Hello all,
I'v been reading this forum for a long time, now i had to register in order to make this question regarding the problem i have with my Defy+ and the CM10 quarx 20120924.
Lately my mobile data connection is not working. I checked the configuration, rebooted, removed the battery but nothing happend. I turn on the mobile data but still dont have any connection. Did anyone had the same problem as me?
Chris
This indicates wrong baseband. Go to settings, advanced, baseband selection and choose the one appropriate for yourself. If not working, try different versions or other regions baseband with the same frequencies as yours

P.S. i can call and send texts but no 3G/2G
Thanks
Same problem here
Same problem here. Three hours ago, data connection over the mobile network did work perfectly well, now it does not connect at all any longer. I tried wiping the dalvik cache, setting different basebands (even though everything was working fine with central Europe setting before), trying several restarts and manually turning on and off data connection some times. The problem first occurred driving in a car so maybe it has something to do with switching mobile network cells too fast or something?
My system:
Defy+, CM10 from 121024, central Europe, data connection over WIFI working perfectly fine.
Any suggestions? What else could I possibly try?
Looking into the phone logs when toggling data connection, I only see
10-25 20:33:05.976: D/ConnectivityService(2549): setMobileDataEnabled(false) respectively true..
Interstingly, sometimes the icon in the task bar (the swipe down menu -> is it called like that??) shows disabled data connection and when I click it (to enable), it is displayed enabled but the trace says "setMobileDataEnabled(false)". But that probably is a problem of Google, not of CM10, would be my guess.
And when disabling a working WIFI-connection, these traces show up:

@toartoar since it worked before with the same baseband this could be due to the reason you specified, operator issues, or wrongly configured APN

i wasn't able to install the 3g fix, but i installed the baseband switcher. I tried some other basebands but still i have the same problem. No 3G at all.
Which baseband is supposed to be to correct one? I'm using Cosmote Greece.

Cosmote greece uses 2100 mHz for 3G (I think) so try a baseband which supports the same. Radio fixes are rsd flashable, what error did you encounter? Apart from these the issues which remain are: Wrong APN, operator issues. Thats pretty much what I've got
You can try South East Asia 3.4.3 331(Same as mine) as it uses the right frequencies

Thanks, already checked about the band and you are correct, it uses 2100 for 3g.
I have already checked the APN and for sure there is no operator issue.
What i'm trying to do is to find my stock rom, extract the baseband and then put it to my phone. This should work, right?
Yeah, that should nail it. Baseband is at system/etc/motorola. Replace and reboot

What is PPP? i see it mentioned alot?
PPP = Point-to-Point protocol
To OP
You should list what build, kernel you are using
Anyway, check your APN, edit/change if needed.

That is a standard to transmit and receive data packets...
Or... That let you connect to the internet
Read this
i have checked my apn and edit this, but always the same problem, connection and directly deconnection data...
I recently bought a second-hand SGS, supposedly locked to 3. The firmware was from 3 UK, but when I punched in *#7465625# it showed all locks are OFF.
Hot for tasty Froyo, first thing i did was to upgrade from the branded Eclair ROM the phone came with to an unbranded stock Froyo ROM. Kies gave me a hard time so I used ODIN. Then I inserted my SIM and realized I could not make calls or even register on my GSM network. (Had not tried the SIM before, so I don't know if the flash caused this)
I found out that the flash had changed my Product Code to KOR, but I managed to change it using THIS GUIDE. However, the step "rm -rf /efs/nv_data.bin.md5" did not work as it was write/read protected. After reboot, the SIM didn't work so I did the "busybox chown 1001:1001 /efs/nv_data.bin". The procedure changed the Pcode to H3G, which I think is the original code, although I was going for XEE.
IMEI has not changed (*#06# gets same no. as is printed below battery)
I live in Sweden, my present CSC is XEE, Product Code is H3G. Network Control Key is 00000000, could this be related?
I considering doing the Product Code change procedure again and see if I can change it too XEE hoping that will fix it, but I'm not even sure this is related to my problem.
Other than that, I'm running out of ideas. However, I'm new to the SGS scene. I'm reaching out for someone with more experience to give me some new ideas.
I've spent hours and hours at this and I've googled like possessed. If I'm being a noob or have overlooked something, let me know - just tell me what I should do to fix this phone.
Go into Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks and check that Network Mode reads as auto mode. Then open Access Points Names and check that APNs are listed that suit your carrier.
If all of that checks out, go into an app like SGS Tools and use the secret code to check Band Selection.
Thanks for your reply!
I have inserted APN for data. Though, is this really necessary just for 2G calls and SMS?
When I choose "Select Automatically" in Settings/Wireless and network/Mobile Networks/Network Operators then I sometimes get "Registered on network". Then, when trying to call, I get "Data network not available". Band Selection (from SGS Tools secret codes) show:
= BAND SELECTION =
[1] AUTOMATIC []
[2] WSCDMA BAND []
[3] GSM BAND []
[4] COMBI BANDS []
When I select the network operator manually, I get "Unable to select network. Select automatically".
An alternative Go to Rom Kitchen build a rom with
XWJS8 > Hardcore Kernel >CSC CPW > Modem JPY and whatever else you require that should give all UK main networks .

I got Data Network not available when I was investigating my phone (that is, messing about) and changed my Network Mode. Go to Settings > Wireless and Network > Network Mode and choose GSM/WCDMA Auto mode. If you don't have connection, then try first GSM Only, then WCDMA Only...then back to both.
And yes, you need to have a data network connection to make calls. Not sure why. Must be something to do with billing.
I would hate to be right but are you sure, as you've bought it second hand, that it hasn't been registered as stolen? Do you know any history of the phone?
Product code should be GT-I9000HKDXXX, where XXX should be your CSC which is XEE that makes it: GT-I9000HKDXEE, you should not use H3G at all.
double post...sorry

Weird, I was sure APN is only required for MMS and Internet, not for calls and SMS. Anyway, I have APN so that's not it.

No, I don't and I can't be 100% sure it's not stolen. However, I have a bill of sale with all his information and I know where he lives so if that's the case, it can be sorted.

I think you are right, and I managed to change it so now both CSC and Product Code reads XEE, which should be correct for Sweden. However, the problem remains the same.
There is a possible solution from HERE, however it seems rather ...old. Having no other ideas I'll try it unless someone comes up with a better idea:
Richthofen said:
Possible problems (I had them all due trying different thing to solve it):
No service.
There is no service even a functional SIM card is inserted.
You cannot receive or make calls, receive or send sms, etc (obviously).
Freeze / lock-down.
The phone will not react to anything besides pressing power key.
You cannot unlock the display to enter PIN code.
Wrong PIN code.
The phone will not accept any PIN code on any SIM (even the correct one ).
Phone displays "wrong PIN code" message even the try counter (three strikes you know) does not change.
Product code changed to KOR.
= Blocked Kies updates (without a registry "hack")
Here is how to fix any or all of them:
Downgrade to I9000XWJM9 firmware with Odin (as usual).
Remove SIM card from the phone (to be able to boot in first place) and start the phone.
Gain root access and install "Root Explorer" (or similar), ADB works too.
Open Root Explorer and go to the "EFS" folder in the root.
Check the date on .nv_data.bak and .nv_data.bak.md5 files.
If it is earlier than 08/26/2010 you´re clear, if it is later then you may stop reading.
Once the date has been checked, select files nv_data.bin and nv_data.bin.md5 simultaneously and delete (yes, delete) them. Reboot the phone.
Now your phone is in the same condition (atleast permanent memory wise) as it was prior I9000XXJPC update.
There is a safety feature I would call "a dead mans switch".
If the current nv_data files are deleted, the phone will make new nv_data files from the .bak (backup) files (if they excist). The new nv_data files will be signed automatically so they pass the checks (none of the errors listed above will occur). However if they do not excist, the phone will just write an empty / test file (= IMEI corrupted, no service, etc). Also if you just rename .bak files they will have wrong signatures and the same problems will occur.
There is no bootloaders included, so it is safe to flash for everyone.

Have you tried doing a factory reset? May not work but may be worth a try.
Could only be either apn related (doubtful), faulty sim or stolen/lost phone. Unless hardware related.

Thanks, it seems a long shot but I will try it tomorrow.
I've already flashed the phone to XWJM9 with correct CSC folllowing the guide in my previous post. Restoring nv_data.bin and nv_data.bin.md5 from the .bak files didn't help, the .bak files were just three days old so the data there might have been contaminated.
As far as I can tell there's either a hardware fault, the phone is stolen, or I've messed up the precious data in /EFS by my first ODIN flash, before I did the back-up. Every guide should have that backup procedure as first step, mine didn't. :'(
I've mailed my operator so hopefully I'll get an answer tomorrow to whether the IMEI is blocked.

I had cm7.0.3 running ok with radio:
October 2010: Radio_12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.26_M - HTC WWE 1.32.405.6
I followed the instructions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=896597
to flash recommended radio:
4th January 2011: Radio_12.28e.60.140f_26.04.02.17_M2_SF - HTC WWE 1.72.405.3 R2
I'm not sure if it was because I didn't wipe but everything since was very jerky and the device was unresponsive, therefore I reverted to an older ROM I had backed up. Now I have found that I no longer have a 2g/3g data connection, the phone just states "unknown" within my quicker app settings.
Does anyone know why I've had this problem, or better still any ideas how I can resolve?
Punch in *#*#4636#*#* into your keypad and head into Phone Information.
What info is displayed? You may need to type it all out.
Cool, thanks for this info.
Right I have followed your instructions and before I write everything out I have notice that at the bottom of the first menu (which is: Phone info) the "set preferred network type was set to "WCDMA preferred", am I right in saying I should change to "GSM only" or "GSM auto (PRL)?
Mine is set to WCDMA preferred and I get 2G/3G/H. Try it, you have nowt to lose at this point.
Ok, changing that doesn't seem to have worked. I lost regular phone signal.
Phone info for you:

Set preferred network type:

Does this help you at all? Thanks, appreciating your support.
It does a bit. GPRS service reads "Discontinued". If you had disabled data on your phone it would read "Disconnected".
What I would do is try the same SIM card in another phone. If you cannot try that you can check your APN settings.
Settings > WiFi & networks > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names > check you have the correct settings.
I can't try the SIM card part until tomorrow.
Prior to leaving work today I did check my phones APN settings against a work mates (since he has an unrooted DHD) and they appeared correct. Both phones has two Orange UK (-orangeinternet) and Orange UK MMS (orangemms).
I removed the SIM and battery and then re-assembled.
I have been changing things and then checking, now it states the following (with regards to the list I provided you earlier):
Phone Number now appears
GPRS service now states disconnected
and the GSM disconnects still states:
=========DATA==========
State: DcInactiveState
disconnected with last try
at 12:59 AM
fail because No Error
PPP sent: 0 pkts, 0 bytes
PPP received: 0 pkts, 0 bytes
this is all with "WCDMA preferred"
I have also re-flashed with the radio that was previously in the phone (26.03.02.26), but still no data connection...
The only sure fire way to find out if its your setup is to run the 1.32 RUU and flash back to stock. If you get data then its your system / radio / RIL setup.
If you flash back to 1.32 you can be fully rooted / S-OFF / etc again in about 1 hour.
Ok, thanks for that.
Just to provide a little more detail:
I had to downgrade before rooting to CM7-RC4, then I moved to CM7-final, CM7.0.2 and then CM7.0.3 before I decided to upgrade my radio from 26.03.02.26 to 26.04.02.17.
This is when I hit my data problem.
Since then reverted to an older ROM backup and I have re-flashed different radio's to see if it would come back to life.
I have now applied the CM7.1 update (since I guessed I have nothing to lose).
Tomorrow I will try and make time to drop to 1.32 RUU.
Am I right in saying the RIL is the tie-in between the software and the radio? It sounds like this might be my problem now?
I'll need to research the procedures to do what you suggest since I'm still pretty new to all this...
Thanks again, I'll let you know how I get on.
Yes you are correct the RIL sits between the Radio and software.
An incorrect RIL could be the cause. Have you tried flashing the recommended RIL?
Ok, thanks.
I have some time now to play with this, would you happen to know if it matters which order I do this in?
radio, RIL, then ROM?
Sorry for that, I found the answer to my own post, RIL last!
I have now re-flashed radio:
Radio_12.28g.60.140f_26.05.05.27_M3
and then applied RIL (using ROM Manager):
HTC-RIL_2.2.0099HM
Still had no joy.
Ran the 1.32.exe application to return to stock (it informed me that it was changing 2.36.405.8 to 1.32.405.6) and my data has returned! My voicemail icon has returned too!
Would be ace to have these with CM7!
Any suggestions on the quickest and more reliable way to get to CM7?
1. flash newer radio
2. test vm & data connection
3. flash cm7
Just to let you know that after flashing radio vm and data still worked and then going onto cm7.0.3 my data still works - fixed! Although, I have lost my voicemail Still happy though, thanks for your suggestions.

Use the USSD *#0011# & select sim. The registered PLMN / MCC MNC is the same in the normal state and emergency calls only? Signal strength and quality is OK (includes ec/io?) TCH rx lvl no longer -- with call / any MNO's USSD code on 2G? Any change if the operator is manually searched and selected?
Edit: I'm suggesting 2G/3G because maybe at some time, the CSC was not applied correctly, disabling volte and leaving CSFB. If *#0011# doesn't work the CSC wasn't applied correctly. Was that other phone connected to another cell (different band preference), or did it have volte enabled?

The *#0011# sin't working. The other phone was LG P500, it only has 3G. I'm running Arrived Crystal ROM on the samsung if that helps

If the 0011 disappears with no response, the ril service mode has been debloated. If the 0011 stays with no response, the CSC was not applied correctly. You could alternatively try to open it with root (am broadcast...) Check logcat -s XMLParser:V, there should normally be at least one that doesn't say file not found.
With that rom you likely have root, to apply CSC copy the content of /system/csc/yourcsc/system/ into /system/.
/system/csc/yourcsc/system/etc merges into /system/etc & /system/csc/yourcsc/system/csc merges into /system/csc
Set the permissions of those files (not folders) to 644(owner read write, group read, other read). After this try volte(4G LTE) if available.
Specifically, it's "yourcsc_keystrings.dat" for 0011. Rename it to sm-a510f_keystrings.dat if it doesn't work. This file from any device or CSC could work.
The 0011 isn't the solution to the problem, unfortunately. But it could help us know what's the cause of it.
Something else: (backup the efs in case you accidentally select something unintended, or because maybe it's broken on nougat, 9090 is something different and could cause modem bricks, I've used 9900 on a510fd marshmallow) Enable mobile data while the network becomes unavailable, *#9900#, select run cp based log. In /data/log/err, open litmuslog...txt and scroll down. Google those reject cause codes if there are any.
Showing errors specific to calls is at+ceer(create a backup), an at command that could be run with the 'modem serial port' on a PC or on the Exynos device itself with root and with minicom -D /dev/umts_router.
Also, you could try contacting your MNO. It's likely that they will tell you to restart your device but it's worth a try.
You could try a SIM from another MNO.
I've got nothing else.
Emergency call solved in a510fd
Is the 4-file maintenance ROM capable of repairing the network in a model A510FD and can it solve the problem of emergency calls only?
