is the stock non "ninja" OS.
On a personal note I find the stock Honeycomb Android very intuitive and practical.( so much so that I cannot wait for the Touchwiz version ) Also I find the exploration to be half the fun Also there are TONS of websites that help you discover anything you need to know about Android on the webz and of course here in XDA. Although many do get a bit .....annoyed....some times with repeat questions someone will most usually scrape some patience and help you out, I will say to use the search option most generously though I have had my GT10.1 for over a week now and love it I am by no means a wiz but thanks to many here I am "Sleepless Ninja" free! Good luck with your choice and have fun learning.

I do agree that the search feature needs to be used and I did. Now, I thank you for your response BUT if you had read my post you might have seen the link to sleepless ninjas website. Sleepless Ninja is a real physical person, sleeplessninja.com. The Xoom doesn't have a "sleepless ninja" embedded either, what it has is a man dedicated to trying to help out the community, with tutorials, video how-tos and so on. I was wondering if the Tab community has that same type of person or group of people who go out of their way to help the community. I am a visual learner and so videos are something I enjoy seeing as I think they help. If this is what someone here has I would love to see it.

Hahaha its very early in NY. I ABSOLUTELY missed that. I did root my GT10.1 through XDA but it was through here

I used odin to root and I am able to odin back to stock. No video that I know of yet, sorry. I am an idiot. If I come across what you are looking for (now that I know) I will post here. Good luck and sorry I wasted your time
Not yet but I vote you! Get crackin!

I don't really see the point of this "real physical person" online. We have tons of threads dedicated to helping newbie and seriously though, most of what's applied to the XOOM will also work on the Tab as they both run stock-enough HC.
But if you can't be bothered to do a little googling/searching, maybe the XOOM and sleeplessninja are best for you.

More than anything else it is the videos that I like. I remember and understand things when I see them performed and videos to me give me that edge to be confident and know enough about what I am doing to actually jump for it.
Now,that being said the preponderance of threads, guides, walkthtoughs and the like here leaves little to be desired but curiosity did get me and, for the most part, the helpful nature of the people in this forum has shined through.

If you're buying a tab based on the degree of handholding available, the iPad is the best bet currently. Ideology aside, it has the best ecosystem, the best stable of apps, and the best peer-support, if based on size of userbase alone.
I understand, though, that ideology, or at least philosophical outlook, is pretty important. It's why XDA exists, after all, else we'd all be nibbling at S. Job's toes by now.
Then, on the issue of "durability" of peer support, none of the current Android (or RIM, or TouchPad) is a good buy. Reason is that part of the first wave of 'droid tabs have yet to show. And after that, there'll be yet a second wave of tabs before the year is out (hopefully outfitted with ICS). In short, there will be a deluge of tabs, each of which will have its little pool of users, and all of which will have very short lives. Does not bode well for that elusive "Sleepless Ninja" to pop into existence.
These, as compared to one big homogenous iPad collective. If your field is statistics, there's no contest.
But perhaps you favor fictional literature, where we can be the few Merry Men against the iHorde innumerable. Oops, getting my 'phores mixed with my phives here.. Anyway, there is an advantage to be a big frog in a small pond. Indeed, it can be YOU in that most epic '84 Apple commercial, taking a mighty swing against the faceless collective!
Yes, I hear you say, "Let me be the one, the Sleepless Ninja, the Hammer of Justice!" And I say, go forth, and make your mark! And we all say, yay, for our Sleepless Ninja is nigh!
Cheers for the OP, our new Sleepless Ninja! Here's a Thank to get you on your way. Now, get the hell to work, and let me know pronto when that custom ROM is done!
NO SLACKIN!

Let's support people in learning.

Guys, recent developments in the Dev forums are driving away young developers. Sure, currently, they might not be able to do much more than cook a rom, but I've used a few of those roms and for months they were a good alternative to miui. Everyone needs to start somewhere.
Sure, mistakes were made in giving props, and maybe they don't quite understand what xda fundamentally is just yet, but to start bashing them once we realized that some other developer on a different forum was able to deliver a solid cm12.1 build was rather distasteful. I would have liked for us to nurture this guy who has clearly spent a lot of time on rom development already, and could have potentially make great contributions in the future.
My 2c.

+1, I agree... I understand the perspective of both sides, but too bad it could not have been worked out privately instead of publicly bashing each other.
I agree it is best to build not destroy
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I also found it very childish the sort of tactics you would expect from big companies like Apple.
If it was a cooked rom with some tweaks for whatever then what is the problem just get the person to state this and people can choose if they want to use it or not.
Just noticed the guy we are talking about has had to make his own board private now with people going over there and moaning.
I don't want to just be a "me too" on this topic, so I will add another point. I do cook ROMs myself occasionally, to make them what I would prefer them to be from the start. I have often wondered whether I should share my "work". Yes, it is work, and it takes a lot of time that one could spend doing gainfully something else, and it is risky, because I have bricked my devices many times in the process of cooking ROMs. I have shared some of my "work" in the past, but, given what has just transpired here, I think I will keep my work to myself in future. Even though some may benefit from it, life is too short to be taking online abuse.
Lesson learned. You can bashing whoever you want if you 'smart enough' or 'serious dev fanboy'.
Keep Bashinnggg... Yeaaay..
I agree. Now we have no dev / cooker / what the f$&% you want anymore on xda. That's only because some users think always bad instead of motivate young 'ROM workers'.
So now this very stupid people are invited to open a new thread to index original developers works, as we don't know Chinese in order to get a fuc++ng ROM from chinese web sites.
And, please, stop to be so strong with other people... Life won't be always easy as it is behind of a screen.
I'm not up to speed about what's happening around here, but looking at the dev section, I understand who the "dev" in question is. But what exactly happened?
Edit: never mind, found it.

NEVER BUY A HONOR PHONE - heres why.

In the beginning I would like to present you my device and experience with Huawei, I am a smartphone geek and I had many devices in my life, and the most sentimental hate I have about is Huawei, I bought my favorite Honor 7, 2-3 months after it was released, Huawei was something new for me because in those days the "flagship" Hisilicon kirin 935 in 2015-16 was cool and new, not to mention fast charging, ar blaster (remote control), 20 Mpix camera with HDR and slow-motion recording at 60fps, revolutionary thermal construction, "Hey Honor" head control, audio + Hi-Fi, several annual updates of new functions and Android from version 5.0-6.0 until ... until the moment Huawei shoves its "sales system" of new devices, in previous device brands in which I sat I had an impression that my device is "on time" but in Huawei is quite the opposite and here it gets worse. Users of Honor 7 know that the last update of Honor 7 was in November 2017. (version B396). In brief, I will tell you one thing: Huawei gives a fu** about us, even if Ren Zhengfei is reading this, let him understand that we are awake. Every device that you release and is supported until the end of "materialistic" two years, put our Honors in the trash can which means that since the last update the device gets, youre phone starts to get boring and older which brings you to buy a new Huawei, but wait a minute, I just bought my honor 2 years ago and it's not good anymore? Naturally, we look at the internet why we do not get new upgrades where everything becomes clear the processors produced for Huawei are specially designed to work only for two years! Then Huawei tells us that you need a better version of Open Gl / CL and that the new EMUI will not go ble ble ble. And then we understand such a device with pseudo-strong peripherals it loses support after two years and spending hunderds of $ isnt worth it. So the question to Huawei is why you are making the same mistakes, why you are blocking the bootloader, and why EMUI is so limited, after all EMUI can compete with MIUI or Samsung Experience, just open up for people, update our devices more often so that they do not retire at the age of 2 years. It's all artificial. For now it is the silence before the storm because I hope that people who have reached to the end of this message will understand that people who purchased Honor 7,8,9,10 will be disappointed and how they will be treated after the warranty period and the end of Android support, where unfortunately the company counts money and not users.
Honor/ Huawei are only good for hardware, the software experience is not that good, plus their partnership with XDA was just a publicity stunt, I had thought that there would be more development for the Honor devices but it's just false promises, I would have never purchased Honor 8 if I knew that there won't be any ROM development for the device
LMFAO. Wow. You posted a whining session. Good for you. Hate to break it to you but Huawei is no different than any other company. Samsung, Apple, Sony. All the same. How about you go build your own smartphone so you can find something else to complain about. Claiming that Huawei specifically design their phones to only last two years. Are you daft?! Here's a little secret for you bud, the head of honor USA (his name's Chris) has been getting all kinds of responses from customers regarding the bootloader issue, but you wouldn't know that since you are so high up on your horse. So while you might think Huawei is some evil corporation designing a grand scheme to screw people, you couldn't be farther from the truth. People like you are exactly the reason XDA has gone downhill and it's sad.

I agree with you on this, everyone on xda whines but no one does anything about it. It is an open community and anyone can make a custom rom. It doesn't take much to make an aosp rom or even a custom EMUI rom. I just don't do it because people on here piss me off. They then go on a rant session like this like we owe them something. The community has lost respect for devs we make roms and they make us look like we own the software. They request things like I am free to do what you want me to do? NO I do it out of my own time that I have spare for everyone. But when I hear people get all cry baby mode and request stuff like they want it now it disheartens me from deving at all. This is why there is no development I just make my own rom the way I like it. At least I know no one will complain and moan after.

I guess there is the option to ignore all the nonsense posts, upload your rom with no support and let people decide.
Either that or perhaps share your build scripts with those of us with some knowledge of oneplus and xperia builds, so we can build our own honor rom too
No demands intended, just trying to blag some build scripts
That's because devs aren't transparent with the users. When you just pop up with some software, of course, the users will think it's easy and takes no time. Developers are pretentious and users are ignorant. Users would have less to whine about if they actually understood what was going on half the time...That's why everyone got all this tech, but no one understands how to use it and just revert to complaining. It's only gonna get worst for devs/users down the line.
But shid, where a guide to make a custom EMUI rom? I'll make a rom for the culture.

Learning to build a ROM isn't difficult. There are literally hundreds of courses you can take, but instead 99% of users are lazy and don't care to learn. Most developers AREN'T pretentious. They simply aren't required to teach others about what they do and how they do it. That's on the user.

How can you tell an average user that creating a rom isn't difficult? How can you determine how difficult something is to someone else? You just proved my point (considering you are a dev).....Cause that's pretentious. Sure you may be right...It's not my job as a developer to teach others how/what I do, but because development is treated as some easy to do thing we are here.
Once you understand something it's easier to appreciate it...User don't understand and if we keep giving them stuff with them understanding what they are getting you created spoiled users. I'm not saying go teach every user what a dev does, but transparency is important.

I say it's simple because my 11 year old can code. Learning is easy if you put in the effort. I myself, have been developing on Android since the Motorola Cliq. So, a little over 9 years. I've directed tons of people (even a few here on XDA) how to go about coding and each is now doing it on their own. It's not pretentious (that's not the right word anyway) to conclude that ANYONE can learn with dedication and time. So, say I build a ROM then go into details about what I've done. Who does that benefit if 96% of users have no clue? So then I have to go in depth and explain what's going on. That's a waste of my time which I donate. I don't get paid to work on Android. It's all for fun. When it becomes work, I stop. There is an amazing website called GitHub where most devs upload their work and you can see what they're doing. If there's something you don't understand, then you ask. You can not expect anyone to give you anything. Like I said, ANYONE can build a ROM. I thoroughly encourage you to dive into ROM building of that peaks your interest. Sadly, majority of users don't care to understand. They just want free things and immediately.

Transparency seems to work well enough with game developers. Like I said, seeing how something is made helps you appreciate it more. That doesn't mean a user needs to learn how to make a custom rom to appreciate the process, but we can agree to disagree on that note.
However, just because your 11 year old can develop (while awesome) doesn't make coding simple. I honestly hate when people make it seem like being a developer is just a simple and easy thing. Only a hobbyist or someone who lacks passion would make that claim. I mean I know kids who can write stories, but does that mean being an author is easy? I know kids who can draw well, but does that make being an artist easy?

Actually, it does. Writing a book means you're an author. Singing a song makes you a singer. These titles are often held to such a high standard that it makes no sense. If I draw a picture, I am an artist. I don't need a degree or even to have gone to an art school. Being a developer is easy. Those who view it otherwise are the ones that doubt themselves and aren't able to set realistic goals. Or again, they hold the titles to a ridiculous standard. XDA has offered courses for coding, and those are by far the simplest. Nothing is unattainable unless you yourself put that doubt in your mind.
Earlier, I wasn't stating that users need to learn to build ROMs to understand what's going on, so my apologies if it appeared that way. But if a user simply wants to learn the definitions of certain words, or what a process is then that user should on his/her own look it up or ask. It's genuinely that simple. While it may take time, everything is out there and available but again, nobody wants to put in the effort.
Game developers post changelogs. 99% of Android developer do the same. Fixed this bug where blah blah blah. Same thing. But believe me when I say that there are tons of things they don't post in the changelogs because they know users aren't going to understand it and well time is money.
Back onto the whole Huawei thing though. Yes, companies can always be more transparent. That's a given. But, they don't owe that to us. They owe us absolutely nothing. While personally I'd love more transparency, it's generally not that easy to do. Maybe it costs them too much to maintain all the devices, maybe they don't have a big enough dev team. IDK. But, to go straight to Huawei is screwing us over is well.. Moronic. When we as users boot our phones up we agree to their ToS before even using the phone for the first time. Hell, soon as you purchase the phone you agree to it. It's the same with every tech company. Ok, I feel like I wrote way too much. So, I guess this will conclude it for me. It was a nice change discussing things with you. You don't see that often on the internet unfortunately. Have a great day

"Easy" is subjective. Everything is "easy" with enough experience. It was difficult when I was starting, but I loved it so I kept going. I'm both a hobbyist and a professional."

I have to say that if Huawei phone gets regular updates for 2 years than good fo you. My last Android phone by HTC had one update after release and that’s all. Somebody wrote here that every brand is doing the same. It’s not true. My very old iPhone 5s just got a new system like any other newer iPhones. It will get normal updates until end of iOS 11 in September 2018. 5s was released in September 2013, so 5 years of constant updates... On the other hand will you be able to live with one phone for 5 years ?

Agraceful mentioned Apple. There is a really big deference in that regard between Android and other OS’s. Windows phone were also supported for a very long time. I think the cause of the problem that people do not care if they have newest google security updates, support is not good to advertise. What is or was good to advertise are the numbers. Screen size, pixel density, processor speed, aperture of the lens. Numbers are important but more important is software and developer support after you buy phone. Htc 10 had some minor flaws which were not polished at all because they did not care... Best phone with Android I had in that regard was Asus ZenFone 2. Asus did not update Android from 5 to 6 fo a very long time but 5 was polished with a constant updates, phone had a one or two month old security patches no older. I wonder how it looks in Huawei.

I don't get it. They now have to update to new security patches and we have been promised Oreo and they are already testing in China.

Lol, well perhaps more people could try harder to learn, but wild generalisations don't really help anyone.
If you have family and friends in the arts or engineering etc, none of them know what a ROM actually is, nevermind to actually build one.
You are assuming a level of computing understanding that is just not as wide as you appear to believe.
