Shadow THD Compatibility - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently updated my Nexus 7 to 4.1.2. I rooted it and reinstalled all my app. However, Shadowgun THD would not install despite using superuser temp unroot. The Play Store kept claiming my Nexus was incompatible. I had never experience this before nor did I find any1 with a similar experience. For people who experience this issue, this is due to any modifications done in the root directory or other folders requiring root. My issue came from installing AVAST Anti Theft. Once any traces were removed of having root access (In my case, I removed AVAST Anti Theft), you can simply use temp unroot option in superuser and I assume SuperSU. Hopefully, this helps anyone else having trouble.

And you posted this in development because?????

Are you running a different kernel? Any UI mods or Changes to navigation bar? I'm rooted 4.1.2 (stock) and just installed it with no problems.

Why harass someone for posting a question in the q&a section?

No I have the stock kernel. I had previously modded my build.prop file but I restore it when I flashed 4.1.2. The AVAST app has a feature for rooted device which installs the anti-theft portion in the root directory so that if it gets stolen a hard reset wouldn't prevent me from remotely locking and wiping the device. Once I uninstalled this portion, I had no problem installing Shadowgun THD. My theory is that if you modify anything in the root directory such the anti-theft portion of AVAST or even a simple build.prop mod, the play store would not allow you to install Shadowgun THD even if you select temp unroot.

[Q] For those of us that didn't update but made modification

I have a straightforward question but I haven't been able to piece together a complete answer from the various threads. I held out doing the AT&T update. In the meantime I have:
Rooted
Updated my stock Email apk to bypass security
Replaced my system.ui to get custom icons on the pull-down menu
Run xPosed Framework with APP settings (to adjust DPI) and Nottach's module.
Can't recall what else
I'm quite happy with everything but I wanted to get updated and prepare to install recovery and all other goodies that are to come with Loki. So, what is the best way for me to get up to date, keep root, and my mods so I can follow along with the progress that will be happening very fast now? Do I have to start over?
I'm sure others have this question also so I appreciate any feedback.

Go to the TWRP thread and do EXACTLY as they thread says to install the recovery, or use goo, it is there now. I was rooted on the MDB stock, and I had root after I installed the recovery. no issues. Did a successful backup, did get a error that required me to delete or rename the KNOX apk files. You will have to that also. Answering your question, I did some minor mods and they were still there perfectly.
Good luck sir.

Thanks for replying. I will go that route of it's best. What's the drawback of removing KNOX, if any? What about updating to MDL?

You have Knox??
AMDL updating instructions and information should be found in one of the links included in the "Root" sticky in the general forum or in the "motochopper" post in the Original Android development forum.

KNOX doesn't work yet, but the APKs are there and cause issues - I'd freeze in TiBu rather than deleting - threads are out there on what to freeze.
And I strongly recommend that you open up a note app and list what you did so you know what you might need to back out or re-do if needed. On the GS3 I have a notepad file with over 60 lines of things to do if I want to full wipe and put everything back JUST the way I had it (including hex codes for colors, ringtones, etc.).

Knox is in the system, but not implemented yet - they're aiming for July based on the last new release. But the hooks and APKs are still there.

Wow I never thought of that. That's very thorough of you.
@TheAxman or anyone that knows, I was able to use Goo manager and load TWRP. Made a backup too and rebooted without issue. Where would I run into the KNOX issue? I haven't had any issues.

Unroot Tronsmart MK908II or CX919

The Tronsmart MK908II and CX919 (Android 4.2.2) and similar devices from other manufacturers ship pre-rooted. Which is mostly fine, but some apps do not function. Methods to hide root work, but some apps still insist that the device is rooted, so refuse to work. So I want to fully unroot my device. Seems simple, but I haven't found any working solution. Anyone got an idea?
Never ran across an app like that. Which ones don't work?

You should just be able to delete the superuser or supersu app and reboot. Boom not rooted.
GNote3
There is no supersu or superuser app. Still Root Checker Basic says the device is rooted. So... how do we unroot?

I'm having exact the same problem with my tronsmart MK908 II.
I've tried installing other ROM's, but without any luck.
SuperSU and other unrooting apps just won't work on this device!
I'm IT specialist, so I really tried anything I could find, without any luck.
Does any one knows about a working unrooted ROM for this device? (Jelly Bean or KitKat)
Btw, one of the apps needing the device to be unrooted is 'Telenet Yelo' app.
It's a local app for watching tv here in Belgium.
Thank you for helping to find a solution!

Freeing Up Ram, newly rooted

Today, I finally rooted my droid x running Android 2.3.4, System 45.621.10 using framaroot. I have never rooted a phone but finally got tired of low ram of this phone lagging it up. Who does a newbie start to free up some ram?
All, I have done at this point is run framaroot, choose supersu and verified root access through root checker.
I've read about apps that let's you freeze, rename, or delete apps.
I came here for better instructions as I do not want to brick my phone. I'd prefer to do minimum tweaking if that's possible and achieve my objective.
Any instructions or advice would be greatly appreciated. Also, I do not use Verizon as a carrier any longer so removing their apps wouldn't be an issue.
I know you said that you wanted minimal tweaking, but this is definably the way to go in terms of performance and free ram. The newest build is located in the OP's three hostings
. Make sure to read everything in the OP and Happy Flashing!

[Q] rooted note 3 help!

I have a at&t note 3 model N900A and today when I took it to best buy to update to kitkat the kind gentlemen told me my phone was rooted. I looked for how to tell if the phone was rooted and someone poinred out this 'supersu' app wich I have in my phone. I need help on how to install kitkat or how to install ROMS and also what does the supersu app do? How do I use it? any help would be appriciated please be patient I am a beginer with this step by step would be appriciate it. I need to upgrade to kitkat need my gps to start working need it for work lol. I really want to be able to learn how to isntall roms and flash updates thank you.
For starters, this forum is for international Note3, you have separate at&t note 3 forum, search there as it will have specific rooting info for your model. If you pick up ROMS here you could brick your phone. Supersu is like a supervising program granting permission to access restricted areas and running in administrative mode. If any program requests privileged access, Supersu will ask you if it should grant it. Of course giving privileged root access to virus or some badly behaving program could be very bad idea. I guess you got phone from somebody else, since it's rooted and you don't know about it?
Actually there is a program in Play Store that can check if you have root or not, or you can try to access system files using ES file explorer and see if it works. I'm not sure if having Supersu by itself means you have root ATM, previous owner could have root and maybe he brought it back to stock unrooted leaving Supersu behind?
---------- Post added at 02:08 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:59 AM ----------
PS.
I would strongly suggest for you to do some serious reading in this forums and have full understanding of everything before installing custom ROMS etc. there is very good chance of bricking your device, not covered by warranty, by making even seemingly trivial mistake.
thank you I appriciate the help.

Negative Effects / Problems with Rooting Nexus 6P

Have ANY of you who rooted your Nexus 6P experienced any negative effects or problems in the months afterwards? Meaning slower speeds, response, battery draining faster, crashes, freezes, etc....? I am just trying to see if there is a pattern anywhere from those who are rooted. I am sure it cant be but it'll be for my own peace of mind if anything in the future if I am to keep this phone for another while.
I also know of many apps that CAN be used only after you root, but are there also things you can NOT do after you root that annoyed any of you?
No problems after rooting here. The 6P is way more responsive and battery friendly after root. The only crashes I ever got was caused by myself and easily fixed because of root. The only negative is the tail chase with safety net. As of right now though rooting with Magisk will pass safety net. There might be a few apps that Magisk can't hide from root but none that I use.
Is anyone else having trouble keeping root? I have the NRD90U and I rooted via Nexus toolkit and installed pure Nexus. I go to download SuperSU and it said it couldn't find root access. Did I do something wrong besides using the toolkit to root?
I'm having issues finding a Rom that works on my 8.1 nexus 6p. Every Rom I like and Install their is always a issue. I installed the DU 8.1 Rom and Gapps and vender and the Rom and vender did nice, but once I installed the 8.1 arm gapp it said their was a issue. I figured I didn't do the wipe which, I did all except internal storage. This time it was both vender and gapps. Any advice? Should I just forget the DU vender and flash the stock image back?

Did you use the Nexus toolkit? I experienced the same thing until I did the adb route.
