This applies to anyone that has purchased a G2 in the last couple weeks. The G2 is on sale on T-mobile's website for $49.99. I purchased mine last Sunday and it was delivered last Wednesday. I called 611 and said "speak to an agent about billing." First I talked to a representative who told me that a price match was impossible and the company had no way to give me money back. She said her internet "did not upload" so she could not navigate to the company website and see the promotion. I laughed and asked for a supervisor so she transferred me to an extremely friendly girl with much better call quality. I was only expecting a credit but she refunded the money to my card. Unfortunately the refund is going to take two weeks, but how great of a deal is the G2 at $49.99? I was on the fence about returning it for the Nexus S, which was announced the day after I bought the G2. I really want to use the $30 prepaid plan since I have wifi 90% of the time. Now I can cancel in a few months and pay the $200 ETF. G2 without a contract for $250 and a $30 per month phone bill.
Well its a good thing I got mine for $0 on the cyber Monday sale they had

I was only trying to imply that I first got through to their outsourced call center which, in my experience, has never been the least bit helpful.

Lol! That's coming from a guy from Puerto Rico... Seriously though, its because they are more dificult to understand and generally its due to being outsourced to some call center in India with no clue what's going on. Heck, we are all immigrants in the US but learning how to speak the native tongue correctly seems less relevant these days and that goes for the 5th or 15th generation immigrants too... sad

It's not about the accent, it's more about the cause behind it.
If you call a tech support representative in Puerto Rico and he speaks with a heavy American accent, and isn't that great with Spanish (as it's his second language) and he has trouble understanding you, then you will see what you are getting at. Unfortunately the USA is so cheap that they would rather pay Jamal $0.50/hour than Earl $8/hour. So we have comprehension problems and they absolutely suck. When we call support and hear an accent (and usually a middle-eastern one) we fear that they won't understand us due to the language barrier.
I used to do 3rd-Tier Technical Support for cell phones a few years ago and you have no idea how many people were surprised to have a native English speaker telling them what to do. I always understood what they said, and they always understood me. The same can not always be said about non-native English speakers.

Haha you guys are all noobs! I got mine for under $200 without a contract or rebate. You just gotta know how to work the system...
Call center experiences can be poor but not all outsourced reps are bad. I've worked in lots of call centers too and when people ***** and moan about people in India or the Philippines I politely let them know I'm a visual minority... Filipino as well. You wouldn't believe how embarrassed they feel afterwards.
Usually if you give them the time of day they'll do a much better job than lazy buggers in North American call centers. Outsourcing doesn't always mean poor quality.

No, the stores are franchised and have different accounting than the website and phone sales.

I think it was a short lived sale. I did see it advertised for free on contract earlier this week as well but I think that was on Amazon. If anyone's interested, T-mobile confirmed that as soon as my return period is up, I can switch to the EM+ plan and pay the $200 ETF, making this phone $250 off contract.
I just got two extra G2's for a total of $0.00 . So now we have 3 of them

My brother is due for an upgrade and he's new to android. I think the phone will be great for him. So I was wondering where is the best place to buy an epic? I'm looking in terms of price and deals. So far, the best deal I found was at radio shack where I can get one for $49 + tax w/ contract after trading any old working phone.

Are you sure? the radioshack employee told me that it was $149 for an upgrade, then take off $100 after trading in any old working phone, which would come to $49 + taxes...said that the promotion was going to end saturday, so I'm assuming it must've just started. I'm gonna call them to double check.

wow, can't beat that. ridiculous that the evo is still pulling $199 on contract
Talked to two different radio shack stores just now. The first store that I called said that its for new contracts only. The second one I called said that upgrades were indeed eligible for the offer, and the first store I called didn't know what they were talking about. She even went on to say that she just recently did the same offer for an upgrading customer...so I don't know what to believe.
Well I manage a RadioShack, so I'm pretty sure that it is only for new activations. The store maybe able to add the $100 trade and save rebate but the store will charged back for it.

I called a 3rd and 4th store in my area, both said that upgrades were a go. They also said that ANY working trade-in phone would qualify for the deal, doesn't matter the value. I guess I'll just have to wait until my brother and I head down there later this week.

Don't hate the company because you left them or were terminated. Yes they do give a lot for iphone trade in but there is never a price drop for the iphone either. As far as love for other phones. A $100 trade in towards the epic to bring it down to $50 is pretty good. Love them our hate them you still get some of the best prices out there and employees who will go that extra mile for you instead of just clerking you out.

Looked at the radioshack ad. The epic price IS $149.99 on new activation, and the $100 trade-in IS also on new activation....
....Buuuuut...went to my local radioshack store. She took my cheap $20 virgin mobile phone, and rang up the epic under my brother's line. Kept ringing up to $198 after a couple tries, then she did something with the computer and it rang up to $98 after taxes...

I just shopped around untill I found the best price.
I've been a loyal Tmobile customer for over 10 years, even before they became Tmobile. However, after the terrible customer service experience I've been having with them the past few days over trying to purchasing a GS2 I have decided to brake my contact and move to a different carrier.
They have been giving me the run around and wrong information. I've had enough of their bs!
This is what they have been telling me each time I have called to purchase one. Keep in mind I haven't purchased a Tmobile phone in over 5 years.
(paraphrasing here)
Call #1 They said yes I "qualify for a full upgrade discount" and they have the white GS2 "in stock".
Call #2 , 4 days later, It's my paydays and ready to purchase..."no sorry we don't have any in stock". I said ok nevermind. I'm now thinking I 'll just buy an iphone 4 from craigslist and jailbrake/unlock it. She then puts me on hold. Different rep answers and says "yes we do have some in stock". I order one and again specifically (because I thought they were just trying to keep me happy) say "I want a white samsung galaxy s2". The guys says "no problem, I have that noted."
Call #3, 4 days later they ship me a black GS2. I called and told them the mistake. The rep said I was given the wrong information and that the white GS2 is on "back order". She was very apologetic and said they would ship out a white one asap. I said fine, i'll ship it back and wait out for the white one since I have already been charged $340 for the white one.
Call #4, 5 days later I called to confirm if they received the phone back. They said yes and when I asked when the white would be shipped she said I "don't qualify for a discounted white gs2" and that I could only purchase the black one for the $340 I was charged. I of course was furious because I had been told that I do since I haven't even purchased a phone from them in years. On top of that I haven't found a different price for a white GS2 either from Tmobile.
That was it for me. I asked for a refund and as soon as I get credited back I'm cancelling my service with Tmobile.
I'm moving on to AT&T and getting that sexy Samsung Note!
Awesome story

Really sucks you went through that man.. I feel your pain..
Just really hope you don't go with an Iphone.. Don't get me wrong, its a decent phone, but a decent phone for a 3-4 year old platform..
There is absolutely no competition anymore, the tiny screens, the none existent 4g, the lack of freedom, the list just goes on.
Good luck with whatever you choose.. If you're really leaving I saw go to Verizon and get the Nexus!

I've been an avid fan of the jailbraking community. It's nice what you can do with a jailbroken iphone. However, since I'm with Tmobile I don't ever get a chance to browse 3g/4g speeds. That's probably the main reason why I'm moving away from the iphone and into android/rooting community.
I was leaning on getting the GS2 but today I went to the AT&T store and was blown away by the Samsung Note. I'm getting one Wednesday.
yup. my wife ordered me one as a surprise/gift and they sent an amaze. two months later i finally got my sgs2, $400 on a 2 year contract... if my wife wasn't making me stay with tmob, i would pay the etf and get a galaxy nexus tomorrow.
Damn y are you guys paying so much with a contact? I was only 14 months into my contract when I called the loyalty department, told em att made me an offer I couldn't refuse which included paying my termination fees and asked what they were willing to do to keep me. I ended up with bogo free gs2's for $249+ tax waived the upgrade fees, shipping cost (express shipped), and activation costs.

there customer service may not be perfect but when calling in if the reg cs agent says thru can't do anything or basically tells you no...tell em you want to speak with loyalty department. I have yet to get off the phone without getting my way. Also when speaking with em don't ask for something, you tell em this is what is going to happen, they say O we can't do that simply ask, well fine what's my termination costs? That will get ball rolling.

If you qualified for an upgrade you could get the phone through Amazon or Best Buy. Guess is too late for that.
Sent from my SGH-T989
loyalty/retention department is your best friend
when you call 611 or whatever to call tmobile and the automated system says "what can i help you with today.. you can say etc etc"
SAY: CANCEL or RETENTION
they will transfer you to that department right away. I always talk to the reps there, because they're basically the reps who has been with the company longer and has more power over everything. They are basically supervisors (not really but could be?) to the regular reps, that means their own supervisors even have more power lol.
But anyways, any problems you guys have.. talk to these guys first because they have more access to "the system" than the regular reps, such as discounts and ****.
like bobby said he got a bogo free for $249 free everything.. this is their regular deal.. in fact it's not a deal at all. usually when you're almost 1.5 years into your contract, you're allowed early upgrade.
why is it not a deal? because... the standard upgrade price ranges from free-250 (depends if there are any promotions) so they could've just beautify and you're actually paying the regular upgrade price of $125 per phone (look into it, a lot of people either get the phone free or around $125 when upgrading). Or the phone is $249 and they credit you the $250 "credit" you get when you sign a extension to your contract and that goes into buying your phone.
Anyways! retention! thats who you have to call, I usually jump in and ask the rep whats the best they can do for me. If they say anything lower than $250 credit. that's BS. I have seen people get free phone + $250 credit. you can tell the rep that's what another rep has offered just "30 mins ago" they will try to match it, if not, hang up and call again, talk to another rep.
You know what I ended up getting $250 credit + $10 off every month of my contract. IT is usually one or the other because $10x24 = $240. And yes I have access to $10 2gb plans and $20 5 gb plans as well.
sorry for the ramble but hope this helps people save money on dealing with tmobile reps

My two cents......... I've also been with t mobile for over 12 years. Went thru the same thing as the op, with one exception i was just trying to get a sgs2. Didn't care what color it was. i was told i had to order one and that it wouldn't come till April (this was at the beginning of march) at a price of 340 dollars .
long story short, got mad, cancelled my order with t mobile and told them i was talking my business elsewhere. they told me no one in my market had this phone, and going thru them would be the fastest way to put this phone in my hands----WRONG. an hour later and only 160 dollars spent i had the phone. TARGET had 10 in stock at half the price.

You have to have the phone on the account for so many days or prove that you paid outright for it. Then they can go through once you meet all the requirements.
Yes, T-Mo Customer Service is outstanding. You don't need to threaten to leave them for them to take action. Sure there are probably a few bad ones scattered around here and there but you can't blame them for that. After all, we're only human.
My friend called twice yesterday to see if he can extend his contract now 4 months early so that he can buy an S3 and both people said no. I found that quite lame, has anyone been able to extend their contracts early?

I wish the VZW was like that here. All the local stores treat me like I'm wasting their time unless I'm buying something. If I have an issue I just call in now. It really pissed them off when I had the guy on the phone FWD my early upgrade to the store so I could pick it up same day( after the store denied my early upgrade and said it wasn't possible). The guy at the counter threw the phone on the counter and walked away.

My personal dealings with Tmobile CSR have been stellar. They work with you like a human instead of a number.
One time I was trying to save dollars on my phone bill so I was looking around their website. I ended up disabling my family plan's text messages. Got a bill a month later for 600+, I freaked out.. and called. The lady explained how it was binding to the contract when making online changes. Long story short she understood, reset my plan like nothing happened and asked me to watch my clicks
Then I moved to an area with less than strong 4G. Reception and data was spotty anywhere in my new home. I was really considering moving to a different company. I called and they sent me a free signal repeater. I've had better service ever since.
Where their service may be rocky they treat us well. In a society where it's all about product we forget that service is part of the product.

I had a EnV Touch before my current X2 andvi went through 8 phones and they refused to offer me something else when 7 of them were software problem's. My X2 is another hyped up ****ty phone unless you run a rom. A mass Exodus happened on this phone starting with release of GNex. Most everyone filed a BBB complaint and after getting good customer support they let me upgrade early in April almost 11 months after phones release. I know now to go to the nice people at their HQ rather then at the store. Complete idiots work their at mine.
My full upgrade isnt due until September, but they just said on the phone, I can get the S3 for 279 with rebate but the phone is back ordered!

Does the rebate mean u pay $330 up front and get $50 back in mail or is it 279 and then u get 50 back meaning u only pay 230? In in the same situation my full upgrade isn't till first week of Sept

No she told me on the phone that I would have to order it now for $279 then get the $50 back. I said no because there was no ETA on when they would get a new shipmint in
Went to At&t retail store on the way home to pick up my Note 3....went thought the check out process with the Att rep and came to pay and she said "Well I guess its free". She had the manager come over and check and he said the same thing. Oh well good for me I guess...LOL :good:. And I high fived the rep as I left.
Yes I used my 2 year upgrade to get it. Also it was also a business account and it was not charged to the account (I checked)
Oh well just thought I would share....
Oh ya and I had to do some extra work to keep my unlimited data since they try to remove it no matter what now....I had to call 611 and have them reapply during the switch over to the new phone.
You are my hero!!!

Tell you what, buy back your Note 2 and I'll take the free Note 3. You just got a more advanced phone for free and cash for your old one, how can you seriously be complaining? You're probably the only one who has gotten an absolute free N3 and aren't happy. That's like saying..oh no...I won the lottery but now I have to pay taxes on it, darn. -_-
how is that even possible? Did you have to renew your contract? Pay for the discounted price for the phone?
Free phone and you didnt pay for the insurance?!?! Man, it could have been double free later!

Ya I didn't want to add that to my companies monthly bill!
Are you sure it was free? There is a program called next where the sales tax is charged at point of sale and then an installment plan is added for 20 months...
There is also a bug right now at Corp stores where sometimes sales tax is not charged on a transaction...
I'm a great salesman and part of being one is knowing every deal and offer... that's the only way I know where the note would be free.
Don't get me wrong I love the next program but this sounds like possible bait and switch...
If this happened to you, you will notice a 35 dollar increase in you bill and a lack of the standard upgrade fee.
Trust me, I am a retail sales person at a Corp store. It sounds like they signed you up for next which is an installment plan that raises bill. It gives a one year upgrade option but it should only be sold to someone that wants it.

What store did this happen at? I actually am in the St Louis market and if a store knows how to do this or what does I wanna know so I can hook customers up.
That's a FAN discount price but definitely an error.

AT&T can waive the deductible if you ask. They replaced my Note2 twice & each time the rep waived the deductible.

Are you talking about AT&T replacing it or Asurion?
I called AT&T, instead of the insurance company. First time (headphone jack), the rep said it was still under AT&T's warranty. Second time (water damage), the rep said it would be a pain to go through the insurance company & they could replace it , but would have to charge the deductible. I asked could he waive it. He checked with the manager & he ok'd it, even sent the replacement overnight.

That makes more sense. I've never had an issue getting a phone replaced within a year from AT&T, some had physical damage to the housing. Water damage would be pretty iffy, but as long as you have documentation, I don't see how they can charge you. I've never paid for insurance, so I don't have experience with that process.
This thread has run its course. Clerical and pricing errors don't happen every day, congrats OP on a legit free device.
