I have a at&t note 3 model N900A and today when I took it to best buy to update to kitkat the kind gentlemen told me my phone was rooted. I looked for how to tell if the phone was rooted and someone poinred out this 'supersu' app wich I have in my phone. I need help on how to install kitkat or how to install ROMS and also what does the supersu app do? How do I use it? any help would be appriciated please be patient I am a beginer with this step by step would be appriciate it. I need to upgrade to kitkat need my gps to start working need it for work lol. I really want to be able to learn how to isntall roms and flash updates thank you.
For starters, this forum is for international Note3, you have separate at&t note 3 forum, search there as it will have specific rooting info for your model. If you pick up ROMS here you could brick your phone. Supersu is like a supervising program granting permission to access restricted areas and running in administrative mode. If any program requests privileged access, Supersu will ask you if it should grant it. Of course giving privileged root access to virus or some badly behaving program could be very bad idea. I guess you got phone from somebody else, since it's rooted and you don't know about it?
Actually there is a program in Play Store that can check if you have root or not, or you can try to access system files using ES file explorer and see if it works. I'm not sure if having Supersu by itself means you have root ATM, previous owner could have root and maybe he brought it back to stock unrooted leaving Supersu behind?
---------- Post added at 02:08 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:59 AM ----------
PS.
I would strongly suggest for you to do some serious reading in this forums and have full understanding of everything before installing custom ROMS etc. there is very good chance of bricking your device, not covered by warranty, by making even seemingly trivial mistake.
thank you I appriciate the help.

hello, i have one week with my nexus im very happy with it but i would like to root it, to test other stuff on my nexus....
but im afraid that google can get mad..
will google detect if i install other "os" on my nexus
will i loose my warranty if i install other os or gain root access?
if i get root access or install another "os" or "rom"...can i reset my phone
and get it like i just bough it?
iis the official nexus 4 android 4.x image always stored on my nexus 4 so i can reset the device anytime i want?
i think i may want to reset it if i want to get rid of lots of stuff or if i regret of having root or other roms
and i want to keep receiving updates from google.
one night i almost dared to root it..with one click...but i want first to have these questions answered
is google aware about each device about being hacked, rooted and dont give support if install modded roms
or i just simple reset and no one knows if i hacked or not.?
sorry about my questions..or about my english..i hope you understand and try to answer my doubts.
Hi,
I just recently rooted my phone as well..
As far as I'm aware, there is no way Google can tell if you have rooted, modded, hacked your phone, unless you give it to them in that state. What is reassuring though is that you can reset your phone exactly like it was from the box. You can unroot your phone, lock the bootloader and many of the guys around here will have links to the stock image if you require it.
Toolkit vs OneClickRoot.com
I am reading up on rooting the nexus 4 and was thinking I would use the one click root function in the toolkit by mskip, but I have seen the website oneclickroot.com which says this: Remember: One Click Root is 100% guaranteed to work and the process is completely risk-free. It is currently in beta and will apparently be running properly in a couple of weeks.
Is this legit and is it really any safer than the toolkit??
I have to post 10 times in order to comment on a thread about a Kernel.

need to post 10 times, so I'll answer even though you probably are past this. I used the toolkit. I couldn't find anything 1-click for the nexus. Maybe I just missed it.
I have a straightforward question but I haven't been able to piece together a complete answer from the various threads. I held out doing the AT&T update. In the meantime I have:
Rooted
Updated my stock Email apk to bypass security
Replaced my system.ui to get custom icons on the pull-down menu
Run xPosed Framework with APP settings (to adjust DPI) and Nottach's module.
Can't recall what else
I'm quite happy with everything but I wanted to get updated and prepare to install recovery and all other goodies that are to come with Loki. So, what is the best way for me to get up to date, keep root, and my mods so I can follow along with the progress that will be happening very fast now? Do I have to start over?
I'm sure others have this question also so I appreciate any feedback.

Go to the TWRP thread and do EXACTLY as they thread says to install the recovery, or use goo, it is there now. I was rooted on the MDB stock, and I had root after I installed the recovery. no issues. Did a successful backup, did get a error that required me to delete or rename the KNOX apk files. You will have to that also. Answering your question, I did some minor mods and they were still there perfectly.
Good luck sir.

Thanks for replying. I will go that route of it's best. What's the drawback of removing KNOX, if any? What about updating to MDL?

KNOX doesn't work yet, but the APKs are there and cause issues - I'd freeze in TiBu rather than deleting - threads are out there on what to freeze.
And I strongly recommend that you open up a note app and list what you did so you know what you might need to back out or re-do if needed. On the GS3 I have a notepad file with over 60 lines of things to do if I want to full wipe and put everything back JUST the way I had it (including hex codes for colors, ringtones, etc.).

Knox is in the system, but not implemented yet - they're aiming for July based on the last new release. But the hooks and APKs are still there.

Wow I never thought of that. That's very thorough of you.
@TheAxman or anyone that knows, I was able to use Goo manager and load TWRP. Made a backup too and rebooted without issue. Where would I run into the KNOX issue? I haven't had any issues.
Just wondering if there is anything special to know about rooting etc on the G2. Or is it as simple as others? I have had MANY android phones from Xperias to Galaxy's, htcs and most recently the Nexus 4.
Is there a noob guide on here I can't find much but admittedly I'm on Tapatalk at the minute.
How do I unlock boot loader or even can I?
Can I just fastboot flash a custom recovery?
What is this root checking that voids warranty is it like Samsung yellow triangle?
Sorry if any of this is stupid but I've never had an LG.

first things first what model of g2 do you have/ are planning on getting(to recommend proper rooting method), anyways I recommend ioroot for rooting your device(easiest way and lots of support), second to unlock bootloader and flash roms/kernels without issues you need to loki your device or get a twrp/cwm with loki built in to it. As for flashing recovery the easiest is to use freegee from the play store and choose which recovery you would like to use, once rooted the root check is in download mode it will say if it's rooted or not but using lg flash tool and going to stock removes this and there aren't any stupid questions if I do say so myself. Hope this helps any thing else let us know

That does help thanks I've learnt to ignore the unhelpful and ignorant.
It is just the international version it should arrive tomorrow. So from what I understand I can follow any root and boot loader unlock guide that matches my version. And can fully return to stock with no traces or issues?

yea pretty much as long as you don't flash the wrong file everything will be smooth anyways this is the international thread(http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g2/development-d802) so you can sart planning what you want to do once it arrives and trust you gonna love it
also:
root- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48709232&postcount=869 (latest ioroot and drivers)
rooting instructions- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2448887
recovery twrp- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2449670 (I prefer twrp)
recovery cwm- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2468858 (just in case your not a fan of twrp)
(both recoveries include loki already)
As a last note if by any chance you want to try stock kitkat (you can try official without root by flashing http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2664933 through lg flash tool) or if you root first you can try(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2665985) although you will lose custom recovery and need to use the flash tool to jump down to stock jb and start again have fun :fingers-crossed:
Similar Situation but with Sprint
Hello, I'm kinda in the same situation. except the G2 is with Sprint.
First, i'd just like to say that i can root, twrp, custom with quite a few HTC and Samsung phones but have yet to tackle an LG. It's actually my girlfriends. I told her not to accept any updates when she recieved the phone today from the local Sprint Store. So as it stands she's completely stock to my knowledge. I've included pictures.
Since she's on Sprint and NOT International, i can only assume the guides that you posted to help our other friend will not help me(or at least to an extent). I'm definitely not opposed to reading and learning, just really unsure where to start as the G2 is only split on the carrier level at Development. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

the rooting works with the g2 as long as it's stock 4.2.2 and the recovery guide for twrp plus 2.6.3.3 from here(http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/g2spr) should work but I did see somewhere that an update to the sprint model added some spark thing(I don't know what it is exactly) that does not play too well with custom kernels
on another note the reason for it splitting on a carrier level is so that no one flashes something that isn't for them which would cause lots of unwanted problems but of course if you want a rom for your model you head over to the sprint thread look for the one you want and flash away, and always remember to have a backup it can save your phones life someday
---------- Post added at 11:11 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:04 PM ----------
also forgot to mention there are other methods of flashing recoveries from play store like freegee, goo manager, rom manager, etc but I did not include because I am not sure wether they include loki or not which is important if you wanna flash certain roms and mainly different kernels
Wow that's some great help and info there mate thanks for all the help! Seems like everything I need all in one place. Its out for delivery today so will hopefully be playing with it by this evening.
From what I can tell from a little reading there isn't a UK KitKat officially yet at the minute? Is there any I can manually flash with minimal to zero bloat? Just standard LG software?

Well like I mentioned before if you root first you can flash this(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2665985) if done correctly you keep root but will lose recovery because as of yet there isn't one and since its international bloat is minimal unlike when it's from an American carrier
Once you root, using freegee to install recovery is trivial and yes it includes Loki.
I used ioroot to root my G2 and I have no complaints, everything went through smoothly

Thanks a bunch! It seems as though this is going to be unexpectedly simple!
I highly doubt I'm going to be flashing anything other than a modified stock Rom for her. Stability, battery life, with no bugs is all I'm looking for as it's not my phone. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
Also, I get why they're split at the development level, it's just that running through the QA and General sections is a little tougher. I do so appreciate all the help and advice!

Replacing factory firmware!!!
Hello,
i Am newbie here, recently i brought a LG G2 D802 supposedly from a EU store and i am in Finland, but to my surprise the software firmware is Asia made, Hong Kong to be particular. it goes like this, D80210b-HKG-XX build JDQ39B kernel 3.4.0. With this original Stock software, the 4G option is not shown( i know it can be done by hidden menu but i want to get a permanent fix); the MMS setting althought i did it manually by inserting the values provided by the Network service provider.Still i am unable to get that fix.
I am in turn to contacting my seller for the correct working OPEN stock rom installed G2 but if the case does not go like that then i wish to root it to the OPEN international ROM . From what i have read, if you update then it goes back to the HKG rom, if there any way i can remove the factory rom with the OPEN Rom and receive the update OTA and it will not revert back. I have been doing my research on this but i am not able to get the answers... Hope some one will shine some light on this.
Thanks in Advance !!!
I just got my Note 4 and it's running stock N910PVPS4COK1. I'm unfamiliar with the ins and outs with this phone, coming from the S4 (Rooted, TRWP 2.8.7.0, BlissPop v4.03). I think I want to end up running the SAC23 Note 5 port with root access.
I want to do this right the first time, so I'm looking to get some advice from veterans in this area and steer clear of any problems / issues that I might encounter.
1. Is running the Note 5 port going to effect the ability to use Android Pay and/or Samsung Pay on this device if I head down this path?
2. Do I need to and should I, root and install TWRP first in order to flash the SAC23 Note 5 port? Or do I flash the port directly from Odin onto stock?
3. What is the best way to approach and what are the best versions / revisions I should be using? (Odin version, TWRP version, SuperSU version, SAC23 Note 5 port version)
4. In the SAC23 Note 5 Port thread there is mention of PMing for the latest version. Is v2.1 the latest or do I need to PM to get a later version?
Any advice through your direct experience with this phone and port would be greatly appreciated.

The threads for these subjects were started at a time when a different Baseband was being used and things change from where you start from. If u know anything about android you need a root your device for any custom rom, as far as the new version yes you need to ask for an invite to the hangout for the latest version which is not 2.1, i believe android pay does not allow a rooted device to use it so its tricky, Twrp in my experience is the best recovery

The N5 port automatically brings SU baked in, you need to be rooted so root first and odin a rooted stock base suck as OK1 which is latest make sure to update prl and profile before flashing the port n5

Thank you very much. Thats exactly what I wanted to know. I will odin Freeza stock OK1 kernel with root support for a systemless root and update the profile & PRL before flashing the Note 5 port.
I was not aware that a port & a custom ROM were the same, but it makes perfect sense.
Your excellent point about the PRL update sparks another question. I'm on Ring+ and had to tweak my APNs to get 3G and LTE to work on CM based ROMs for my S4.
Are there APN issues with the Note 5 port like are found with the CM based ROMs?

If I can could you redirect me to a resource to do this root tutorial.
I rooted mine using the Eng boot method short for engineering boot I believe. It is not true root and lots of people seem to have problems with lag and battery life. But I get through the day using my phone regularly throughout the day without a problem. I use lspeed on the battery profile and my battery lasts the day. Just search for eng boot method you will find it. I really haven't found any issues with this method of root for what I use root for. Mainly to get rid of unwanted apps and to change the boot animation from the stupid att one. You will need to have adb set up on computer. Let me know if you need any help.
Also there are no custom roms or custom recovery. I am using one of the unlocked variant roms on the att model phone without a problem.
The engineering boot root method is a real root method. You can do all the root related activities you want with it, such as altering the build.prop, TiBu, AFWall, etc. You just can't run a custom kernel or use a non-TouchWiz ROM.
Now, that said, the AT&T Nougat ROM starts you behind the 8-ball on lag, which the engineering kernel tends to exacerbate. I found my S7 Edge barely usable with rooted AT&T firmware. I couldn't reliably record video, the launcher would stutter all the time, etc. It was miserable, but I might have been one of the unlucky ones and gotten a marginal processor.
I would convert to the U firmware and root that. Unrooted stock U firmware is head and shoulders better than A in terms of lag and cruft, so it might be tolerable rooted.
