Hi guys,
I got some really annoying problems with my HD2 and can't find a solution for it.
My power button on the HD2 isn't working as intended.
If I power off the phone, I can boot it sometimes up using the power button, sometimes it doesn't respond to pressing it at all.
If I connect the phone to the computer or notebook it instantly powers up on it's own. same goes for the charger.
The strange thing is .. if the phone starts on its own (by being connected to the charger or computer) the power button is working flawlessly afterwards. Sometimes the button is working as intended, but suddenly stops working while trying to end a call or whatever.
I've currently installed Android on it .. I don't know if it's hardware or software related .... but it really drives me up the wall.
Maybe some of you are able to help me out
Best regards

Probably your END CALL/Power button is slowly dying(metaphorically speaking).
Being on Android(probably on Magldr) it's normal for your phone to start/boot up everytime is off and you plug it in(USB or charger).
IMO you should replace your hardware buttons flex or just leave it this way and avoid to use it.
Replacing it is not an easy job, I wouldn't recommend it to DIY unles you have a relevant experience on stuff like this or a very native skilled&lucky person!
Good luck!
thanks for the response.
I can't change the hardware buttons 'coz I already replaced the display and digitizer.
If I have to open the HD2 again the digitizer will separate from the display ....
too bad seems I have to bear with it
It's still hard to believe the power button is dying 'coz after the phone is automatically turned on by being plugged to a computer or the charger the button is working flawlessly.
and there are only a few seconds between it.
seems the phone has a problem recognizing the power on command if it's turned off

possible but still possible button board ...
Maybe worth trying other kernels & roms to rule out firmware issues ...
I'm trying a different battery now.
searched the internet and found someone with similar problems.
he fixed it by replacing the battery.
i'll give it a shot
edit: other battery doesn't change anything. I'll keep trying

Hi!
I have a QTek S200 that had it's speaker dead and the power button was stuck. The stuck power button means that no matter when or how I pressed it NOTHING HAPPENED but sometimes randomly (when I was nowhere near the button) an "Are you sure you want to shutdown?" dialog appeared like I had the button pressed.
I sent the phone to service and they changed the speaker and told me that the button requires a motherboard change and it costs somewhere around $500. That was obviously too much money so I told them to send it back like that.
My phone arrived and the power button was working perfectly (so far as I know they did nothing about it) for a few months. Then again the power button died and started behaving the same way (this time there was no problem with the speaker).
I'm using a custom ROM but I also tried with the original I backed up after I got the phone, but seems the problem is not in the software. Anyone has any idea what can cause this and if it's possible to fix it?

It's almost certainly hardware. If you feel like opening up your Prophet, you could check whether the power button is connected correctly...
$500 seems way too much given that it's possible to get a device for less than that!

The Touch Pro will be good!
You could possibly try removing the power button connections all together, and see if that rectifies the problem... So you wouldn't be able to turn it off, but there is software to do that!

This is a very good idea indeed! I only wonder what about the screen? I can't really remember if you can turn on your screen with the other keys when it's off (I used to open/close my SD card slot to bring the screen to life when I was stuck with the phone)?
You can change the lock settings for keys (so that other keys can wake up the device) in Start->Settings->System (tab) and the "Power" option (I think).

one thing i forgot to mention with this was that my batter usage was INSANE when the power button is in "stuck mode".. on idle the phone goes dead in cca 72 hours..
when it first came back with the fixed speaker (and button) the battery issue was gone.. but now the button is stuck again the power issue is back!

Maybe it misses being on and wants to be nice?
I have no ideas really...
wanted to install wp7 with a clean start...so tried to task29 (doloop) with 100% success and then my tmo hd2 wont go into bootscreen what ever i do...its stuck for ever in "stick together"...i know there is no os to load...but i dont understand y cant my hd2 go intobootloader
so far i tried
with holding volume down and power key with a single tap
with holding volume down and holding power key
with holding volume down, volume up and power key with a single tap
with holding volume down and reset button
with/without sim
with/without SD
with/without plug in wall charger
with/without plug to pc via usb cable
observations...when i pull out the battery and put it back in and then connect to computer when the phone is still off....the charging indicator LED glows in orange.
when in this mode if i switch the phone on with power/end key....it doent start...i have to pull the usb out, the orange LED still glows...and if i tap the power/end key nothing happenes...i have to pullout the battery to get it to start and eventually get stuck in "stick together"..
would really appriciate if any1 can help me get my hd2 into bootloader screen...
resolved the problem myself.....hd2 is working like a charm....thanks for all your support.
How did you fix it? For other users in this position.

SOLVED {bootloader dont loadArrow}
Here is what I did..
B4 that some background -
I used to heavily try different roms/mods and always played with android sd and nand versions…win 6.5X in multiple cooked version….
So my tmo-hd2 has been formatted/hard reseted/flashed many many times
By virtue of this….my screen died….slowly my screen touch responsiveness malfunctioned and eventually died… all hardware keys were working perfectly by the touch was dead….
During the process of screen malfunction to completely dead….made few observations to not things which might help fellow Hd2 owners…one thing is power/end key seems to be the culprit (this is my observation/belief).
Since I don’t live in US spend 100$ in changing the screen since then everything is working well…I still rig my hd2 like I always do…
Well when the wp7 was released, wanted to give a try…did this…hspl pkg 3 spl 2.08 hspl > then task 29 > and my hd2 didn’t get into bootloader at all…..i was doomed as there hd2 (after task29) didn’t hv os..
Searched for the solution everywhere and eventually nothing worked for me…I was about to give up…suddenly sometime struck my mind…wat if the power/end key is the problem….then things were positive..
I opened up my hd2 (unscrew and removed the back panel) and disconnected the connector flex rigid board (A board) of the hardware keypad from the mainboard….and pushed the battery in and pressed reset (sometime u need to plugin the usb cable to wall charged/pc to wake up the phone) and held volume down key and hopped for some miracle.
Viola saw the tricolor screen after eternity – since the back panel (not backcover) was open I help the battery to the pins and didn’t even move my fingers …run the stock rom installation and held the battery tight in place and waited to get the rom completed…the moment its 100% relaxed my fingers and reconnected the flexboard connector, re-assembled my phone and everything was back to normal…
ONE THING I LEARND FROM THIS…..HD2 IS A ROCKING PHONE AND U CAN RESURRECT IT WHATEVER HAPPENS TO IT (if at all some1 screws it with wrong radio…its officially bricked, but still it can be revived using RIFF JTAG method and rewrite boot data).
One final request pls DON’T GIVEUP ON YOUR DEVISE
Now I have wp7 running successfully and waiting for my activation code for live services

interesting, two confirmations in this thread, and there's another thread where 2/3 people successfully used this method.

yup...and the interesting thing is, i befriended an HTC engineer and got hold of multiple 'a-boards' at that time to test this out.the flex-board that reacts when we push the button.
there were multiple models/molds for HD2...may be different production lines..everything did the same job including the one which was shipped with the device..'a-board' wasnt the culprit here..the very design of having power + end call + device unlock in the same key/button is the issue.
so like...my phone cant turn on at all..no lights..no response..it's like practically dead..im sure the battery is fully charged...but the phone isn't working at all..i don't know what to do..i did everything possible to reset it and everything..i've done everything i can to it..and kept myself from throwing it across my room..so...anyone have any idea of what happened to my phone?..or what i can do to fix it..?
/cry
What operating system (WM/Android/WP7)/bootloader (magldr/clk) do you have insralled?
Did it work before and suddenly now it won't, or did it never boot up since you got it?
Did you do something like trying to flash a rom, install HSPL or an android bootloader, or is the phone stock WM?
Does it vibrate or anything when you try to boot up, or just no response at all?
Check your battery pins where the phone connects to the battery, maybe one of them is bent and not contacting the battery properly.

uhm...what..? *cough*..it's..a windows phone..i bought it when it first came out..and it works ok..for awhile i suppose...erm..im not a techie geek...so..you lost you after the first question...and it doesn't vibrate or anything anymore..it's as if..it's like a stone..no lights or anything..if i plug it in onto my computer it makes funny noises..and it's like the computer doesnt know i have it plugged in..and if i unplug it..it makes that weird noise computers make when you unplug something...so..i get like no responses from it..nothing..no lights..no sound..nothing (the battery was at 95% charged before it stopped working)
it all happened when...
my phone kept freezing on me every time i get a text (not a text friendly phone is it?)..and i would always just carefully take out the battery n reset my phone..only this time..in the process of it..it just wont reset or turn on anymore.. =[...ooh and there's no physical damage to the phone..all perfectly in mint condition complete with phone covers..screen protectors..and the sticky plastic stuff it came with...
Were you pulling battery to reset phone rather than use reset button next to battery ?
If you have been pulling battery in & out rather a lot checking battery pins as mentioned above would be a good idea.
In the hands of a non "techie geek" these devices are nothing but a problem ...
sms issue sounds like you needed a better ROM installed or perhaps mainboard fault that has esculated !

could be faulty hardware as reasonbly common but most of your running issues such as freezing on sms sounds like newer or custom ROM flash was needed.
Be 100% sure all flexible pins seem to protrude enough & spaced correctly to contact battery terminals & all are clean.
Couple of questions & things to try>
when plugged to charger does red LED show ?
Does it go to bootloader when you;
While phone is Off - Hold Volume down & press power button (keeping volume down pressed all the time) use reset button to exit bootloader screen
Have you tried hard reseting it !
While phone is on:
Hold Volume up + Volume down & press Reset button
While phone is Off
Hold Volume up + Volume down & press power button

Looks like a hardware issue, and to fix that you'll probably need to change the physical button.
To power the phone on, just connect it to the charger, it will start.
I too have the same problem, just started around this thread's start date too.
Oh yeah, and connecting it to the charger doesn't work, and the only way I can get any life out of it is to pop the battery out, put it back in, but even then it only goes to the "SAMSUNG" logo screen and then blacks out again.
I feel like it may be the power button itself, because I managed to turn it on when I pressed the button fairly hard, so maybe the button is pressed in and stuck to some extent?

Hi guys.
My Galaxy Note 3 power button has just completely stopped working. Is there a setting that turns off the power button functionality that I might have accidentally pressed?
Cheers.
Edit: I should elaborate here. The phone is switched on, everything works as normal but no matter how many times I try it, the power button just not do anything (holding it down, pressing different areas)

Did you try a battery reset? With the phone off, can you get into either Download or Recovery mode? That would eliminate the possibility of an OS issue.

Just send it back and get it replaced.
Just send it for replacement. There's a reason phones come with a warranty that covers manufacturer defects. Whining about it to strangers in the forum is not going to fix it for you.

My power button is not working to turn the screen off. Long press works to bring up the power down menu or to do a hard shut down. It works to turn back on though. Seems to happen after I plug it into the wall charger. Restoring a nandroid backup fixes the issue.
Not sure if it's related but my PC's USB crashed after trying to plug the phone in and use USB 3.0 to transfer files. I had to refresh my W8 PC to get the USB working again.
I have the Sprint version, rooted and running JellyBomb.

I have the same problem. my power button is done for. whenever i need to start it. I plug it in and go into recovery and reboot from there. I also use this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.plexnor.gravityscreenoffpro&hl=en for screen timeout and lock. And you can also get exposed and gravity box and there is a status bar tweak to double tap the status bar to lock screen (put phone to sleep).
I tried everything then found the solution on another website
My note 3 has been with me for almost 2 years now and it's power button stopped working about 2-3 months ago. Until now I avoided draining the battery below 2% and was fine but just today I dropped my phone and it shut down. I knew that my power button didn't work because of hardware problems so a soft reset didn't work for me. What I found however is that if your power button is dead you can just very quickly remove and re-insert your battery and your samsung device (I have no idea if this works on other brands) automatically boots itself. I'll give the link too incase I wasn't clear enough and I hope this helps people who shared my worries.
